John the owner is an honest professional who doesn't take shortcuts and is very knowledgeable about cars. He helped fix my brakes, and when I came in with an engine failure on my Lexus, he looked it over and gave me an estimate. We decided to proceed with the work of replacing the engine based on his thorough assessment and fair price. We are extremely satisfied with his quick work and open communication.

In your life you need your "people"...accountant, doctor, plumber...and yes, your mechanic. John has serviced just about all of my family's cars over the last 10 years, foreign and domestic and he gives you his honest opinion on when and how you should get things done. ALWAYS quotes the price before he does it and ALWAYS tells you how long it's going to take. I have even called to ask him questions when buying a car, and again, honest answers. Prices are totally reasonable and the last time I drove my car away, I swear it felt like a new car (it's not!). Can't recommend him more!

I found Catalano Automotive through a Google review and brought my car in to get a second opinion on a pricey repair the dealership was recommending. John and his team checked out what was going on and was able to provide a detailed diagnosis so I could understand what was and was not necessary. John did a great job of keeping in touch throughout the repairs and everything was wrapped up on time and on budget. I'm definitely going back and have already started to recommend them to friends and family. Keep up the great work!

After Muzi closed its doors, I no longer had a local dealership to service my Chevy Silverado -- I had an issue with my AC and took it to a service station in town to get it looked at -- after spending a few hundred dollars, the AC worked..... for about 10 minutes. Frustrated, I decided to try one more local spot before biting the bullet and bringing my truck to another dealer -- and I'm thankful that I did -- I called up Catalono Automotive Repair and spoke with John who cleared a spot for me the very next morning. I brought my truck in, John and team reviewed/examined the issue and were able to fix my AC in just a few short hours. Not only am I excited that my truck is fixed, but I am thrilled to find a trustworthy and dependable local business that takes the stress out of auto repair needs. John is just the sort of fella I like to work with straight talkin yet not overbearing. A honest evaluation of your issue is what you can expect, work done will be executed very well and you can count on John and his staff to go the extra yard. I have two vehicles a SUV and a sedan I have taken them them both to John and each time he did exactly what he said he was going to at what in my assessment is it very reasonable price. I get the impression that he takes his work very seriously and I have no doubt that I am in good hands with John.I picked up my Cadillac this morning and was delighted to find that they had washed it and vacuumed out the front seats. I really appreciate this kind of attention to detail these extra little things, as far as I'm concerned John Catalano automotive repair are my go-to for great service.*5 interactions all great, plainly the neg reviews should be disregarded.

Fantastic mechanic. John is super nice and very honest when it comes to what repairs are needed and what can wait. Prices are extremely reasonable, which I really appreciate as a student. I've gone to Catalano twice now and was happy with the result each time. My friend also went to have her struts replaced (a suggestion by another mechanic) and they said that her struts were fine for a few more years. When I brought my car to them for a lean bank code, they ran some tests and then let me know that, in their opinions, the root of the problem was benign and would probably be more expensive to fix than was worth it. For that reason, I recommend Catalano to all my friends.

My 05 Honda Element needed exhaust work, tires and some scheduled maintenance, (Valve clearance and the like). Catalano's did all of the work in one day and priced less than expected. They even threw in a few extras. I'll be back.Services: Exhaust, TiresServices: Exhaust, Tires

I had a more unusual problem with my car and John took the necessary time to diagnose it and come up with a solution. Needed to diagnose a check engine light and rough performance. Catalano was able to fit me into a tight schedule on short notice. I was able to drop the car off and he gave me a loaner car for the duration of the service. On the same day, I got a diagnosis and a fair quote. They were able to get my car finished the next day and running great. I highly recommend Catalano Auto Repair and would return for additional services in the future.

I had a very positive experience with Catalano Automotive Repair. I met with John to discuss my needs, he assessed my car quickly, quoted me a fair price and we set-up an appointment. I appreciated the quick, 1-day service and the ability to use a loaner vehicle while my car was being serviced. I'm a fairly new BMW owner and was nervous about getting the first major service on my car since I bought it, but I'm happy to say the experience was great and I had nothing to worry about. When I picked up my car I told John I hope I didn't have to see him again soon, but one thing is certain ... when I do need another repair Catalano Automotive Repair will be my first call!

Can not say enough about John and his work- honest, straightforward and priced fairly. I recently had my brakes checked and an oil change and he not only did flawless work at a great price, he even brought my car to my house (I live nearby)! Looks like I have found a great repair shop. If you're even thinking about bringing your car to John, I would not hesitate for a second. Great guy and great experience. You won't be sorry.

Good experience overall - the estimate and repairs were done professionally and quickly. They even gave us a loaner car for the night to get to and from daycare. Excellent service, will be back with our car in the future.

Update 7/9/2021:Since my last review two years ago I used Catalano's services a couple more times. Every time I was impressed by the quality of work, and how reasonable his rates were. Today I came to check on a tire - looked like it leaked. The dealer said that flat-run tires could not be fixed, and for a 4x4 cars all four needed to be replaced. The tech at Catalano looked it it, pull out the nail, fixed the tire, and charged just $30. These guys are amazing!****************Had brakes done. Done when promised, good quality work, reasonable prices (saved my $450 over the dealer's prices). Will come there again.

