Excellent hotel experience for my last vacation day. Super clean and friendly staff. Nicest lady ever! Room had an old style feel but looked perfect and updated. Shower was hot and wonderful. Outside had a comfy chair away from the rain. Only downfall was when you google the price it said $63 but when we got there we were charged $80. Overall excellent experience.

So our wrestling team went to check in this place we arrive and it is terrible outside appearance but your options are minimal in this area. So we go to check the rooms I honestly would not have let my dog bathe in the tub. But we were going to chalk it up and stay. UNTIL the person checking us in became very RUDE. Would not recommend anyone staying here. Went down the road to best western been a great decision.

I generally love old motels. This one is okay for a cycling trip. Options are limited in Hancock but I would choose this one over the chain motel by the interstate. Our room had new furniture including nice beds, but still retained an old tile floor in the bathroom that was in very good condition. There was a bike wash and owners stored our bikes in their garage overnight. Great restaurant across the street. Be aware there appear to be guests who rent by the week or month, but we had no issues. Very reasonable rates.

We stayed here one night on a recent bike trip down the C&O canal. There were several other bikers staying there also who we talked to while sitting out front and doing some bike maintenance. Its an easy walk from the center of town and the C&O canal towpath. The rooms are pretty well worn and not in great shape but all the critical things (ice machine, A/C, shower) were working so I can't complain. We were able to store our bikes in the garage but you have to coordinate in advance when to get them and they literally open the door for about a minute so dont be late.

The Hancock Motel was a uniquely horrible experience for the C&O Canal. We were told we could not bring our bikes in the room even though it is on a main street and I did not see any secure bike storage. This was ironic because the floor was already damaged and disgusting so I'm actually glad my bike tires didn't touch it. The shower looked like it hadn't been cleaned. Shout out to my friends the earwigs who were chilling there. They were the nicer members of the staff.Would recommend the super 8 and baring that, sleeping under a bridge, probably less bugs.Rooms: GrossNearby activities: Try not to get run over walking into townSafety: SuspectWalkability: Hope you can dodge traffic

Well worth the price. Room was clean. Had a big TV, nice fridge, microwave. Shower was hot, beds were very comfortable. The manager (I assume she was the manager) was very accommodating with my motorcycle trailer. The location is close to a lot of good riding, both paved and unpaved. There are plenty of places to eat and/or get groceries minutes away.If I could give it 4 1/2 stars, I would do so because of the poor wifi. I was able to manage, but if I had needed it for something important, I would have been SOL.

Pretty much what you expect from a low cost motel. Clean enough room, soap, towels, etc. One thing was that they don't let you take your bike into the room. They did offer to put it in their garage and set a time for me to pick it up in the morning. Showed up at the appointed time and my bike was just sitting outside unattended. Nothing was missing, but that put a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. Really needed my bike to do my trip.

1/15/23I had a hard time believing the negative reviews, seeing as they just seemed like grouchy people, but now I completely understand.First impression was like a ice bath, after meeting ( I assume the owner) a rather unpleasant, eastern European. I will chalk it up to him being eastern European. We got our keys and stepped into our room, which was presumably as cold as the outside which was the mid 30s, and this is no joke. It took until 2 am for me to feel comfortable enough to take off my coat and pants. I found out fast the tv and all the other appliances were unplugged from the wall but was never able to get the TV watchable. So I just tried to sleep in the cold room, which didnt happen because there was a loud noise coming from somewhere in the room and I finally discoved it was one of the appliances, which would explain why the power strip that had the tv, refrigerator, microwave, etc, had been unplugged. About 3am I was awakened by the slamming of a door on the building. ( this happened more than once throughout the rest of the night) between the heater(which was excessively loud), the slamming doors on the building and all the road noise from large trucks going over the expansion joints on the bridge I found it hard to get much sleep at all. The room it's self was quaint and charming, but areas were extremely dated and had stains, including the sheets on the bed. It's a shame, this was the outcome of us staying because it seemed quite charming. Unfortunately, I will not be back. I'd rather drive further and get a good night's sleep than waste my time and money here. We went to checkout and found the door locked and no checkout instructions, so we put the keys in the mailbox. This, all in all, was an unpleasant experience.Rooms: Rooms were relatively clean but could definitely use a deep clean and updating. The beds are rather dated and not very comfortable

