Reliable Honest Mechanic. Local Small Business.I have trusted John and J&R with my family vehicle maintenance and repair for the better part of 10 years. If you are looking for a mechanic shop to work with and want reliable, consistent, fair pricing, timely service and honest opinions this is the place. Quality work, not perfect sometimes but will always work to make it right in the end. If you re moving to Lowell this is a great shop.

Best shop ever in every way possible. I ve been going to John for a couple years now and would never go anywhere else. He is honest, respectful, and fair. Like a lot of people, I know a little about cars, but not enough to fix my own. I 100% trust John with everything and am so happy I found him. If you re in the area (or not) you will NOT find a better mechanic.

John has been servicing my car for the last couple years since I moved to the area. He was highly recommended by a friend. The service is awesome and the pricing is fair for the work he does. I've also called with car "emergencies" and John is always available for advice or to drive it around the block with me to listen to all the noises I hear. :) He gives me the most cost effective fix and doesn't try to push me into a repair that is unnecessary like some other garages in the past. He even has a loaner if you are in a pinch. Easy to deal with and just generally a nice guy!

John at J&R Auto has been a pleasure to work with. My car had some very unusual issues that he was able to diagnose and repair. There were several roadblocks along the way and John was very professional and reasonable in working through the issues with me. The prices were fair and reasonable, information and communication were consistent throughout the process. I travel for work and broke down near these guys in Chelmsford. These guys are amazing! Fantastic service! Got me in on short notice,repairs fairly priced. Honest and super helpful! I had an excellent time using J&R Auto Repair. They listened to me explain all of the various symptoms of my car, suggested a couple of possible root causes, and got to work on my car right away. The work was completed quickly and for a fair price. While they were working on my car they noted maintenance items that I might need to do in the near future but didn't push to do anything that was unnecessary. Having an idea of future work allows me to better budget for the next time I bring my car in. I really enjoyed my experience and I intend to use them for my future work on my car.Service: A/C installation & repair

This garage is a total joke!They did not do any of the work we were charged for - after having the car for over a month, they charged us over $2,000.00 and we could not even drive the car!They caused so much damage to our vehicle and made several so called repairs" that we we were not informed about ahead of time - Which ultimately cost us thousands more to repair their errors by a professional mechanic- Our advice- Stay away!!!Owner claims in his response that is not how he does business but I beg to differ on that he in fact did this and no amount of apologies or contrition changes that so. You screw up the first time but will never get any calls or another shot at it! Treat every customer like gold. It was repaired in 4 days by another shop.Service: General repairs & maintenance

Just showed up with my car John was amazing listened to my concerns told me he wouldn t be able to look at the car until the next day because it was still hot (car was over heating) he called me 30 mins after I left and told me he went out just to take a look to see if he could see what was going on he found the problem told me he would have my car ready by noon time the next day he called me at 9:30am and my car was ready he was even Welling to pick me up to retrieve my car if I didn t have a ride and it cost a little less than what he quoted me !!! I would definitely bring my car back to him very easy to talk with and put my mind at ease with my cars issues.Service: Auto maintenance

John's been working on my cars for years, and he always does a great job and treats me with courtesy and respect. He and his mechanics are very honest and upfront, and his pricing is more than fair. I'm a high mileage driver, so I'm in frequently for oil changes. It always amazes me hearing him talking on the phone or in person with people who want service for free, and how he keeps his cool I'll never know.

Very honest, you won't be talked into getting service you don't need. Great at diagnosis. Fun to banter with them, they let you hang out in the shop while they work. John was very helpful in my finding a good used car that fit my budget. After inspecting 2 other cars that turned out to be duds, they provided me with a lead where I found my car. 2 years and 30,000 miles later no problems yet, just normal maintenence.

Not sure how this place has so many good reviews. I brought my car into the shop because there a rattling and check engine light that I needed to get looked at. They told me they had to trouble shoot the issue and that it may be expensive, and then showed up with a $600 bill and said they still could not fix it. I brought it to another mechanic back home who found the leak in about 30 minutes, spent 25 dollars replacing the line and it was that simple. this is not a quality mechanic shop and I would definitely avoid bringing European motors here due to lack of knowledge despite advertisement.Service: Engine repair

I had a wonderful experience with John and his team. I was traveling alone with my two young children when the AC compressor started falling apart on my Nissan Quest. I Googled "mechanic near me" and J & R came up. Even though they were closing soon, John took the time to track down a new compressor and installed it quickly while we waited. As a woman, I am often "mansplained" about cars when I'm at a shop, but I never experienced this with John. I appreciated his honesty and his concern for me and my kids. I highly recommend this shop to anyone and especially women.

