We've stayed here twice now and have been satisfied and happy with it no real complaints,The pool area is slightly hard to access due to elevation. There is no elevator. The pool area is nice. There is hot tub and sauna which is nice also. weekend pricing is a little spendy but pretty averageRooms: Great rooms, pretty clean, a little outdated but overall okayNearby activities: hotel is on the main stretch, right across from decent places to eat and within 5 minutes of local dispensaries

Very easy, and friendly check-in. Quirky layout to the hotel, but honestly sometimes quirky is good.Room was ready early, and I was super glad to be able to check in early.Great location, and again, very helpful and friendly staff.Walkability: Right on the downtown strip, convenient to many restaurants.

A beautiful hotel in the perfect location. Staff is super friendly. Hot breakfast is expansive. Very clean. Comfy beds. Great pool, hot tub, and sauna. Even used the workout room. Excellent accommodations - a great value.Right across from the Ambassador. Short walk to multitude of tasty restaurants and shopping.

This is a very odd hotel. It feels like it was built over an old motel, and the reason I say that is because there are windows for each room but also additional windows in the hallway. There are privacy curtains behind the decorative ones to help deal with this. The lobby did not seem to be immediately connected to where I was staying, but there are multiple doors that lead to where my room was. Reception was very helpful with this, as she gave me a map to get around. The bed is extremely comfortable and unusually welcoming. The sink area has quite a lot of space. The toilet, however, has a weird button on top that controls flushing rather than a lever on the side. If you are using it, it is hard to reach. Otherwise, everything looks clean.Edit: I'm adding photos of this place just to show how bizarre the layout is. Also, I started to notice an issue with my door scraping against the pillar holding the door frame. I will be adding a picture of that another time.Nearby activities: There is a lot to do here! Tons of restaurants and a cute little downtown.Walkability: Right in the middle of downtown Houghton. There are a ton of restaurants in the area surrounding the hotel.

After being told we would be getting upgraded to a king room with a view being it was our anniversary. We checked into the room, only to find out it was nasty condition. Love seat was badly stained, mirrors were filthy, and some unknown stuff on ceiling. Went to bring it to the front desks attention so we don't get stuck with a fee, blaming our dog. After bringing it to her attention, we was informed that was not a pet friendly room, or section. Mind you we checked in and paid the $20 for the pet. Only to be moved into a dead end hallway dungeon, pet friendly room with an creepy view of a dark hallway. Highly disappointing anniversary get away!

For the price this is a Low Quality Inn. Starting with the price, it is very disproportionate for the entire experience. If this was a $100 a night room, I would be much more accepting of the general disrepair, and lack of cleanliness. However at $250 for a tiny room, with a tiny dirty bathroom, and beds that although were comfortable would crunch, and squeak with the smallest of movements. The layout is also pretty strange, and I assume this was once a motel with exterior doors, and someone thought wrapping a newer skin around it would make everything better... Nope.If you have any form of issues with stairs, be careful here. They are uneven and have undersized treads.Basically a lawsuit waiting to happen. In closing, look elsewhere if you can. I won't be staying here again.

I don't understand the low rating on this hotel. Is it an odd layout? Yes. But its an older property in a small town with very little room to expand or renovate. The location alone is worth 4 stars. Literally steps from historic and fun downtown Houghton. Our room was clean and very comfy. Staff was wonderful and upgraded us to the 6th floor with a view that is amazing. We will be back to stay again for sure.

Had a great experience, Nancy was wonderful she went above and beyond to make sure we had a wonderful experience. All the staff was friendly and nice. The quality inn has a lot of great amenities, the continental breakfast, the pool, the hot tub, the sauna, the fitness center room everything was great and made a good post we will definitely be coming back and will definitely be telling our friends and family about the quality inn here.Rooms: The rooms are small and cozy but very clean and neat aesthetically pleasing.Nearby activities: There are a lot of state parks and just parks and beaches to go look at rocks and collect rocks or theirs tours you can take as well.Safety: The pool and hot tub and sauna all have a camera watching but you should probably have adults with children in there.Walkability: There's a lot to do downtown and a lot of shops and a lot of restaurants nearby within walking distance.Food & drinks: There's a very good continental breakfast has a lot to choose from yogurt hard boiled eggs cheese omelette sausages waffles and there's a large area to eat breakfast or you could bring your food to your room if you'd like.

