WARNING: All work only has a three month warranty and it won t last you. Also, the owner has no want to please customers.Long story short, I spent about $5k at this shop, had to return multiple times for various issues pertaining to the work he had done which was not easy as I was 2 hours away. After many visits, inspections, and months of him saying it was PERFECT, I drove 9 hours to visit family in my Vanagon only to have to return to a new mechanic which had to fix almost everything Tom had touched. Now my vehicle actually runs correctly (Thanks to Bugstuff in Pennsylvania). However, when I tried to reconcile this issue with Tom and show records proving negligent or incorrect work, I was met with much resistance, a condescending attitude, and no solutions. ***Would NOT recommend to anyone!!***

Tom has a vast knowledge of air cooled Volkswagen vehicles. His Daughter was running the front counter and was very good to work with. Tom took the time to explain what work was needed. I trust and value his opinion. Tom's the best. I showed up with a blown up motor when I had called prior with just an overheat issue and Tom not only had a rebuilt block ready to go but went above and beyond to get me back on the road. He's a man of his word, and the front office was wonderful.

Worked on our vanagon. Owner seemed knowledgable and assured us that the vanagon was running as well as it could after bringing it back 3 times for a persistant heavy oil leak. Had to spend nearly the same amount at another shop to fix his work and get it running like we had expected it too after leaving Tom s with a rebuilt engine. Tried to call about any warranty and they only back their work for 3 months. Would not recommend.

Thanks for being open early and getting my son in right away! He just bought his first car and was driving back to school from Iowa to WV when he started getting a bad vibration over 50mph. Thankfully it was just ice and snow pack from this crazy snow and cold weather storm and he was back on the road!

Can't say anything about the service as I didn't use it, but they have an Indeed profile that they made and know about, but is managed by somebody they don't even know according to Tom? Made me waste an hour and a half of my time and gas to come down for an "in person interview" just to get told off immediately for not being a "master mechanic", even though they came to me first asking if I was interested in a job, and offered me an interview. Other than that, the service advisor was a nice man, but the owner seemed condescending.

Went in for an inspection and they failed me because of my horn wasn t working and a couple break lights were out. I come to find out that the horn DOES work just with two buttons on the steering wheel. Had a family member check if the break light was out afterwards to find that WAS working as well. When they gave me a quote for everything I noticed that they inflated the price of the actual part by quite a fair bit however this isn t unusual for most shops . Service was pretty ok, Tom was a little hard to work with but he s been in business for a very long time, and I m sure he knows a lot. As someone that knows quite a lot about cars I was able to catch these mistakes however it left a sour taste in my mouth that it was one less mechanic I could trust.

Took my 91 ford pickup in for an inspection and failed for 4 things: Horn, Hi beam indicator, 3rd brake lamp ( ) and brake hoses. Horn was a fuse and replaced the brake hoses. But they somehow didn t realize that my hi beam indicator is on the floorboard and the 3rd brake lamp is a cargo lamp and these trucks didn t have that until 94 . Tom kept asking me if I wanted these to get fixed without actually explaining the problem.Fast forward to today. I went in to get reinspected (on the 20th day). Tom was super aggressive from the beginning. I was missing one of the yellow forms they gave me (in my truck somewhere) and had the receipt showing I paid and what failed. Tom wouldn t budge on letting me get reinspected. He even THREW my yellow receipt paper back at me. I found the form he wanted shortly after departing but I will never take any vehicle there ever. And would recommend that no one does. They will fail you for no reason and take your money. Plus they lack the skills to work on a 91 vehicle because they don t know how they work.Be wary of this place. Bad service. Bad work. Bad attitudes.

I have a 1972 vw super beetle and I have had a wonderful experience with them. I bought my vw and initially took it to Walt s and I m telling you just go to Tom s the first time. They have been so helpful friendly and knowledgeable. They called to let me know what they fixed per my request when I dropped it off and let me know what other issues they found and if I wanted them taken care of, they explained my options and have just been so amazing to work with. I picked up my car today he showed me the parts he took of and why they needed to be replaced. Amazing service I will not take my car anywhere else.Service: General repairs & maintenance

My daughter attends Mizzou and I am about 4 hours away so when I received the phone call that her car was acting up I had a lot of anxiety over it. Being 4 hours away and not familiar with the local businesses I turned to Google and their reviews. From there it was a phone call to quickly assess their demeanor. I felt a little better after talking to them and reading reviews. I setup an appointment for my daughter to take her car in. The appointment was for Friday but we dropped it off Monday. To my surprise they called on Monday with an initial diagnosis and also explaining what else could be wrong with it but they won't know till they fix the first problem. A couple hours later with no further repairs needed the car was done. Very fair price, upfront and honest with the diagnosis and fixed right. Beyond that, they made my daughter feel comfortable. Thanks guys!!Service: Engine repair

At one time this business was a place I trusted. However I would never trust them again with anything mechanical or with bodywork especially. They successfully destroyed the body work on my van half of which had to be redone with the rest to be redone when it can be afforded. Mechanical flaws were also an issue as I ve discovered over time. Run!

