Great experience getting my car inspected here. I went for a state-required inspection for my new vehicle and they identified an issue which is known with the manufacturer and was fully covered by insurance to get repaired by the manufacturer. It could have posed a serious safety issue had Jim Barbey co. not identified it. The inspection was also a few bucks cheaper than those nearby.Thanks guys!

UPDATE- I received a refund for half of the amount paid for my car's service.I am extremely upset and disappointed with my recent service here. My car is reaching the age where I should decide whether or not to replace it or to continue paying for maintenance and repairs. I took my car in for an oil change, squeaky brakes and the suspension. Since it had been a while since my car had been serviced, I also requested a general check-up throughout the vehicle. The diagnosis and repair estimate was almost $2000, but no major mechanical problems were found, so I gave the go-ahead, as my car would seemingly have decent life left after these repairs and so would be worth the service. I paid a little over $1900 and picked my car up the next day. When I picked it up and started driving it home, I immediately noticed that the engine felt a little strained as if it was struggling to run. The next day, immediately upon driving it, the engine had significant difficulty running and I immediately called and took it back into the shop and explained the whole situation. Within 5-10 minutes of testing it, I was told that my car is essentially finished- the lower motor was about to die and the car needed a new engine. I was quoted over $4,000 just for a used engine. I'm not an expert in cars, which is the whole reason I brought the car in. I wanted to determine if my car had enough life in it to justify spending more money on repairs. I understand that coincidences happen, but if a team is working on my car at that many points of repair and test drove it after all of the work was finished, I find it very hard to believe that no one saw or noticed this life-ending problem with the car, or that this occurred less than 24 hours later (not even 30 minutes actually driving the vehicle) after service was completed. I'm now out of a vehicle and the $1900 I spent to fix the car.Services: Steering & suspension repair, General repairs & maintenance, Steering & suspension replacement, Tire rotations, Wheel alignment, Brakes, Oil change

Came here to have my car serviced and the rim was making a noise. I was told the lugs had been left loose. I thought I would need to have 2 new tires put on.Scott who helped me was honest and said I would not need 2 new tires. He even helped me get a rim for the car. Great place. Will definitely come back.

I was originally at Precision Tune and they quoted a repair for an alternator @ $1150!!! I called around from a suggestion from a Shannon (who was also a customer but told me to call Barbey, Thank you Shannon!) Not only did Barbey quote me hundreds less for the same repair, but when I dropped off my car, they took the time to tell me that it was NOT the alternator but a Tension Belt Assembly. Which then dropped my cost down 50%! I truly appreciate their honesty and integrity. They could have bilked me for the unnecessary alternator repair AND the Tension Belt Assembly but they did NOT. I'm very fortunate to have been recommended to them by a complete stranger and will continue to do business with them going forward.

My first time experience was very good, they looked over my truck to find the issue and they notified m of what needed to be done, they were friendly & professional, they ordered parts & had it fixed in a reasonable time and the pricing was good, gave an upfront estimate, I would recommend this auto shop to people and I would go back to have them service my truck again, they customer service is outstanding along with there crew.

They broke a sensor, Tried hiding it and didn't tell me, days later the engine cuts off without warning in the middle of traffic nearly causing an accident. Made me pay for what they broke.On 12/12/23, 10 days after I get my car back from this shop my engine cuts off in the middle of rush hour traffic nearly causing a potentially fatal accident. The car was in the shop for a couple of different reasons one of which was to have a coolant leak repair the coolant leak repair involved having the valve covers removed which involved unplugging the mass air flow sensor plug they broke the mass air flow sensor plug during the repair and didn't tell me they also took that plug tried zip tying it back together still not telling me anything and gave me back the car in that condition then a couple days go by and I noticed the car is running rough and is not getting any better they informed me that it will get better over time but it seemed that it wasn't getting better and it wasn't getting worse. Then all of a sudden with no warning the engine cuts off completely during rush hour traffic heading home. Luckily I was able to avoid a potentially fatal collision with another vehicle. I informed the shop of what happened and they explained that they'll take a look and see what has happened today December 13th 2023 they told me that they had zip tied the mass air flow sensor plug and it has popped out while I was driving causing the engine shut down while in motion. They charged me $300 for the part and labor of replacing what they broke. After paying 2250$ in related and unrelated repairs 10 days earlierFor more context my car is an 06 Mustang GT and I get it things break because they're old but to not tell me what has happened with my car and then to make a negligent repair that would cause total engine power loss during motion that not only puts my life at risk but also puts innocent motorist and people at risk as well.

