Very thankful for the help and support of the team at the Houghton Lake U-Haul company. They were able to help us rent a vehicle transporter that worked perfectly. I was about ready to give up due to an unfavorable experience with the U-Haul corporate call center earlier in the day where they used high pressure sales tactics and were unable to quote me a comparative rate unless I asked them to re-run the quote with different drop-off and pick up locations. The Houghton Lake team picked up the ball that the corporate call-center dropped, and we had a terrific rental from them.

Everything was great, but assuming all U-HAUL locations use the same procedures and offer the same quality equipment, only the people and their customer service skills can make a difference. Sandy was awesome! Keep up the good work.

Sandy kept my husband and I standing there for 10 minutes before she acknowledged we were there while she was on her cellphone on a personal call. Then when she finally acknowledged us she got rude right off bat she then refused service that we had reserved already. Sandy find another job customer service is not for you. I will not recommend this location to anyone.

Sandy was helpful and personable! She explained to me why the process of renting a van is a little different than a box truck. She also volunteered to help with a family that I mentioned was moving out of a shelter and needed furniture. I will recommend Sandy and this location to anyone looking for moving help! The van was very clean and well maintained, it felt safe and comfortable to drive.

One of the best customer services experiences I have ever had. Sandy was friendly, informative, and clearly was focused on taking care of her customers. Just one example of her showing this was while warming up my truck before I rented it, she notice a low tire pressure light. Being January, this wasn t unusual but she wasn t comfortable with me taking a truck with a potential problem. She immediately swapped out the truck for a different larger one for no extra charge without my asking.Dealing with Sandy and this business was a great experience throughout my whole rental. Highly recommended!!!

I received awesome customer service from 3 different employees at the UHaul in Houghton Lake today! I had to rent a small trailer for a last minute emergency and went to the right place. Daniel helped me out through the whole process. providing me with tools to assemble my hitch, hooking up the trailer before i could even think about doing it, and even put a couple new fuses in my car that were missing for the trailer lights. When I still didn t have power to the trailer lights, Jerry was able to diagnose the problem and even fixed the corroded wire for me super fast allowing the trailer lights to finally work. I wanted to give up a couple diff. times when things weren t going right, but Daniel and Jerry helped me with all of my problems when they didn t have to. Cassie was also very helpful on the phone and made the drop off process very quick and easy right before they closed for the night.Thanks Again!!!Tyler

I don't owe you anything to take your stuff off my trailer.I'm sure the owner understands how moving these pods are more efficient effective ways to haul medium sized freight (not at this location tho). As in, when I order something that costs thousands of dollars for shipping, I am happy when it arrives. Employees and managers on the other hand...I had to camp behind the store for 17 hours because operating a forklift after 4pm is a sin.You owe me for delivering your stuff, I do this for money lady, not for fun or because I like camping behind industrial buildings.

Called on phone to ask LP price and they tell me. Get there LITEARALLY less then 5 minutes later for them to tell me they didn't have anyone there that could do it. WHY WOULD YOU NOT SAY THAT WHEN I CALLED!?!?!?!

Sandy and crew was awesome today, 8/14/2023. Simply put, I am a mother trying to help her son in a tough time. I had the equipment to tow so off I went to get the only trailer on a Sunday. Upon hook-up, it was discovered a blinker would not work. Fuse? Possible but after lots of investigation it was not. A wire breakage. By this time I was in tears. They stood up and worked me in to get it fixed and on the road for my two hour drive to my son. There are angels in this world and I met a group of them today.

