Knowledgeable, honest, and reasonably priced - exactly what you want in an automotive repair shop. It's an old-school business (in a positive sense), neither modern looking nor flashy, but someone you can trust to do the job right. Transmission and drivetrain repairs are not cheap, but they will work with you to find a cost effective solution and stand behind their work. Before you pay a dealer $7,000, stop at RC Trans & Gear and talk to Dell.

Had my clutch and flywheel replaced, they did it for a good price and were fairly polite and welcoming however the windshield wipers no longer work (they did offer to fix it i couldn't miss work the next day and i cant afford to not have a car) and they didnt use any sort of protection for the paint on my car i have all sorts of new scratches everywhere they worked and left dirt on my steering wheel as well im especially upset as this car has a brand new bumper (less than 1k miles at time of repair) and my car is low mileage and had pristine (minus a chip in the hood) paint all the way around you can see where they wiped my car with a dirty shop rag. The small scratches will buff out there is one deep one going into the drivers seat that was not there prior that wont buff out and will likely need new paint. But my clutch works.

I highly recommend RC Trans & Gear. Dell and his staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They diagnosed the problems with my transmission and then took the time to properly explain the situation and the options going forward. By far my best experience with automotive repair in a very long time. 5 stars all the way.

They are so nice and helpful here! Although my old car wasn't worth putting in a new trans, their customer service was excellent throughout the process of finding out what was wrong, at no charge. I was going to junk the car and they offered to buy it off of me too, which was so convenient during a stressful time.

Honest work. Their hard work shows, their new shop is twice the size of the old one. We bring our cars down from Traverse just so they can work on them. Latest project, they upgraded the axles on our JK Jeep build

Trans shop says they won't swap a factory transmission out with the exact same transmission...can hear the dude in the background saying tell him we won't do it. He clearly doesn't have a clue I just told you swap a 5 speed factory transmission with another factory 5 speed. So what do you do here? Definitely avoid this shop.

Idk about this place anymore. I went there several times back when randy was still alive and everything was wonderful, great service, very knowledgeable and good prices. Unfortunately it seems to have gone downhill since then. Took my camaro there with a manual transmission for an issue I was having. They clearly drove the car about 10 feet and came up with some silly diagnosis. After discussing it for about 10 seconds with me he realized he was totally wrong and said he would take it for another drive. After this drive he claimed the synchros were bad. Said they don t rebuild transmissions and that I would have to buy a new t56 and have that put in. The issue I was having affected all 6 gears plus reverse. Apparently he (Del) thought all 6 synchros went out at the same time?? Give me a break. Took car to a different shop who actually took the time to correctly diagnose the issue. It wound up being a simple fix, essentially just a clutch adjustment. Glad I didn t listen to Del s advise and buy a whole new trans!

Pretty annoyed with this place.On Monday, I called and talked to a guy who "just works the phones and doesn't know much about transmissions," and there wasn't anyone else there at the time who I could talk to. I called back on Tuesday and talked to a guy who was very knowledgeable and helpful, and made an appointment to have a transmission fluid drain and fill done today.I dropped off my car last night using the key drop. When they didn't follow up with me by 1 pm today, I called and they said they had no record of my appointment. They also said that they didn't have any transmission fluid and to have it done today I would have to pay an extra $100 for them to get it from a parts store. The guy I talked to didn't seem to have much customer service skill and implied it was unreasonable for me to be upset. They weren't willing to waive the extra cost even though this was due to their screwup. I'm now out $30 from ubering back and forth.When I asked, they did offer to give me $20 towards the uber for me to come back another day, but after this experience and their attitude, I'm just going to go somewhere else.

This shop has done a couple of my cars. Fair honest work. They have plenty of work, so they're not sitting around waiting for it. You may have to wait a bit to get your car worked on. Price of having good quality work done.

Fantastic service. Called Dan about transmission rebuild after the dealership wanted to charge me 6K with a two year warranty. These guys were great. Rebuilt transmission at a fair price with 5 year warranty!There is a reason they have been in business, at the same location, for 40 years. Highly recommended for both vehicle and customer service.

I was told by another shop that I needed a new transmission. They said it would be a little over $4500 for a refurbished transmission with over 40 thousand miles more than mine. I panicked and called every transmission shop I could find, trying to get as much information as possible. I gave each of them the engine code that was read on my van. Almost everyone had a different answer and different quote. Most wanted to charge just to take a look. which is what the first shop I took it to did. $140 just to tell me what they "thought "was wrong with it. The gentleman on the phone at RC made me feel comfortable. He warrentied his work fo 5 years. That was way beyond any other shop. He not only quoted me a reasonable price for a rebuild of my transmission, he promised to check out the electrical code first and said that he would check the common electrical issue with that code before moving forward. I asked what he was going to charge if it was both? He said it would be the same quote that was given to me regardless of the electrical issue. Another shop wanted to charge an additional 2500 in addition to the quote that they offered! I was relieved that the price would stay he same. Sure enough it was the electrical component that failed. My transmission was fine. It ended up costing me a little over $900.00. I was so relieved and grateful for his honestly, and fair pricing. It has been tough on us recently and this place gave me faith in humanity again. I will forever recommend this business to anyone who needs it. This shop save our family over $3500. Wasn't sure where the leak was coming from. They diagnosed and contacted me quickly. The price was lower than most shops and service was incredible. These are now "my guys"!!!

