This hotel is the best deal I ve found in the Northfield/St. Olaf area.Pros: on-site parking was abundant, staff was polite, check-in was fast, the room was surprisingly clean for a 2.5 star hotel including sheets and towels, the bed was more comfortable than the bed in the Hilton property I paid twice as much to stay at in nearby Lakeville, it was dead silent at night, the hotel is super close to St. Olaf, I m a single gal and I didn t feel unsafe there by myself, there are tons of businesses nearby (including food), good water pressure in the shower.Cons: the power button was missing from the air conditioner so I could not adjust the temp in the room (room 115), the refrigerator was abnormally loud when it ran and smelled bad (I unplugged it and boom, no more problem). This place isn t the newest, cleanest hotel you ll stay in but it is definitely the best bang for my buck I ve found around St. Olaf so far.

I rarely like to leave bad reviews but I feel it is important for others to know what to expect. The front desk staff were friendly and prompt but aside from that it is a sub par hotel. The carpet was so wet we couldn t take our shoes off. Room felt moist and mildew build up was in bathroom. Only one working outlet. Bathroom door had water damage and bowed so couldn t be closed all the way.

The rooms here are spacious, comfortable, clean, and quiet. However the service from the staff is where this place really shines. The staff is always willing to help with anything you need at the press of a button if their ever away from the first desk. I've loved my stay and would absolutely refer my friends and family here.Rooms: Huge rooms, very clean.Nearby activities: Bowling alley on one side and a diner on the other.Safety: I've felt very safe while staying here.Noteworthy details: The best staff.

PERFECT!!Very pleasant stay! The staff were incredibly friendly & accommodating, the room was clean, there is a Perkins nearby which is a bonus! The rates are very good compared to most hotels nearby. Would 10/10 recommend to anyone looking for a place to stay in this area!

This was not a good experience. The entire first floor, and part of the second floor, including our room, smelled like a car air freshener. We killed six flies in the first 5 minutes in the room, and after leaving for dinner for an hour, we were greeted by four more flies in our room. Then several more the next day..... The carpet was gritty and visibly dirty, and there were sticky stains on the nightstand and desk. The fan in the bathroom sounded like a Harley. There were holes around the faucet, which was loose in its mount. The bathroom floor seemed to have ground in dirt on it.. The room we had was just not clean. The parking lot is well lit and the rooms are decent sized. The limited staff present were pretty nice. The beds were reasonably comfortable. There are no 4 or 5 star hotels in Northfield, but there are considerably better places to stay than here. We switched hotels as soon as a room became available elsewhere. We will not be returning. In approximately 500+ reviews, and 5+ years of travels and reviews, I think only two places have earned a 1 star review. This one was well earned, unfortunately.

Perspective is everything. After an unfortunate experience of going to a different hotel in another town where we were shown very little hospitality, given a room that smelled of urine, which we turned down, and then another room that smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, which we also turned down, we decided to come to Northfield a day early to this hotel. We called ahead, hoping there was a chance we could extend our reservation by a day, and even come early, and not only were we shown gracious understanding and hospitality, we were also offered an upgrade to a larger room with a jacuzzi. Such a welcome compared to what we had just experienced! The hotel had recently been updated, had delightful paint colors and new carpeting, and the staff was a joy. There were just a few things that would have improved the experience, such as art on the walls, and more attention to details when it comes to cleanliness.Overall a wonderful experience thanks to the extremely accommodating and kind staff.

Where to start? The website said they had a breakfast buffet. Soon as I walk in I see a sign that says they don't have ANY breakfast. No muffins, no nothing. And the the first morning they didn't even have cups out for juice or coffee. The hotel is full of cigarette smoke. Disgusting. The bed is ROCK hard and easily the most uncomfortable bed at any hotel I've ever encountered. My AC unit is crazy loud and sounds like it has rocks bouncing around inside of it. The towel quality is on par with the cheapest ones Walmart sells. The carpet is dirty, the AC is plugged in with a giant extension cable going across the ground. The other hotel nearby is constantly booked so I may have to relocate to a nearby town.