I have been looking for reputable service other than a dealership. I had a rear brake light replaced. Service was very good, and I will be returning for future services. My recent visit revealed my engine is burning oil. My advisor informed me how to get the problem addressed by the dealership via an oil consumption test. There is a possibility of me needing a new engine. Jim Barbey's honesty and knowledge is greatly appreciated.

My husband always doubts reviews. He said people write fake ones to boost rating. I got really offended because every review that I wrote I definitely stand behind. Otherwise I would not spend the time to write one. Like every other reviews here, Scott is a gem! I told him my problem. He gave me his opinion and then let me make the decision. Even if that opinion means that I don t spend the money right now. It s been so long since I ve found an auto service that I can trust. I am coming here for all services to my 2 cars and will recommend Jim Barbey to my friends and family. Thank you Scott for caring and being so awesome!

I had several problems with my car and all were taken care of wonderfully. It may have taken a day and a half but they worked on it until they had it working properly. I would recommend them to anyone who need to have work done on their car.

Great service and very fair prices. This is the shop to take your vehicle!I'm so grateful to have found Jim Barbey Automotive. My car broke down on a road trip and I didn't know where i was. I called a few shops in the area, but once I spoke to SCOTT, I knew I found someone who cared and I could trust. Scott helped me through the whole process, keeping me updated on parts and status. Most importantly, he did not take advantage of me or my stranded situation. Thank you for your stellar service thank you for fixing my beloved car

Every great once in awhile, you run into a truly world class organization like Jim Barbey Automotive. The folks behind the service counter are very friendly, professional and also very knowledgeable. They use all of the modern technology available and keep you informed at every step of the process. Prices are very fair and turnaround times have never been more than a day or two. The owner is accessible and likes to take time to meet and get to know his customers. I highly recommed this shop!Services: Air & cabin filter replacement, Brakes, Oil change

They were able to get me in in a reasonable time. The price was competitive w others. They were transparent in pricing and quotes. Explained the safety inspection process to me, as I'm new to MD. Location was easy to find, ample parking, and comfortable seating for those that were waiting. Wil definitely be back in the future and recommend to.others.

Jim has been working on our family vehicles for about 5 years now and we have no complaints. Most honest mechanic I've even dealt with. Never have we dropped off a vehicle for something and had a laundry list of things completely unrelated to the issue that "needed done". We also have never had to take a vehicle back in for the same issue after a repair.

5 STAR SERVICE. I don t write reviews because I m lazy af. But I will this time because I really do appreciate the service. My check engine light came on and I had this nagging buckling sound toward my rear wheels so I had to put my car in the shop for repairs. I dropped my car off early Monday morning. They were able to accurately diagnose the problem by that afternoon. They called me when they said they would. Gave me an accurate timeline throughout. The people at the front desk were very friendly and I was in and out in a day and a half. Got my car back Tuesday afternoon. I was originally quoted over $700 which is steep, but I was willing to pay because I had complete confidence they could fix my car. They ended up getting my CarMax warranty to cover a significant portion so I only had to pay about $470!! I ll never go to anyone else for repairs. 10/10Service: General repairs & maintenance

Did some asphalt work there, there's a new patch to the right side of where you pull in. He came up to me and the guys and was very nice, very welcoming and he even has one of our trucks in the shop. Thanks dude

Update: Spoke to the shop owner Jim, and he completely changed my experience. I was quite upset at the service I received from some of his employees but Jim allowed me to state what my problem was without interrupting me which was something his employee was unable to do. He explained what their point of view was on this inspection and explained how he was intending for the process to go. I still have nothing good to say about his employees. They need to listen to the boss and perform adequate customer service. I may be back at a future date because of Jim Barbey himself. Hopefully, he has either trained his employees or gotten new employees when I decide to come back in. If you get bad service TALK TO JIM. he is a stand-up guy.Service: Vehicle safety inspection

I'm glad I found this gem. I have referred 4 family members and will continue to praise this establishment. Scott is a valuable asset as he goes above and beyond, not just for me, but every customer. I witnessed it first hand several times today. The whole team deserves recognition for their work ethic, honesty and teamwork. While waiting, I observed everyone & every interaction.
