++UPDATED REVIEW AT BOTTOM++Put my wife and kids in an unsafe vehicle after failing to bleed the air out of the brakes TWICE!Let me be clear. These guys are super friendly. They also fixed my AC and replaced my ABS motor/pump and did a great job on all of that work. But putting an unsafe vehicle on the road is never acceptable. So, on Thursday (2024.04.04), they called me and said my van was ready for pickup. I went over, paid, got the keys, and immediately noticed the brakes were super spongy. The pedal wouldn't get hard after multiple pumps. I tried some emergency stops on an empty road, and I could only get it to lock up the tires and activate ABS after standing on the brake pedal as hard as I could. I was glad the ABS kicked in, but the spongy brake pedal indicates air in the lines significantly impacting braking performance.I drove back to the shop about 5 minutes after picking it up, went back inside, and kindly explained that the brakes were spongy and that this vehicle wasn't safe. The mechanic agreed with me, said they'd fix it at no cost, and was very apologetic. Kind though he was, you should NEVER put an unsafe vehicle on the road. I'm glad I was the one who picked it up instead of my wife and kids.On Friday at closing, they called me and said they'd re-bled the brakes and that the mechanic and the shop foreman drove it and confirmed it was good to go. I thanked them and agreed to have them lock it up in their lot, and I'd get it on Saturday when they were closed.I picked it up on Saturday, and wouldn't you know it? It's the same thing. The pedal was super soft. I did another emergency braking test, and this time, I couldn't activate the ABS. There was so little braking force that it couldn't lock up the tires to activate ABS. Again, this is wildly unsafe. I have no idea how a shop can have two people test a vehicle and knowingly put it out on the road with terribly soft brakes. This wasn't like, "oh, maybe it's not quite as good as it once was" this was like, "oh snap, I can't stop!" I figured this out by going about 40MPH and hitting the brakes definitely not rocket science. At this point, I was just fed up with it. I drove (slowly) to Walmart, bought a bunch of DOT-3 brake fluid, and went home and bled the brakes. A ton of air came out (see video), and no surprise, after I bled the brakes properly, everything worked great again. It wasn't a hard task, but it's a bummer that I paid them to bleed the brakes ($150) as a part of their ABS service, and they failed to do it properly two times in a row.More than the $150 or me having to redo their work, it's crazy that they gave me back an unsafe vehicle twice, knowing my wife and kids would get into it later. I'm just thankful I was in the van, who knew to test it to ensure everything was working. It scares me to think what might have happened if my wife had been driving it, and then a true emergency happened, and her and my children's lives counted on quality control at Midwest Auto Services.++++++++++++++++++Update (2024.04.10) after Jim's reply belowI think these are kind, friendly folks. They just stink at doing QA on a brake job... at least in my situation. Anyone can accidentally leave air in the brake lines especially on a vehicle that's 22ft long! The problem isn't that it happened, but that it wasn't caught and corrected before being handed over to the owner... twice. At the end of the day, the scan tools only test the actuation of the brakes. They were working, but just not with enough pressure. Scan tools often don't detect that. Likewise, running the ABS pump to cycle the fluid isn't a bad idea, but it can't replace actually testing the functionality afterwards by driving the vehicle and attempting to stop rapidly.I've driven the van 100+ miles since I bled the brakes and everything is working fine. The parts that were installed are good; just sloppy QA afterwards to catch the air in the lines. Don't blame the parts. Needed an inspection ASAP called several places that couldn t get me in for weeks they got me in same day within an hour of me calling. Every employee including the manager were very friendly honest and respectful. I failed my inspection due to an exhaust leak and they walked me through their garage and showed me the leak. I can definitely say these people are worth going to!

This shop is very Thorough and if they see something could be a problem they re gonna say something about it. They re very fair and honesty is there best policy. Hard to find a shop in Kansas City like this. If you re reading this now you have found the right place.

I was referred to this mechanic by a friend and I'm SO GLAD I was. They not only fixed my car correctly (and quickly), they also did it (and other work on the car) for $200 less than I was quoted at my past mechanic.Absolutely fantabulous and highly recommended!

I wouldn t trust these people with anything. I called them from seeing a review in the neighborhood app saying how nice they were, good Christians they were and will save you money. Not even close. I called them asking how much it would be to look at my vehicle and they said absolutely nothing. Ok great. Take it up there and they look at it and tell me what s wrong with it. They give me a quote of $730 so probably close to $750/$760 with tax. This was for a hair line crack on my oil pan. I tell them ok go ahead and work on it. I start to look up YouTube on how to fix it and it s super easy to do. Look up the parts to fix and at most around $250. I got mine for $90. I tell the guy that I can order it for $60 and he tells me absolutely not. Yes I can my man. I m literally looking at it lol. Don t tell me no. Then he says well if you want to get on your back and do it then have at it. It will be $45 to pick up. Ok why? Cause we did a diagnostic on it. You literally told me it was free to look at and now it s not? He says we had to lift it up and clean the oil off and it took however long. Ok? So I m confused why you said it was free to look at but now it s not. No thank you. I wouldn t trust these people at all. Then he has the nerve to say if you need anything in the future let me know. Ya. Right. I even asked the guy can you bring the price down at all cause I want to support you guys and he said absolutely not. Like wow. Your going to loose a customer cause you have your head so far up your you know what you won t even want to keep a customer. I d find someone else.