My husband booked 2 nights here to surprise me for our 25th anniversary. Price was right, room was very clean. Reason for only 4 stars? Here we go: advertised room included continental breakfast but the office is not open/covered from 1am until 11am. Why would I wait until lunchtime to get some bread for breakfast? Yes, the room was clean and the bed was very comfortable, BUT so very dated. A coat of paint on the walls and perhaps a better chair at the desk would go so far into making this updated and "better". The "Archie Bunker" style chairs that sit outside each room on the "patio" are comfortable but they need to be replaced or at least recovered (go with replaced because I think it will cost less). Love that you can sit outside and enjoy nature and people watch, but those chairs..... Also, pet peeve, please can you pull the weeds out so when I sit on the patio I don't feel like I need to get up and do it for you?Good over bad, yes I would come back and stay here again. Clean room, polite staff. I just hope they can paint the walls to make the room a little brighter before my next visit.

Clean, quiet retro motel that has maintained some cool, older features. Checked in late evening by friendly & helpful front desk staff. Standard amenities (TV, fridge, coffeemaker), while not brand new, all worked fine and did the job. Overall very comfortable stay.

Great little motel that has everything that I need - you drive right up to your room, it s clean, you can open the windows and enjoy the nice air, plus the fridge, coffee maker, all that. And plus, a bathtub! No stuffy odors, decent furnishings. Great value. Love this place.

It's not the Ritz, but if you go in with no preconceived notions, it's a wonderful place. We love the old motor lodge vibe, complete with rooms that are more like cabins, complete with knotty pine paneling. The rooms are surprisingly spacious, clean and comfortable. Only caveat is that the bathroom floor is cold! The staff here are pleasant and helpful, check-in and check-out was quick and efficient, and the property itself is quite lovely. We have stayed here multiple times in the past and will continue to do so!

Small, family-owned business that really cares about their customers! I love this little motel tucked away in a cozy corner of historical Hancock, Maryland. My two sons and I passed through and decided to stop for the night. We chose this place over the other motel because of its family-friendly atmosphere. Despite the bad reviews, we decided to give the place a try because the place had new owners. As a previous business owner, I know what new management can mean for a business. We wanted a room with double beds, but none were available. To our delight, they had sofa-beds in each of the rooms, so I was able put the kids on the sofa-bed while I enjoyed the comforts of the queen-sized by myself, and at such a great price! The blankets and sheets were bright white, so I know that they were truly clean. No stains on the mattresses or furniture. The bathroom was thoroughly clean, as was the rest of the room (including under the bed and furniture). The rooms are warm and inviting. The atmosphere was very cozy and I felt very much like a valued guest. Staying here has created a pleasant memory for us, and we know where we're going to be staying the next time we pass through Hancock. We highly recommend this place!

Three stars is just okay and really if you aggregate, it I would give this place three stars. The place had a really moldy smell and I wasn't able to sleep that whole night because of the noises coming from the opening and closing of doors and other units; so the walls are really thin. Now if none of that bothers you they had a breakfast buffet, TVs in the rooms are huge. I'm The refrigerator was able to fit the pizza box from the Pizza Hut located down the block. I was impressed by the quality of the bathroom the bathroom soaps and overall it was nice. It seems to be a mom-and-pop operation yet they seem to have somebody on duty all the time I was able to check in at 10:00 at night. There are a couple of cute cats running around the community hitting on people that stay there for what food they have.

Came in during a snowstorm and was pleasantly surprised. Slept very well Nice family run place. Clean and comfortable beds and clean bathroom. Would stay again. People have commented on the decor but I see it as vintage. Everything is a well preserved snapshot of how motor-hotels were originally patterned. Add to that the cozy main house / lobby where guests may be able to lounge on the porch and take in some decent views. Of course it's a bit small by today's standards, so if you need a lot of room, you may need to go somewhere else.

The room and facility is dated. Some items are in need of repair or replacement. The room seemed clean. I did not see any bugs. There was a slight odor of staleness. The water was hot, the shower worked, the bed was comfortable and seemed clean. Also, there is a restaurant within walking distance.

I would highly recommend this hotel! It is family owned and run. The rooms were very clean, each having a TV, AC and refrigerator. They even opened the kitchen early for us so we could get our complimentary breakfast before leaving for our bicycle ride. The hotel had a hose and rags to wash your bikes. It is in a quite place. If you are looking for a clean place to sleep with not many frills, this is the place. It truly was the best value of our 5 day bike trip.

