After my loyal mechanic retired I went looking for a shop that was upfront, honest and that does great work. I will look no further than Nicks. Tony is honest and very very thorough giving you the power to have a decision in your auto repairs. Pricing done with options and he explains every step of your repair from your first phone call to completing the job. Amazing!! Great shop hands down we will go no where else!Service: General repairs & maintenance

I have taken my car to Nick's twice in the past year for different issues. They are simply the best. Accommodating, professional, informative and honest. As a single, semi-retired female I could not have found a better shop for my car. While they may not be the most inexpensive shop in town, I feel confident I will not be taken advantage of here. Thanks guys!!

Man, My brake line burst today. Very scary. I called The big name places. Les Schwab Big o tires tires Plus discount tire. Not one of them can service a dually that has wheel spacers in the back. Even though it was a break issue. They told me that they wouldn't service my vehicle. I called Nick and he had me in within an hour and my truck back on the road by the end of the day. They say everything happens for a reason, then I guess that reason today is so I could find a mechanic that's responsive trustworthy and has great customer service. We had a well needed quick 2 day trip planned to Relax in Reno. We live about 3 hours away. In Truckee we stopped for gas and on the exit our car shut off. It would not restart and we had to be pushed off of the highway into a gas station parking lot. It was a Sunday so it was impossible to find any open automotive shops, very few tow companies and not any car rental places near us answered. I was advised by Highway Patrol to try and get my car to Reno where we had been headed, the prices would be more reasonable and there would be more options of places to take it. After 5+ hours of 100 degree heat in a parking lot and a lot of frustration locking in a tow company we got the car to Nick's Automotive in Reno. I spoke with the owner first thing Monday morning and explained what happened. I could hear the phone ringing and he explained they were swamped with work. I told him that we only had accommodations through the following day and he was so kind to squeeze in a diagnostic to see what was going on. He was a complete lifesaver. Very quickly he got to the root of the issue, my timing belt was broken. He explained that this could and most likely would have damaged the valves in the engine and that would be quite a huge repair. He also explained the only way to know would be to replace the belt and see if the motor ran smoothly. Even though they were booked 3 weeks out he took my situation to heart and managed to get the part and replace the belt that same day. The repair worked and with some kind of luck my valves were ok. To ensure we got home safely he also changed out my filthy oil. I can not speak more highly of this shop! Everything necessary was throughly explained, I was not charged an outrageous amount, my repairs were squeezed in to their busy schedule and I was treated very kindly in a very stressful situation. The owner of this shop was so helpful. He enabled us and our car to travel safely home and for this I can't say thank you enough!Service: Oil change

I truly want to give him a higher rating but I just can't, not because he doesn't do good work because he does I've been there a few times, however, because when things tight for Tony he recommends services I didn't need. He charged me $200 to diagnose my car, with services for $2,000. When in actuality you should have only charged me $100 to diagnose my simple and the repair was anywhere from $650 to $950 depending on where you go. Nowhere near $2,000. So if your insurance covers he will do great. Honestly and I mean honestly I seen him give people a break on a price because they didn't have the money, I want to say that he's a good man, but if things are tight and business is not flowing he will overcharged you like he did me. He doesn't do it all the time just when things tight. This was my experience I'm just telling the whole truth honest to God.This guy has my full name and address. I even spoke with him over the phone more than once more than twice more than three times. So now we all know this guy is also a Liar.I'm a very easy person to call, look up, and I have spoken with him several times. Nick keeps a file of all the work he has done on the right side of his door... I'm in there. You see, it's people like this that say anything once they are caught red handed. He offered for me to come in and he will make this right. However, why would anyone in their right mind go back to the same person who has continued to take advantage of them. I'll pass. Nick is one of those people who cannot treat all customers fair, honest, the same. If he believes he can get over on you, with a straight face, and eyes glasses on his forhead, he will. ' scratch a liar find a thief.' That's Tony/ Anthony/ "Nick." I'm sure he will continue to lie and say something, but we all know a complete liar when we see one.Service: Electrical repair

Tony the owner was very patient and kind to me. It's hard being a women and ways worried some clown will take advantage of you at the mechanic. He was straight up and did not take advantage of me. The work he quoted me is not what essentially needed to be done. He did what he had to do to fix it at a third of the price. And offered to look at some other things for me when I had spare time. He is now my mechanic!!! Thanks Tony & Team!

Great shop. Tony makes sure that you understand exactly what is wrong with your vehicle, and what your options are with regards to parts and repairs. They also check the systems that relate to the repair, and gives a heads up about issues to watch out for.He also gets your vehicle fixed fast.I refer people in my orbit that need work done on their vehicle to Nick's without hesitation.Services: General repairs & maintenance, Engine repair

I would 100% recommend this shop. I was passing through Reno when my car broke down and this shop was able to take my car in and start working on it right away. The owner did a great job explaining to me exactly what was wrong with my car and why I needed to replace or repair certain parts. I ended up needing to replace the engine. He was able to find me a rebuilt engine and had it replaced in just a few days to make sure it was finished in time so that I could make it back to the Bay Area for work. This shop and its owner are very honest and approachable and do great work in record time. I would definitely recommend this shop for any automotive needs, whether you just need an oil change or something more major like having your engine or transmission repaired. Overall, I am very happy with the quality and speed of service, not to mention a fair price and an honest mechanic.Services: Engine repair, Auto maintenance, Oil change

