As the reviews demonstrate, there seem to be two "Bobs". One is an excellent mechanic, polite and informative. The other is a miserable old man who is rude and dismissive, only wants to work on cars that don't need much work. I've met them both, and don't have time to waste wondering which one is going to appear. Won't be back

Don't ignore the negative reviews and find a different place to take your car. Today I brought my truck to be inspected. When it was done, he told me it would be 35 dollars, took my credit card, charged it, handed it back to me, and then told me never to bring my truck there again. I thought I misheard him so I asked him what he meant, and he said take it somewhere else. No explanation whatsoever. Definitely not someone who wants my business. Plus, I always thought it was odd that even post-mask mandates, even on days when it rains and its cold, they make you wait outside. Save your valuable time and go elsewhere.Service: Vehicle Inspection

Believe the negative reviews and find someone else. Very rude and dismissive if you don't buy his rip off services. A step down from Jiffy Lube.

Not only does Apex do an excellent job maintaining my car, they are kind and informative. They give me a heads up as to future maintenance and provide a clear detailed write-up of the work they performed. I will definitely keep bringing my car to them.

Called in to have vehicle inspected, upon showing up, i was told mechanic is at lunch and will take care of me as soon as he is back. While waiting i was able to see as the desk is outside, the same man that told me to wait, take the key of a female customer and take her car right inside. I asked how much longer ill have to wait and he said im sorry.. itll be another 20 min after just waiting for 30 minutes. You wasted my time. Which is very valuable. I called to talk to the manager. He told me never to come back again after i asked why he took someone else over me. Shame on your business. This is not how you treat A+ community members. Please avoid this business. Shame on you!!

Decided to try Apex Automotive out for the first time, having read the reviews I saw many very positive and some very negative reviews but decided to not judge them by their reviews and rather by their work... Called them up to make an appointment, gave them the complete description of my car, what I knew was going on with it and exactly what I wanted them to do. They gave me an estimate for how much that would cost, I was perfectly okay with it even going as far as to say if it doesn't fix the problem I understand there will be more costs, and booked an appointment 2 weeks ahead. Deliver the car at 8AM so they would have the whole day with the car and was told I would have it back by end of day. First thing I should have heeded was he asked how much I paid for the car, which I gladly told him. Lets just say this is not my nicest car and not a valuable one at that, but I love it all the same. 4pm rolls around and I get a text that my car is ready and to call them back so I do. I am told that they took a quick look and do not want to do any work on my car. I understand when a shop does not want to do work on a car most are kind enough to reject a car at the start, but if you are going to have me wait 2 weeks, then see the car at 8AM and then wait till 4pm to tell me go find someone else we aren't interested, is a huge waste of my time and effort. And then to say, "well even if we did the work you wanted we would end up taking a few days to fix the problem which you wouldn't want to pay" for is an insult assuming based on the value of the car that I would be unable or unwilling to pay for such work. Worst automotive/mechanic experience I have ever had, I would prefer to be ripped off having work done to my car than have my time wasted and myself insulted.

Twice in recent weeks we've had minor but semi-urgent vehicle issues. The first time, based on their good local reputation, we called Apex. They told us to drive on over the next morning. They quickly fixed the issue right in the parking lot for just a few bucks. A few weeks later we had another issue, called them again, drove over the next morning, and again they came right out and fixed it in the parking lot. Both times, they were helpful and kind in person and on the phone, and resolved our issues immediately.Service: Auto maintenance

I avoid this place.I went in for some minor work, the man who wrote up the ticket was super friendly and helpful. I came back to pick up the car and had more than $100 in extra work done that I had not been advised of at all, wiper blades, oil change and such. It s good for maintenance, we help you take good care of your car , said the same friendly, smiling guy. I told him I had not authorized any of that work. Well but the car needed it .I didn t have time that day to argue with this person who smiles a lot and acts like your friend. But he s untrustworthy. I did write them a long email telling them why I ll never go back there again. I didn t get a reply. Which is a loss for them far exceeding the few bucks they scammed off me as both my cars needed more that $3000 work since then. Which I took elsewhere and was done satisfactorily. I won t even go there for an inspection though it would be convenient to do so.

I also ignored the negative comments on-line and hoped to find a new place for auto work. After explaining my truck had a fuel leak, the person on the phone was extremely helpful and was asking me several questions to get an appointment setup. My phone dropped out and I called back. Instead of the same person picking up the phone, Bob answers (website notes him as the owner) and asks if my truck has rust. I confirm it has some (this is New England) and he says, 'Yeah, I don't want it here'. That was it. You are better off just spending your money at the dealer (which I did and my vehicle was fixed in 24 hours - pin hole in the fuel line).

This place is awesome! They took care of my car quickly. Very friendly and courteous, great communication. Extremely fair prices (total they charged was actually LESS than their original quote). They are very careful about their COVID protocols and even made sure my car was sanitized when I picked it up. They obviously take pride in their work and the service they provide. I am very impressed!Services: General repairs & maintenance, Auto engine diagnostic

Like many reviewers here, I've had nothing but great experiences with Apex Automotive during the 4 plus years I've been living in Great Barrington. The owner, Bob, is an easygoing guy, but he has always explained with great clarity the problem at hand, what he plans to do and roughly what it'll cost me. Some say they are a bit more expensive than some other shops, but I like and trust the staff, so if that's true, it's worth it for my peace of mind.

