We came here when Brian had Clyde s and we were concerned what would happen to our neighborhood mechanic. No worries. Jose was able to get us in same day and handled our repair quickly. I was out within an hour and happy as can be. So glad to have our neighborhood mechanic back.

Okay, these guys were nothing short of amazing. I took my car to a dealership initially and was appalled by the estimate and the wait time. At Vidal, my car was fixed overnight for a fraction of the price. And it runs like a charm. Plus, Guillermo the dog. Love this place.Services: Electrical repair, Auto exhaust system repair, General repairs & maintenance, Auto engine diagnosticServices: Electrical repair, Auto exhaust system repair, General repairs & maintenance, Auto engine diagnostic

They made a customer for life. It s so important (and a great relief) to find a mechanic you feel you can trust. Isaac is the one I dealt with and he was so nice and so helpful. Even if I didn t live nearby, I d still choose Vidal Auto for my future car care needs.Service: TiresService: Tires

I had been going to Clyde's since I moved here in 2016. It wasn't until the pandemic when I went in to get my tires checked that I had an issue with this business. Clyde's will do small things for free if you are a regular customer, which I really appreciated. He checked my tires and then took me around to show me something to do with my rims being dented really badly. I couldn't tell anything was wrong and told him that, but he continued to "show" me how it was wobbly. Over the years, I hadn't hidden the fact that I know very little about cars and was just trusting him. After showing me this rim issue that I didn't fully understand nor see, he gave me possible estimates upwards of $1200. I was confused, because I had hardly driven since the pandemic lockdown and thought it odd he would say something extreme happened to the rim. Later, I took my car in for a recall repair at Toyota and the staff there informed me that my alignment was off and they could fix it for $130. I asked if there was anything else wrong, like the rims and they said no, just the alignment. Later, I took my car to another mechanic for an oil change and asked the same thing and he also said no. I was hesitant to write this, because I have always thought of this business in a pretty good light. Like they a really act like they are trying to take care of you. I don't know if times got hard during the lockdown and there were less repairs and less driving and the owner was desperate, but I no longer feel I can trust this place at all. Times are tough and no one should be scammed out of money. Maybe there is some sort of an explanation for this but for me, I am staying far away from this place from now on.Services: Tires, General repairs & maintenance

Good people make this world tolerable and the people at Clyde's are good people! I drove to MN from AZ and the cold did a number on my tire pressure. I'm no car guy and they helped me with everything. Thank you so much!

Great shop, it is one of our regular places to go. Was most impressed by their diagnosing a sputter in our car. It would drive fine cruising at highway speed but would sputter on acceleration. Tom tracked it down to a fuel pump wire whose insulation had been stripped due to its being in contact with the shifter. Acceleration would shift the weight and tension the wire just enough to bring it into contact with the shifter, creating a short. Poor manufacturer design but they fixed it! No problems since.

Clyde's service is absolutely fantastic! Brian is a stand up guy, who is honest and fair. He and Tom are very thorough. They care about safety first and foremost, over money, and it shows in their detailed estimate reports. I have NEVER felt pressured by them. They always greet their customers with a smile and seem to genuinely care about the people who come into their shop. I could talk to Brian about life for hours, let alone cars! I can't say enough positive things about these guys. They are topnotch in every aspect, including cost, repair, and customer service. They will go over all your options and are upfront about pricing while explaining estimates. They will not perform any repairs unless you okay it. Clyde's also provide loaners, which is incredibly helpful and rare nowadays. But most of all, Brian and Tom are great men who treat customers with the upmost dignity and respect. They will go above and beyond when helping you with any car issue. They are the epitome of what makes a local business great, and they operate with integrity and professionalism that is not always prevalent in the auto repair industry. Clyde's is far and away the best! A true treasure right in South Minneapolis. I promise they will not disappoint.

Saved my life! About a year ago, Brian recommended that I replace the bolts on my wheels because they were rusty and difficult to get off. Today, I got a flat tire on the freeway on the road to Duluth when it was 17 degrees outside. I was so happy when those bolts came right off and we could put the spare on! Thank you to Clyde's for a recommendation that was so worth it.

