Love this shop. Always taking great care of customers! Recently had my 5.7hemi replaced. Truck runs so much better and smoother. Best mechanics and customer service by miles. My entire family has been going here for over 20+ years for a reason.

I gave Cheseldine two stars for the following reasons1) Everyone in the office was very friendly. Welcomed me as soon as I walked in. Gary and I laughed as he was getting my vehicle information and I like that. That is why I gave them two stars. But if it wasn t for that interaction I would have giving them no stars. And this is why I went in for an oil change. My first time going to them and I only went there because I had some shopping to do and they are right by Walmart. My car was running smooth and nothing was wrong with it just time for an oil change. Pickup car no conversation. No your car need this or that nothing. Sunday morning (the next day) I take my Aunt shopping. On the way to drop her off I smell something that smell like it is burning but think nothing of it. Finally drop my Aunt off and I see that my car is over heating. Pull over let my car cool off put some antifreeze in it and make it back home (3 minutes away). Wake up the next morning to go to a Walmart to get some medicine and more antifreeze. Before I make it to Walmart (2 minutes from my house) my car is pass the H.To finally get to the point I pour almost an entire bottle of antifreeze in my car before I look under the car just to see the antifreeze pouring out. This wasn t happening before I got my oil change. Not saying they did something but it wasn t happen before that visit. NEVER AGAIN.So disappointed. I heard bad things about them before but I feel like everyone situation or point of view is different and I took a chance. A chance I wish I never took.

My van died on the side of the road on a Wednesday and my usual place was booked up, so I tried Cheseldine. They said they d be able to get to it by Friday, so I had it towed in. They diagnosed the issue that same day and my van was ready by 9:30 on Thursday morning. So pleased.

Cheseldine has been the only place my family and I have taken our vehicles for years. They are very accommodating, treat you as they would family, and are very knowledgeable. Gary, Wayne, and all other employees are very personable and easy to deal with. When they realize something is outside of their scope of work (which is rare), they tell you that instead of wasting your time and money. They do their best to fit you in as soon as possible, and I m very impressed with how quickly service/repairs are completed. Prices are also very reasonable. 10/10 recommend.

Update 03/01/2023: Cheseldine reached out and offered to correct the issue. I'm thankful they did their research and took my concern seriously. I've had multiple services done at Cheseldine with no previous issues so I'm glad they still offer good customer service and acknowledged my concern.I've had a handful of visits to Cheseldine Tire and Auto between the California location and their Leonardtown location. Unfortunately, my most recent visit at the California location will be my last. My rear brake pads and rotors were in desparate need of changing. They were changed mid Dec 2022. I dropped my 2010 Highlander off and was able to pick it up later that day. I noticed what appeared to be a copper-like color on the metal but I chose to believe it was some type of coating or painted parts. Upon further review, it was clearly rust. My 8 year old even asked why they were badly rusted. I called within the week but it was after hours and I did not leave a message. I brushed it off but I was still frustrated they a mechanic would put rusted parts on anyone's vehicle. Also the rust has left a coating on my rims within the inner tire that does not come entirely off. Fast-forward, I finally called again and explained the issue. I was told rust should be expected. Even when I reiterated that the rotors were rusted from the beginning and they are severely rusted, I was not offered a solution. This is completely unacceptable and also a safety issue. I don't know if these were stored improperly and the mechanic still decided to use them but there's no excuse. I'm sure it wouldn't have been a burden to find or order different rotors. The rotors that were previously on my vehicle had been on for 5 years and did not have visible rust. Yet these rotors were already rusted. It's only been 2 months, and they're horrible. My vehicle has not had any damage or been in harsh conditions. To say I am disappointed would be a severe understatement.

We have taken so many vehicles here, 4 for md state inspections, several oil changes, and several larger maintenance or repair trips. I wish I had stopped coming back after the first or second negative experience, but I kept coming back and every time I, and my wallet, have regretted it. The men at the desk are rude, they make promises and don't follow through (we were told they would be willing to write a report on a recently purchased vehicle attesting to shotty work done by the seller's mechanic, but they never did and flat out refused to when pressed). They submitted an estimate to insurance for approval, and when the actual price turned out lower than they estimated, they insisted we pay the (higher) estimated price. I'm convinced they 'found' problems during the state inspection simply because they could charge us whatever since we needed to pass to register the vehicles. Anyway, I could go on. We're finally done, never coming back, and I suggest you do the same and find someone else.Update to add: looking at other reviews, all their replies to negative reviews are excuses and place the blame back on the customer. So I wasn't surprised the reply was the same for mine. That being said, just be aware that if you come to this shop, it will always be your fault if something goes wrong with your maintenance or service experience.

