We recently had our 4-Runner serviced here and were very happy with the level of expertise as well as the customer service we were provided. My car was pulling to the right after a dealer fixed our breaks. Not wanting to drive far to find out why, I pulled in after passing them for years. (I thought they were more of a crash fix situation....) I was pleasantly surprised by the level of detail I was given regarding our car's "diagnosis". We received options on our immediate replacement needs around the caliper, as well as what we could wait on with estimations on how long we could wait and what other repairs would be needed in the long term if they were not addressed. (I like knowing the whole picture so I can plan down the road.) Thank you! Our teenage son will be driving this car often, and now I can feel confident that it is safe.

Dropped my car off for routine service as scheduled. Took the train into Boston for an appointment. Picked up my vehicle on my scheduled return time. (It was ready earlier) I could not have received more convenient or better priced outstanding service anywhere in Newburyport!

A great local place. Used them to install tires ordered from Tire Rack and was super impressed with the process. Friendly, communicative about ANY potential issues, patient and super competent. Also impressive tech and balancing equipment. Now that my cars are aging out of their warranties, hoping to use them as often as I can.Service: Tires

High five for this repair shop and a SUPER high five For( I can't remember her name behind the counter )But boy, was she professional, kind and honest. We were headed out for a long weekend And an object off the highway hit our car from underneath and punctured our gas tank. She was able to find us a tank for a yr. 2000 car, Have it delivered, installed and had us back on our way within 24 hours before they closed for the weekend. Thank you so much

Kind, honest, and professional. My dealer told me my brakes were in the danger zone and needed replacing. I was suspicious. I did need new tires though. When I went to State Automotive repair to replace the tires I asked them to check on my brakes. They told me they were fine and safe and did not need replacing. They have earned my trust over and over. And, I love my new tires.Service: Tires

I cannot recommend State Automotive in Newburyport highly enough! I have used him through 4 cars and 10+ years! He has always kept our old jalopies running and safe and I have recommended him through the years to numerous friends.Here s the amenities Andrew provides when you take your car in: He gives you an appointment, you can drop your car off and safely drop your keys off before he opens, and you can safely pick up your keys and your car after hours too, he or one of his guys will give you a ride home if you need, he can provide you a loaner car if you ask (I can t count how many times those loaners saved us!), then he calls and gives an estimate AND provides a written copy of that estimate on a State Auto form via email.State Auto is also a GREAT place to buy a used car! Knowledgeable, friendly, and honest! Fast, reliable and economical (compare prices for other skilled mechanics!)Andrew and all the staff at State Auto are absolutely the best!If I could give him 10 stars, I would! My son bought a cool, all black Toyota Forerunner last year. He drove it to Florida and back, installed a lift kit on it, added an LED light bar, a grille guard, and other off-road accessories. This truck was a prize, until it stopped running. Since I've taken my Landrover here, I knew exactly where to take the Forerunner. Just like a dealership, I received a full breakdown of the repairs with costs and a timeline. I was relieved that they were able to split the repairs into two phases. Unfortunately, the truck needed a lot of safety-related repairs and I'm thankful my son was able to make it home from Florida. It feels so great to gift it back to him today, because I know he will be driving a safe vehicle for the rest of the winter - plus I get my Range Rover back! Andrew and the whole crew are always friendly, polite, honest and genuine. Having my car detailed recently was my first experience with State Automotive Repair. I could not have been happier! The staff was very friendly, extremely professional and very accommodating. The detailing was the best I've ever had on any car I've owned. I'll definitely go back again. We were so impressed that we set up an appointment for a 30K mile checkup for my wife's car. Five stars!

I brought my car here to be looked at. They were extremely organized, polite and efficient. I was able to get a loaner car right there and kept it until repairs were complete. I would recommend them to anyone I know.They keep you extremely involved and aware of what they feel is needed to be done. They us an app to send information, pictures and updates while working on your car. Was very pleased with there service.

Outstanding Honest Service. I, with a neighbors help, tried to "fix" my F150s air conditioning last week. I had nothing but problems. Screeching belts, bucking engine, Hot a/c. I screwed up! I asked around, and several people recommended State Automotive as being Honest and Good. I explained my woes to them, and dropped the truck off, fully expecting to lay down $1,000 for my mess up. I got video updates thru text as they diagnosed it. (who does that?) They kept me updated, and when I came to pick up my truck, it was only like $150. The A/C is cold and quiet They had me over the barrel and could have oversold the job, but they diagnosed it right the FIRST time and saved me a boatload of money! I now have an honest, fair Great mechanic. I can finally stop working on my own stuff. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!

I am doing some upgrades to my 2019 Toyota Tundra, I went to State Automotive and met with Andrew to discuss what I wanted to do. Andrew got together with his team and helped me design a plan and we've started. I am very pleased with the quality of work and how quickly it all came together. I will be moving all of my service needs and future upgrades to State Automotive.