I am very glad to have found Catalano Auto repair. John is honest, reasonably priced and knowledgeable. He has been keeping two of our aging cars on the road for a few years now. He always presents you with what has to be done, what should be done and what will likely need to be repaired in the near future. He knows his business and uses OEM parts when it's the best decision and after market parts when money can be saved without risk. Great experience at Catalano Automotive! I initially brought my car to the dealer to address an issue with my exhaust. The dealer was going to charge me and arm and a leg just to diagnose the problem. Before committing to the repair at the dealer I asked some of my coworkers where they bring their car to get fixed. Multiple people recommended Catalano for the fix. They definitely stood up to their reputation. The service was quick, affordable and reliable. I will definitely go here in the future.

This review is long overdue. I can't say enough good things about John and Catalano Automotive Repair. My car was declared totaled last November after being rear-ended by a small school bus in NY. John performed a thorough inspection and advocated on my behalf to ensure that I received the best offer to repair my vehicle. He worked tirelessly to complete all the needed repairs to fix my car and I even profited from working with him. After he finished replacing my back bumper and trunk, he even cleaned up some old scratches on the sides of my car so it looks even nicer than when I brought it to the shop! Catalano Automotive Repair is by far the best car mechanic shop in the Needham greater area and I would recommend them to anyone who is seeking a fair and trustworthy mechanic!

I came across this shop, since it is very close to where we live, after a recent move. I have since used Catalano Automotive for my wife and daughter's cars. Both required some work due to deferred maintenance. But I found John very reasonable and thorough in his estimates of what needed to be done. And he did the repairs at a fair price. The quality of repairs is very good, since we did not experience any issues afterwards.I highly recommend this shop.

I love this shop because they are knowledgable, and most importantly honest. I was willing to pay $1100 for a strut job, but the owner insisted I did not unless it was absolutely necessary. He even helped me find the warranty agreement I had with jeep to see if it would be covered, then wrote a note describing his diagnosis for me to bring to Jeep since only they could cover the repairs under warranty. John could have easily gotten the money from me but was honest and went above and beyond to make sure I got the best deal for the best price. They do great service, efficiently, and for a reasonable price. 10/10 would recommend this place.

A place you can trust. He looks out for you and tries to help you where he can. John Catalano was able to fit me in on short notice, informed me about the next steps in detail, and followed through 100%. Despite COVID shortages, he turned around the car (brakes/rotors) promptly with very reasonable rates. I highly recommend this place to my family and friends.Services: Wheel alignment, Brakes

Catalano Automotive was recommended by our neighbor, and we could not be happier with the recommendation. As first time customers, we had an oil leak with our 2015 Ford Edge. John thoroughly looked into the issue instead of just replacing the oil plug and turning the vehicle over to us like other shops would do. He actually discovered that this was an ongoing issue with this make/model. John explained a creative approach to fix the issue, was upfront with fair pricing, and eventually solved the problem. As new residents of Needham, we will be taking any and all automotive issues to Catalano.Service: Oil change

Great service. The quality is excellent, and the price seems right to me.John is straightforward about what does and what doesn't need to be done. He advised us to stop trying to keep our very old car going and gave us advice about buying something newer that would be more reliable and inexpensive to maintain. I wish I'd know about his business many years ago!

I agree with all the other reviews here. John is easy to talk with and communicates very clearly. Prices are more than fair. He and his team fixed up our 2011 Volvo XC70 which was having some suspension component issues and now it drives as good as new. I had a hunch the battery in my 2005 Toyota Sienna needed to be replaced, so I made an appointment. John told me that they would inspect the car for other issues, which was exactly what I had in mind when I called. They were able to complete all the work that day (replace the battery, replace the struts, and various other maintenance-type things). John even let me use a loaner car for the day, which was really nice (and a pleasant surprise). My car is driving better now, and I feel like it's ready for the colder weather. I plan to go back to Catalano Automotive when my car needs its next oil change (or for any other repairs). Thank you!!

After finding this business online (and its great customer reviews), I submitted an appointment request. Within the hour, I received a reply and to my surprise- they were able to see me first thing the next morning. The staff was incredibly personable and, even though I know little to nothing about cars, I never felt like I was being sold services/ parts that I did not need. They were completely transparent regarding all charges and I never felt uncomfortable asking questions. I will definitely return!

After a different garage provided poor service and worse advice I found myself broken down on the side of I-95 and unsure of my next move.I searched the internet for nearby places I could have my car towed and found Catalano Automotive. It was early, but they were they open and John Catalano picked up the phone himself. We talked through the issue and he was able to confirm time to see me that same day.When my tow service delayed picking me up and I was stuck for hours, John reached out after expecting to see me and offered to assist in arranging a tow I could expect in a more timely manner. It is that kind of personal attention and touch I found consistent in my whole interaction with John.The price was fair, the work was good, and the entire experience left me feeling a lot more comfortable about where I'll be taking my car from here on out.

I live in CT and was traveling for work. I called to have my brakes looked at hoping/praying they could get me in and out rather quickly. Not only, did they diagnose the issue, but repaired it by before my meeting was over and at very fair price(plus the place was clean and seemed well run)! I wouldn't recommend waiting until the last minute like I did, but highly recommend them! Wish they were closer to me so I could use more often. In addition they followed up to make sure everything was working well (which is unheard of these days).