Wonderful experience with this fine shop and John is a great manager/mechanic and fine customer service rep too.He is also quite funny and engaging!I have had my car and my generator expertly serviced here and I dropped off the latter machine this AM in advance of a snowstorm without any expectation it could be fixed.I told John "It's OK if you can't get to it today. No worries."Well, he got to it today, knowing I might need it soon. Bad carb was replaced for a very affordable price.And John waited past closing for me to pick it up to make sure I would have it available if we lose power this weekend.Can't say enough good things about John and his shop. Will be happy to take my business here from now on! Five stars well deserved!

If you are looking for an honest, reliable service shop for your car, you need to bring it to J&R. I've used them for years and can tell you that John is always friendly, fair, and upfront about the work that needs to be done. They're service is speedy and their pricing is very good. the new location makes it even better! There's plenty of parking and it's easy to get in and out of. I only bring my vehicles to J &R. wouldn't think of anywhere else!

This is my 2nd time this year where I needed repairs on a car. John had me bring the car right down and I had it fixed and back on the road by the next day. Again the rates were excellent, what was quoted and no surprises! Friendly, prompt and affordable!!!

I'm at a loss for words. I have given this shop at least $3000+ over the past 5 years in repairs which were reasonable for my Saab. I've never real had a problem with them and they know who I am whenever I walk in. I referred my boyfriend to them for a coolant leak. He mentioned to the mechanic he was referred by me and the guy didn't seem to care. They checked out his car and my boyfriend felt the estimate was too high and declined. It was $500+ for a coolant hose assembly on an old Ford Taurus. That's a bit insane. Should only be about $250. According to my boyfriend, the head mechanic was obviously not happy with that. He started getting really pushy about getting the car off his lot and charged my boyfriend $25 to look at the leak anyway. If he didn't respect my boyfriend as a customer then he obviously has no respect for me. Never going back there again.

I've been taking my cars here for a few years now since moving to North Chelmsford. They've always done great work at fair prices. I would definitely recommend them.

I met John (and Adam) four years ago when I came over from Montana to deliver a car for a student. I knew I needed to find a mechanic I could rely on to help me help an automotively-challenged student take care of her car "from a distance", and I can definitively say that they have been fantastic to work with for 4 years running. I would say though, and this would apply to dealing with any shop, keep in mind that ultimately, your car's woes are **YOUR** problem--John isn't the one who decided to try and keep a 20 year old Subaru running in Massachusetts--that's on me.Services: Tires, Steering & suspension repair, Engine repair, Brakes, Air conditioning, Oil change

In the customer-facing business- You can't make every customer happy but you can at least try your best to ensure they are and thats what John does.John knows his job! he has worked on my car twice now and both times the jobs were done absolutely well and on time.The first time I changed all the tires, brakes and headlamps. While the second time, I replaced my rear shock absorbers.He is honest to a fault. If you need a mechanic in the Lowell area- Go see him and tell him Kennedy sent you. :)

Was referred here by another shop and would recommend anyone to bring their car here! People I interacted with here were very genuine and hard-working. They took the time to see my car the same day and answer any questions I had. Never felt like I couldn t trust them with my car throughout the process.

Very stand up guys here and great mechanics. Very happy that when I moved here from out of town that I was able to find this shop when I needed auto repairs. Only downside is that 5 stars is the highest rating I can offer because they consistently go above and beyond with their services, wish I could put in a 6th star here!

Horrible experience after contacting them for my washer system repair. I asked them how much it may cost to get the repair done. They replied that they need to check which is $75. I again asked for the range of price for the repair. They answered that they ll not work on my car and disconnected the phone. Not sure how did it offend them but the response was very rude. Unbelievable!

A bunch of fair and honest guys working here. I brought an old Mercedes here for a new car check. They looked at it and were very honest about what they found wrong with it. Saved me a lot of money in the long run. 5/5 I would recommend for honesty and overall nice guys

I was nothonv, but greatful that the owner was willing to look at my car when it broke down late Saturday night on a Sunday morning, but he constantly offended me over and over spoke down to me and was rude. I had been up all night dealing with my car issue I was exhausted and 6 months pregnant and o e of the first things he said to me was I looked bad and was I on something and then was asking why was I so far from home with my car and why was I up all night over it. He acted like my business was a gigantic inconvenience for him. He also told me he was 80% sure he could do the work, but then he couldn't do it with a used part that he went to go get. He really wanted my car off his property quickly and was very pushy about it. He also charged me 200 for diagnosing the problem as well as the part that cannot be used and acted like he was doing me a huge favor. No mechanic has ever charged me for these things if they cannot do the job or just a diagnosis. I cannot attest to their work, but I would never want to deal with this man again I felt very belittled, offended, and uncomfortable with how he treated me and spoke to me, while I was nothing, but polite and never said anything to him to deserve the treatment I recieved. Even when he tried to be polite it came off as everything is a huge inconvenience to him.

John and his staff has been very accommodating and thorough with my every day mechanical issues. Knowing the urgency of my problems, his staff has been easy to work with and his prices are very reasonable.