After living in Melrose for years, I moved back to Newburyport. I normally service my Honda at my Honda dealership in Everett; they are excellent. Last month they were booked, and I needed a State Inspection pronto. Am very protective of my 2015 CR-Z, so I checked reviews of local car repair shops and was impressed with all I read about State Automotive. I called, a friendly woman immediately picked up the phone, she scheduled me for 8am the next day. I was impressed! Clean and orderly waiting area, respectful service, and on that freezing cold morning, the young woman from the counter gladly added air to my tires with the outside air pump. I was very impressed overall.

Is it possible to give more than 5 stars? My car starting breaking down en route from Maine back home to New York...on a summer Friday at 4:45pm! I got a quick fix at a place in Maine but the car acted up before out of the state. I just made it to friends near Newburyport late on a Friday night. State Automotive was one of only a few places open on a Saturday morning. The owner Andrew was patient and thorough. He was hoping the problem was small enough to get me on my way that Saturday but unfortunately it required parts to be ordered from 3 places. I was able to rent a car across the street. It took under Monday afternoon to fully assess the problem(s) which Andrew not only explained in all the detail I requested but sent photos of the damage too. He also willingly spoke with my car technician back in NY who said their work sounded good and the rates were reasonable. I was back to get it at 7am on Wednesday morning. Dana was so gracious and kind to be there ready with car when I was at the door at 6:58am. The State Automotive technician even stayed late on Tuesday to assure it would be ready for me. I got back to NY safe and sound.From beginning to end, they rocked it. If I lived locally, I'd definitely be a regular.

The team at State always reliably attends to all *necessary* maintenance and repair work. They track all the issues identified over time and follow up in subsequent visits.Work is done right the first time, every time.This quality and continuity of service and attention to detail has made me a regular customer.Loaner vehicles are available also, which would be a huge help when/if I needed it.Highly recommend State Automotive.Others mentioned they are very courteous, cost conscious, communicate well and explain issues clearly. I agree with all of that as well.

When my CD player conked out on my 2013 car, I called State Automotive Repair just to get information on cost to replace. Not only did Andrew take a sincere interest in helping me, he asked me to take a photo of the CD/radio player so he could know just what I needed. He made several calls to compare prices for me and got back to me promptly. I have never had such an avid interest in a car problem. I booked the replacement, and was totally satisfied with the result. There were no hidden costs and I was even given a loaner car for the duration. I would totally recommend this business to anyone. The woman in the office was also friendly and most helpful. Five-stars from me!

If you value honesty and quality service, then go to State Automotive. My husband and I have used State Automotive for almost nine years. I think what I appreciate most, is that there are generally no surprises; Andrew and his crew are very good at monitoring our cars and letting us know about the future maintenance to expect.

Andrew is the person you always wished you had taking care of your vehicle. We went to him for years when we lived in Newburyport, and our daughter even returned there after we'd all moved out of the area.I'm an engineer, so I can be a tough customer for a mechanic. Andrew's diagnoses are invariably sound. When he presents your options, he's super-clear about how urgent each item is safety-wise, how long you can hold off without causing other issues, and the range of possible fixes, including whether it's reasonable to use reconditioned parts vs buying new.Plus he's really nice. Never a speck of salesmanship. 100% trustworthy. My fave mechanic of all time.

Outstanding customer service! We were in a rush to get our Jeep repaired because of an upcoming trip. When a part we needed was providing difficult to find, Andrew went above and beyond scouring the country to find a dealer with the part. Installed trailer hitch I ordered on my Mustang. Beautiful job, on time, on price. Love working with these guys.New service July 2020, dropped off car for inspection. Impressed with how State has modified business to go contactless. Dropped off car. Paid via phone. Car sanitized waiting for me. Though I like seeing the team over there, this time, with the virus, it was great to be anti-social. Thanks for making me feel comfortable. Thumbs up.

We recently moved to Newburyport. When I found a nail in my tire State Automotive Repair was the closest, with good reviews. All well deserved. Everyone there was very helpful. They took my car in immediately, and when a new tire needed to be ordered the work was completed by the next morning. I will certainly be going to State Automotive Repair for my future service needs.

We've used State Automotive for many years and have always been really happy with the quality of service that we get. They work with you to get the repairs done on your schedule and for a reasonable price. I highly recommend State Automotive - the owner's name is Andrew and you can always count on him to explain any repair work honestly & patiently!

I ve been taking my car to State Automotive for over 6 years and have been very impressed both by the level of service and by the honesty of the owner (Andrew). One experience in particular sticks in my mind. During an oil change when my car was about 4 years old, Andrew noted that the car had a leak in the front differential housing. Although my 3-year bumper-to-bumper warranty had expired, Andrew said fixing the leak would be covered under the 5-year powertrain warranty and that I should get it fixed by the dealer rather than by his shop. I thought that showed a lot of integrity, and in fact I was able to get the leak fixed for free by the dealer. I would strongly recommend that anyone in the Newburyport area use State Automotive for their car maintenance.

I'm new to Newburyport and my 11 year old car (gulp) died. AAA recommended State Street Automotive and they couldn't have been more accommodating. Thankfully it was just the battery but I had them do an oil change & they thoroughly checked every inch. Within hours I was sent pictures & details of impending doom! I trust them. The staff was very courteous & the office very clean!