Clean comfortable room. Good location. Priced a lot higher than Google states. The WiFi was not good. It keeps disconnecting. The room has a window but it looks out over the hall way. Walkability: Walking distance to lots of restaurants and a few bars.

Flat out, you can't put lipstick on a pig and make it nice. We stayed because we were running out of places and they allowed our dog. The room keys wouldn't open the outside doors so we had to exchange them. When we got to the room one of the beds had the pillows on the chair but it looked clean, so ok they forgot to finish. There was even garbage left in the waste basket! When I went in to use the bathroom, there was black hair all along the base of the outside of tub area. Not sure when they cleaned the fan in the bathroom. I tried to call down to the front desk and the phone didnt work. I took my dog out for a walk and went up the ramp to the parking area which overlooks the roof line of the 2nd floor. The soffit was hanging down in several places and there was a bird nest in it. When I brought all these things to the front desk person, all they said was ,"Oh I'll let housekeeping know" Don't bother staying here!!!

Honestly overpriced for what you get. If anything paying for the location. Our room keys deactivated not once but twice, which never had happen before. Our toilet seat wouldn't stay up and the room always seemed humid and clammy. Breakfast was nice to have but usually was awkwardly moist eggs and greasy bacon. Honestly save yourself money and book a room down the street

Lovely hotel, mostly all updated now. Our room was very comfortable. Nice warm pool and hot tub we swam in. Great staff, very helpful (Nancy), and good hot breakfast. And perfect location right downtown, plus the ONLY place downtown that allows PETS!! Very enjoyable stay and had fun in Houghton.

Great location, awesome staff, but gotta say, my dog friendly room STINKS so bad and not from my dog. Considering they charge extra for a dog, this didn't seem right. I mean, Holy cow, really stinky. Ugh.Walkability: Restaurants and shops nearby

While the location of this hotel was great and the staff that we did interact with were pleasant, the hotel itself is falling apart. We stayed on the first floor, where our room's carpet and bathroom flooring felt wet and damp the entire time we were there (3 nights). The carpet was frayed in the transition to the bathroom and coming undone. The tissue box was falling out of the wall above the bathroom counter and I could see right through the drywall. The walls were scratched and marked up. The nightstands and dresser felt kind of greasy, like it really needed to be cleaned more than just a quick dusting. The pillows on the king size bed were the tiniest pillows I've ever seen, they weren't even a queen-sized pillow. The whole room needed a deep, DEEP clean. Luckily we were busy enough that we only used the room to sleep. Would rather hang out on the 2nd floor patio or down by the canal. The tea offered in the lobby was good. We'll probably try somewhere else next time, or try our luck with a room on another level if there are no other options.

Our originally reserved room was not accessible (stairs required) the staff was kind and switched us. The parking is atrocious. There are very few spots in the front, fewer handicapped spots. Side parking spots are all on a very steep hill. Overflow garage is a level grade but a walk to the elevator. The pool and hot tub are wheelchair accessible. The grade of the hallway to breakfast is steep and narrow. There were waffles and fresh fruit. The lovely lady running breakfast was my favorite part of this hotel.

Rooms were average at best. Price was too high for what you get. Free Breakfast was good and wait staff was very friendly. Breakfast should go until 10, stops at 9:30. Pool, hot tub, and sauna were fine. Location was great- right downtown and close to shops and restaurants. I would say there are better options available. Won't stay here again.

