Any Martha's Vineyard auto repair is increasingly expensive and relegated to a service for the wealthy as labor and real estate drive up prices beyond the reach of ordinary mortals.So I will not punish this shop, or any other on-island service, for high prices... as frustrating as the situation may be for everybody involved.That given, MV Autoworks managed to service our car (a full front assembly replacement & engine mount repair on an unreasonably old Volvo not designed for MV roads) when nobody else could/would due to a lack of availability. Four other shops declined.Availability was formerly an issue in July/August and now can be a problem well into November and December. Mid-Nov in this case. My brother now takes his cars off-island for repair and I'd have done the same if I had the time and it was not a potential safety issue to drive the vehicle.MV Autoworks did it quickly (a couple of weeks) and exceeded my expectations when other shops couldn't even look at it.I should note some credit to Auto Europa for solid / honest advice & assist even though they couldn't take it. They made an effort and I appreciated that.I'm sure I paid considerably more than what an off-island repair would cost. But then, a tow off island can cost $1,500 so, well, we'll call it a Martha's Vineyard Auto (not "Autoworks" per se) tax.Ultimately, I was pleased with the rapid and professional service -- especially since the alternative was no service at all.The on-island bar for auto repair is low so don't expect miracles. Be happy when it gets done in a reasonable time and expect to pay a premium.In this case, it got done quickly and I likely paid a premium - no complaints.

May husband Bill and I have been regular customers at MV Autoworks for over 10 years. They have successfully kept our older vehicles in excellent operating condition. The service has always been prompt, curteous and highly professional. Always a pleasant experience for us to drop cars on appointment day and know they will call when it s completed. The job is clearly listed ,and explained to us. We have been using MV Autoworks for years now and wouldn't change for anything. We started with our 1990 Geo Tracker and have continued with our Ford F150 both the old one and the new one and both our Chrysler Town and Country Vans. The people are professional, timely and extremely courteous in all aspects of our business with them. I tried several other car care places on the Island before finding MV Autoworks but now I wouldn't dream of going elsewhere. They are always nice to work with and very honest about what your car needs and what it will cost. Also, they somehow find the time to do what you need to have done when you need it. I really appreciate the opportunity of a ride home when I need to leave off my car. Great place.

I continue to take my three older cars here, because the work gets done professionally. My last problem was that my battery didn't hold a charge. I had a new battery, and they had recently replaced a faulty alternator. I had them look for an electrical leak for me. They found that there was no leak, but that the battery was no good. They had NAPA replace the battery under warrantee, at no charge to me (except for their reasonable service charge), and my 2000 Solara runs beautifully again.

This year I started taking all our cars to MV Autoworks, a motley collection of old classics and newer cars. I have gotten efficient, no-nonsense service. They even went out of their way to try a simple solution to a problem first and only after that did not hold for long, did they recommend the more expensive solution. That is an unusual trait these days for an auto mechanic shop.Services: Exhaust, Wheel alignment, Oil change

MV Autoworks has saved me and my Jeep on more than one occasion. I have never had one complaint, nor had to go back to them because something wasn't fixed right the first time. What I like about MV Autoworks is that they don't talk down to me because I am a girl! They provide me with the same descriptive diagnosis (careful what you wish for!) and courteous service as the guys. I've been satisfied with the work they have done.

MV Autoworks is an outstanding place to bring your vehicle for service, repair, and bodywork. They are efficient, timely, friendly, helpful, and most importantly trustworthy. I have used many auto service establishments in my years, but these guys are the top of the list. Outstanding!

The Friday evening before Labor Day Weekend, the electronics in our car suddenly malfunctioned. I left a message on Angel's answering machine, not expecting to hear from him until his shop reopened on Tuesday. Instead, he called us early Saturday morning, advising us to have our car towed as soon as AAA could do so. He then advised us on how to get a rental car in the meantime, in spite of the online listing that no cars were available. (Thank you, Kyle, at Budget Rentals!) Angel worked on our car with a dedication rarely seen by our mechanics in NJ, and he saved our vacation. He repaired the car, and we could drive home. But aside from his mastery of auto repairs, we were extremely impressed with Angel's dedication, friendliness, and availability.

Our car would not start when we were waiting for the MV ferry in Woods Hole, having come from New Jersey on our annual family vacation. With three jumps we were able to make it to our house on the island, having been told told we likely had a bad alternator. We called MV Auto Works Monday and reached Angel there at 7:00 AM, before their published hours. He readily agreed to take us when I explained our situation notwithstanding a full appointment schedule and a mechanic out ill. Our car was towed there immediately, and was fully diagnosed and repaired by the following morning, rescuing our vacation. Moreover, their analysis disclosed that we only needed a new battery, far less expensive a repair than we expected. Angel lived up to his name! Well done!

We were on vacation when one of our cars broke down - it was 2 days before we were supposed to leave to go home ... needless to say, it was a little stressful. I actually found MV Autoworks online and read reviews on different sites, including Yelp. We dropped the car off and expected it to take a couple of days for the estimate, but Angel got back to us the next morning. Upon Angel's review it was found that it needed a new motor. As such, we weren't prepared to make that kind of financial decision to fix the car at that point. Angel was gracious enough to let us leave the car there until we did (taking up valuable space in his yard). Unfortunately, we ultimately ended up salvaging the vehicle. Angel's patience with us while we were trying to decide what it is we were going to do, as well as his help with the salvaging process, proved MV Autoworks' exceptional rating. If I lived on island MV Autoworks would be my choice for a general mechanic hands down.

First diagnosis and repair of my issue was wrong and didn't fix the problem, but still cost me $1000. Second diagnosis and repair fixed it but they didn't reassemble the parts back correctly. Also, they advertise a 20% discount in every "Our Island Club" newsletter, but then would only give me a 15% discount when the bill was due.

Angel and his staff were great. Made it easy for a commuter to the Vineyard that comes once a week! Courtesy ride to the boat helped!