I normally don't complain but there were some things that happened during my stay that just didn't sit right with me. Online, this hotel advertises that they have breakfast. Nope! No pool or hottub! Looks like they have one but it is not operational. Shortly after I checked in, I heard my door open! I have no idea how or why someone was coming into my room! I opened the door and asked what was going on and a man said he was there to check out water damage around the window! I said, this doesn't happen when a room is rented out for the night. No knock or announcement that he was even coming in. The towels looked and felt like they hadn't been washed and there was hairs all over the hair dryer when I went to use it. It looked like someone shaved or cut their hair and it was all over the dryer! So disgusting. The carpeting looked like it hadn't been vacuumed. The staff all seemed very nice but I was completely disgusted with my stay.

Honestly wish I could give no stars We checked into the room and it smells weird, it looks like they re trying to fix it up but it doesn t look like it was done professionally at all, there s just a random chair right in front of one of the end tables and there s barely any room in here for a chair in the first place. It s not clean, there s some weird pizza sause stain on the bathroom door, snot in the bathroom next to the tissues, and the whole place just seems sketchy in general. Too scared to check under the sheets to see how bad the bed looks. Wouldn t be surprised if they didn t clean the sheets after the last people were in here. Also, no pool

Management is terrible !!!!!!! You might get a towel but you will also get lied to about what your being charged , hidden fees , if you pay for 7 day stay they expect you out the 6th morning .Manager agreed on one price to change it multiple times and put us to a point where we either paid the new price or left immediately no exceptions, Be fair to your clientele or don t have clientele. HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO NOT STAY HERE .

You get what you pay for. The bathroom floor felt gritty on bare feet so I lay down towels. The run took f-o-r-e-v-e-r to drain after a shower. The shower head is in bad need of replacement. Bath ceiling needs repair. I could hear the people in adjoining room as if they were in my room. Noise level was high. No breakfast. Coffee was available. And the king size bed was comfortable and the tv worked.Oh - there was a bread bag and 3 pcs of bread left in the fridge from last user.

I stayed here for a week and I thought it was excellent. I found the room to be clean and nice, and the bed had very good king-sized mattress. I worked here during the daytime for a whole week, visited friends and relatives at night. I often went to the Perkins restaurant right across the street. Coratel is perfect for an extended stay !!

Great place to stay. It's inexpensive but still really nice. They are remodeling but doing a great job at keeping it clean. The beds are being replaced and the TVs are getting upgraded too! The AC works well and the AC works well and I thought the blankets were soft.

Great place to stay. I stayed her for a few weeks when I moved to Northfield for my new job and waiting for my apartment to be ready. Clean, convenient, accommodating staff and all around good deal for the price. I also had an upgrade to a king suite for the price of a single, because when I arrived for my reservation they were out of single rooms. Great place to stay for short or long term.

We were in Northfield for Carleton College graduation. The hotel we had originally booked on the main town street burned to the ground and we didn't know until a week before graduation. We were so relieved to get a room at Coratel. Very easy check-in, air conditioning was superb and very welcome, room was very clean, especially the bathroom, loads of hot water and great shower pressure. Our room was plenty big for the four of us and a Perkins restaurant / bakery is right next door and open for business. Front desk staff was friendly, professional and very hard working.

It was a little run-down, the room was kind of dusty, the sink drain was an odd design, and the advertised breakfast wasn't offered. They were evidently in the process of some sort of renovation so perhaps that will improve things. They should also improve the key cards, which kept malfunctioning and kept us locked out of our own room!!

Pleasant staff checked us and the Room left a bit to be desired. Lots of toenails on the floor next to the bed. The pillows on the bed all had stains on the cases looked like brush makeup and I'm not sure what else I very much question if the bed was actually made with clean sheets or not. As they say you get what you pay for. with tax a single bed Room was $60 for 1 night. If you don't mind toenails and dirty sheets this place is for you.

