What a fantastic hotel! The room was just perfect with the balcony overlooking Lake Superior. Incredible location right off the highway, so it was easy access to everything the North Shore has to offer. The lady working the front desk was super cool too! My husband and I look forward to staying here again this coming summer!Nearby activities: Close to multiple state parks.

We love this property. The deck for every room is right ON Lake Superior -- it's easy to hear the waves crash! The room itself is very comfortable with all the basics. The bed was comfortable and there were plenty of pillows. They also have comfortable chairs now (they used to have chairs that were made out of logs and had no padding).

We had a wonderful weekend stay at The Cliff Dweller Hotel. Located right off the highway it was easy to find. Our room (201) was exactly as the website pictured. Our views of Lake Superior were breathtaking. The room was quiet and very comfortable. My favorite part is the friendly staff. Kari at the front desk went above and beyond for us. We arrived very late and she allowed for a contactless check-in. The next morning she greeted me by my name even though we had never met. She answered questions and gave suggestions about the area that we greatly appreciated. The light breakfast and coffee in the sun room was nice as were the board games for our use. I would 100% stay here again and look forward to a visit this summer. Excellent location to Lutsen for Skiing and hiking tails nearby.

We had a wonderful stay! King room on second floor. It was so nice having a balcony overlooking the lake. We left the door open at night and listened to the waves crashing on the shore. We only have one suggestion: it would be nice to have coffee available earlier than 8am. For us early risers sitting out on the balcony watching the sunrise, fishing early on the nearby lakes, going for early morning drives to look for moose early coffee would be great. Either a small coffee maker in the rooms, or an automatic single cup machine available in the Sunroom 24 hours (or at 6am).Otherwise, everything else was wonderful!! Looking forward to next year! Thank you!

This is a beautiful location and updated, clean rooms! 4 stars for the rooms, as the shower head is old, loud, and low pressure, but it is made up for with the spacious, balcony view room, comfy king size bed, storage room (dresser, 2 end tables, small table), parking is convenient. The balcony is fenced off per room but open to the rest of the floor, so not a lot of privacy, but it was the least of our concern. Staff was accommodating, friendly, and professional. Location is perfect to go further up or down the coast for day trips while having a middle ground to stay. If you visit cascade pub and restaurant (highly recommended) you get a discount for staying at this hotel. Main lobby has a large sun room with a beautiful quiet area to watch the water. Superior was very quiet during our stay but could still hear the waves up against the rocks from our balcony. We will definitely stay here again when we come back up here!Nearby activities: Grand portage High Falls, Temperence State Park, Palisade Head, Black Beach, Sawtooth outfitters (kayak, canoe, bike, etc rental place) and much more!

The room was very clean and comfortable. Had our own deck, even with it being a bit chilly, sat out on it during the afternoon and enjoyed the lake being right there. Chatted with the main staff member who was wonderful and it was obvious she took great pride in how things are run at the hotel. Would definitely stay again when in the area. So conveniently located to Lutsen and all the other beautiful attractions along the shore.

Just can't get any better than a hotel right on the cliffs overlooking Lake Superior with a view of the lake from the balcony of your room, not to mention the relaxing sound of the waves! Almost didn't want to write review for selfish reasons. When others find this gem it may become harder to book a room! Clean, charming rooms with the basics and up-north decor. Great location on the Gitchi Gami State Trail within easy driving distance between the northern sights of Lutsen and Grand Marais and the south to Two Harbors. Owners/managers were awesome! They really are invested in their guests' having the best experience. Gave us directions to a little unofficial trail to the shore where we were able to see the full moon rise ever the lake! Absolutely will come back.

Hidden gem of a hotel. We were on the North Shore to look for moose. The number one thing we wanted was a comfortable sleeping situation and a cool vibe. Cliff Dweller has fantastic beds. An actual king sized bed in our room!! So many hotels do smaller kings. The bathtub is long comfy for taller folk. The bathroom lights are harsh and the fan is loud BUT the natural light makes the bathroom lights unnecessary for most things. The bed lamps are fantastic. And the view from every room is of the lake. The balconies are nice with plastic but durable/ sturdy chairs. Extra blankets to use watching the sun rise would be pretty cool but bundling up is a good choice too. I would definitely try to stay here to watch the lake during winter or a storm.

Loved the view from the balconyNearby activities: Close to many waterfalls and state parks. Can walk to a falls just northeast and across the street at the rest area. Will be more visible after the leaves fall

We were originally going to camp in our travel trailer, however we had winterized it and did not want to do that again so we went searching for a place to stay. Angelia was a fantastic hostess, she even called to offer to move us from a king bed room to a double bed room if the view was important to us. We had a phenomenal view right on Lake Superior so giving up the king bed was well worth it. The room was extremely clean and they even provide an extra towel to wipe off balcony chairs if you chose to sit outside (brrrrr) and an actual hamper for used towels. It is an old school type motel/hotel but it is a true gem and so is Angelia!

I'm giving this a 5 star, for a 2 star hotel. No this is not a 3, 4, or 5 star hotel, and that's ok. The low prices reflect this. But it's warm in the winter and comfortable, has a fantastic view of the lake, super easy to find and access your room, and the owner is very friendly and accommodative. If you're skiing at Lutsen or on vacation where you're primarily out and about all day, all you really need is a comfy bed and a warm room, and the Cliff Dweller offers this and more. Would definitely stay again.

Todd & Michelle are extremely friendly & warm hosts. The motel is incredibly clean & safe with contact-less check-in. We ve visited twice now with more to come. They are located close to many North Shore adventures & the staff is very helpful & friendly. We love this place & are sure you will also. The rooms are clean & comfy & all face right onto the lake. Excellent value as well. Thanks Cliff Dweller for a wonderful week.
