We had a flat and were unable to find anything on a Sunday. The wonderful staff took our tire and plugged it for us and put it back on with no charge! We were not having a great day, and it turned into being the best day! Thank you for the quick and professional service we received! I recommend this Pep Boys for all your car care needs!

Overall, the service was great. The people there are really nice and I'm glad they were open on a Saturday. But, after picking up my car, I was experiencing the same--although not as bad--problem and I will need more repairs. Also, compared with other mechanics, they are slightly overpriced. I would recommend them if you're not familiar with mechanics in your area or you're having a car emergency.

Made an appointment for a state inspection at 11:30. Specified what service I wanted and everything in the reservation. Was contacted the day of to be told they wouldn t get to my car until late afternoon and could drop off my car on a work day? The timing didn t make sense so I coordinated to drop off later at 2pm, and even then a 30 minute inspection took until 3:15pm to complete. I was given no explanation why my vehicle wasn t going to be inspected at 11:30 like I reserved, except that the mechanics went to lunch at 12.

Liam took customer service beyond what I expected. I wasn't just a number I am an individual that has had bad experiences with those who previously serviced my vehicle. When Liam informed me I had different size tires I was appalled yet the discussion about this lead me to purchase an actual set same size tires all around. He offered an appropriate discountWe discussed further options for what may improve my vehicle to pass inspection.Thank you for hiring such an individual. Liam is definitely an asset to your Pep Boys team.

Treated me HORRIBLY and damaged my tire rendering it unusable! Sent me out on the road with a split bald tire! I have the pictures of the tires that I brought in and they were not damaged! In response to the owner response I have tried to contact corporate and I have been ignored! Y all owe me some tires! Absolutely ridiculous how they treat females!

I was contacted within hours of posting a poor experience. I responded back via email and now have heard nothing back in over a week. I had an oil change and they lied about my tires and since I didn't buy new tires they refused to rotate them. I needed an oil change because my mechanic now only does body work. I was going on a trip with my family so wanted an updated oil change (17k miles on a new car) but ended up not taking that car. Thank goodness. I got home 3 days later and now my NEW car (17K miles) is leaking oil. This store in Portsmouth NH is a serous danger to ANYONE that brings their car there for any service. Customer BEWARE!

Really hate leaving bad reviews - but had some wheels delivered here from TireRack for my car and Pep Boys popped them on. I believe they did not torque one of my tires correctly and caused some huge safety concerns in my opinion. I could not recommend anyone going to this shop after my experience.Driving away from the shop, I heard more road noise than usual, but figured it was just the new tires. Drove from Portsmouth to Manchester (46 miles) and had tons of road noise and vibrations in the car, causing me to hop off the highway.Checking the vehicle, that wheel had lug nuts that were so loose I could spin them with my fingers. Dave at the Pep Boys in Manchester was great - but I was told that I was at fault because I didn't get my tired re-torqued within 25 miles. It was explained to me that new wheels need to mate with the car and re-torquing is important to prevent and safety concerns like what I experienced. I was also informed that anytime you remove your wheel, you need to re-torque it again within 25 miles, for literally any type of service.Pep Boy's absolutely has this written in their fine print, and I was told that I was explicitly instructed to follow this when I picked up my car after it was completed.I spoke with the shope before writing this just to make sure there wasn't anything else to be said. They still believe they torqued the wheel correctly and that something about the wheel or the lug nuts or some other unknown factor was the cause of the loose wheel. The same lug nuts are on my car now and the wheel was re-torqued after the last time they came off and they had not loosed at all. I just don't see how that could be the case and strongly feel that something in their process was missed.

Decent service up front, however, was not notified the tires had not yet come in, the morning of the appointment, three hours before when I called to verify the appointment, or when I dropped my vehicle off. Finally, I got a call 30 minutes AFTER dropping my car off that the tires hadn't yet come in. Lame.

VJ and Charlie Brown gave me excellent service today when my car stopped running while getting gas. They got my car in (when many other local garages wouldn't) and went above board to make sure that everything was running correctly. They're honest and very accommodating. Highly recommend Portsmouth Pep Boys!

