Zach, at Universal Engine Repair is the best! Not only did Zach get my vehicle back to me in a really quick time frame because I needed it for filming he also saved me a ton of money from the original estimate. A work colleague recommended Zac and Universal Engine Repair. Zac was responsive and available from the first time I spoke with him on the phone. I brought my car in the very next morning and Zac replaced my water pump, serpentine belt, and thermostat. I was quite satisfied with Zac's work and professionalism. Definitely recommend!!

He serviced our 1995 vette. Engine had fuel in it. Totally dead 6+ contacts didn't want to deal with it,or just incompetence. Last place messed it up. We thought the engine may need to be replaced Universal, solved the issue in a day. Best vehicle repair and cost experience by far.

I love this place. Zac fixed my brakes which has been broken at another shop. Then just on his own he evened out my tire pressure and made my car run smoothly, all for a reasonable price. Zac has been nothing short of amazing. He's worked on multiple cars for my wife and me, and each time has been flawless. Timing and pricing are clearly explained up front, and any issues/changes are quickly and clearly communicated. I called around and Zac's shop was the only place willing to bid on an engine swap for my civic. He gave me the options and I chose to supply a used JDM engine I bought off the internet. It took a couple weeks to get onto his schedule and there was some complications related to the engine that I supplied (cam seal leaking oil) but Zac got my old car back on the road. I was impressed with Zac's willingness to share his experiences and his time - I know he is a busy guy. Bottom line - he did a good job and the price was right, too!Service: Engine repair

I had major engine work done here, replaced timing chain and all associated components on my truck. The work seems to have been effective, and about $1800 less than Ford wanted. Zac used all ford parts. I'm satisfied. I have recommended his shop to others.

Seriously the best. Where can you go and get excellent, trust-worthy, readonable and thorough auto repair performed in Washtenaw County? No whete but Universal Engine Repair. Thank you again Zach. No one else could figure it out.

Zac does good work. He checks your vehicle on site so he can make an accurate diagnosis. He then does the repair work at a very reasonable price. Very honest and customer focused. Would recommend to others.

Just picked up my car from the shop, and I must say that this has been by far the best auto repair/mechanic experience I've ever had. Not only did Zac complete several complex repairs quickly and efficiently, but he gave me the best quote in town, worked with me to give me a discount, and replaced my tail light bulb and did a couple of other minor repairs for free. He also stayed late to give us the car- well after closing, and then took his time to explain/show us the work. If you're looking for an efficient, fair-priced, and honest mechanic, Zac is your guy.

Last fall I submerged my Bronco's engine/intake, and the engine was trashed by the dirt it managed to pull into the crankcase. Upon calling around to different local shops, I had a good conversation with Zac, and had it towed to Universal Engine Repair. Zac found a quality re-manufactured engine for a good price and swapped out the engine. During that time I received updates and didn't feel like I was bothering anyone when I called with questions (which were answered in detail). All of this for an affordable price. I've put about 2,000 miles on the new engine so far and have had no issues. No leaks, no stalls, good oil pressure, regular idle, etc. Just recently, I drove a 400 mile round trip with no problems. I had a great experience with Zac and his team- would highly recommend.Service: Engine repair

Just when you thought there weren't any honest mechanics out there! Zac quickly diagnosed the problem and ordered the needed part. Once the part came in he fixed everything in less than 30 minutes. Pricing was fair and the service was friendly. Would recommend this shop to anyone needing any car repairs done at an affordable price.

Zac has always gone above and beyond to fit me in, honestly assess my vehicles (never recommends repairs that aren't necessary!), and always does it with a smile. His prices are always considerably better than the other shops in the area and after working with him for years I would never go anywhere else. This is the ONLY shop I recommend to friends and family.

The most honest and efficient mechanic I've ever had the pleasure of doing business with. Zac performs repairs quickly and can explain everything that he's doing and why in great detail. He's polite, personable, and true to his word. I won't take my car anywhere else.

Initially, I went here just because they were the only mechanic I could find that would test drive my car free of charge. After my experience, I won t go anywhere else. If you want a mechanic that is affordable, trustworthy, and knowledgeable this is the place to go.Zac has gone above and beyond helping me. When my engine caught fire he towed my car for a very good price and got me more money back from the scrap yard for it than I thought was possible. He even saved stuff under the seats I accidentally left behind AND looked at two vehicles for me before I decided on my next purchase.Not to mention, as a woman I have had numerous bad experiences when dealing with mechanics, but Zac always listens to my concerns and is professional and respectful. I can t express enough how refreshing that is.I send everyone I know to Universal Engine Repair when they need help with their car. My only regret is not leaving a review sooner, because they deserve it.

Once you've taken your vehicle here, you won't want another mechanic near your car. Not only will Zac take time to diagnose your issue, but he'll explain exactly what's wrong, teach you about your car, and perform repairs quickly and affordably. The best thing about this shop is honesty - you don't have to worry about being quoted for unnecessary work. Chances are you're researching shops because you need work done, so give Zac a call.

Only minor complaint is it took longer than expected. But they were hunting down a bolt for my old car that ford stopped manufacturing. Besides that this place is solid. Fair pricing. Didn't feel like I was being ripped off like I usually do when I go to a mechanic. Buddy of mine recommended me and I am not dissapointed.

I needed a small repair quickly - a rear view mirror assembly had been broken. Universal was able to locate a used part for me and get the job done fast and still cost less than half of my previous mechanic! Repair work is done great, pricing was fair, and staff was friendly and helpful

Just sold a car that had an engine swap done at this shop. The person who purchased the vehicle is a lifelong mechanic. After going through the car the gentlemen who purchased it discovered many, many issues with the work done by this shop. Biggest issue was the mechanics bypassing the FITV causing extremely rough starts and stalls once the cold weather hit ultimately leading to me selling the vehicle. This was a very simple gasket that would ve taken 10 minutes to do properly and not cause the trouble it had. The mechanics installed my flywheel to my clutch kit backwards and blamed me for purchasing the wrong flywheel when in fact he had just attempted installing it improperly. I could go on but no point. After selling this vehicle to a reputable mechanic I realized Universal Engine Repair essentially took on this job without nearly enough knowledge to complete it properly. Would recommend this shop for oil changes etc but take your vehicle elsewhere for major repairs. You get what you pay for.

This shop is our family mechanic for a while now, for all our vehicles and engines - Dodge Ram, a Mustang convertible, an older Porsche , a delicate 1989 celebrity mercruiser inboard boat and chainsaws, lawn trimmers, etc. - truly universal repair. Zac (the owner) & team is obviously very well educated on engine, body work and boats, on a higher level and curiousity than I experienced from other shops around - explains , diagnoses and detects everything very well, and gets all of them fixed in great quality - incl. import (german) vehicles which many other mechanics around won t even touch. Since I also had experiences from quite some other shops around Ann Arbor/Ypsi area, I think I can state this place is unbeatable in terms of friendly, on-time, direct communication service and great price/quality ratio - highly recommended!

Knows what he's doing and is great at answering questions and making sure i understood what needed to be done to my car. He's the only person I'll let touch my car. He's fast, not expensive, and honest.

Fast, cheap, and effective. I've used this place multiple times and it has gotten to the point that I just refer to UER as "The Car Wizard". There's no better value for your money, and if it can't be fixed here, it can't be fixed anywhere.

Honest work! I had to have a major repair done on my car (timing chain replacement) he kept to the estimate. I highly recommend!
