Had my 1995 F150 in there for a new flywheel. They worked through some issues involved, informed me all the way through, and even took care of a belt issue I had for a very reasonable price. Great guys up there. Much appreciated.

I'm very disappointed they told me I needed a trans , $5,200 I took it & got a second opinion ,the other shop not only told me what was wrong but they put it up on a hoist & checked & fixed the problem for 90% less, I've been told this was a Christian place I've came more than once, first time being almost done wrong, I sense they didn't check my truck so they just told me anything , after having it for 2 days this one of my work trucks ,I'll pray for them to get some integrity. I'm not mad disappointed. " 1/18/24 Update I went to another shop, and the noise wasn't my Trans. It was my new caytilac converter , making the noise so they were going to charge me to fix something that wasn't needed. Get a second opinion people !

Day after christmas 2023 brought my daughters 2006 Taurus in on recommendation of longtime mechanic who thought our issue might be transmission issues..had it towed there.Was told they backed up but they'd try to squeeze in. Told them daughter needed back for college...to please do best they could. They provided no followup then kept car for over 2 wks. Then, when they finally got to it, no transmission issue...minor tune up....plugs, wires, coil...I was charged over $500 for parts and labor that could have been done for half as much...PLUS, discovered later that mechanic left several wires disconnected....sadly, concerned more with quick in and out then really caring about customer. Is this how you want your vehicle cared for. Very disappointing...one visit and no more planned. So much for highly recommended. Make your own choice. I have...we all have multiple vehicles so we can afford to leave it with it with these folks for 2 solid wks.....right ???....wrong.

Honest and fair the main things you look for in a shop. This is the place to go for transmission issues.. the staff is very nice and knowledgeable. Thank you for everything guys

Neil has been the most honest and reliable shop owner I ve ever dealt with between the knowledge of my exact issue and Recommendations as well. The staff was pleasant to work with as well, very welcoming. My transmission was taken care of hassle free and on time, even quicker than anticipated and the outcome is exactly as promised. Will speak greatly of the work done here and anyone with similar issues shouldn t look past.Service: Transmission

I had Independent Transmission upgrade my 1992 Mustang from the "factory defect" stock 2.73 final drive ratio to a 3.73 ratio. They did a great job, got the work done quickly, and the car works great. I also had some brake work and then one drum was overheating. They took the car back in and rooted out and fixed the problem (an out of round new drum). Even though it was a defective new part and not their fault, they did not charge me to fix it. They were not satisfied until they had my car right. My impression is that Independent Transmission is an honest and competent shop.

I highly recommend Independent Transmissions for your next automotive repair. They took great care of my 1988 Jeep Wrangler. It initially went to Independent Transmissions to fix the manual transmission that another shop was unable to correct. The technician's there were able to diagnose the issue and corrected the problem quickly. They also went over and above to help in fixing an electrical issue and replacing both rear axles when the drives side suddenly snapped.A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone at Independent Transmissions!!Services: Transmission, Electrical repair, Brakes