Warning: I believe most of these reviews are fake profiles that are made up to boost a business. The technicians here are amazing. The owner though? If you look up unprofessional in the dictionary you'll find him highlighted. I brought in my vehicle for a preventative front-end rebuild and rear shocks. I brought factory European parts because I'm meticulous about my vehicle. The owner agreed to the work which was a plus, as most shops refuse to use customer parts, and for good reason. They lose their markup and if it fails they can't warranty the work. The owner Tom told me he wouldn't give an estimate because the parts probably aren't right and he'll have to modify the parts to work. I said that there's a 99.9% chance they're right as they were OEM parts ordered via VIN number from a VW parts dealer. He wanted my business, but didn't want to quote a price. I then speak to a service writer who was amazing and took the time to speak to me. He saw my parts and agreed that they were the correct parts and he gave me my quote. I specifically asked to be called if there WAS any issues i.e. parts needed or recommended repairs. I would approve them and they could proceed. The service writer said "yes we'll call if it needs anything." It's an expected part of auto repair. You run into things while fixing a vehicle and call the customer so you can repair something while it's already apart. Two days later I get the call that it's ready. I pick it up and Tom said it needed rear shock mounts which I didn't supply. He stated it made a little noise but was fine to operate. Even though I didn't supply that part, a courtesy phone call saying "hey the rear mounts are rough, and you didn't bring any. Want us to fix them?" would have been the standard. Tom said I could bring it back at a later date to fix it.Less than 150 feet I knew something was wrong. The whole rear end felt like it would give out at any moment. I get the parts overnighted and drop it back off. I get a call 2 hours later saying it's finished and with another labor quote.... Another 120 dollars for something that should have been done prior with no charge except parts. I have no qualms paying for parts/labor to properly fix a vehicle as was agreed upon. Just don't say it's fixed but it needs a part that should have been changed during the initial repair.Tom refused to budge on the 2nd shop time. He then started blaming me. "I told you this would be issue. You brought in own part it's your fault. Price is non-negotiable. This is why I have problem with you."Complete and total lack of professionalism. I will take my business to Walts again. Nearly 900 dollars later I feel taken. Avoid this shop like the plague.

Tom was not only rude but overtly aggressive with us. He failed our vehicle because he didn t know how to operate the older vehicle (floorboard switch for high beams) and for things that our vehicle doesn t have due to being an older model (3rd brake lamp) as well as things that do work (horn). We repaired the one item that actually needed fixing and returned for reinspection at which time Tom immediately began yelling and being aggressive with us because we did not have the rejection notice (although he had several copies). We are usually very understanding and would have left to find the paper had he not immediately berated us and even THREW the paper at us twice. This man has zero customer service skills and his reaction to our experience shows me that he most likely acts like this often. As a young woman I felt very unsafe. Please do not go here if you are a woman alone or a young poc. Stay safe!!Service: Vehicle safety inspection

Stay away from this outfit if you can, as they did a poor job and also lied about facts; I had the water pump replaced on a BMW X5; they charged me for a lot of other items (belts, pulley, liquid tank, cap) that they changed without permission. The new pump failed after less than 2000mi. When i brought the defective pump back for a refund, Tom slandered me by insisting that the pump i returned (which I had to change in Denver, as car failed there) was not one they had changed, but the one they had taken out of my vehicle, even though they never even showed me the old pump at time of service. Moreover, even though he was the one who ordered the new pump, so the only one who could get a refund for it, he did not even give me a refund for the defective pump, not to mention for any of the $679 i lost in this botched job. Moreover, when i brought this to the attention of the better business bureau, in his reply he lied in writing that i returned the pump past the 6 moths warranty period, even though i have documentation such statement was false. Therefore not only did they do a poor mechanical job, but also were inflexible and did not accept any degree of responsibility in this failed repair, constantly accusing me of fraud and surpassed deadlines, instead of accepting responsibility.Service: Auto water leak repair

Haven't gone there yet...looking forward to some excellent customer service . Ok- I have seen, I have gone...I have Enjoyed! Thus us VW heaven with some lesser 'angels' allowed in.They like Bugs, Mercs, Audis- though, your Honda may find a great home here. Come in, talk abit(not too long, though); then relish the fact that your conveyance is in very good hands and how you are treated here matters to Mr. Tom and his faithful crew- not an easy chore working on a stubborn auto, in the heat, and with a few more repairs to be attended to. Rest assured that your auto is of their upmost concern and that you are happy with their efforts. Oh, enjoy also the picture collection in their entrance lobby...quite a history.

First of all, it's an older shop. Yep, they don't have a coffee bar, but that's not why I took my car here. I have a 2002 Passat, have owned it for 10+ years. I was about 30K over due for a timing belt repair. This includes water pump, belt, seals, etc. I left the car here while we went on vacation and picked it up on way home. Great service, Price was excellent (this is not a cheap service, but can be devastating if not done). I no longer have to worry about snapping a belt and ruining the engine. My guess is about $1200 cheaper than other spots, and they KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING. and can do it with their eyes closed.Service: Engine repair

I had Tom swap out a busted engine with a replacement for my '87 BMW. He took the oil pump from the busted engine and used that on the replacement engine. At no point did he seek my approval on this decision (had he asked, I would've told him to use a new oil pump, obviously). The oil pump failed a week later while I was going 70 mph on the interstate. The replacement engine, the one that I had sunk over $1k into with Tom, was dead after.. gasket blown, piston heads busted.I bought the car from Tom. It was my first car. I really loved that car..Trust him at your own will. I never will.

Don't waste your time or money. Spent over $2200 to have them fix a coolant leak and my AC but I still have a coolant leak and no AC.Trying to get them to fix something they already were paid to fix has been a nightmare. Wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy.

Tom's Imports is the best! We've taken our 1984 Scirocco, now with 269,000 miles, to Tom's for years. I wouldn't take our VWs anywhere else!
