Sean is a great mechanic and a great guy. He is always really helpful and answers all my repetitive questions, helping me learn. Really enjoy working with him, and Zimmerman has been very good with scheduling and making things easy for me. Very good experience every time.

Poor customer service, late ordering parts, and an inaccurate diagnoses cost me thousands in wasted repairs. Please read the fine print in the customer agreement which leaves only arbitration and or federal court. There is a difference between a parts changer and a mechanic. I also had a horrible experience with Ian and they did lack communication.

Arrogance and poor communication skills is how I would summarize my interaction with Ian. To be fair, I did not do business with Zimmerman and this is not a review on the techs, they very likely are solid. I requested a quote to perform service on my boat which I spent the next couple of weeks having to chase down status. Never once did I receive a call (unlike other local marine shops) nor did I get any responses more than a couple of words. They operate on a "we will get to you when we get you" philosophy and have no interest in earning business since they have a long work queue. I applaud any business that can thrive in these conditions, but you owe it to your customers to let them know if their business isn't a priority versus asking them to complete lengthy intake forms and also request credit card information. My time is valuable and for commoditized services there is a lot of competition in the area; we are not talking about custom fabrication or modifications. Anyhow, I still believe that businesses should treat customers as gold and not as another transaction. Ian lacks essential communication and customer management skills. I found another local shop that has been great to work and do not recommend Zimmerman.

I have an old engine that most places cannot repair because no one knows how. This company took the time to find someone that can help me with my old boat engine, and they won t even see a penny from it. What outstanding customer service! I ve used Zimmerman for general maintenance and repairs of my boat (Sea Ray 330). Each time they ve done a fantastic job. Although I am fortunate that they are located at my marina, if they weren t, I would not hesitate to travel to them for service. That s how good they are! I wanted to share my overwhelmingly positive experience with Zimmerman Marine at Herrington Harbour North. They are responsive, honest, and do great work at a fair price. They have been doing the routine engine maintenance on my J-30, and over the last couple of years, I have had them do a major fiberglass restoration and a re-power. My 1984 sailboat now looks and runs like it did thirty years ago. Throughout both jobs, Zimmerman kept me informed of the progress, and adjusted to accommodate my schedule. I have used Zimmerman Marine at Herrington Harbor-North for a number of years, and have been extremely pleased with the quality of their work and their customer service. I currently own an older sailboat which has required some substantial repairs. Zimmerman refurbished the bottom of the boat several years ago, blasting it down to the glass, repairing damaged areas, fairing it and then giving it an epoxy barrier coat. They did the job at a fair price and completed it by the promised date. This past season, they refurbished the Yanmar diesel, lifting it out of the boat and giving me what amounts to a new engine, again at a good price and on-time. More important to me is the level of customer service. They are quick to respond to my requests and make me feel like a valued customer. If you are considering a repair, I highly recommend Zimmerman and I suggest you call Ian for a high-quality experience.

I hired Zimmerman Marine for a late winterization and engine service and they responded within days. The communication was excellent as they responded to all my questions clearly and timely. I have had nothing but an excellent experience. I m given an estimate before the work begins and the final price is within 3% of the original estimate. They have replaced all the risers, elbows and heat exchangers, installed dripless shafts, installed a new fresh water head, removed the transmissions and sent them out for rebuilds while the boat was still in the slip, installed new electronics with a new transducer all within the last 4 seasons and without any issues. They continue to perform all yearly maintenance. I wouldn Use anyone else.

I have used Zimmerman for many years. Most of the times, their bills were fair and when they weren't I had been able to reason with them. In the last situation, they charged me $1019 for replacement of a $150 bilge pump. They charged roughly $800 in labor including labor of-site labor charges. I discussed and they were not willing to make any adjustment. This is outrageous. Yes, I am paying the bill, but will NEVER use Zimmerman again. Suggest anyone reading this to stay away. Further in spring commissioning, they missed some things and still charged a trip charge when they came back to fix the missed items. Hope this helps someone to make an informed decision.

This job included replacement of two 8D batteries and the total replacement of the propeller shaft, Cutless bearing, and stuffing box with a PYI dripless shaft seal.The shaft that we inherited when we bought the boat was grossly out of alignment, and the shaft had been corroded under the packing and badly worn by contact with the stuffing box. The end product, while not cheap, was done right. I personally witnessed the final alignment of the engine to the shaft, and Joel took incredible care with it. The final result:. Zero vibration through the entire speed range. As a bonus, he also straightened out the rudder and everything works like it should.We've put over 100 miles on the boat in the last two weeks without a burp. Ian runs a first class operation. His techs (at least the ones that worked on my boat) were very capable. I have an Aloha 32 with a reverse transmission and the westerbeke 21 is squeezed in pretty tightly. They still did a great job. Found and fixed some additional problems. Left the boat neat snd clean. Can t speak highly enough of the team at Zimmerman s. Since moving to the Bay, I ve counted on them several times for everything from engine service to plumbing. Each time, a positive experience.Most recently, they even made a service call on Memorial Day after I lost an engine. I manage some very expensive and large vessels out of Washington, D.C. (2007 lazzara LSX75; 2008 Sunseeker Predator 62) These vessels have complicated systems and constantly need maintenance/upgrades. Both of these boats had some very expensive special projects that normally would be done in south Fl. Ian Zimmerman and the Zimmerman team where able to complete them. They have the experience, knowledge, trust, resources and facilities to get the work done. I had work completed on 39ft shearwater sailboat- worked on prop, prop shaft, engine alignment- Assessment of problems and issues was Fantastic- very expertise and knowledgeable- engine and drivetrain work wonderfully now - Very Smooth and quiet!! Wonderful Finish to a very Vexing problem!!!

This is by far the worst repair service I have ever seen. They did such a poor job repairing my boat with underqualified technicians that I had to have the job done by another repair service. They also overcharged me. Please save yourself the hassle and go somewhere else.
