Absolutely beautiful location! Room was decorated beautifully, very clean, and comfortable. Lots of towels, which is always great! Lots of extras outside of the room like a grill, fire pit, and chairs by the hotel as well as on the lake across the street. Staff was very friendly. We will definitely stay again! Below was how I enjoyed my coffee in the morning!

My wife Melly and I stayed here a few years ago when we toured the Michigan Coastline on our motorcycles. I returned again this year by myself on another road trip. Severe weather was rolling in for the next day and the staff was able to accommodate an extra night for me at the last minute. They have been extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms are quaint and clean. It's a well kept Motel from the 1950's. There is a little swimming area with dock across the street from the Portage Lake Motel and it's an easy walk to a very nice restaurant, pub, grocery store, etc... So I was made very comfy as I waited out the storms. Portage Lake Motel was a lot more accommodating than the place in Glen Arbor with the non-refundable everything policy. Was better safe than force myself to ride my motorcycle in monsoon levels of thunderstorm. Thanks to the Portage lake Motel and their extremely friendly staff. I can highly recommend this place the any travelers.

Had an awesome stay here! The rooms was nice, and very clean. The bed was comfortable and I had a view of the water. The only downfall was that my window was facing the sidewalk so people walking by could totally see in. Make sure to call if you will check in after 6, since they close the lobby then.

We loved this place. We stayed in 12 which has a nice view of the water and 2 windows. The decor was a nice mix of beachy with some old timey fixtures and retro tile in the bathroom. The place was spotless with plenty of AC power for a warm day. Larry the owner was super nice and recommended some good local places to see. I could definitely see us staying a week here if we bring the boat back up this way. The area was beautiful.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for a weekend. It was wonderful. Clean room, comfortable bed, great views of the water from the room. The staff was awesome and they made it clear from the start that staff is only there until 6pm. But that if we had any issues that we could call them after hours. We didn't utilize the beach but the room did come with beach access on a section of shoreline that the motel owns. All in all it was a great place that I would definitely stay at again and highly recommend.

Great roadside motel. Very clean, very friendly staff and owner. Loved being able to walk across the street to beach and pier. Dropped our kayaks in and enjoyed Portage lake. Short walk to the shops, restaurants, and town parks. Room was great overall, bathroom needed some updating but had what we needed. Will definitely be back here

We absolutely loved our stay here! Larry and his wife bought it recently and it s great. The customer service is superb. They personally showed us around the property, recommended restaurants and even lended us beach towels. The fire pit and outdoor sitting area on the beach were fantastic. Rooms were very clean with great decor. Somethings are a little dated since it was built in the 50s but the property was very well kept. Would definitely stay again!

I loved the owners, they were really fantastic people. The room was very eclectic and clean, so if you are looking for cookie cutter hotel rooms this place isn't for you. Talked to some great people in the area. If you are looking for a place to stay coming through the area, the prices are great and it is a nice experience.

I was very surprised with the Portage Lake Motel. Given that it's only $90 a night and 4 people can comfortably fit in a room, this is a great price. I was also really surprised at how clean the rooms were. The plumbing does resemble that of an old school lake house but it's still clean and functional. For the price, it's hard to beat. Just a note though, the water has a lot of iron in it.

Larry and staff are super friendly and accommodating. They have worked hard to update the rooms and they are clean and comfortable. This location is perfect if you want to have a boat either anchored out front or at the marina within walking distance. The Glenwood fine dining is also a short walk away and village park, coffee store, etc. We love Onekama and Portage Lake Motel!!

Owners very helpful and accomodating. A pet friendly place. Nice clean rooms. WiFi...Frig...plugins for USB ports, cell phone charging an nice size TV. I really cannot say enough about this place...Great view of the lake and they offer 20% off cards to a couple of restaurants in Onekama. Room prices are decent as well. If we could give them more stars we would!!

Only able to give 5 stars because that s all that available. This place is amazingly clean, owners are top notch. Can t beat the price for the amenities that are received. Lake access, bonfire pit with everything provided right on the beach. Gas grill available, gas fire pit, cable, WiFi, coffee maker and fridge in the room. And linens that smell clean. Can t say enough good about this place.

Nice View of the lake from our room. Disappointed that there was no ice in the machine even though the ads for the motel says....please use our ice and fill your cooler too. We got there, got in Pajamas only to find no ice. Had to redress and go to the gas station as our drinks needed ice. Very limited office hours, you have to call them to check in after 6pm.

If you're ice fishing, you have access right to the lake. Snowmobiles and other machines are allowed. Rooms were nice for cheap. Shower water pressure was good. Rooms were clean.

Exceptional staff and clean rooms made this a very pleasant place to stay. Located in cute Onekama with water frontage directly across the street. We will be back next year with our Yorkies. Thank you for running such a great family motel.