They quoted me at $2,400 for a brake job, saying all the parts needed to be replaced. Took it to another local mechanic who is known to be expensive, yet he completed the job for half the price, and said Pep Boys tried to replace parts that were not necessary. Also, manager will hover and pressure employees to charge you for extras and not give you advertised discounts. If you do go, watch that manager. I never received the receipt for quoted parts and complimentary inspection sheet, probably because they knew it was inflated. I ve been getting oil changes and inspections with them for years. Probably won t return after this.

Went online to book appointment they called and pushed 2 and a half hours later because of a company computer issue and my guys go to lunch at 11:30 . I get to shop and there is a homeless man sitting in waiting area who has not showered in weeks. Manger offers to sell me tires. My tires have 16,000 miles on them and pass inspection. I declined new tires and after I pay he reminded me to get new front tires soon. I asked if tires were rotated he said no, the thread is to low but didn t mention that at all while work was being done. I provided a 25% off coupon and there is no indication on the bill that any discount was applied. This operation is a joke at best. I ve never observed such u professionalism.

Went in for a serpentine belt and was told all my pulleys were seized and quoted 4400$. Took my truck for a second opinion at local garage and they replaced the belt and it was fixed for 170$! This is highway robbery! Pep Boys is not what it used to be! I can t help but feel deceived!! Thankfully I took the time to get a second opinion! I can t help but feel terribly that they most likely try to scam others the same way! Buyer Beware - to be specific this happened at the Portsmouth , NH location!

These people are scammers,They sold me 4 brand new winters tires November last year. This year I made an appointment to put the winter tires back on to the same location. They said they can't put the tires back because they are 5 years old. I said, I bought it from you last year, how come they are 5 years old. They said they made a mistake, they did not notice it when they sold me the tires, but they did now. And they tried to sell me another new set... How about it.?Never ever under any circumstances buy anything from these guys. They are real life legitimate scammers...

Vijay, front desk attendant, is dismissive, rude, and intentionally tries to steal money from customers. I was asked on check in, Friday June 2nd around 2:50pm, if my vehicle required tires would I like a quote for tires, to which I answered yes. I received a phone call at 2:58 pm, less than 10 minutes after dropping off my vehicle stating I needed tires and quoting me over $1,200 for tires. I assume Vijay automatically quotes customers for the most expensive tires in stock to make himself a little extra money. I asked the last time I had tires at Pepboys to which he responded 2019. I stated there was absolutely no way that I haven't had tires since 2019 and I stated I would call VIP Auto to look up my last tire purchase and get a quote from them. He then called me back at 3:20 to state that he had miraculously found that I had tires replaced in 2021. At this point I told him I was on a back road and the phone kept cutting out and I couldn't understand him. I hung up the call at that point and he proceeded to call me back four consecutive times at 3:22, 3:24, 3:24, and 3:27. When I was at an area to call, I requested the cheapest tires. Mind you, they haven t even really looked at my vehicle beyond tires at this point. I was then told I would receive a call when the vehicle was done to obtain payment (never have I ever prepaid for work on a vehicle before pickup). I told him it would take me a day or two to get the money together and I would be out of town for the weekend. Hold on because the plot thickens.Saturday June 3rd, I received a call stating that I would also need studs and lug nuts on my tires.I assume this was actually the source of the issue that I brought my car in for in the first place. I was informed of the cost and I authorized the work. Four days later on Tuesday June 6th at 10:57am I received another call that the studs on my vehicle could not be replaced individually and that the entire wheel bearing would need to be replaced and I was quoted an addition $600+ dollars in work, I was then spoken to by a mechanic who stated that since this was their mistake this portion of the work would be done at no additional cost to me. WAIT THERE'S MORE!!!!! At a date and time unknown to me my husband spoke with Pepboys and was informed that I needed two ENTIRE REAR AXLES!!!!! I don t exactly know why or what they did wrong to my vehicle to escalate the amount of work needed from tires, to wheel bearings, to AXLES!!!! My husband was told that the axle work would also be at no cost to us which is extremely suspicious to me. However 7 days later on Friday June 9th, my husband and I picked up my vehicle, which makes new rattling and belt squeaking noises it didn t prior to all this work! Also your sales associate or whatever, Vijay, parks diagonally across two spaces by the door to your establishment. As shown below, the black mercedes.

