Admittedly, I hadn t even read the reviews until I went to write my own. I had just googled a place that was nearby my office after being tired of paying dealership prices and having rather mediocre service elsewhere for a major repair.I have definitely found my new go to place from here on out and will recommend highly! It s clear why the reviews here are so positive. So friendly and kind on the phone and at drop off and I was in an out in half a day. He noticed I was way overdue for an oil change and offered to do that as well while it was there even though they were jam packed. The repair was relatively minor but I was certain I had misheard the total cost over the phone. I was shocked at how reasonably priced it was. I can t imagine a scenario where I will go anywhere else again. Very highly recommend!

Not a half bad little shop. Older guys there like to do things the old school way. Very affordable and very honest people. This might be our go to shop that's close to home

One of the most honest business owners I've ever encountered. He genuinely does his best to save his customers money (even when it results in less profits for himself). I will take all of my vehicles here as long as they are open.This is also one of the cleanest private shops I've ever seen. Charvat's shows obvious care in every aspect of the business.

A local, friendly car shop that provides an array of maintenance to many vehicle models. I ve taken both of my cars over the past 5 years and have always received prompt, honest service. They are affordable and fair with pricing compared to the high markup shops. I trust them- they have even covered and repaired things complementary when it was the result of prior work they had done that did not last as long as it should have.

Jim and Craig always take great care of me and my Chevy Impala. I've always found the folks at Charvats to be knowledgeable, fair, thorough, good communicators, and efficient in their turnaround on repairs. I've rarely been without my car for more than a day.

A dead starter on Monday and no paycheck until Thursday? Not a problem!It has honestly been the most pleasant car troubles I've had in my life. They even fixed up an exhaust rumble that I'd just learned to deal with. Timely and understanding service is one thing, but great prices too? It was a pleasure to do business with them.Services: Transmission, Exhaust, General repairs & maintenance, Auto engine diagnostic, Engine repair, Battery, Oil change

I've take my car there three times. All three times the service has been quality and prompt, Craig has been very honest and up front, and the price has been very reasonable. Today he talked with me on the phone and recommended taking it to a different type of place - only an honest business turns down potential customers in the interest of trying to serve their customers. I have nothing but good to say about Charvats.

These guys are great! Craig is very friendly and easy to work with, has good communication and always makes sure to give me accurate estimates before they go ahead with making repairs. Most of the time they have same day turn-around, depending on the repair and parts needed of course.

Best mechanic shop in Grand Rapids. They have always been able to fix any problem I have within the day and truly care about their customers. Will be a life long customer. Jim & Craig & Chris do AMAZING work. You will not be disappointed with the work they do. They do not try to up sell you like the dealership does. They tell you what you need done and they fix it.

Jim Charvat and the people working at his shop are the real deal -- honest, hard working, and they can fix pretty much any mechanical issue with any make or model vehicle. He kept my old Jeep running well past its prime, and he even takes care of our Mercedes from time to time, partnering with other shops in town in the rare case he doesn't have the specialized parts or equipment. Pricing is always fair, and when Craig answers the phone, makes our appointment, or takes our keys we know we're going to get good advice and service. They really need to get a website. :) Highly recommended.

Great communication, didn't try to over sell! They held true to their schedule, and more than fair pricing. Jim, Craig and crew are ol' school honest mechanics, I've done business with for 25+ years!!! Thank guys.

Most shops just want your money! They want to help! They are always fair and honest, letting you know what can wait or how to get the job done for less! I've gone to them for 10 years and every single time I've had to go to someone else because it's an issue beyond what they can do, I always feel like I'm being screwed and treated like a $ sign! The best shop in GR hands down!

This is THE place to get your vehicle fixed for the lowest cost. For over twenty years Mr. Charvat and his team have always taken care of our domestic and foreign vehicles for the lowest cost in the least amount of time. Believe me, they know how to pinch a penny, which is what I want when it comes to keeping a vehicle on the road. Great Job Guys!

My Dad had his vehicles serviced there and I worked there for a few years. Jim Charvat is a good guy. It will be a loss to the industry and the local community when he stops wrenching.

Absolutely love this place. These guys are geniuses under the hood and my wife and I take both of our cars here. If you like overpaying and dealing with horrible customer service, don't come here. They just replaced my headlight for free!! A+

They told me the best option was to scrap my vehicle. Then magically, the day my vehicle was going to be scrapped (by a person Charvat's recommended me), the battery was stolen from my car! What a weird coincidence.
