Went to Easter brunch last year. It was terrible. Mostly seafood. Desserts were a poor selection. No omelette station, no bacon or sausage. Usually buffets have around 6 different tables - one for salads- they did not have. The food was very bland and very expensive. Will not go back

We had Christmas Brunch here a few years ago and enjoyed it so we thought it might be a great place for a getaway with the family but I was really disappointed in the quality and cleanliness of the room. We booked one of the nicer room options they had and I really wasn't impressed. The restaurant and room service were also slow and disorganized. Here are some things I took note of during our stay there two months ago:1. Housekeeping didn't clean at all the first day. When they did come, they did not replenish toilet paper and left dirty room service dishes in the room.2. Mold looking substance in shower3. No steak knife with $66 steak and many other items missing off room service orders.4. Dirty dishes left outside of another room down the hall for over 24 hours5. Pool area dingy/dirty by the windows, peeling paint6. Slow draining sinks7. Hole in the fitted sheet on king bed8. Chipped and loose bathrooms fixtures.9. No generator? Power was off overnight for a few hours.

This is a majestic hotel with everything you need for a little getaway. My wife and I celebrated our anniversary here and loved every bit of it. Staff was very pleasant minus one young lady having a bad day. Other than that we were incredibly pleased with our stay. Hope to come back again for another stay.Rooms: Clean and well keptFood & drinks: Very assessable and quick to bring to your room. They also have a wonderful restaurant in the hotel.

I have stayed at the Wentworth a few times as well as my daughters and I have to say since Opal bought it the service and attention to detail has gone down the tubes!. There is NEVER anyone in the dinning room to show you to your table. we had to wait for a while for the host to come after he had walked by us three times and never acknowledged us. the couch in our room was stained, the rug was stained and then went to pull out the sofa bed only to find out there are no sheets on the mattress. there no extra blankets or pillows. had to call for housekeeping to come and bring us linens. our room was not ready at 4 and finally had to go up to the desk at 4:15 and ask, at that point it was ready!!!. If it we did not have the fireplace in our room we would have been cold all night. the noise level in the hallway was awful, it was like people were in our room, not to mention a function was going on and the bedroom was right above the function room and I thought the people were in the hallway outside our room. The pool was great and the food was good but thats it. We wont be going back.

My wife and I have stayed here many time a over the years and we have had spa services every time we visit ever since opal has taken it over it has gone downhill so fast the service in the restaurant was horrible and the food was even worse for the price they charge this is unacceptable. The spa we dirty the trashes were chuck full there were no towels by the shower .... it's really sad to see someone we've enjoyed over the years go downhill so fast with new ownership and management not worth the money at all.

A beautiful seaside resort with super kind staff, clean, modern rooms, and a great location -- just 9 min from downtown Portsmouth and all of its great restaurants and shops. We were really impressed with our first stay. You get text updates before your stay and can continue texting the front desk if you need anything. The food at Salt was fantastic (albeit a bit pricey). Every staff member went out of their way to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. We will definitely be back!Rooms: Spacious, updated, and cleanNearby activities: Downtown Portsmouth is a quick drive away

The location is phenomenal. Most of the staff I encountered were very nice. The rooms themselves were a bit underwhelming. Our room wasn't much different than a room at LA Quinta. It was certainly not worth the cost. The spa and pools were wonderful. I would recommend staying at a place nearby (for a much lower rate) and booking services at the spa.

It's a shame this place has gone downhill since Opal took it over. We had a much nicer experience under Marriott. The property is beautiful, and the pool is nice, but that's where it ends. There is no service - especially housekeeping. We had a bag of dog excrement and a dirty coffee cup left on our patio. We had NO SHOWER CURTAIN and a DIRTY ROBE in the closet. The sofa was stained in multiple places. The veranda wasn't cleaned once in our 3 day stay. Dirty tables and dishes everywhere. Understaffed and frustrated service employees. We will be canceling the reservation we have for the spring, and unfortunately will not be back. Although we were offered a discount upon checkout, the rate we were paying did not come close to our experience, and management didn't really care other than to say a casual "We're sorry" any time we had an issue.