It is staffed with friendly and very helpful staff.i would definitely recommend this place if you are looking for good hotel and nice prices.

$87 for a night at this place is $86 too much. The room was small, smelled of cigarettes and mold. The key reader to unlock the door was so old it took 15 tries to work. The ac took two hours to cool the room down. Worst of all was the bed. The mattress was so old and broken that you sunk almost all the way through and rolled to the center. Woke up hurting. The sheets felt made of paper. Very scratchy and coarse. The shower had barely any water pressure and very little hot water. The parking area looks very unsafe, and not the sort of area you'd like to leave your car without getting broken into. How they stay in business is beyond me.

The most pleasant experience ever! It was a last minute booking. since we were coming from New York and it was a long trip we decided to relax before we can continue our trip. The motel has a large parking lot which is a perfect thing after difficulties with parking in NY :) As soon as we came in receptionist met us, she was very friendly and helpful. We got the keys to the room 101 . The room was very clean. You can see that the owners are taking care of the business and trying to do their best to keep it nice and clean. I was surprised that it is a family business and every member of the family contribute something in it. We had complimentary breakfast the next day which is also a big plus. The atmosphere is very calm and relax full , the air is super clean , those little cats that running around are adorable !!!! If we would have more time we would stay there much longer!!!!!! Undoubtedly RECCOMEND this place to everyone!!!!!!!

MUSKY.A leaky bathtub faucet keeps the room plenty moist. I'd guess there is a ton of mold under the carpet and wall panels. I was congested for a day or so. Lucky I didn't develop a full blown lung infection. The woman at the desk was very nice and pleasant. She did say the place is changing owner ship and getting remodeled shortly. I was there in early September 2014 so perhaps a later guest can report on remodeling.Breakfast minimal.AC units were very noisy and made it hard to sleep.I turned off the ac to then get to hear the dripping bathtub. I wrapped a towel around the faucet to muffle the noise and that helped. As others said, very vintage decor.Real key for the door.

Price is beyond fair! Rooms are a little outdated but very well kept up and clean! Beds were comfy and did have a breakfast bar. Was traveling with my boyfriend and one year old son. The owner was helpful in the morning with keeping my son occupied while I got our breakfast together. Would highly recommend to anyone and if I m ever back in town will definitely be staying again! Received better service here then I have at some 5 star hotels!

Stopped here on my bike ride from DC to Pittsburgh. This motel is located a short walk off trail (up the steps on the side of the Potomac restaurant). The motel rooms on the outside look a little scary. The inside of my room was actually very nice except for the multiple stink bugs I had to exterminate. The AC chilled my room within minutes, 95F outside. The refrig/freezer kept my drinks ice cold. Yeah! The price is very affordable. The breakfast they offer is weak but for the price of a room I won't deduct stars. I believe the owners are a Russian family, they were extremely friendly to me but difficult to understand on the phone. They do not allow bikes in the rooms but they will allow you to keep the bikes in their locked garage. The restaurant across the street is excellent.

Recommend this hotel to family that were coming to visit as Hancock doesn t have many places to choose from, first they gave them the keys to a room that wasn t even cleaned, towels on tables and bed sheets sitting on the bed, so my family requested another room and was accommodated but then my cousin went to the office the next day to ask for something and the owner blamed them for smoking in the rooms, which they weren t and told them that the first room they were given was ready for them that they lied about it. The owner was very rude to them and I was ashamed that I even told them to stay there, I was trying to keep them central to our location. So they came up a few weeks later and stayed in Berkeley Springs and loved it, I will never again recommend anyone staying in any hotels in Hancock

Very dated motel with musty smell in the rooms due to its age. The Beds were pleasant. But hotel staff were nasty. The staff would be more suited operating a prison system. When I ask for an extra set of towels I was ask why. And they refused to give me any extra towels. The property suffers from being run down and lack of maintenance. When you lie in bed you will be mesmerized by the different kinds of tile on the ceiling as a result of not replacing all of them when remodeling. This is a typical motel under the ownership not native to the U.S. the only positive aspect was the rather large friendly kitty cat that greeted us when we arrived. The ownership would do well to take notes from the feline on customer service. The pictures do not reflect accurately the poor condition of the hotel.