Always great customer service. I made the mistake once going somewhere else due to that place being a favorite to a close friend, and I ran back to Midwest. Fair in pricing. Straightforward.... honest.

I went in to have my brakes checked and the person answering the phone was extremely rude. Never told me I would be charged for an estimate. Women beware of being overcharged.

As honest as they come! Jim and his team inspected my car thoroughly and although they could have charged me a lot of money to fix what they saw on the surface (like other shops in the area already had), Jim actually told me that I should probably go car shopping! I had spent more than $1500 at two other shops in the past couple of months and I'm sure they would have nickel and dimed me for more. Not Jim! He lost a significant amount of money by recommending I shop for another vehicle. He earned my business from here out!!

I have had my vehicles serviced by Midwest for several years. Although Their location appears small, their abilities exceed the larger competitor's. I always schedule my work and I appreciate the expected quality work. From my experience with them, they are above the normal repair shops I have used before.

I have used Midwest on my Sons vehicles for several years. Jim and the staff are honest - do good work, only do what is needed , won t sell you on what you don t need , but will be honest about what should be done with vehicles. Jim came recommended to me by a trusted friend , who owns Porsche s is SUPER particular , and Jim s does his work. Anyway I never leave reviews but this business I can t say enough positive things about the company.Jim just did some work for us, called me and said good news - what we thought was occurring, wasn t actually happening, and thus we didn t need to do X work saving us $450 in work that I was prepared to spend. They are just honest people. We need more businesses and people like Jim and Midwest Auto.

The dealership I purchased my car from left out the IDOD from the paperwork. Midwest was able to get me an IDOD inspection when I walked in last minute. It took 10 minutes, which gave me enough time to return to the DMV, and able to get my vehicle titled. Really appreciate them.

Midwest auto is amazing! I was having an issue with my starter and they got it working for me right away. About a week after the starter replacement the new starter also had issues, I dropped it back off and they put the car through rigorous testing to see what was causing the issue and how to prevent it from happening again. They put in so much work for me and were friendly and supportive the whole time. I spoke mainly with Brian about the issue and he went above and beyond with customer service to make sure I was taken care of. Can't express how much I appreciated such quality service, will definitely be back if I need work done in the future. Thanks again!!Service: Electrical

These are high quality people. Honesty and thoughtfulness is a rare thing to come across in the auto repair business. I would recommend them regardless of how far you have to drive to get there.

I recently took my Jeep in for what I thought was a problem with either the starter or the alternator and knew that it would be expensive. After they diagnosed the issue, they found it was only a problem with the battery. They went above and beyond to contact the manufacturer, as they saw that it was still under warranty, got a replacement battery, and installed it at a very inexpensive cost. Their resolution also fixed a problem with aftermarket lights on the front of my Jeep that was already estimated to be over $500 to be rewired. Midwest Autos honest and impressive service has saved me nearly $1000 in expenses and I'm so appreciative for the quality service.Services: Auto engine diagnostic, Auto maintenance

I was going regularly for oil changes but when I had battery trouble they did see that the cable was not secure on there and only just tightened the nut on the cable. I also lost a nut lock that they possibly did not give back, it was no where to be in my Jeep. I will never be going back there.Services: Tires, Battery, Oil changeServices: Tires, Battery, Oil change

Very disappointed in this local shop! We took our vehicle in for a diagnostic. He says it needs all new spark plugs in a specific brand so we pay for that and pick the car up. Get home and it s worse than when we brought it in!!! We take it right back and get a call that it s something that has nothing to do with the issue. Then they say that must have been a mistake and finally say we broke the o2 sensor and it will be a few hundred more. Absolutely not. You clearly didn t diagnose it correctly the first time, didn t test drive afterwards and didn t even offer to reimburse anything. Waste of time and money. Not supposed to take your vehicle to a shop and come home with it worse than what it was!!!!

Jim and his staff are top notch. Not only did repairs cost less than half of what Landmark Dodge wanted to charge, the service was great. The people here are more about true good old fashion customer service than a buck. They kept me informed and provided options. I highly recommend them. For your next repair choose Midwest Auto Services tell them Pastor Andre sent you.

