I was a young single mom to a severely disabled child (whose father passed away so I was totally on my own). Damien knew this, as my daughter came in with me every time and he was very aware of our situation. What seemed to be a huge blessing at first when he approved me for a vehicle quickly turned into a nightmare that has wreaked havoc on my life the last 10 years. He approved me for a small 2 door Hyundai that has plastic plexiglass for mirrors that didn t work, no working AC or heat and the car was a total lemon. A few months in (and on time payments despite being extremely low income) I called him and told him what was going on. He said I could bring the car back in and swap it out for something else and I was beyond grateful. I dropped that car off and ended up switching to a Chevy Aveo. It was a small little blue car with a few large dents and cosmetic issues but everything seemed to work so I was happy. I did the trade out and signed a new contract, I always did the dealings by myself because I didn t have anyone to help me look at cars and had no clue what I was doing and Damien knew this. I was only 19 years old and very naive. Fast forward a year and a half later, with up to date on time payments until April of 2012 when my wallet was stolen that had all my taxes and cash in it. I was due to make a payment on my car two weeks before that, but was waiting for my taxes and communicated that with Damien. He said that was fine but to have it in before the end of the first week of May. April 26th my disabled daughter had to be rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery and fell severely ill. It was while we were there that I realized my wallet was stolen and my card that had my taxes on it was stolen. I was going to be paying my car payment that day, so I called Damien and told him what was going on. Told him I was at Bronson hospital with my daughter, and that my wallet was stolen but that I would pay as soon as we were discharged and figure it out. I was trying to communicate and do the right thing, knowing I was likely going to be even later. He said ok, we got off the phone, and a little while later I realized my car was re-po d. I was stranded at the hospital with my disabled and sick toddler with no money, no wallet, and now no car and also was fired from my job because I had to call off while my daughter was in the hospital. It went to court, and that s when I realized just how severely he took advantage of the situation. On my statement was not only the car I was driving and paying on, but also the previous car that I had returned to him and traded for the other. He was charging me for both vehicles! I ended up owing around $13,000 for a vehicle that was worth around maybe $2,000. He knew I was young, naive, and desperate for a vehicle to get my daughter to all her appointments with no help from family and no one to teach me how royally he was screening me over, and he took full advantage of that. I am 31 years old now and am finally recovering my credit from this whole ordeal. We make good money, we own a nice home, and have nice vehicles from actual dealerships who aren t little B lots and looking back on how badly this grown man took advantage of and screwed over a young single mom to a disabled child disgusts me. It s criminal. I will never recommend house of cars to anyone and am shocked they are even still in business. Run. I know it s hard because he s usually the only one around here who will approve you with bad or no credit but it s not worth it. He s shady and will not care on bit to turn your world upside down or put you out. You re better off going to express Auto or Car City where at least they are a big business with standards and guidelines to follow if you re in need of a quick cash down car that you ll be over charged for.
