Wish I found this place years ago. I ve wasted so much money elsewhere with no results for my commercial vehicles. The techs at SPG actually know what they are doing!! They aren t YouTube-it technicians like other shops. They re the real deal. Done right in one shot.Big thank you to the owner who called 30 minutes after I dropped the truck off. He was immediately able to tell me what was wrong with my vehicle. Very relieving to finally have my vehicle in safe working condition for my employees!

Incredibly kind and quick service. As a new MA resident I was unfamiliar with the inspection process. Billy made it easy and explained everything to me with patience. So glad I chose SPG and will definitely be back when I need any work done on my vehicle.Service: Vehicle InspectionService: Vehicle Inspection

I have been going to SPG for many, many years and have gotten top quality work done with mine and my wife's car. Every time i have a issue; they always give me the best advice. SAFETY is a top priority and the work done is top notch!I know I can always count on them for honesty and a fair price.

Walked in for an inspection sticker on my brand new car had a minimal wait time, and was ultimately in and out in minutes. The waiting area felt clean and sanitary, which is especially important in covid times and difficult for garages in general. Staff was very friendly and helpful!

Wish I saw the reviews before going to this place. Similar inspection experience. They claimed my bumper was "falling off" but it was no where close. It had already been inspected in the same condition. The side part was sticking out but it was still completely attached. They said to "call the registry"... I went to a place down the street and passed with flying colors. Look else where than these crooks.

Was passing by this so called "service station" for 7 years and never saw any meaningful business there. Today I've decided to give them a chance and stopped by for the inspection sticker. "Inspection station" turned out to be a "Rejection Station". Two "wizards" started to tell me that I am about to loose my front wheels, that front end is about to fall off etc. Jees, first off any half-witted, technically inclined person knows that wheels fly off cars only if the ball joints snaps. Secondly, it happens to be that my vehicle received new upper and lower ball joints a year ago. I went to an independent mechanic after leaving and asked to check my ballpoints and tie rods - report came out satisfactory, though there is a small play in the bearing on one wheel, but not to warrant the "rejection" of the sticker. Thirdly, this is "7D Official Inspection Station" which means they inspect buses and vans transporting kids - I saw owner smoking in and around the bus which transport special needs kids. Not only that, he smokes in the shop around gas and other highly explosive substances. I guess the only way they draw business by rejecting Inspection Stickers and selling right away goods and services to unsuspecting consumers. Stay away from these crooks as far as you can!

Firstly, I brought my car in for a water pump about 2 years ago, and they did a great job. Pretty affordable, too. More recently I brought it in for a front end noise. I have some suggestions on things to check, but in my diagnosis, they seemed OK (25 years of wrenching). Ultimately they replaced both front wheel bearings, and told me my brakes were in need of replacement. I inspected the brakes less than 6 months prior and they looked amazing. Whatever. I green lit the work. 1600 dollars later, my car sounds terrible. The front end noise is worse (since it turned out to be the control arm links, not the wheel bearings) and the brakes squeak incredibly loud, whenever they're cold, or hot. Cheap Chinese pads. Very disappointed with the work. Feels like I've been scammed.Services: Steering & suspension repair, General repairs & maintenance, Brakes

I stopped by real quick to get a sticker for my new (to me) SUV. It was $35 & they only took cash at the time (so u should prob plan ahead & stop at the ATM). They took my car right in & I went across the street to check out the Family Dollar Store. I left my number with the mechanic so he could call me with any questions. A half hour later I walked back & my car was parked with a new sticker afixed. The receipt & report were on the passenger seat & my keys were on the counter. It was super convenient all the way around. I can comfortably recommend SPG for your inspection sticker if u need one.

I have been going to SpG for about 6 years now and this is the only place I trust to get work done on any of my vehicles. Trustworthy, honest, straight-forward diagnosis. Very knowledgeable and they always get the job done in a timely manner. I would highly recommend SpG service to anyone to have work done on their vehicles.

Quoted a price over the phone, then told 100$ more once I went to go pick it up. Didnt have proof so was forced to pay the extra and the problem wasn't even solved.