Pricing is outrageous here! I had the work done elsewhere for half the price!I was contacted by Pep Boys soon after I left this review. Big surprise right? Anyway they informed me that there would be an investigation and would contact me once completed. I requested a full refund. I have never heard back from them?.

Great service and awesome staff. I've sold cars to a couple of their guys so I shop here often. I recently had some tires and wheels mounted to my truck and was absolutely stunned when I saw it. Thanks guys! I'm headed in now for some little stuff. I appreciate what you do here!!-Matty V at Key

We were driving through the US on the way home to Canada and our check engine light came on. We stopped by the closest one and Liam took amazing care of us. They had us in the bay within an hour and diagnosed our car issues with information to take home to our local auto body shop. We are so thankful for everything they did for us to keep us and our babies safe!

I just had my truck back tire repaired. It had a screw in it. I called Pep Boys to see if they had time to do it. They said to bring it in they had time. I did, and it was repaired on the spot. Then when I went to pay they said it was no charge. That was my first time dealing with Pep Boys. When I need new tires I will definitely go to them.Thank you so much.

Had an issue with my van not starting and towed it over to Pep Boys. They diagnosed the van and said it was the alternator and that it will cost $2400 to fix it. After asking about the price breakdown, they have marked up the alternator part by $500. This is just scam. I towed the van out of Pep Boys to the closest dodge dealer ship and they have replaced the alternator for $1780. This place is a scam and up charge customers. Also, they said it will take almost a full week to get the alternator replaced. Dodge dealer ship got us back on the road within 1 day.

Worst customer service ever! I had an appointment scheduled for tire replacement at 1pm! Went there with a six month old baby and I left the car! Went back after 3 hours thinking that they are done or close to be done when I found my car in the same spot I parked and nothing was done. When I asked the front desk person to give me an update he answered "We are trying" with no other details and bad attitude. After about 4 hours I asked if I can borrow my keys for a minute to get my phone charger and when he came back with the keys, he told me that they are very behind and offered me to leave the car overnight or reschedule. He definitely knew at 1pm when I brought the car that they can't get it done soon or at all but failed to communicate. Don't waste you time, they are plenty of better places to service your car!

So they did a great job getting me my tires and keeping customer satisfaction high worth several mixups and issues but had to ultimatum go back 3 times to get everything taken care of, so 4 starts instead of 5.

Went in for an oil change, they informed me my tire was leaking air and got it patched up during the oil change. I was wondering why my tire was losing air. Amazing service thank you guys!

I received some shocking news that my new tires needed replacement. After calling a dozen places, Pep Boys Portsmouth was the obvious choice. They have a culture of caring about their customers that is unfortunately rare these days. They took precious time helping me select suitable tires. There was some urgency for me as one was close to blowing. They are also on top of their schedule and work hard to accommodate people, which means being flexible; something that's also hard to find these days.Pep Boys has a credit card that helped me spread the cost out a little and keep me moving safely.I can't speak for all the Pep Boys, but I'll be calling Portsmouth first, next time.

Outstanding service with the brake job of my son's car. Vijay kept me in the loop, set realistic expectations on how long it would take and delivered on the promise to get it done in a reasonable time. I will definitely use this location again in the future for my servicing needs.

Never go here! I m absolutely blown away by the lack of ability and knowledge this group of people posses. My car wouldn t start so I brought it here, simply because it s the closest place to me. Assumed it was a dead battery. These IDIOTS have charged me over $1000 in the past two weeks and they didn t even fix my car- they actually had the nerve to charge me full price along with a free piece of advice to have someone else look at it! When asked about the labor wasted on finding nothing out I got nowhere and they claimed they couldn t help me. To put things in perspective someone called me TWICE to tell me my fob key battery was dead and he actually thought it may have played a roll in my car not working meanwhile they re charging $160/ hour!?I should have immediately taken it somewhere else but I had faith and got burned. Thanks for help dudes, now I m out a grand and still don t have any answers! At least you got your commission thought right?!!