Management very inexperienced....stiff, rehearsed, creepy atmosphere, gaudy euro decor, no one at front desk most nights and half the days...prices vary from phone call quote to walk in quote, both different than website....needs structure desperately....overall look of hotel from outside first impression has improved and looks somewhat cleaner. Large lighted signs outside do look much better and more eye-catching than previous names/ chains/owners. Check ins should not hear price quotes/or totals of other customers. Security building would feel more secure if live person was available immediately to handle door traffic...lobby literally looks deserted at night...not welcoming for walk ins....gives the appearance of closed? Booked? Customers not sure..... hotel clerks should do walk thru hallway checks on overnite at least twice....very standard procedure for basic hotels

Can't recommend this place unless price is a very important factor. The whole place, from the front door to the room, has, slight but distinctly unpleasant smell. The shower is the pits, with very unstable water temperature like we used to get in the 80s with lousy plumbing systems. It is reasonably quiet though, gotta give it that. Breakfast is minimal, but serviceable for a simple motel. No coffee maker in the room, however.

The rooms were ok. There is a fridge and microwave. Before we left I checked the website and it said breakfast was served, when we got to the hotel a hand written note saying due to covid there was no breakfast. There isn't even a place to eat/serve breakfast. There is no pool they use it for storage. The side doors the the hotel are always opened/unlocked. While we were there the water was turned off due to a clog and they didn't bother letting the guest know. I'm pretty sure that there is permanant residents on the first floor and the second floor is for guest. They also don't have an elevator. A guest we were staying with left due to possible bed bugs. Our room was ok.It was a great location around a lot but definitely not what the pictures or website says.

We checked in...no elevator. Got into the room, and a little while later, management just opened the door. They claimed that nobody was staying in the room; despite the fact that they had given us a key to the room.Wouldn't stay here again.

Very dirty and run down the tub was very very dirty no heat in first room had to use a space heater amd second room had no hot water and dirty bedding they had very disruptive guests but managment fixed the issues right away they are in middle of updating hotel maybe when all is updated and working properly it might be a nice place but I would not take my children to this motel its an absolute last resort hotel at the moment. But managment was very very nice and great hospitality no breakfast offered but its a place to lay your head and sleep.

When we arrived, the front desk personnel was very friendly and let us check in early. When we opened our room, all we could smell is AIR Wick fresheners. There were 3 air fresheners placed around the tiny room! Makes me wonder what smell they are trying to cover up. The air fresheners were giving me a headache so I put them all in a drawer. The room was very small consisting of a queen size bed, a lazyboy from the 90's, a small table, and a 30" TV. The bed was very hard. The walls had a lot of holes patched up. As far as amenities go, they only give you hand soap and shampoo! I went to the front desk to ask for conditioner and they gave me a dirty bottle that said "treasure island casino" on it. I would not recommend staying here.

AWFUL! Believe ALL the worst reviews. Was visiting my son at St. Olaf during Family Weekend. As an aside, he s a FY student, so I did not know to book a room in the area well in advance. After my experience at America s Best Value, I ll be staying elsewhere next year. Arrived after dark at 9pm. Parking lot was not lit. Concrete in lot was crumbling. First impression was Baghdad after Shock & Awe! When we entered the lobby, we found the front desk deserted. The only hotel worker on duty appeared to be the desk clerk who was dragging a very large bag of garbage down the hall. We asked to see our room before paying $317 in advance for two nights. We were led up the stairs to the second floor. Hall carpet was dirty. There was a very distinct and unpleasant odor. Mold? Mildew? Must? I inquired about the existence of an elevator for my 79 yr old father who was waiting in the car. No elevator! Next we were shown a first floor room which we eventually took, because all other hotels were booked solid. While I waited at the front desk, I observed several guests come to inquire after an ice bucket, plastic drinking cups, etc. The rooms were not well-stocked. I had to ask for toilet paper and Kleenex and was informed by the desk clerk that they were out of Kleenex at the moment. I could go on, but do I really need to?! Do anything to avoid staying here. Pitch a tent. Sleep in your car. Mattresses are uncomfortable, carpet smells moldy, amenities are non-existent. Oh, and a note taped behind the counter, but in full view of guests checking in, read, Attention ALL desk clerks and hotel workers: Food in the breakfast room is for guests only! Any questions?? This says it all. A very low budget operation! Stay away! P.S. Its true! Outside doors are not locked for purposes of security.
