I d be a little leery of having these guys do work on your car air conditioner. My Subaru cross treck AC/heater just stop blowing air. I took it to these guys. They charge me $99 for a diagnostic and told me they had to replace the fan, the control panel for $1100 and at that point only the heater would work. It would be about another $400 to get the air conditioner work. When the fellow there was explaining to me, what was wrong he wasn t very clear. Because my air conditioner was working fine up until the point it stopped blowing. I was about to go ahead and have them do the work but my gut was telling me somethings wrong here. I had even given them my keys and called an Uber to take me back to the house but at the last minute I took my keys back and canceled the Uber and drove out of there. I went down to Pasadena California and took it to another air conditioning specialist And he told me it was the control panel wiring that was messed up. So they replaced the control panel and fix the wiring for $800 and they completed it in a couple of hours.I still probably over paid but it was a whole lot better than $1400. After I got it back, everything was fine. The air conditioner work and the heater worked.I strongly recommend you get a second opinion, and do not believe everything these folks tell you!Even though I drove to Southern California with no heater or AC, I felt like I won this battle I m not very mechanical, but I urge everybody trust your gut!

Mike and the guys really took care of me and provided great service. They only charged me for the services I needed and let me know what was coming next but could wait. I felt they were honest and respected me.

I always take my car here for any problems or maintenance. This time they replaced my water pump, and I felt the charge was competitive. They were kind to answer my questions and are always good to work with.

Currently working with them to get my AC fixed. Mike is fantastic! Great customer service! He even went the extra mile to help us find a more affordable compressor since it was covered under our warranty insurance. They always answer the phone right away, and make sure they explain themselves in depth so the customer knows exactly what is going on. Love the transparency! Thank you Mike for all your hard work!Service: Auto A/C replacement

This place used be good. 3 years ago they replaced my water pump. A year later I brought it in for a different repair. After the repair was done I went to pick up my truck. They said I would need a water pump again just after 1 year. Well it's been over 2 years now and about 60,000 miles plus pump still good. My granddaughter had a leak in her radiator. They told her she needs a water pump also and they would not replace the radiator with out replacing the water pump. Went to a different shop and they said the water pump was fine.Service: Auto water leak repair

I had a power steering fluid leak and I decided to replace the pump. They replaced the pump knowing there was a leak in the system. Still leaking the exact same amount of fluid. I would have expected a good repair shop to evaluate the leak before replacing parts and advising total repairs. Also it s kinda fishy that my windshield wiper fluid hoses were backwards after the pump swap.

Outstanding shop! Took my car in for AC diagnostic. The problem was found quickly, the estimate was accurate, and every one was really nice. My AC feels better than new.

Our Serpentine belt started smoking on our '92 Dodge D250, turned off our a/c and it stopped smoking. Because it's an old truck we keep spare parts on hand for repairs we can do ourselves. A/C problems are not within our capabilities so we took it to American Auto Air. We were prepared to have the compressor replaced. After Mike and Tim tested everything, they found the tensioner, not the a/c compressor had frozen up. All we needed was a tensioner and new belt - which we had with us in our spare parts. Many repair shops won't allow the customer to supply their own parts - American Auto Air did. That combined with their honesty (they could've told us we needed a new compressor and we would not have known the difference) earned them a five star review.Service: A/C installation & repair

I self-troubleshooted a very commonly documented issue with a 2014 Subaru Crosstrek AC compressor (clutch plate engages intermittently) and brought it in to have it fixed. Shane called me back saying the compressor was fine but the issue was that the AC and spark plug gaskets were leaking. Not what I expected, but I said OK because they do this for a living and seem trustworthy. $1700 later we get the vehicle back and within 20 minutes it's intermittently blowing hot air again - same issue as before. I called them back to take a look. When I brought the car in and let them know it was yet again intermittently blowing hot air, Shane IMMEDIATELY said "Oh that's a super common issue with these Subarus, the compressor is going out!"......He then tells me it will be another $1200 to fix it. So without even looking at the vehicle again he told me the issue was what I told him what the issue was originally...I would not recommend taking your vehicle to American Auto Air and Repair due to the following:1. Not diagnosing a "very common issue" right away until after you've spent $1700 the first time to fix "the real problem"2. Not verifying the quality of work by testing the repairs done, unless you count running the AC for probably less than 5 minutes as a checkNeedless to say I declined to have my vehicle repaired here for a second time and am taking my business to a different mechanic. The front desk receptionist is incredibly nice though.Service: A/C installation & repair

Good grief!! You just don t get amazing customer service like this anymore!!!! Waaay above and beyond to get my AC fixed within a short window of time so I could be on the road traveling for my job again. I can t sing the praises enough of Mike, Jim (the mechanic who worked fast and precisely!) and Mike s son (the brains behind their computer systems). All are the long-lost combo of caring and professional. A million thanks to you all! ~ Merrit Shuler

My first review on this company was a one star. After given time, the good quality of the service conducted outweighed the poor customer service I received at the time. The AC outfit they conducted on my old truck was very expensive, but turned out to be great, which made me change my review to reflect the good job they did, at the end of the day. I would recommend them.Services: A/C installation & repair, Air conditioning

Went to this establishment about 21 years ago when my a/c wasn't working in my Suburban. Nothing was wrong except a mouse had made a house and blocked the vents with car insulation! Very honest about the issue and didn't charge me for something I didn't need.I recently had to bring my daughter's car in as her a/c had been not working properly for a few years. They diagnosed and fixed a problem that was misdiagnosed at 2 other repair shops (in Oregon) and now her car is nice & cool. I absolutely recommend this company for their great work and fair, honest prices!

