We spent 2 nights in the Captains Quarters room. The room was adorable and the bathroom was newly remodeled with a lovely shower. It has a little balcony with a seating area. The breakfasts were delicious with plenty of coffee available. Warm blueberry cobbler, pumpkin muffins and breakfast burrito on Saturday morning. Fresh fruit, lemon crumb muffins and pumpkin waffles with bacon on Sunday. The staff at the Inn were wonderful as well.Safety: Quiet little neighborhood.Food & drinks: Wonderful breakfasts.Noteworthy details: So close to the beach. A moments walk away.

A few weeks ago my son got married at our Union Pier home. All of our guests stayed at the Inn and had a lovely visit. The location was fabulous - just a block to the lake where they watched sunsets at night and strolled on the beach during the day. The Inn served a tasty breakfast in the morning that everyone enjoyed. I highly recommend this gem to adults desiring a relaxing weekend just 1 and 1/2 hour drive from Chicago.

Loved the vibe. Staff is so friendly & helpful, and their hot, made-to-order breakfast was delicious! Beautiful flagstone courtyard. Comfy bed in Madeline room. Nice personal touch to have beach chair, beach umbrella, and bike rentals readily available. And the path to the beach is close by too!

Such a beautiful, cozy inn! My boyfriend and I stayed for a winter weekend getaway- so glad we found this place. The owner is the nicest guy you'll ever meet and has some great stories. Wine and popcorn hour is a fun way to meet other guests, and the unique Swedish fireplaces were a nice focal point of our stay. The breakfast is great too. Location is perfect, close to the lake and restaurants and a short drive to many antique shops. Would definitely recommend and return!

The Inn is located a short walk to a beautiful beach to watch amazing sunsets and centrally located to all of the great towns in Harbour Country. The staff and owner go out of their way to provide exceptional service and treat their guests like family. They recently installed a new hot tub and bought new bikes that are for use by the guests for free. We also love the wine and popcorn happy hour. Thank you Bill, MaryAnn, and the rest of the staff for a lovely stay!

Great staff. Friendly and helpful. Enjoyed having the bikes to ride as well as the beach chairs, umbrella, and beach towels. The Inn is just a quick 5 minutes to the beach. It is a public beach but it wasn t very crowed either day we were there. We stayed in the Chardonnay Room. Good size room with a couple of comfortable chairs. The pillows were a bit hard for our taste. The bath room is small but that is expected for an older building. The garden area is very nice. We got lunch at The Whistlestop right up the street and ate outside at the Inn.Breakfast was solid. I really liked the peach smoothie we had on day 2.The Inn is very convenient to New Buffalo and St Joseph but into as busy as both of those towns. We d comeback stay again.

The Inn at Union Pier is a hidden gem! The Inn is a little more than 70 miles from Chicago. It s tucked away on a wooded street less than a block from Lake Michigan. And the beach there is spectacular! The Inn itself is clean, charming and cozy. We stayed in the Larkspur room and it was perfect. It had a queen and twin bed so my daughter and I were more than comfortable. In the afternoon, they put out wine and popcorn for the guests. And in the morning the breakfast is prepared when you come down. The rooms were cool and so comfortable while the temperatures outside hovered around 100 degrees. Best of all were the women we met who work at the Inn. Maryanne was wonderful on the phone when I called to gather information. She was so helpful in explaining the Inn to me and the rooms. Although we didn t get to meet her my encounter with her was stellar. Irene checked us in, and took us to our room. She offered us water, popcorn, and cookies upon our arrival. She was always smiling and helpful; and a wealth of information about the area. This morning we met Laurie, and she too was so friendly and helpful. They all made our stay so warm and welcoming. A nice perk of the Inn is that they have beach chairs and umbrellas that you can use during your stay and take down to the beach. They also had beautiful beach bikes, but we were so short on time we didn t get the opportunity to ride one. The end of the street is the Whistle Stop Grocery where you can get sandwiches for lunch, which was convenient and an easy walk. I was looking for a quiet, peaceful, spot near the lake to ride out the excessive heat wave in Chicago for two days. I m so glad we picked the Union Pier Inn! I only wish we could ve stayed another night. And I m already thinking of when we can go again. Thank you for making my first trip to the Michigan beaches so memorable!