Beautiful room and water view, in a very beautiful nice quaint area, amazing hotel with a SPA in it! It was great! Got massage, hair mask, and got to sit in their sauna and hot tub to relax. Also they have an indoor AND outdoor pool with a bar, and great restaurant in the hotel that will deliver your food to the pool to you or wherever. Best hotel I've ever stayed in, definitely would go again and highly recommend. Would give 10 stars if possible.Noteworthy details: Hotel owned spa!!Indoor and outdoor pool with bar and Jacuzzi

Beautiful hotel on the ocean. The room was clean and comfortable. Very kind service (I think they might actually like working there)Worst thing: (not actually bad, but the worst thing about the experience) my family was stopping here on a road trip up the coast and so we had left overs from one stop or another and the front desk said no microwave but the restaurant can accommodate . Two clerks said this and the restaurant couldn t. Again, very reasonable as the restaurant didn t want to be blamed for mistakes/poisons of another restaurant or my poor storage. VERY reasonable I just would have liked to have known ahead of time.Best thing:Location. Yes it s a gorgeous location and you d probably love to have weddings and stuff there but we weren t in the hotel too much. There s a great park with a free beach super close. And really good restaurants in town.As I m finishing writing, my wife liked the text to check in on us as we settled in.Generally we liked it. It was more expensive than we often do but still stayed affordable with lots of benefits both in and out of the hotel.

What a fall from grace - have stayed a few times with good results but this stay was well below average. Our expensive water view room was tired and had curtains falling down, a broken vanity door that housekeeping just pushed back in place as if nothing was wrong, and the phone didn't work. Also, the in room safe battery was dead.On top of this we had room service breakfast and left for the day only to return and find they had left it as it was on the coffee table and cleaned AROUND the dishes. I called for a reclean and put the dishes in the hallway and went for dinner, only to return hours later in the evening and see the same breakfast dishes still hanging out. It seems there is no culture of responsibility and the people who came to clean the room in the evening clearly didn't think it was important to remove the dishes.... what?!!At the spa is a stern warning that if you put your robe or sandals into the laundry hamper after using them you'll be charged for each one. Like, what are we doing here?SALT restaurant was fine but had dead flies stuck to the ceiling tiles and all over the support column. Mentioned all this to MGMT, who did apologize, but I don't think there is any reason to return here.

I almost didn t come because of the comments I read in reviews. Glad I didn t listen to them. It was beautiful, the people were nice, the food was delicious, the rooms were nice. Could they use more staff, maybe! Could the check-in staff be trained a little better on how to warmly welcome guests, maybe! We don t stay in places like this often though, so maybe I don t know what I m missing. The price was high, but I thought it delivered in value. We came for our anniversary and it was so nice to arrive to a bottle of champagne on ice in our room with a hand written note. Thanks Wentworth by the Sea for a great experience!

First, I want to start this review by saying that the property and amenities are stunning. However, we tried to get in touch with a manager for over 24 hours to discuss our concerns and still have not heard back. We were told they would call us and despite us continuing to try and connect our request was ignored throughout our stay. The hotel had texted us asking what time we would be arriving and I said 3:30. When they said they might not be able to accommodate early check in we arrived at 4PM for an on time check in. We were told our room was not ready and they would call us when it was. The hotel was not sold out so we are unsure why they couldn t have just put us in a different room. We told the bellman that our room was not ready and asked if he could lock up our luggage which he said absolutely. We never received a call or text when our room was ready and when we went to get our luggage we found that it was not locked up, sitting outside, unattended in the heat with all of our valuables. We almost missed our 5PM dinner reservation, however the long standing shuttle driver was able to get us downtown. He was the highlight of the trip.We were planning on extending our stay, but after management continued to ignore us we decided it was best to just check out.Despite it being peak summer season the hotel seems extremely understaffed and not equipped to handle issues that arise. We will not be returning until all of the growing pains have been resolved (recent departure from Marriott), which is a shame because it is such a beautiful venue.