I have a Ford F-150 with a 5.4 3valve V8 Triton, or as mechanics call it, the worst engine ever made, not that I agree. When I bought this truck it had what we thought was a bad engine, so we replaced it at another place that is now out of business. So $8K later I have the same issues. Took it to Midwest and Jim worked on it and we did just about everything that truck needed and it ran like it was brand new. Just recently I had some front end work and now it drives like it did when it was new. 250k Miles on it. I've only had it for the last 50k miles and I think it will keep going another 250 thanks to Midwest Auto. These guys are a cut above the rest. Thanks go out to Certified Transmission for recommending them.Services: Electrical repair, Steering & suspension replacement, Electrical, Auto engine tuning

I'll start off by saying I never leave reviews. That's how good the service is at Midwest Auto Services. I come from a very small town, where small business owners are the friendliest, most accommodating people around. Needless to say, I was amazed at the great service I received here. I called Jim with a concern about my truck and he said they were booked solid for the next week. He then volunteered a few minutes of his time to drive my truck around and see what he could figure out. Jim knew right away what the problem was, and he and his staff had my truck fixed within 24 hours! The rate was more than reasonable and Midwest Auto Services has my business from now on. These guys are hard-working, trustworthy folks and their customer service can't be beat! Seriously, you won't be disappointed if you're looking for a quality shop. The crew at Midwest Auto Services impressed me on so many levels. Keep up the great work guys!

I've exclusively gone to Midwest for my car's maintenance and any repairs for the last (at least) 5 years. They've been really good to me and my family. They do quality work, they're affordable, and they do their best to accommodate. Jim and Brian are great and always trying to keep things running as smoothly as possible there at the shop. Highly recommend.

Very unprofessional. Hung up on me. Got upset that I chose to repair my own vehicle after diagnosis was done. I took it to them for the air conditioner. They told me my condenser low speed fan was not working. I opted to replace it my self. He also lied about price of parts to repair the fan. Told me after I replaced it if there was a problem to bring it back in and they would take the next steps in diagnosing and fixing the problem. After I returned with the car he said a fuse had blown and it was fixed. It wasn t 100% due to age and ware on the a/c compressor. But it was working properly. When I left it was still blowing warm when driving. The problem was never fixed nor did they drive it to see if it was still had the same issue. After I called back he then explain that the compressor would need to be replaced. When I asked why he never told me this to begin with? He told me it was Friday and didn t want to deal with it and hung up on me. There quality of work and customer service is well below par. I will never be returning to this shop and do not recommend that you go there for any reason. Do not waste your time and money. I would leave a zero star review if I could.Service: Air conditioning

I was a mess when my car started heavily smoking. I had my car towed to a repair shop that did engine repair, only to be told that I would need a new engine and that they don't work on European cars. I found midwest auto services on Google. They had great reviews and they are very knowledgeable with European vehicles. I told them I was advised I would need a new engine from the other shop and they started looking for it. Once they got the car in and checked it out, Brian called me with the best news ever. I did not need a new engine, but a new turbo (which is tremendously less cost wise). He was honest with me and so knowledgeable. He explained how the turbo works and how the oil leaked from the engine to the exhaust system. They were very fast with the repairs and had me back on the road within a week and a half. I also did my own research and paid about 500.00 less than the average cost of turbo repairs. I would highly recommend them to everyone. Great customer service and very thorough, quality work. I will continue taking my business there. You guys are Amazing . Services: Exhaust, Auto engine diagnostic, Engine repair, Oil change

I took my car here because it kept dying on me. They told me it was because I had the wrong battery. I changed the battery hoping they were correct and literally the next day after picking up my car it died again. I paid almost $200 for absolutely nothing. The guy who was helping me lied to me and then turned around and told my step dad something different. I had to get him involved to get my car ABLE TO DRIVE because they refused to put thr battery back in my car. I took my car to Ford and they found the issue immediately with no charge.

These guys are awesome. They are professional to the core, and their work is great. Yeah sometimes you get bad news: I blew a head gasket, and no one wants to hear that! However, I know I can trust these men. They have integrity that is not always found in this profession, and it wasn't their fault my car needed an expensive repair. They were very accommodating to our schedule: we had a family road trip coming up and needed our car back fast. They were able to repair it and get it back to us before we had to go on our trip. We always receive clear explanation of work, and they have good estimates before the work is started. They are knowledgeable enough to explain problems even to me (a non-car guy) and my wife never feels talked down to like she has at some other places.Their workmanship is quality, and they work with customer satisfaction in mind. The last visit I dropped off the car and they fell behind. Realizing they couldn't complete the repair if they started so late and knowing I wanted it back that day, they owned their mistake and called to apologize and reschedule. Just an all around great shop! I recommend it to anyone looking for a Mechanic in the area.