The cranky woman running this location, Sandy, gave me attitude the moment I walked in the door. To her, everything was a problem. The fact that I made the reservation online irritated her. The credit card I was trying to use, she refused to accept. Mind you, through our entire transaction she was taking calls on her cell phone, which I find extremely rude. When I had trouble providing someone else's phone number to her (for what reason, I do not understand), she got very angry. When I found another's phone number to provide her, I asked politely if she could please hurry, since this process was taking much longer than it should've. At that point Sandy threw my credit card at me, told me I was annoying her, and said she would not rent a truck to me. I had to drive nearly an hour to another location to rent a truck. (I went to the Roscommon location, where I was treated very well.) I found out at that point that Sandy had put a cautionary note on my account, deterring others from renting to me, as if I were a problem customer. This was a very disappointing and upsetting experience. I do NOT recommend this location, ever!

This UHaul experience was very good. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. They had the truck warming and ready for us when we arrived. Unfortunately there was a cracked windshield, so they had to put us in another truck. This was all done quickly and efficiently. We were on our way pretty quickly.Our reservation wasn't an easy one as we were supposed to pick up a U-Haul 85 miles North of Houghton Lake, but none were available. The 800 customer service went out of it's way to find us a truck that was in our travels and not charge us for the extra miles.Through a series of understandable errors we were charged more than we should have been. But everyone from the 800 # to the Houghton Lake store went out of their way to make it right. Fixing it was a pleasant easy experience, not a confrontation.To summarize I would highly recommend U-Haul and especially the Houghton Lake U-Haul if you need a truck for anywhere in Northern Michigan! Great Job!

Manager Sandra is the queen of customer service. She goes way above and beyond to help her customers get what they need when they need it, and she does it all with a smile. Seriously, the best U-Haul experience I've ever had.

Sales woman was very unclear on the hours of operation. Tried to charge me for a full day but the trailer has to be returned in 4 hrs? Since when is 4 hrs a full day???? I will never use u-haul again. Home Depot has trailers for less $ anyway and the sales person isn't 20 yr old kid that doesn't explain anything...

Came in with a loose hitch installed at another U-Haul location. Sandy jumped into action and called her helper to come up on his off day to tighten the bolts. He was there in less than 10 minutes and we were out within 30 minutes. All the stars! Thank you!!!

This is the greatest group of people I have ever met! The complex is phenomenal and 100's of options to fit every possible option. Great asset for Houghton Lake and surrounding area. Sandra is super friendly and always helpful.

Called in August to reserve spot.was told no reservations and to call back in September. Called back in September and was told no more spaces available only valet parking and to come asapDrove 2 hrs next day to be told no space. I was told that if they don't answer the call it goes to Arizona. Someone there must have said they had space. Pretty crummy customer service to let someone drive all that way whenThey don't have any idea if space is available.

I went online and reserved a spot for my vehicle over the winter, at Houghton Lake Michigan U-Haul. I was given a reservation number and move-in date for my vehicle. I drove three hours to be told there was nothing they could do for me that I should have called and confirmed even though I thought I confirmed online making the reservation! And then she proceeded to tell me that I made a mistake online and reserved a motorcycle spot, I then pulled out the reservation paper that says right on there it was for a vehicle spot she then had nothing to say after that! And then had the luxury of driving my expensive mustang home in a snowstorm!!

Arrived around 3 p.m. on a Friday afternoon to fill propane tanks. Sign said ring bell for service. NO BELL. So we went inside to inquire. We were told to come back in 1 hr. the employee that new how to fill tanks would be in at 5. The lady even called the other employee to make sure they would be available. So we wait the hour only to be told pump is broken. Total waste of time . Now the other store is closed. Don't count on them for propane.

I cant even begin to Express how wonderful of an experience it was dealing with the uhaul in Houghton lake. The staff went over and beyond in every aspect. I would recommend using them anytime.

Paid for a truck overnight, then apon returning it they charged me an extra $80 for going more than a 100 miles on the odometer but didnt specify these terms when i rented the truck. So $263 later for 24 hours in their smallest truck.

No one was there when we came to pick up our u-haul. The doors were locked and we weren't able to get our u-haul on Monday despite ordering it on Friday. Ridiculous business, would not recommend nor ever come back. Do not bother wasting your time here!!