A very sweet hidden gem of a bed and breakfast! Very cozy location amidst a residential area right off the beach. Short walk to the water. We felt very welcomed and taken care of by Maryanne and Lori, we loved the cookies and popcorn treats they had for all the guests, as well as the wine social hour where we met a few other people also staying at the inn. Amazing breakfast as well. And the fireplace in our rooms - wow! Thank you for a great stay we will be back

What a charming Inn where everyone made you feel so welcome. We loved our evening in the Chardonnay room. The room and bath were great, spacious and nicely appointed. We even had a lovely fireplace. We enjoyed the staff who could not have been nicer, the breakfast was delicious , and oh yes a happy hour with wine, popcorn and cookies. We were first time visitors, but will definitely be back.

The Inn at Union Pier is in a word, is awesome! Clean, welcoming, relaxing and the most friendly owner and associates I have ever encountered. Our weekend stay was in late February, so we got to experience the unique antique Swedish ceramic stoves. Breakfast was good and happy hour was fun as we enjoyed local Michigan wines and shared our daily activities with other guests. The walk to the shoreline is a 5 minute walk. We have found our weekend getaway, and will definitely return.

Beautiful stay near the beach, good restaurants, and great wineries. The newly renovated Captain s Quarters was the perfect room for our Michigan weekend wine trip. The breakfast was delicious! The evening wine and popcorn is a nice touch, good cookies too. The location, room, people, and breakfast have me looking forward to rebooking. The hope is to enjoy the Swedish fireplace with our next visit.

Had a horrible experience with one of the staff members today who was an older lady . We were parking outside in public spot. She pulled up in her blue suv and told us we couldnt park there and that it was inn parking only. We told her no that small lot right there with the sign that says "inn parking" is for the inn. The road is public. She continued to bully and harass my family and tell us that that whole side of the street was for the inn. Again we told her there were no signs stating that. She then said we were parking too close to the lot and we had to move. Again we said no we are far enough away and we arent moving out car. She said a cop would be by to write us a $50 ticket. The cop came by and said that we were in a public spot and were ok to park there. The employee of this inn lied, harassed and bullied us to get us to leave. She drives a blue mini van with handicap tags. She is a very bad look for the business.

Our family LOVES The Inn at Union Pier! We discovered it last summer, and then went back in the winter. We are heading there again this summer for another stay! Everyone is so nice, the Inn is so charming and the breakfast is AMAZING! Every morning we eagerly awaited our food and every single time it was a HIT! It's in the perfect location, tons to do, seconds from the beach. We took out the bikes every morning after breakfast, such a beautiful place to explore. I highly recommend to anyone who wants a beautiful, relaxing, peaceful, charming and delicious place to stay.

I don't know where to start! My boyfriend and I stayed from Tuesday to Friday the last week of July. This was our first time staying at The Inn at Union Pier, and our second time staying in this area. Our stay at The Inn at Union Pier has topped any other place we have ever stayed. We stayed in the Spring Room and loved how bright and comfortable the room was. It was so clean! Upon check in we had everything we needed already in our room, including bottled waters. The bed was so comfy, it made it difficult to get up and start our day! However, with the promise of an amazing breakfast, we found the motivation! Every breakfast consisted of water, orange juice, coffee and tea, with some form of fruit, (fresh fruit with cottage cheese or a fruit parfait, or a smoothie). There were muffins, each day with a different flavor and the main dish. We had amazing waffles with bacon on day one, eggs and sausage on day two and pancakes with ham on the last morning. At breakfast we were asked if we needed anything for our room (towels, more water, etc.,) and what we asked for was waiting outside our room door as if by magic when we returned after breakfast. The staff was amazing and welcoming and had great suggestions for dinner. Everyone we talked to was so nice and enjoyed talking with us, you can tell that the staff care for the guests and only the best of the best gets hired! (Apparently they were short staffed, but we couldn't tell at all!)The wine and popcorn that was offered every night was amazing, and the cookies they had were the best cookies I have ever had!And of course, the beach was so close and easy to get to, (no stairs!). The inn provided beach chairs and beach towels and even bikes! Even better, the staff was well informed on the conditions of the beaches in the area.We cannot wait to return! I would return tomorrow if I could!

