If you were worried about the upgrade you can rest your fears. The store is largely the same but has a number of upgrades. Better fridges and better contents.Ally s will still be our go to for a quick cup of coffee, any random home goods, and eggs or milk without driving all the way to cronigs or chilmark store

Small general store that has been serving the community since 1858. Has a surprising amount of gluten free groceries.

Saw the fun flags and welcoming windows and decided to stop- SO glad we did!!! This store literally has everything you could need!!! Local souvenirs, frozen food, cheese, hammers and kitty litter!! Everything! Super friendly staff is the cherry on too- complete with a pizza recommendation (Edgartown Pizza- which was spot on- thank you!)

This used to be a favorite of mine. Now there is a totally new layout and new merchandise. The stuff here now is mostly practical and not much fun. It used to be that I could come here and find the most random and fun things. It was always an adventure. I'm super disappointed, and I dont think I want to come back.

This spot has everything you need to get your vacation started, vegan stuff too. I also bought a book and fresh bread. In addition, it has a sweet shop and toys for kids.

I love this "old fashioned" general store. There is something for everyone here. I go every chance I get and I always find something unique. Great place to shop for gifts as well.

Due to being the only "grocery store" before you get to Chilmark, it's obviously expensive. It's also handy, well stocked and friendly. They sell cigarettes, have rocking greeting cards. The old floors should be watched for but don't complain, they're one of the last aspects of the old Alley's. There was once a long counter where most food was asked for off the tall shelves behind the server. You would go up and ask for sugar or flour which was packaged but one choice. Then your total was put on your bill. Ms. Alley was overworked and scary for children. As a teen I would beg to be taken down Quansoo road to their general delivery and finally I married the last one! There was a lot more hardware and very few touristy items. It was a true general store, with a scale out front which gave you a fortune. No cellphones so you went to the bank of 4 payphones in front of the old Agricultural Hall. "Back Alley's" (the name changes but we just stick with that one) was a laundromat. Yes before the ostentatious McMansion crowd. But despite various owners for better or worse, it stands.Forget going in with a wheelchair, you would be trapped next to the newspapers and candy.

New management has ruined Alley's. It used to be charmingly jam-packed with fun and eclectic stuff. It's been stripped of all that; the store is a shadow of its former self. It's super pricey and looks like it's been redesigned by a a bunch of Brooklyn millennials . Clearly I am not the only one who thinks so. To wit: No one is hanging out on the porch anymore.

Had a great experience today. I was short $1. The cashier handled it and said "we take care of our people at Ally's." I appreciated his kindness; thank you.

Really neat shop in West Tisbury on the Vineyard that is a great representation of an old general store. They carry almost anything you'd need, short of tires for your car. Friendly staff and fun knick knacks to browse through if you're in the area and waiting for a bus.