We came here for one night for a last minute, fun staycation with our two young daughters. We can t say enough great things about the hotel. We were able to check in 2 hours early and the gentleman who checked us in was so nice and friendly. Our room was fantastic - very clean and spacious with a great view overlooking the bay. We took advantage of the indoor pool which was a huge hit. For dinner, we opted to eat in the lounge at SALT which did not disappoint. The lounge is first come first served but we didn t have a problem getting a table. They had a great kids menu, and the food was delicious. Our waitress was wonderful with our kids and was attentive. Overall, we had a fantastic time and will definitely come back!Rooms: Spacious, clean and good sized bathroom. Comfortable beds.Food & drinks: Fun atmosphere at SALT.Fresh food and fun drinks

Wentworth by the Sea's restaurant 'SALT' was everything we hoped. The perfect place to celebrate our 54th Anniversary. The dinner was delicious and elegantly presented. Our waiter Will was extremely attentive. My husband and I were made to feel very special. Can't wait to go back!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND.Food & drinks: Outstanding food coupled with a great selection of the finest wines and cocktails.

This is an old building. The AC was great - which was important since our room was on the top floor. One day we had to call to remind them to make up the room. The person who finally answered after 17 rings was rather disinterested in doing much about it.The $35 per person per day gets you two bottles of water and towels at the pool. That's really overpriced compared to resort fees at similar places. There is a nice indoor pool - although it is old and not super well maintained. The one outdoor pool (They advertised having three pools - that isn't true) is across the parking lot and completely inaccessible to anyone with a disability. The pool had plenty of loungers at various times of day but in general was loud and not well-maintained.The rooms have a coffee maker that does not dispense hot water. I called the desk to ask about getting a kettle, and they immediately offered to send up hot water. Imagine my surprise when I was charged $6.50 for a half-filled teapot of barely warm water. We felt nickeled and dimed the entire visit, and from the line of folks at checkout complaining about their bills, I think we were not alone in feeling that way.

Wentworth by the Sea in Portsmouth offers a classic New England seaside resort experience. The hotel is a blend of historic charm and modern luxury, with rooms that are comfortable and well-appointed. Views of the sea and the marina are breathtaking. The on-site dining options offer a range of culinary delights, with seafood being a particular highlight. The service is generally attentive and welcoming.

everything was great, three pools were all super warm. The AC in our room was broken and they didn't fix it but gave us an option to have a free night or that $ back. The bar has great cocktails, friendly staff.

We booked the Marina Suite for our first weekend without our kids since they were both born. We were granted early check-in which I was thankful for and the room itself was as advertised in the photos.I did mention under service requests when booking that my wife and I were hoping for a romantic weekend away. I was a little surprised there were no welcome amenities acknowledging this. I'm not talking like rose petals and swans in the tub, but like a chocolate on the bed with a note saying enjoy your stay would have been nice. Our fireplace did not work the first night - which is half the charm of the space. We called for an engineer and half an hour later cancelled the service call to go to sleep.I had to follow up to get someone to come fix the next day - which they did, but there was no offer to make up for the oversight or apology. For the price of the room, I would have expected like a complimentary breakfast or something, and when I asked if they would do anything they said they would remove the $50 fireplace fee like it was my fault they didn't check to see if the fireplace was working before I arrived.Overall we enjoyed our stay, but it was not due to the staff or the service which was average at best. Maybe I'm just getting old, but when you pay this much for a room - I expected more from a full service hotel than to feel like I was renting a nice Air BnB that delivers food.

Thoroughly meh, particularly for the price point. The room was very dated, albeit clean. The pet fee is also an eyewatering $100 per night, which results in a basement room, beneath the ballroom and adjacent to smaller function rooms.Front desk service was fine, but not befitting of a supposed luxury property. It appears that no longer being affiiliated with Marriott has caused a steep decline.