I came to Nick s automotive because my 2012 Nissan Altima was making a strange noise when I would accelerate. Come to find out it was my Wheel bearing that needed to be replaced on the driver and passenger side. I m traveling from out of town and only in Reno for a couple of days. Tony was able to fit me in same day despite being understaffed. Tony explained to me in great detail what a wheel bearing was and how it works in the car. I never felt pressured to make a decision which I appreciated. My car was done in a timely manner and he also informed me that I needed to replace a tire before my trip back. Tony and Rick were AMAZING and I literally can t thank them enough! I m so glad I trusted them with my car! Definitely would be back with my car needs if I m ever in the area! 5 stars! Very fair! The owner Anthony went out of his way to find me a radiator for my 03 Chevy truck. It took him 3 hrs to find. He overnighted it and installed it the next day by 3:00. First off I'd like to say that I am very picky on who works on my car , I find it hard to find honest people I took my car to Nick's based on a recommendation from my sister.the owner Anthony is very knowledgeable professional and friendly, he not only showed me what was wrong with my car gave me several options for a fix and a discount on my parts. I went in and Tony was very helpful and Knowledgeable and took me in the back and had one of his mechanic guy came to check my car as well his name was Rick and immediately knew the issue my car had with only taking a quick look and Rick show me what he was doing and was very satisfied with their services and honest work. Anthony/Tony @ Nick's Automotive is the most thorough mechanic in the business. He explains everything to you, so that you can make an educated decision. I have taken 3 cars to them and have been extremely happy with the timely service and outcome. I trust him with every one of my vehicles. He has been in the business a long time and helps steer you away from others that may do you and your vehicle harm. I will only use Nick's in the future. It's very hard to find a good mechanic...Anthony is a great find!!!

Came in with a major rack & pinion issue (2014 Subaru) that needed repair quick. Nick was extremely helpful, upfront, and professional about the whole process. I had done my research before coming in and even compared several different auto locations but Nick was very honest with his price and got my car done that next day. Highly recommend

I brought my stratus in before a bug road trip. Tony was super nice and honest with everything my car needed done. He flushed all the fluids in my car including giving me a new radiator all so I would be safe on my trip. I really appreciated the honesty and genuine car Tony has for all of his clients. This place is awesome and if I need anything else done this will be my new auto shop! :)

I had taken my car to get a smog check at a different location and the battery ended up dying so I bought a new one only to have it die again. I drop started it and was driving around calling places panicking. My pet was at the vet and already was just off to a rough start so I called nick. Nick proceeded to tell me that where I went wasn't a mechanic (I was just trying to get it smogged) and to pick a better spot so I dont get ripped off. Also then proceeded to tell me that he had no space to take me in (which is fine I know the worker shortage sucks) but then said he would hold it for maybe 3-4 days before getting to work on it. I was already in tears driving my dead car with a quarter tank of gas. Could be a super qualified mechanic but I just didn't enjoy the phone call we had and showed no compassion for the situation.

I'm new to Reno, so when my car started running funny and the dreaded check engine light came on, I had no idea where to take it.I did some research and fortunately Nick's was right down the street and had good reviews. When I got there I was nothing less than impressed. Everyone was very professional and friendly, and I got my car back the same day. My car knowledge is pretty limited, and if I had any questions they were explained in layman's terms without any condescension.You don't normally want to come back to a mechanic - but if I do end up needing to, I'll be coming back here.

Tony is very knowledgeable and will take the time to explain the issues and provide a detailed summary of the work completed and related charges. My two kids and I all drive high mileage (very) cars and have had the occasion to have our 2 Subaru s and our Toyota Sienna in for repairs and maintenance ranging from timing belts to air conditioning, transmission flush and all gaskets and all fluids replaced. The work is very high quality and timely we will definitely always take our cars to Nick s Automotive.

We traveled to Tahoe during Xmas 2021. The big winter storm blocked our ways back home. Highway50 and I-80 were closed. My car wiper arm was dislocated and the battery was dead. When Nick let me drive my car in his shop, I knew I was in the right place. He fixed the wiper arm and replaced the battery in front of me. If you are looking for a regular shop can be trusted, or you are like me just traveling to Reno and don t want to be overcharged, Nick s place is your best choice.Service: General repairs & maintenance

I am very nervous about using private auto shops, and being fairly new to town I was unfamiliar with who was good and who was not. I goggled auto shops, and Nick's Automotive came up with a stellar review. Trusting the previous reviews and comments I called Nick's Automotive, and right away was able to take my car in. After less than an hour (and that was even after looking for a part that my car needed) I was on the road. Tony was GREAT! he explained everything to me that they were doing, AND in addition to explaining what they were doing, gave me options. I didn't feel forced or tricked into anything. Since that first time approximately three months ago, I have taken my car there again and once again was completely satisfied with the service. I would recommend this place to anyone who needs automotive service. For those not comfortable with dealers, and auto maintenance people I would also highly recommend Nick's, I can tell you I am much more comfortable now having my car worked on.

Great, honest mechanics. I've been using them for years, they've always been great to deal with. Tony always takes the time to properly diagnose and discuss your options. He always goes above and beyond to be sure that you leave happy and informed about what's going on with your vehicle.

I have been taking my vehicles to Nick's for many years. Tony has always been honest and fair with me. He takes the time to explain everything to me in detail so I can understand what's what. I love the customer service, fast return, thorough inspections and "done it right the first time" repairs. Thank you, Tony!!!