The Inn was beautiful and cozy. It was quiet, warm, and very hospitable. Our room, The Dandelion, was lovely. The special historical fireplaces (kakelugn) imported from Europe and reassembled make this place unique. The food was delicious. The Inn has a wine and popcorn happy hour each night. Homemade cookies, coffee, tea, and popcorn is always available. The innkeepers and employees showed excellent customer service

My husband and I stayed in the Summer room on the last night of our anniversary getaway. I had read good reviews before I booked our stay but our stay was not good at all. The room was not very clean and had popcorn on one of the chairs, the floor must be uneven because the head of the bed was lower than the foot of the bed, not good if you have acid reflux, so we had to double up on the pillows, the bedskirt was partially tucked in and partially out and just looked sloppy, they only had 1 bottle of water for us instead of 2, the shower head is old and doesn t spray good, etc., but the worse part was the breakfast! The inn didn t even smell like breakfast was cooking! We were served a room temperature peach smoothie, a chocolate chip muffin, which we didn t even try, 1/2 a Belgian waffle with blueberry compote, 2 sausage links that seemed to be microwaved, 1/2 an orange slice, and orange juice. Not much of an effort for a B&B breakfast. I believe a fast food breakfast would have been better and I don t even like fast food! After breakfast we were so disappointed we decided to just leave the area and head home. What a terrible end to our anniversary trip. I did text the innkeeper once we left and told her we were disappointed and she apologized and said I should have said something about the breakfast and they would have fixed me scrambled eggs. I sent another text and told her about our wonderful experience the day before at another B&B. Shortly thereafter I received a call from the owner. He proceeded to talk through most of the issues but that was it. Nothing will fix the bad ending to our anniversary trip. The owner didn t even offer to discount our room. I should have asked him to turn the tables and see how he would have felt if he were in my shoes! We expected a nicer room and better service for the money we spent!

Cosey place to stay in a quiet charming town, perfect for vacations. The location is great - lots of wineries to visit and walking distance to the lake. The rooms are nice and unique with an easy to use fireplace that can heat the room well, that was fun for me! My room had a nice balcony with an excellent view. Very friendly staff, highly recommended.

My family were guests at the Inn at Union Pier this past weekend. The stay was a complete pleasure. The rooms were clean and the beds very comfortable. The meals were tasty and delivered warm to our table. The beach is a stone s throw. And the owner was both friendly and accommodating to us. The parking area is very close also. Their staff members are friendly. You leave rested and wanting to return soon. Alex Silva and family.

The Inn at Union Pier creates a perfect relaxed getaway experience. With wood burning fireplaces dispersed throughout the premises, the winter cozy days are never ending. And if visiting for the summer, the beach is just a walk away for fun in the sun. Bill and team create such a welcoming atmosphere. We will definitely be visiting again.

Second time staying here. First time was over the winter and now late spring. Both times have been exceptional. The Inn is nicely decorated and a true escape from normal life. Bill and his staff made my family feel right at home while staying here for my Notre Dame graduation. The staff is friendly and customer-focused. Also conveniently located only a 3 minute walk to Lake Michigan for a great sunset. Also it s tucked away in a quiet area, but is still within a short drive from some great local restaurants. It s hard to pack your bags at the end of your trip. Highly recommend.

Cute but doesn't live up to the hype. Great location near public beaches but the overworked small staff was inadequate for the guests needs. Our room was tiny and freezing cold to the point where we could not stand to be in it. The hot tub was not functional. Breakfast was delicious but seatings in small groups took forever and I didn't get to eat till almost ten! Even after numerous requests for no pork, I was handed a plate with a slice of ham. This place needs some help!

Wonderful inn! Great staff! Excellent room! Breakfast was excellent and while they were short staffed, you could tell the staff cared about the guests. Contrary to other reviews, our wait for breakfast was rather short and we were in line before that person. You can t please everybody!

The best weather for walking and visiting the town of Union Pier and beyond. Even if a tad chilly, a nice cozy fire waiting upon your return. Comfortable rooms, quiet clientele, delicious service and scrumptious breakfast. Thoroughly enjoyed just listening to the wind and waves, it was hard to wave goodbye. Dreaming of my next visit.

A warm greeting at the front desk sets the tone for your stay at this charming inn -just steps from the beach- rated one of the Best Small Inns by Chicago Magazine. From the divine house made granola to the included breakfast (which is creatively different daily) to the comfortably appointed guest rooms with central air and private baths (ours had a Swedish fireplace and private deck) The Inn at Union Pier delivers true hospitality.

Very nice place to stay, we will go back for sure. The owners, Bill & Joyce are super nice people as are all the people working there. The food is very good and the portions are big enough to keep you going for quite a while. We only stayed a couple nights but we will be going back for sure. The rooms were very clean and the beds were good and firm, just the way we like them. This is the first time we stayed at a B&B so was not sure what to expect, the other B&B's will have to work hard to keep up with Inn at Union Pier Thanks to everyone for making our stay a good one!
