James is great and extremely helpful if you are doing your own work. I saved probably $400 by changing a wheel bearing and doing my own oil change. Highly recommend

This week icy roads and a round-a-bout left my daughters car with bent tie rods and an abnormal noise but thank God no injuries. I own an auto repair shop but since I'm 5 hours away the first option for me was to search for shops in Columbia, that's when I saw The Tuning Spot had a 4.9 star rating and gave them a call, so glad I did. James answered the phone, sounded professional and quickly related to my situation. Once James was clear on my daughter's location, he exceeded my expectations by driving there to check on her and her car, which gave this fathers heart great relief. The car did need a tow but once it arrived at his shop James quickly assessed it and gave her a fair estimate on repairs. Within 24 hours I was notified the repairs were complete and they accept credit card payment over the phone. If you're looking for professionalism, fair pricing and quick turnaround I strongly recommend this shop.

I am here to assure those of you searching for a mechanic that this is where you should take your car! In the midst of arctic temperatures I couldn t get my car to start and had to have it towed. I was referred to James at the tuning spot. It ended up (simply put) just needing to warm up and thaw out. Even despite that, he inspected/tested to make sure there weren t any underlying issues (like the battery). When I came to pick it up, he was kind enough to spare me any charge and even took the time to patiently explain the issue to me (who doesn t have a knowledge of cars) and give me advice of how to prevent it happening again. I worry about being taken advantage of, as a 22 year old female who doesn't have much knowledge of cars, and I feel 100% confident that James will be honest and fair! Can t recommend him enough!

There isn t another shop in town with as friendly and knowledgeable staff.The Tuning Spot provides trustworthy and reputable service. Just went with a friend to have his car looked at. Friendly guys there tho. They looked at his car for FREE, diagnosed it, told him what it would cost. Not sure how it turned out, but I know he set the appointment. They must do good work because they were slammed and had to set his appt back.

Awesome place and gear mechanic. James is a great person whom really takes an interest in educated his customers and supplying them with buckets of help. James, the owner put a hitch on my car for over $100 less than Uhaul and did a great job! His shop is very welcoming to everyone and he goes out of the way to not make you feel dumb about cars. I really appreciate his help and attitude!

Perfect solution for being transparent and cost effective to the consumer during a repair or even as something as simple as an oil change. The Tuning Spot was very helpful during my visit and help guide me along the way during my vehicle maintenance. Definitely the spot to go if you feel like you could work on your own vehicle if you just had the right tools and equipment.

If you want your car repaired James (&/or assistants) this should be your place.There's people (a mixed bag" and then there are "good people". That is James McNamer and crew. Service so good (and reasonable) you'll want to tip! I did. A car repair place with integrity? Yes, it can happen. And happens here. James is a combination of being a great person and very bright car repairman - and like many of us a top car aficionado. If you get him talking on cars and types he'll likely know much more than you do about your fav.One of my favorite businesses I have found. Period.

Incredible owner!! James is very knowledgeable and always around to help. Every tool you could need, they have a few lifts and also garage space if a lift is not needed. Had an urgent issue mid road trip and this place was a life saver. Great place to do any DIY work!

The Tuning Spot is for vehicle owners who like to do their own work, but do not have the facility. Space is rented by the hour for most jobs. Cost for longer term projects can be negotiated. The shop has lifts, tools, and a professional technician on site. You can perform your own work or contract with the technician. Jobs range from simple tire rotations to complete engine replacement. If you do not have parts, a phone call can have them delivered. James, the owner, is easy going and good to work with. Recommend The Tuning Spot for do it yourself vehicle repair.

Going into any other auto shop as a young woman I am often taken advantage of by being overcharged. Not at the tuning spot. Every cost, every repair and every car part ordered is explained to me in full detail and I am always impressed with not only the service but the heart that goes into the experience. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Awesome experience. I hate doing auto maintenance in my apartment parking lot so to be able to rent a lift and a spot in a garage is great. I was able to change my front brakes, my alternator belt, my spark plugs, and do a full oil change in about an hour and a half. The tools I needed were waiting by the bay I rented and helpful advice was there anytime I had a question. This place really took the annoying parts out of auto maintenance.

I've had Stu look at my truck and my wife's car a couple times, and each time he is very thorough and takes the time to explain what is going on. Then he will either let me work on it, with some help, or I can pay him to take care of it. The DIY garage is a pretty cool concept for those of us who aren't gearheads.