TRUST AND BELIEVE when I say this is worth the read, save yourself a nightmare!!!!!Negative stars.This place is a scam!!!!!!!I am so dissapointed and surprised, others deserve to know and take their business to somebody that is actually going to conduct proper business. Which is I pay you your desired amount, you honestly and properly service me. SUPER *SKETCHY*!!!I do my best to be a fair and kind person. I truly gave these people the benefit of the doubt. With that being said-*****Do NOT take your vehicle here*****I am so profoundly disgusted with this place, the owner, Neal, atta be ASHAMED!!!!I am a hard working young person who is struggling to get by- I had been needing to get a leak coming from one one of the hoses connecting to my antifreeze/coolant fixed. Very long story made short. I was blatantly SCAMMED out of $650.I actually did not have the full funds, so my father who is also struggling financially, paid for the majority of it which really means a lot to me, we paid IN CASH, IN FULL. Unfortunately after leaving my vehicle with this place that considers itself a sad and pathetic excuse for a business for almost 36 hours, and thereafter waiting in the lobby for an additional 4 hours because the part came in late I walked in at around 2:15pm, I didn t leave for the FIRST time that evening until roughly 5:30pm, BUT WAIT! It gets WORSE!!!! I get onto telegraph .I wasn t driving even 3 minutes and my car told me to pull over immediately due to the SAME EXACT PROBLEM THAT I BROUGHT IT TO THEM TO FIX FOR $650 ????? When I called immediately, I was calm and pleasant. Things happen and I understand that. I was patient and not difficult by any means. I was told to bring it back right away, so I did. And when I did, a very unpleasant VERY young technician that was working on it initially, told me to take my bag out of the car because he was going to take if for a drive? So I took my bag out of the car and waited almost 40 minutes for this young man to bring me my car back- he took so long that the owner called this boy in front of my face as it was going on 6:15pm at this point, and said on the phone to him verbatim Where you at? You alright?? . He ironically came back within minutes of the owner calling to inquire his whereabouts. The guy didn t say a word to me after driving for almost a full hour with my car and just dangled the keys in front of me as if to say take them . No explanation as to why for the 36 hours my car was present on their premises, why the problem I paid for wasn t fixed properly during that large chunk of time .but when my car was taken for a joy ride for 40 min and 35 miles was juiced out of my tank from his unexplained/longer than reasonable ride. I got in to FINALLY go home, and the grand finale is that the coolant was YET AGAIN LOW .& THEN, I notice that my radio consul was disconnected from my radio screen????? And my driver seat headlight is COMPLETELY LOOSE????? Did this guy get into an accident while he was driving my car? Did he get frustrated and take out my radio consul? So bizarre and disappointing. This place is an absolute garbage dump, if you want to get scammed by modern day auto con artists, then this is the place for you! Don t ever say nobody left an honest review!A BIG OL NO THANK YOU!PS- this is a reply to Neil's response to my review-When people come in and pay you money and you lie and say you fix the problem. No matter what you reply to try to suggest that you are "reputable" person and establishment- it just doesn't work sir. You're truly a fraudulent individual- PAUL even looked at the car after you "fixed it" and profusely apologized for ever sending me to you and said that he was "flabbergasted" when he looked under the hood of my vehicle & saw what the young man that worked on my car did/lack thereof.Paul, your OLD bud.*You know the man is not reputable when not only did he lose a customer- but friends that initially recommended him*We wish you honesty + lack of fraudulent activity towards hard working people in your days ahead.

Just like most Transmission shops...will only offer a full rebuild...even if you're a mechanic and know there's just one bad part that could be replaced in a short time but you don't have the specialty tools to do it yourself

Sold me a Ford Taurus in great condition - my first car! Did extreme amounts of work on 2 of my other cars, altogether ive had great experiences with Independent Transmissions!Update: On top of previous review I wanna state that independent transmissions are honest kind and very intelligent people and cam recommend a better mechanic around!!

Do not go to this place. They use cheap parts. The repairs/parts I had should have lasted at least 5 years according to the shop I had to go to to replace their cheap parts.They replaced my drive shaft in 2020 and not even a year later it went bad. In 2021 I took it back up there and they said it wasn't the drive shaft it was the differential bushing which was $572.08 total. Got it back and it was still doing the same thing. Took it to 2 other shops and they both said it was the drive shaft. Now at this point I'm confused because Independent Transmission just told me that wasn't it. So I took it to a 3rd shop and they again agreed it was the drive shaft and they used cheap parts. Coincidentally, they knew the owner and he gave them a call to fix it right. So after 3 weeks of stressing and trying to figure out what's wrong with my car, it was the drive shaft all along that they did not want to replace/fix. Problem finally solved, or so I thought.Now here it is 2022 and the drive shaft that they put on seized which caused the other parts on my car to go bad. Now I'm out of $2,220 plus what I paid them for the same part!Further, the upper and lower ball joints I got replaced in 2020 (driver) and 2021 (passenger) are already bad! Ridiculous!

They're they're pretty good I used to use them back in the days they took care of my 1500 pretty good Silverado service . My boy got around transfer case out I wonder what it's going to cost my best friend Sean Pita. I was kicking it with the owners dad from back in the days it was good to see him thank you independent.

My transmission went out in my car. They came and towed my car (Telway towing) The man that came and towed my car was soo nice and understanding. He towed my car in on a Tuesday morning and Independent Transmission looked at my car and ruled out it was my Transmission that needed to be replaced. They looked at my car, ordered the Transmission and had it replaced in 6 days!! They are absolutely amazing! I would recommend them to anyone who needs work done!! I will be back for other services!!!