American Auto Air and repair is the only place to go!!! I went without air conditioning for a few years because I was told by a place that I trusted with the care of my car, that it would cost me over a $1,000 to be fixed. I was told that the whole thing had to be replaced. Enough was enough so I took it to American Auto Air And Repair and Boom this girl has air now! It cost less than$1,000 and did not need the whole unit replaced. The service I received from American auto air and repair was Excellent and over the top customer service!! They are honest, friendly and they get you in and out. With there over the top service, I am willing to drive from Carson city to get the care my car needs:) Thank you so much for your service!! You guys Rock!! So does Melissa:):)

My husband put the serpentine belt on wrong. But of course he would not admit it and wanted them to just do the work and replace everything, without a diagnostic. I had them do a diagnostic and they caught it very quickly and fixed it and we were out the door. Great service and wonderful to deal with.

Very happy to have found them when my AC went out while travelling through Reno. They used quality parts and explained the issue clearly and understandable. The price is what I would have expected. Plus the extra of them knowing what they are doing is well worth it. Thank you.

The folks at the auto hospital did a professional job in a hero's time frame. My wheel hub bearing has never been so quiet. My boys absolutely enjoyed their experience as meeting the mechanics son gave them plenty to do! For those stuck in a situation you may not be sure hot to fix, DEFINITELY bring it to the auto hospital!

Spent $800 dollars less than a year ago to get my ac fixed. They wanted 700 dollars to fix next July. I used my AC a handful of times. Mechanic meantioned Mike may not know we did this repair last year.. he did and laughed at me when I said 1500 dollars for two seasons of ac was too much. Told me he had a $4000 ac repair today. Maybe latch my hood next time you're done too. Thanks for waiving the diagnostic fee you agreed to not charge when I made the appointment two weeks ago. These guys are busier than hell and have one mechanic that knows what he's doing. Don't waste your time.

LADIES DONT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE HEREI went in for a new key ignition switch and repair electrical short in windows/ locks. Fixed ignition. Before scheduled time. Didn't fix electrical. Charged me for it. Told me it was too much work. Bring it back this winter!? It's like asking to have A/C fixed and being told that's too hard to do right now. Bring it back this winter. Don't need A/C in winter. Don't really use windows as much in winter. They wanted to sell me a new battery for over $300. My top of the line battery, name brand(less than $150)clearly marked less than 2 years old under warranty/ free replacement. Didn't replace it. I had to do it myself. Ignition went out again. Got charged more to fix what they missed the first time .Had a brake check. They said they were fine.ABS light is on and brake pedal goes to the floor,Now.They had vehicle over a week. Couldn't get it back until they were about to close so I paid the bill and was not able to test drive it. Looking back that may have been their plan, because when I went to pick up the car the battery was dead and the drivers door hinge was missing/cut out.I replaced the hinge 6 months ago. It keeps the door open halfway or fully.Monday morning I took it back to American AA and for two weeks since. Being jerked around with we're looking into it, the boss isn't here .Today they are dening responsibly.Their excuse.....wait for it. We didn't use that door.....it's the driver's door.! How did you get in and out of the vehicle? These guys are the worst. I'm a shade tree mechanic and they jerked me around.

Leaving this review on behalf of my father. The air conditioning in his car went out and this scam shop quoted a new air compressor for $1,400. Took it to the dealership for a second quote and one of the hoses simply had a leak. Was taken care of by the dealership for less than $200. Do your homework people! Scaming businesses like this prey on the ill informed.

The first person I talked to was polite and respectful and answered a few questions about my vehicle. When I called a second time to possibly set up a appointment the second guy I spoke to was rude and I didn't appreciate it. Called this place on a recommendation and because the second person I talked to was rude I am going somewhere else where my business will be appreciated. Maybe they need to teach customer service skills to the employees especially on how to talk to people on the phone.

My automobile air conditioning had stopped working. A friend recommended American Auto Air. A $60 diagnosis was required before any work. The diagnosis on my vehicle was that the compressor was leaking fluid and needed to be replaced. The estimate for the service was approximately $1,000.Before I proceeded with the repair I bought a refrigerant re-charge kit at the local Wal-mart for approximately $20 and followed the directions. It worked perfectly, suggesting that the repair was not necessary.

We needed a new a/c compressor in my wife's 70 Camaro during Hot August Nights. They said they were booked up until the middle of the following week, but we needed it by Sun. (This was Wed.) Tom, the owner listened to our story and finally said he'd have it done by Fri. The next day he called and said it was finished. They went over and above what they had to do, and they did a great job. It works better now than it has in years. We highly recommend American Auto Air.

I live an hour s drive from Reno in Graeagle, California. A local auto repair shop in my area diagnosed the problem in my 2009 Honda Odyssey as a defective A/C compressor. I called Tom at American Auto Air to make an appointment, and I told him about that diagnosis. He said they would do their own diagnosis when I came in for my appointment, and he cautioned me that if there was mechanical damage inside the compressor, there could be metal particles in the system that would be very expensive to remove, but also said it was unlikely that would be the case. I showed up for my appointment fully expecting to pay $950 for replacing the compressor and sat down to wait for the work to be done. About 90 minutes later, Tom came to the waiting room to tell me the work was finished and the van did not need a new compressor, just a new relay. The bill was $175. My experience at American Auto Air speaks volumes about the integrity of this shop.

We were very happy with the service at American Auto. The day before taking our daughter to UNR, the air conditioner died. Local shop in NE Nevada quoted $1100 for new compressor. American Auto worked with my daughter's schedule, providing transportation to and from UNR. American Auto assessed the situation and determined it was a faulty switch. Customer service was great. Will not hesitate to use this shop again if we experience car problems in the future.