One of the better Quality Inns. Definitely still a motel, but the only real complaint is mosquitoes could get in through the bathroom exhaust fan vent. Just keep the bathrooms closed. Like most hotels a bit damp but the AC basically knocks this out.Rooms: Rooms are clean and the furniture is in good condition. All the amenities work. Bathroom fan vent allows mosquitoes in so I recommend keeping the bathroom door shut.Nearby activities: This is RIGHT in downtown Houghton. Michigan Tech, restaurants, NPS Isle Royale office, Houghton waterfront are all nearby.Safety: This is a very safe motel. Houghton itself is low crime and there were no sketchy people hanging around.Walkability: You are directly in downtown Houghton and can walk to a bunch of restaurants, Michigan Tech, and most of Houghton.Food & drinks: Breakfast was above average for Quality Inn. Full hot continental breakfast with eggs, sausage/bacon and waffle iron plus yogurt, bagels/toast, donuts etc. Obviously it's not mind blowing but on the upper end of included breakfasts at motels.

We had a larger group and first it was so nice that we found a room that would accommodate more than 4 people comfortably so that was already a win. Check in was a breeze and we had no issues. The high point, however, was the AMAZING breakfast attendant. We have been traveling a lot lately only to find an apple or a microwave sandwich for breakfast but we were delighted to see that they still had everything a precovid continental breakfast would bring. We snuck in a few minutes before it ended ,as did many other guests, and Donna went ABOVE AND BEYOND!! She catered to all the guests, refilled the stations with a smile, came to individual tables and made sure every last guest was taken care of. Made our day and honestly couldn't say enough about this experience. I'm sure other guests feel the same. 10/10 for Donna alone.

Pros- clean, comfortable beds (my hips didn't ache), awesome location, pool smells like cedar sauna instead of chlorine, and finally a hotel with a nightlight in the toilet!Cons- small room is cramped for 3 - no table, just a desk, and only 1 towel bar.3rd floor room was great view, no one above us, higher ceiling.

We had a wonderful stay! Miss Donna was wonderful at breakfast. We had a great time in the pool and spa. We stayed in the loft room and it was so spacious for our large family. The view is beautiful and the location is perfect. Our kids loved the chutes and ladders playground down by the water. It s probably the best playground we ve been to!

TV didn't work in our room. Angela came down to try and fix it (the remote was faulty). She couldn't get it to cooperate, either, so she moved us into the room next door. She was amazing - and super friendly. The room was as expected. The only real complaint I have is that it always felt damp in there - even with the a/c on. The carpet even felt damp on bare feet.Bed was super comfy.

Location of the hotel is perfect if you want a view of the water and to be downtown. We had a room on the top floor on the hotel with a great view of the town and bridge. The layout of the hotel is not typical but we didn t mind the short walk up the stairs to the room. Donna Mae is your gal when it comes to the breakfast! She made the breakfast lively with her personality and knows all about the Packers and hockey in Calumet.

Try not to get a room next to the insanely busy road. We had to change rooms. The front desk assistant manager made things right for us.If you are traveling with a dog there are long, steep walks to grass. Otherwise we ll located for restaurants and river walk. Great bedsheets!

Location and parking was central. If you have a larger vehicle or and trailer, I highly recommend staying somewhere else. Parking is too small for hotel and very limited. Had to park my trailer 3 blocks away then had to park on opposite side of building. Room itself was excellent, but bed old and worn out. Breakfast served inconveniently opposite end of building of checkout and on 4th floor. View from room was amazing.

The A/C unit in my room was leaking water which soaked the carpeting in 1/2 of the room and it also created a horrible smell (like cat urine). I contacted the front desk on two occasions during my stay. They never sent maintenance or house keeping to address the issue. I was up in Houghton for move in weekend at Michigan Tech. The hotel was sold out and they stated they couldn't move me to a different room. They should have at least sent someone to fix it and/or help clean it up. When I check out, I asked for an adjustment to my bill. They gave me $15 off of my stay of almost $900. When I questioned about a larger credit, the hotel stated that that was the only credit that they would give me. Will not stay here again or recommend this hotel to anyone I know.