I had to give a rating to leave this comment, so I chose a neutral 4.0My comment is a critique of Google Maps that left the old comments up when the shop changed hands and is operated by a completely new team. Brian retired, and Tom works elsewhere, as I heard when I called today: I wish the new owners the best and that all old comments disappear.

The only reason I chose Clyde's was because it was within walking distance and we needed to get a set of new tires mounted and balanced. That's literally all we needed to do. Mount and balance a set of tires.Called Clyde's, spoke with the owner I presume, and he proceeded to tell me the story of Clyde's and how it's a family owned business, etc etc. Great, sounds like a good place. Ok if bring my own tires since I've already ordered them and they've been delivered? Sure. Schedule the appointment, but owner informs me that he'll be out of the shop due to surgery. This was the beginning of a spiral of what I can only describe as some of the worst customer service I've ever encountered in the auto service industry (and I've seen a LOT).First, when we dropped the car off we were told by Tom, that they don't normally take tires that they didn't order, but that since the "boss" ok'd it he'd do it. Ok, first point, maybe just take the tires with a smile and say you'll mount them.Second, I get a call from Tom stating that two of the wheels have bends in them and that he won't be able to mount the tires. He then proceeds to tell me that he can order OE replacements for ~$400 per wheel for refurbished. So what should have been a $120 tire mount/balance has suddenly become a potentially $1000 visit - this IS the reason why people hate going to auto repair places, because all of a sudden you're faced with this situation where you think the only option is I have to buy new wheels for $400/wheel.First, had I been any smarter I would have simply gone over told him to mount and install the tire that was removed, paid him for his time, and left to have another place just do what I asked...mount and balance the new tires. In fact our neighbor had the exact same experience with this shop, and he insisted they just do what he asked. Unfortunately I didn't get the memo until after.I spent some time looking for replacement wheels which I found for, you guessed it, $400. 4 brand new aftermarket alloy wheels, shipped, for $400. In that time the shop apparently got super busy and they wouldn't be able to get to mounting the 1 tire they had removed and installing the wheels again for what turned out to be a little over a week. Eventually when they did get the car back together when the lugs were being tightened I was told that one of the studs was slightly damaged, note that this was on the rear passenger's side. So after them having the car for almost 2 weeks I paid them $120 for essentially doing nothing. Finally, I was able to get the car back, new tires and wheels in tow I went to Discount Tire. While there I discovered 2 things. 1: the old wheels - according to Discount Tire - while not exactly true were fine for mounting and could be balanced and 2: one of the studs was damaged beyond the point in which they could repair, the stud was on the rear driver's side. They told me to go to the last place that worked on the wheels and demand they repair and pay for the damage....oh great. This time my SO decided to walk down and complain about this in person. Yelling match ensues, denials, hurt feelings, etc. Long story short, I would never take my car nor would I recommend any of my friends/family take their car to this shop. It would have been one thing to simply have said I needed wheels replaced or a hey I can mount them but you'll have to sign a waiver, but the absolute lack of customer service skill by Tom and the run around and the denial about the stud damage really took this experience over the top. Who knows, maybe you have to be a regular or a buddy to get good, honest service. Now I drive out of my way (20 minutes) to take my cars to Stellar Autoworks. Tim is extremely honest, they're very transparent about prices, and provide options for any service work.I wish I could support the local business, but in this case I just cannot.

This shop should be ashamed of themselves. Refusing to put air into a flat tire of a mother with her infant child in the middle of winter, or help mount a spare. I've lived in the neighborhood for 20 years and as a mechanic myself I would never treat members of my community in such a disrespectful way regardless of how "busy" I might be. Save yourself the trouble, galeenas down the street did it instead. I suggest you find somewhere else if you want to be treated with respect.

$$$$$. Unnecessarily replaced a perfectly good part on my car and way overcharged on the labor. His markup on parts is as much as 10 times what you could buy yourself at a NAPA parts store. Demeanor is kind, but he tends to mansplane and dramatize how hard the repair was in order to justify his charges. Have been a customer for 5 years, but I cannot afford to go back to this establishment.

Incredible customer service. Feels like small town place and I got a brief history lesson about the area where I work too. No frills, no trying to upsell, fixed only what was broken. We will be back for sure.