Went there personally before having car towed there to be serviced. Was given honest assessment of potential problem. Was impressed by detail in maintaining shop and in explaining to me what can be issue with trans. Trans shifts smoothly, no slipping Prices are fair. Comes with 5 year warranty. Very good experience. Would highly recommend to others

Dan and his crew were incredibly helpful in replacing the transmission on my Nissan Rogue! I told them about my plans to travel back home for the holidays and they made sure that the repairs before my travel date. RC Trans & Gear is a family-owned business and they are honest with their evaluations and estimates. Would recommend!

I recently purchased a high mileage vehicle and asked them for an assessment of the transmission and transfer case. I was expecting to pay a couple hundred bucks for service. When I arrived I got open honest feed-back on the vehicle. They checked several areas and did not charge me. I feel this is rare and don't look forward to any repairs, but do look forward to working with them in the future.Service: Transmission

Rebuilt my trans and it was great....for a week until 1st gear went out again. Then it took them over 3 months to do it again. Got the vehicle back and electrical was all messed up. They said they didn't touch it and to bad. Took the vehicle to an electric shop and found thet plugged the harness in wrong causing all my issues. Now about 2 years later 2nd gear is going. Terrible business practices, quality of work severely lacking.Service: Transmission

These guys are superb! They were recommended to me by word of mouth and they did not disappoint! My daughter's trans was smoking pretty bad and had a stripped bolt. I couldn't find where the fluid was leaking from and finally decided to get a professional involved. From the first moment they were exceptionally professional and helpful, especially Dan and Dell! Turns out I had too much fluid. RC drained the extra fluid, fixed the stripped bolt, and even gave me a ride home when there were no Uber rides available...and didn't charge me anything!These are my trans guys from here on out!!!

Took $5500 from me to replace my 8hp70 automatic transmission with a brand new OEM 0 mile trans, instead they bought a rebuild kit worth $2500 and charged the labor as $3000. You don t rebuild these 8 speeds. Called me and told me I needed a new driveshaft because my carrier pin was shot. Under the first pull after a 700 mile break in, something metal pings off my car and I have video evidence. I ll guarantee my driveshaft was not replaced and some hackjob welded something in. Now the car is saying service stability control and locking up the steering wheel on turns. $6600 wasted, and even though I have a 60 month unlimited warranty with this shop, my car will not be going to this shop to get fixed. If you own a fast car with an expensive transmission don t take it here. It s just too expensive for them to lie about what they re going to do and mess it up, oh and when you show up to grab your car have fun sitting in the waiting room for 30-45 mins til someone walks past and finally acknowledges you since they don t have a bell or anything to get anyone s attention.Service: Transmission

My encounter with RC Trans is so bad its comical. Went for a trans service; fluid and filter. They rebuilt my trans 1 year earlier and it was time fotmr service. Argued with owner, foreman and tech about pan bolt tork. They said 160 inch lbs, I said the mercedes dealer parts dept max 80 inch lbs. They got their way and sent me down the road with stripped pan bolts and of course it leaked. Brought it back, they ran a nut and bolt thru the hole and said my wiring harness bushing should be replaced. I said ok. They replaced and stripped the bolt holding the wiring to an internal trans computer. More to the story but to sum it up. 6 return visits over two weeks. Then the next week, then when next week comes they say next week. Left my vehicle with them for two days and waited in their lobby 5 times of an average of 2 hours per. Also, to fix their errors its looking like about $1000, ill update this post. After pondering the whole situation I feel sorry for these guys, blinded by pride their incompetence is epic! My vehicle has been virtually inoperable (leaking trans fluid) since June 29, the date of this post is 07/25/2021.i almost didn't post a complaint, I don't want to kill their business, but I wouldn't wish this experience on my worst enmy, and feel obligated to inform.in addition the rebuilt trans experience 1 year earlier was not good, but that's another story. Beware!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!�

My wife had a 1996 Grand Prix that she took in to RC Trans & Gear in 2001 and she had problems with the trans in like 2009 after getting stuck in the snow. She took the car back to RC Trans and after inspecting the car, they fixed the car and called to say the car was ready for pick-up. When my wife asked for the price of the repair they said zero, and that the trust washer was in spec but on the low side during the last rebuild. Wow I know of places that would say that the transmission needed a new rebuild and full charge. We have had two other cars in for repair with great results. Thanks for the integrity, and the great work.

Mike and his team did a great job on rebuilding my son's 1997 Dodge Ram transmission. They were fast and reasonable. I will recommend RC Trans & Gear to all my friends. Thanks for your superior work RC!

I would not take my vehicle back here again, I think Mike generally wants to do a good job but is just overwhelmed and understaffed. The guy who serviced my truck didn't know to remove the drain plug in the pan before removing the bolts causing the deep aftermarket heavy aluminum pan to pull the last bolt out of the transmission in front of me, I asked him if the drain plug was stuck and he said "I didn't even see it" did not give me a good feeling. I took the truck in for a leaking pan gasket and of course when I got the truck back the pan leaked worse than it did before LOL when I called to bring it back in it was one excuse after another why I couldn't bring it back in finally I crawled under it and fixed it myself.

I took my 205 SRXRx there to have my transmission repaired or replaced theydid a very good job I just ne problem it took 90 days to have my transmission repair and the explanation for that was the Corona virus situation so I was very happy just like I said it just took so long I would recommend them

They have rebuilt 2 transmissions for me 03 Chevy 2500hd plow truck and Today picked up my 02 explorer.. very happy with their honesty and how they take the time to talk to me and even answer my wife's questions when she picked up her explorer today. They use better than oe parts and I trust them.( I was so happy with how they took care of my 1st rebuild... I had paid the extra $5/mile to have the explorer towed from 24 & vandyke probably passing dozens of other trans shops) worth it!!!
