If I could give zero stars I would. I would never recommend this place to anyone. 5 years ago I had a transmission rebuilt from these clowns. I had to bring my truck back 7 times because after the "rebuild" the transmission kept messing up. After the 7th time and paying them $2500 for the rebuild I took the truck elsewhere and paid $850 for a used transmission (take old the old, put in the new included). The rebuild and issues lasted about 7 months before I got fed up. Sometimes it would take them weeks to "fix" the issues with the rebuild. I had to pay almost $3000 for a rental vehicle during this as the truck was my only vehicle at the time and was not drivable when these issues kept occuring. DO NOT bring a vehicle here. This place is a joke.

It is hard for me to understand why they call themselves a transmission shop, when they had so much trouble repairing my transmission. It took about two months and at least 6 times of me dropping it off for a whole day for them to give me a working transmission. I guess this is what they call a 'rebuild' when they only fix the one "bad" component of the system and put it back together, but it took an enormous amount of time for them to accurately pick the one piece that needed replacing. Finally, I get back on the road with an entirely rebuilt transmission (or so I was told) and 2 days later it starts acting up again. I bring it in to him to check the check engine light, and he says it's just a small problem with the fuel exhaust, a minor thing, and it might not even be broken, how about we clear out the light and see if it comes back?Well, I don't understand why he didn't think based on my description of what I was experiencing, and wonder if I was low on transmission fluid or if it was dirty, he's supposed to be an expert, and it would have been a simple thing for him to pull out the stick and check on it (I didn't know about it at the time).A week later everything goes wrong. What used to be just a stuttering reluctance to change gears became absolute, and I could not go into reverse. I freaked out. I got towed out of my parking space and brought it back to him. He took a day to look at it (I got a ride home) and told me that he thought it might have "melded into the foward position because it got overheated, possibly from too little oil or dirty oil".I could still drive the car forward, so I brought it to someone else to refill my transmission fluid, and they told me it had been very low. I am now quite sure that I had a leak in the system and that I had let it get so low that I destroyed my transmission. I feel that he should have told me this was a possibility from the first time I brought my car in and not just expected the check engine light to be the best diagnosis. My fuel exhaust would not have made it feel the way it did when I drove it, as another mechanic told me.I am not a car expert, but my dad heard me talking about the symptoms and immediately suggested getting more transmission fluid, which is what i did and has made the car drive as normal again, except I'm pretty sure my reverse is screwed permanently, because I didn't know I had low transmission fluid until it was too late. And I don't know how long it was leaking, but I feel like it wouldn't have leaked had he done a good job of fixing it in the first place. As mad as I am at the problems this whole ordeal has accrued, I recognize that Jim has done a lot of diagnosis for me for free, just checking on things and giving me what seems like his best. But I'm afraid, his best does not seem to be enough.

Well to start I took my car to the dealership to have it checked out for the transmission not going into 3rd gear. The dealership wanted $3000 some odd dollars to fix it so I found that rather hard to believe cause the car is a 96. So I went to claphams and boy did they do a great job!!!!!! And the price was fair, I would recommend this transmission repair to any one that needs a honest transmission repair to there car. Just awsome

Ask for Jim. Great person of character with kind smile. Jim is kind of person who seemed know the transmission work down to his bone. Clapham s Transmission was in business since 1990 and was recommended by a lot of auto shops all around. My car Ford SHO 2011 was broken down on the road at 50K miles with warranty ended within 5 years. PTU unit was all torn apart which effected the drive trans to break as well, felt of aggression towards Ford for poor quality in part and Ford Dealer who apparently had looked at this issue before and fail to prevent. Anyways, I would like to thank Clapham s Transmission and JIM for his great work on the car. The car was fixed within 3 days with price I believe was far better than the Ford Dealer. The car is driving great now..Thank you..

BUYER BEWARE... Clapham's labels themselves as "transmission specialists" but are anything but. I have taken my car back at least 4 times after a "transmission rebuild" and it still doesn't work right. At this point they are throwing parts at the car and keeping it for weeks at a time with no communication. When asking what's wrong with the car Jim knows how to build confidence by saying things such as "it's a mystery." I must say he is very accommodating as long as he is getting paid...unfortunately the wait to get him to correct his shoddy work will leave you without a car for weeks at a time until you chase him down. He thinks you should be without a car because paying customers are a priority... nevermind those who have already shelled out thousands of dollars and are still under warranty. They should probably stick to oil changes and basic maintenance or pack up their toys and go home.
