This is a real pro shop...! Hands down...!!!After my less than satisfactory experience with JCC Customs in Woodbridge, it became critical that I found a custom exhaust shop that would be able to do the kind of work that I was looking for and also a shop that would follow my wishes unless they had a better idea that they could contribute.Well, here they were right on Terrill Road in North Plainfield...!I consulted with Paul and Nick about some of the ideas I had for my custom exhaust and they carefully listened to what I was asking for and then they described their own understanding of what I was asking for.It was like they were inside my head with me. Scary stuff in the best possible way...!!!What it boils down to is that my exhaust had drone, the annoying humming you sometimes get with a performance exhaust and I wanted to use Helmholtz-style resonators to quiet the drone and make the car civil to drive again.I showed Paul a picture of what I wanted and he said: "Ah, you want resonance chambers..." Impressed, I went on to leave my materials (stainless steel pipes and so on) and thr dimensions with Paul to give him time to fabricate the pieces and weld them together.He called when he was ready to install them and I came running...!I am proud to say that the car is quiet when cruising and a good bit louder when I'm flying. They gave me a fair price for great work and I plan to be back shortly for more mods, as my budget allows...!

My breaks have been squealing for quite some time and I was looking to get them fixed. During my 20+ years in Scotch Plains, I've passed Colonial Mufflers and Breaks hundreds of times, without ever using their service. I looked them up and with so many positive reviews, I decided to try them.How have I missed this hidden gem that was right in front of me?!?! I called them and explained my problem. We scheduled time the following morning. My car was expertly fixed quickly and professionally. It is now a quiet, squeak free, pleasure to drive.Thank you to everyone at Colonial Discount Mufflers & Brakes

I was happy with the work done to repair my exhaust. They diagnosed the problem (rusted and snapped header bolt) provided me with a quote, time estimate for the work and followed through when I gave them the ok to do the work. I would absolutely recommend them and use them in the future

2023 Thanksgiving week: Tuesday Nov 21: So far given them to replace the entire exhaust system. Waiting here since morning, ETA is not given but told that it would be end of the day. Waiting for the phone call, will post update later. 2024 March: Failed NJ State inspection twice. Brand new catalytic converters (left & right) both sub standard & below quality. Mechanic (owner) advising to replace to pass the re-inspection...

Thank you so very much. My exhaust system piping separated and the solution was so much easier than I was lead to believe by other shops. If you have anexhaust issue, you would be well served to let Paul check it out. Vivian was friendly and polite. They saved me thousands. Vivian, Paul and Nick are hands down the most honest, hard working and reputable people in the business. I ve Been going to Colonial Mufflers and Brakes for over a year and they have excellent service. Everyone is very knowledgeable, fair and honest. If you re looking for any work to be done to your car these are your people. I ve visited the shop on multiple occasions for many different issues, noises, parts etc; and these guys never fail to get it done right and for a fair price. From exhaust work, engine work, suspension work and everything in between, they do it all. Nothing but love for them. I appreciate all the work and effort they put into making sure I am satisfied as a customer. I was driving around in the morning while going to work and heard some funny noise. I asked to step out for 2 hours to see what, was happening. I called the shop, spoke to Vivian, and got there and my car was put on the lift and Nick took care of it. Great people, service and honest. I work in the ER so I deal with people all day long and I was treated very well and they found the issue. Thanks A lot Guys....Service: Exhaust

Went to a few shops, including chain muffler shops, all gave estimates that were way off. 2.5 to 4 hours of labor to replace a resonator that I could do myself in a couple of hours. Local mechanic, who didn t to exhausts recommended I drive to see Paul. Estimate was very fair, he got me in quickly, and I got the car back in a couple of hours. Highly recommend Paul. if you are looking for quality work at a fair price give Colonial a shot.Service: Exhaust

A neighbor recommended Colonial to have my brakes checked (some squeeking and odd behavior). The service, from my initial call on when to come, turnaround time, etc to call from mechanic on work needing to be completed to closing out the transaction were fantastic. Highly recommend. Happy to know that they do all types of repairs. Prices were honest. Locally owned and operated is a plus.Services: Brakes, Brake service & repair

Excellent service!! Paul and his wife have been taking care of my car needs since I got my first car in high school. They are always honest and very detailed in explaining any recommended services as well as things I don t need. Their prices are very reasonable and they go above and beyond to finish the job promptly. Often my car is finished well before my expected time frame. I completely trust them and wouldn t recommend anyone elsewhere. They truly take pride in their work and it shows. Thanks again for recently working on my Infiniti brakes! You guys are the best!!

Brought in my SUV for exhaust repair. Owner was honest, gave us various options, prices were fair. He discovered an additional issue to my original problem and was kind enough to not charge extra. I had an unorthodox request and the shop understood and was very accommodating. It was done very timely and so far, the quality is great. I have been driving around about a week now. I am happy and can recommend this shop. Cost was competitive as well. Just very professional overall. Honestly, it has been above expectation. Thank you again.

Highly recommend Colonial Muffler. They were able to accommodate on a Saturday to fix a rattle with my exhaust. Very quick turnaround and reasonable cost. I'd definitely go back if I needed exhaust work.

Took my BMW here to get the stock exhaust welded back on properly, and they did an amazing job and they also got me in and out. Pricing was very reasonable as well. I would definitely recommend bringing your vehicle here for all of your exhaust needs.

Came to the shop an hour before opening not knowing the shops hours. when they opened at 8:30 In got signed up was asked if I could leave my truck I had no choice , I said I would.Before my ride came to pick me up, Paul had prepared an estimate which was fair since my parts had to be custom made. I said I needed the truck that day, and they got it done. Great work and Great people.

Best mechanic I have found in the last 5 years. Honest,polite,quick and done right. Will do the job at a excellent price. Anytime I will have a problem with my car,I will go 45 miles out of my way just because of the trust factor. The owner is a stand up guy, I wish I had a mechanic like him where I live. Any future problems or if your car breaks down I recommend you take your automobile to Colonial Mufflers 425 Scotch Plains off Rt 22 next to Sears.

I brought in my truck to get my muffler replace here. Their estimate seem reasonable, I called and they asked me to bring it in a couple of hours, I dropped it off and it was ready for pick up in about 3-4hrs. I am happy with the service.

They have a customer for life. I needed an emergency repair, and they got it done same-day for hundreds less than another reputable service I had been going to.In listening to their phone conversations with customers while I waited, I heard them constantly seeking to find the best and most affordable solution. I heard them offer lower price solutions when they could just as easily jammed the customer with an expensive, brand new part.

I had seen my exhaust system somewhere else so knew what I needed. They re assessment matched mine and they fixed it on the spot for much cheaper than 2 other places. Excellent, professional place. I have already recommended Colonial to others.

Paul s business at Colonial Mufflers does great work.. He installed a custom exhaust and headers on my 2007 Tahoe a few years back with a great price for the work done. I now have a 2009 Suburban and will be bringing it in for another custom exhaust and header installation soon. - William W.