Highly recommend Independent Transmission. My Jeep Wrangler was having trouble shifting. I took it to a mechanic close to my home who ran some tests and said that I needed a new transmission which would ve cost over $5,500. I opted to get a second opinion and I m very glad I did. I took it to Independent and they identified the problem was some thing FAR less expensive and had my car back to me in a day. I will gladly refer them and use them if needed in the future.Services: Transmission, Auto engine diagnostic

My 1971 Corvette was having transmission problems and my regular mechanic referred me to Independent Transmission. I was nervous at first going to a new shop but Barb, Neil, and Steve took great care of me and my car. The technician, Junior, did a superb job and explained everything he did to me without hesitation. Independent Transmission is a top quality place!Services: Transmission, Transmission repair

The measure of a great customer experience isn't just when things go right but also when things go wrong. My Jeep's manual clutch was replaced by Independent Transmission but unexpectedly failed under 100 miles later. Instead of blaming the customer or finding other reasons for the failure at my expense, they replaced it again at no charge. Yes it was a pain to have to leave my car with them again for a few days but it could've been a lot worse. Don't hesitate to use them; fair, honest and competent.Service: Transmission

Barbara is amazing as is Neil and everyone there! They make my dad and I feel like family and are so very helpful and honest. They are very quick and very good at what they do! Been coming here for years, they have had every car from every family member and at least 2 of my own. I recommend them for your car needs! Best in Redford/Detroit!

My experience at this shop was wonderful. They got my car on a Thursday and it was finished Friday afternoon. As a woman, I have frequently experienced men at car shops talking down to me or trying to sell me extra services that are not needed. That was not the case here! Everyone I spoke to at Independent was extremely respectful and clearly explained what was going on with my car so I understood. The price I paid was also $700 less than another shop quoted me for the repair. I really appreciate not only the good service but the respect with which I was treated. Thank you!!

Had my transmission replaced on my Taurus. Had a minor issue post repair, and they fixed it, no questions asked. I later found out they had to completely remove the transmission a second time to resolve the issue.Charged a really reasonable price and they completely stand behind their work. The car has been working absolutely great since and I've put over 50k miles on the car.

I shopped around for months, looking for a place that just felt right for taking care of my Jeeps transmission problem. I decided to take a chance on Independent based off the great reviews I've seen. Immediately my cars problem was diagnosed and they began working on it quickly. They did a brief run through of my other problem areas to inform me but kept the work on what I definitely needed. The quote was more reasonable than other shops I inquired at. They also had me come back to double and triple check their work so that I could roll without worry. I waited a week to put some miles on my car and let the elements fester to see if the work held up and i can say for sure that Independent has made a return customer out of me!

Above and beyond to properly diagnose a problem and fix it right, the 1st time - thank you!I took both my cars in, on two separate occasions, to (1) fix my screwup [they picked up my truck because I couldn t put it back together] and (2) fix a problem on my car I miss-diagnosed and their fix was cheaper then my requested fix and their fix was the correct fix - so very grateful.I did my own transmission maintenance on the truck and it no longer drove. They towed it and called me back to inform me I didn t add enough transmission fluid. Simple fix and they didn t fix what wasn t necessary.My car would lose power while driving and I assumed the trans was slipping; I was preparing to pay for a transmission rebuild. However, diagnosed the problem to a bad fuel pump that caused my lose of power. They were 100% correct AND the fuel pump was cheaper than a rebuilding my transmission. Again, so very grateful for fixing the actual problem.Services: Transmission, General repairs & maintenance

When my transmission went out over a year ago I did a comprehensive Web search for the best shops in my area. I cross referenced several websites and over and over again Independent and one other shop came up. I went and spoke with several shops including these 2. Neil took the time to explain in depth what this job involved and what made his shop different. Upon inspection they also found that my drive axle also needed major work. His shop did the job on budget & on schedule. Not only has the trans been great every since. Independent has done every major job on it since. After several jobs (yes my truck is aging) I had an issue with some work. Neil, personally stopped what he was doing. Took the truck out, test drove it and fixed it himself on the spot! Would trust these guys 100 percent, they rebuilt the trans in my 2002 explorer a little over a year ago and it's like new, and they stand by their warranty which is 2 years, Neil is a great guy and knows his stuff.

My first experience with Independent Transmission of Michigan, Inc. was more than 15 years ago. The team rebuilt/replaced a transmission. The work was superb. The company has been my preference for out of new-car warranty work since then.My recent experience was to replace the left coil that broke while I was in the car. Again, the work was excellent. About four months later, I discovered that I my front tires need alignment. I took the car back to Independent Transmission, which I discovered does not do alignments. However, the owner decided that it was associated to the coil replacement. He sent me to Firestone and covered the charge.YES, I recommend Independent Transmission of Michigan for its outstanding work ethics and work. That has to be the reason it stays busy.

The gear shift on my manual transmission was sticky and difficult to get into gear. The dealer wanted to charge me $4000 for a new transmission, but Independent Trans got me back on the road in an hour for less than $100. Even better, the technician took the time to explain in clear detail what the problem was and how he had fixed it. Awesome people, highly recommended!

This is a BBB rated business been around more than 40 yrs. Honesty is one of many character traits the owners have. I had my car work done here years ago, I recommend it if you need transmission work done