While Fiona is a much-loved and appreciated member of the family, this 2008 Honda Fit is a gigantic PITA, and has been since I bought her. She has been serviced by SPG Automotive Repair at 135 Canal Street in Salem for a few years. The current Fiona situation is too long and boring to describe, but in short, Gene and his crew at SPG did close to $1,000 of work to her today and didn't charge me a dime. This is not the first time he has not charged me for work he had done previously due to lousy parts from the distributor, otherwise waranteed work, or out of the kindness of his heart.I cannot speak highly enough of Gene and the guys at SPG.Services: Transmission, Carburetor cleaning, Electrical repair, Air & cabin filter replacement, Exhaust, Tires, Auto battery replacement, Auto power window repair, Steering & suspension repair, Auto exhaust system repair, Auto water leak repair, General repairs & maintenance, Steering & suspension replacement, Auto A/C recharge, Electrical, Auto engine diagnostic, Body & Trim, Auto brake repair, Tire rotations, Engine repair, Vehicle Inspection, Transmission replacement, Side view mirror repair, Auto A/C replacement, Auto exhaust system replacement, Wheel alignment, Transmission repair, Brakes, Auto battery maintenance, Auto tire replacement, A/C installation & repair, Auto emissions testing, Air conditioning, Vehicle safety inspection, Wiper blade installation, Auto maintenance, Auto brake replacement, Battery, Oil change

The five stars are not about the price, but level of service. Right up front, I'll admit that their prices are on the high end, especially for parts, but the folks at SPG are good mechanics, thorough, experienced, and honest. Gene's a solid cat. They never start a job without approval, and their recommendations are fair. I'm a pretty car-savvy Gen X-er, which means I can fix my car myself when I have the time, and I've never had to "call BS" on these guys' recommendations. At SPG, at least I know that the work is done and done right.

Went in for new brakes, rotors, calipers, state inspection, rear shocks, oil change and serpentine belt. Professional service, no frills/hassle. Prices are a little above average for parts, but not crazy. No appointment necessary, very clean shop, and building. Work was done on time and as stated. Gene called to confirm the price before work was done. Overall a good experience.Services: Air & cabin filter replacement, Steering & suspension repair, Brakes, Oil change

This is the most lovely car repair experience! SPG are old fashioned professional with modern speed and know-how. I had a 2005 exhaust system efficiently repaired and am returning to have a few mechanical issues looked at because I had such a great time. It s good to see the work you re paying for definitely being done with care and attention to detail.Services: Exhaust, General repairs & maintenance

I was referred to SPG from another repair shop that did not have any time available. I called SPG on a Friday, and was able to drop my truck off that Monday. Straight to the point. Seems like the know what they are doing. I would bring my truck there again. No question..... Update: still was having issues with my truck. Had to take it back in. They did what needed to be done, which included front and rear brakes. My only complaint is my brakes squeak all the time now! Kind of annoying!

Best State Inspection Ever!Showed up 20-25 minutes before closing on a hot Aug. afternoon for a State Inspection. Was greeted within seconds, asked if I could still get an inspection and before I knew it I had paid and my car was whisked off to the garage. Said it would be about 15 minutes so I had a seat. I don t think I got through reading a couple of emails before he comes back out, announces that I m all set and I as I look out front my car is being backed in and waiting for me (for easier exit onto busy Canal St.). Wow! Recommend SPG Automotive big time.

I was in the car repair business for decades and I had the pleasure of working with Jim Dawe at another shop. Jim left that shop to come here. He is the best tech Ive ever worked with and I trust him to to fix my vehicle. Hes the reason I came here the first time with a serious problem I could not diagnose on my own. He got it right the first time no BS and the price was reasonable. The owner is great to deal with. Im coming from Gloucester so its a hike but thats how much I trust these guys.

We were visiting from out of state and experienced a major CV joint issue with a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe. We would not have been able to drive the 4+ hour trip home if not for Gene and SPG Auto. We called on a Wednesday morning at 8:00 AM, brought the car in within two hours and within another hour Gene and his team had diagnosed and had a quote for the vehicle's repairs. By 3:00 PM, the car was back in our possession. Speedy, honest, reliable. We couldn't say more about the work that was done. Thanks, SPG!

Had the same experience here. Rejected my truck. Explained to the owner a bad experience I had a few years ago at another auto repair shop. That did work before they got my approval. Well, guess what happened. He was to give me an estimate. He repaired it without my approval. I was willing to pay a reasonable repair cost. So I compared online cost. He was $350 over the average. He got angry because I questioned him. He then threw the receipt at me. Telling me to leave. I actually had cash in hand, I did as he requested. Then he stopped me in his parking lot. Attacking me verbally. I asked him if he actually heard what had I told him when I first came in. Blame yourself dude. I don t pay for what I don t approve, I get different quotes first. It s called price comparison.