Bob and the staff at Apex have been taking care of my family's cars for almost 10 years now. I don't call at 5 o'clock on a Friday, and I rarely ask for same-day appointments (although Bob has offered them many times). I usually leave my car with them for a full day so they can fit the work in when they have time to give it their full attention. I try to treat them the way I would like my clients to treat me, and in return they have been unusually accommodating and fair. I trust them to change filters and wipers without me asking. I like that. I like knowing that they take a look at belts and hoses, even though I didn't ask them to. Yes, Apex will find problems other mechanics ignore. That's not dishonest. That's attention to detail.

The whole crew at Apex is friendly and gives me good service in a timely manner. If they can squeeze me in to the day's schedule they will do so. If they are booked they'll be honest enough to tell me, to give my truck the time and attention it needs instead of a hurry-up job for a fast buck. John and Bob always check for the least expensive part or option, explaining if a more expensive or OEM part is needed. Our F-150, our BMW, and our family think Apex is great!

I was an out-of-towner in need of immediate service because I was concerned about engine troubles. The staff was incredibly cordial and accommodating. They took my car and spent time diagnosing the trouble and explained it to me with great clarity and detail. Ultimately, they recommended that I would be able to drive it home to my own shop with better timing for me. They were so pleasant to work with and refused to accept any payment for their time. I highly recommend this repair shop to anyone.

Consistent, superior service. This is a shop with a knowledgable staff that looks out for you and recognizes the importance of your transportation in daily life. They always do their due diligence regardless of what you bring your car in for and give you a heads up of what needs attention immediately and what will need attention in the future which helps reduce or even prevent roadside breakdowns and all the associated costs and inconveniences. If I could give this team a higher rating than 5 stars, I absolutely would.

I have been taking my cars to Bob for seven years. He has always been accommodating , he has fit my cars in at the last minute and has most often found the problem quickly and at the most reasonable price to repair. He is always friendly and gives good advice.

GREAT SERVICE. I'm from out of state and wish my local mechanic was as good, quick and reasonable as Apex. My battery went dead in a supermarket parking lot. Fortunately, the guy I asked for a jump was Apex owner Bob!. The next day he installed a new battery -- and told me how to get reimbursed for the old one that was still under warranty.

Did unauthorized work and then was rude and degraded me when I questioned it and was upset. He had my phone number that I left with him and from a previous time, but claimed he could not get a hold of me. Bill was almost double what I approved(and the extra work was not a safety issue.). Examples, oil change because he thought I needed it, but I had coupons for free oil changes and it was barely over 3000 Miles, replaced battery, that did not need it. I got him to put my old one back in, left he insulted he and said good luck getting the car to start when you pick it up. Well my old battery worked all winter long and is still going strong. Word around town, mechanics do good mechanical work, but the shop over sells and owner can be rude. That was my experience . He does not honor the fact that I own the car and I must authorize work !

I cannot stress this enough, but do not take your car here. When I was in high school I sadly used this place all the time. They did the classic rip off tactic by doing work without asking and then tripling the bill. I would estimate 90% of the work done on my car was absolutely unnecessary, and I wasted well over $1,000 on them. Maybe it s because I was very young with no knowledge of cars, but regardless this place is just awful and all about making money. If you do plan on using them I highly suggest getting a second opinion before allowing them to do any work. One star is honestly too much for them.

We returned home late this afternoon,9/10/15, hoping to set up an appointment for a car repair we had discussed previously with Bob and Jane, the owners. The phone rang quite a few times because my wife was calling a couple of minutes after five. She was about to hang up because it had not gone to voice mail when a woman answered. My wife explained to the woman, most likely Jane, the co-owner; she said, just a minute. Bob came on the phone, he said you are calling after five on a Friday afternoon. I'm not going to work on your car. His voice was angry. He offered no further explanation. She was taken aback by his curtness and anger. He need not worry as we won't be bringing either of our cars there.

Apex offers state vehicle inspections. They were able to get my car in quickly for an inspection at the end of the day on a Friday. My car did not pass due to a problem they identified with my emergency brake-- they recommended I bring my car back another day in order for them to get a better understanding of the problem. I did bring my car back and they examined it again, and told me I required an expensive (approximately $400) repair involving three hours of labor and two new "rear brake cables," which they reduced by about $50 when I balked at this price. I felt suspicious, as my brake seemed to work well, and decided to get a second opinion before signing on for this expensive repair. My car easily passed inspection at another inspection station-- I inquired about my emergency brake specifically, and they found no problems with it at the second inspection station, noting that the brake held the necessary amount of weight and was functioning. Apex may have been misinformed about the requirements for an emergency brake to meet inspection standards, or perhaps they were trying to take advantage of me.

In agreement with many other reviews that Bob H (the owner) has a long time reputation for being rude and unprofessional. Yelled at my elderly father many years back for questioning some work bob did. It s ok because I believe in karma...

I called up to have my 1988 Volkswagen cabriolet tires and inspection done and when I got there they told me they could work on my car and change my tires on it and I am very angry that they didn't tell me that they could do over the phone so I wasn't 2 hours of my day today witch I could have been working for that time. I am very ANGRY and PISSED and very DISAPPOINTED.

My starter went out at the most inopportune time, but these guys were able to get me up and running within the day. Some really good, honest guys working here, would absolutely recommend this place to anyone.

this people are sooooo rude and the guy Bob is the least honest mechanic i have ever met, I wouldn't be surprised if this pieces of garbage did something to my car in order to fail the inspection so "i have to repair my car with them" and charge me of the roof, also his rates for labor are 100 bucks....!!!!!! he is the worst!
