I have used Frey Automotive as one of two primary repair mechanic teams over the past four years. (Note that Colin & team took over management about that time, so any negative reviews from four years ago or earlier on here should be disregarded.)I have found their pricing to be fair and competitive, and their competence as mechanics to be superb. My current car has over 425,000 miles on the original engine and transmission, yet (as with any old car) is frequently offering "challenges" that his team of mechanics needs to surmount.During the majority of repairs over the past four years, it was done right the first time, and there was no need for return. In the rare instance when a repair was not quite right the first time around, they looked at it again, and got it running properly, pretty quickly.Recently, a weird sound was coming from the car, with it dropping power on turns. They said it was dangerous to drive, and though they were busy, took it in, found the problem, and solved it, saving me from what could have been a catastrophic highway situation.Colin - who heads up the team - does a LOT: takes the calls, sets up appointments, sees that people get rides back home if needed, test drives the cars, and does mechanical work with his team. I have found him to be personable, professional, and fair in all my interactions with him. Each person he has hired, that I have met over the past four years of interactions, has been skilled, talented, competent, and trustworthy.Almost any mechanic in New Jersey bills out at $100+ per hour for labor. At that rate - 2, 3, or 4 times what you or I earn - it is fair and reasonable to expect the job to be done right, and to leave driving a safe-to-drive car, each time a repair is done.That has been the case with this shop - and I look forward to continuing to challenge him and his mechanics, as we jointly see if we can get my car to the rare milestone of 500,000 miles on the original engine and original transmission.I highly recommend them, but note they have busy periods, so patience may sometimes be warranted. One final note - ChatGPT is still in learning mode, so I think it's pretty foolhardy in 2024 for anyone to rely on it for accurate detailed information in the automotive mechanic field, whether here or elsewhere. (Just a relevant personal opinion, folks.)

They said it would take 22-24 hours and cost 6,000 dollars to replace my friend's car engine, if I provide the engine and 11,000 if I they provide the engine. My mechanic friend says it should take half that time so basically they want to charge About 500 an hour in labor.I asked ChatGPT how long it takes:"The time required to replace a car engine can vary significantly based on several factors, including the expertise of the mechanic or technician, availability of parts, additional repairs needed, and the specific circumstances surrounding the engine replacement. Honest, friendly and professional service for a fair price! I take all of my cars here even though I don't live in the area anymore and I recommend this shop to all of my friends and family that live in Sussex County. I wouldn't go anywhere else!

I was having a problem removing removing an axle u-joint and I was looking for somewhere that had a puller. The guy at Advance didn't have it but said try Frey's right across the street. So I go there and it's right after closing time. So I'm standing there like a chump with my axle shaft and a guy comes out, I wish I got his name, I guess he was Frye idk lol, but he says you don't need a puller, let me show you. And he did it very quickly and showed me how to do it, how to put it back together, marked the parts so they would go back the same way and made sure I understood how to get caps back in and what to do if I had trouble with them.Thanks for doing this after hours! I had the driver's side back in quick and was able to do the passenger side no problems thanks to the info and the tips!Outstanding!Service: Steering & suspension repair

I recently Purchased an Exhaust for my 2011 BMW M3 and I was excited to have it installed as soon as possible, I called other places and I was told that they didn t have time and had to wait 2/3 days, or I felt like I was being over charged because it s a BMW. I remember driving past Frey Automotive many times and decided to give them a call. They were very professional and respectful. They didn t have time during that day to install it but gave me the 1st appointment the next morning! They even let me drop off the exhaust the day I called so I wouldn t have to travel back and forth that morning. After the install I was extremely happy with the result and the time that it took them to complete it. Easy going people and very helpful. I Highly recommend Frey Automotive if your in the area!

Reliable service, Colin the son takes the time to thoroughly walk you through what's needed before doing the service. No blinds charges at all. Straight forward customer service.

I brought a car there for a pre purchase inspection and the gentleman who helped me was very cool. He let me know about all of the issues and also what was good about it he even looked up kbb pricing because he thought the seller was asking too much. Great place.

Dave knows all calls better than anybody I ve ever known. He is truly a Master Mechanic and I go nowhere else with any car when I need repairs. I recommend him to repair your car without a single reservation !!!!!!

This place is awful! Went for a basic oil change. After I left the. Shop my car started to make sputtering noises and shake as if it was going to stall in traffic. I took it back and was given a negative response by the lead technician David. The manager, penny said the oil was very dark and they would recharge it. Needless to say, a week or so later, the same thing happened . I decided to write this place off as not worthy of my business, cut my losses and never set foot there ever again. Poorly trained, unprofessional technicians and staff. Not recommended to anyone. Nasty attitudes.

Will never use this place for anything again. I had an oil change service done there the other day. On my way home the the engine was making a weird sound. As I got to my driveway, smoke started pouring out from under the hood. I thought the car was on fire. I opened the hood & it looked like engine compartment was sprayed with engine oil. Oil was puddled on top and all over. They never put the oil fill cap back on. The cap was no where to be seen.When I called them the lady seemed aggravated & said we'll send a tow truck it will be about an hour. The tow truck came and picked up the car.The next morning I had to get a friend to bring me back to the station (I live in Blairstown 19 miles away). I waited 20 mins and they said they put more oil in the engine. I asked for a refund & they refused. No one even apologized not even "sorry".I get back home & realized they didn't even clean the engine compartment. I had to take it to another mechanic who referred me to a place to to have the oil mess cleaned. I went back to Citgo to ask for them to give me the $40 it cost me to have the engine cleaned. The lady there refused and argued with me, never even saying sorry. Finally after she spoke with the cleaning person she begrudgingly gave me the $40 for the cleaning. She was angry & said if anything goes wrong with the car it is not their fault.I will never go there again and I warn you all beware.

Colin diagnosed the problem, and quoted me a price and time. He was done ahead of schedule, a little below budget, and he got the problem fixed with one visit. I've known Colin for years. Absolutely reliable.

These guys have the tools to fix your car correctly the first time. They use the internet program to diagnose your vehicle. The wowner Collen is great!