No problems with the actual maintenance performed on my vehicle, but had an issue with their technician damaging windshield tint. Called up to see if we could agree on them fixing damage they directly caused and was met with a belligerent response.Detailed description is that I had an old oil service sticker on an aftermarket tint strip that I had left on because I knew it would likely damage the tint. Cheseldine technician decided to remove the old sticker without asking me about it and ripped a big hole in the tint. Never contacted me before risking the damage and didn't disclose the damage on pick up. As a matter of fact, he had placed a new sticker over the damage to disguise it.Fine, stuff happens and they could have made it right. I explained the sequence of events to the manager and he was downright dismissive and rude telling me that because it wasn't "malicious" there was no responsibility for the business to repair the damage. After I finally got him to stop interrupting me long enough to explain my position, he still insisted that his shop bore no responsibility despite the fact that it arrived undamaged and was returned to my custody with ruined tint. He insisted his technician "had to" remove the old sticker to do his job, sorry J-O-B as he snidely put it. Sorry, but no that's not part of the required maintenance and if you know it's likely to cause damage but still think you have to do it, you contact the customer first. It's a courtesy sticker and he could have left it, asked me if I cared, or owned up when it went wrong. None of those things happened. The stubborn refusal to accept responsibility for direct consequences of their own actions and the resulting rude handling of the interaction should be known to future customers in case they might also be mistreated in a similar manner. It's too bad, as there were many other good things about this shop, but not enough to make it worthwhile to have my property or myself treated like that.

New to the state and Gary and Wayne at the California location were so welcoming! This shop was able to get me in within a day, complete a state inspection, oil change, and two other services within 6 hours. Great, professional, & friendly service. Highly recommended & will be using them in the future.

I work for Door Dash and I accepted a delivery today to be picked up at Advanced Auto Parts in California Maryland to be delivered to Cheseldine Tire & Auto also in California Maryland. I introduced myself as Martin the DD driver with parts. The gentleman that I gave the parts to took them and walked away. So I asked the gentleman to come back because he had to sign for his delivery. He said he don t sign on nobody phone and good luck finding someone who will. So he told me to forge his name and I advised him that if I did that I could lose my job. So he actually insisted that I forge his name and said lose your job. He was completely unpleasant from the time I walked in. He was rude and got loud at times. Then he actually called Advance and told them I refused to give him the parts when he already had the parts in his possession . I m pretty sure he don t treat ups and fed ex like that when he has to sign.

I first went to Cheseldine they were highly recommended and I was new to the area and didn't know who to trust with my vehicle that I admittedly know next to nothing about. They did a few things for my vehicle, including patching a tire leak. When I went to leave for work the next morning, that same tire was completely flat. I called Cheseldine, just to let them know there was a defect. Mr. Wayne came to my home immediately, inflated the flat to a driveable condition, and escorted me all the way back to the shop. And I haven't gone to anyone else since.I've taken multiple vehicles to them again and again for maintenance and they have never made me feel anything other than welcome and appreciated. They go the extra mile, everytime. Today, I needed 2 new tires. They had them finished, AND rotated the tires without me even asking, for better handling and safety, and at no extra cost. Their prices are exceptionally fair and I firmly believe they will never recommend unnecessary work.Their number one priority is the customer, not their bottom line.

This review may be on the long side, but it HAS to be said. I have been a customer at Cheseldine's for about ten years, and I have always loved their sense of community. Gary has always treated us like we're more than a business transaction; you can tell he truly cares about what he does. His work ethic has been transferred to his employees, as evidenced today. We have a wheelchair lift in our van that broke yesterday and needs significant repairs to make it usable for our daughter. We usually have it serviced in Richmond, but after the entire day trying to reach them, we discovered they're no longer doing business. Although I don't expect that Cheseldine's does much of this type of work, I figured I'd try because they're make-it-happen kind of people (because they CARE). Well, Gary's on a much-deserved vacation, so I spoke to Wayne to tell him about my situation, and he asked me to bring it in to see if the ONE guy with experience with wheelchair lifts could take a look to see what it'd need.I took it over and explained what needed to be done to Wayne and the mechanic because Wayne recognized it was outside of his experience and didn't want to waste my time. This mechanic has worked on our type of lift and believes he can fix it. He needs to determine the availability of the parts and give me a timeline.Whether they can do the work, this customer service is exemplary! Wayne's personal life experience has helped him be more compassionate for people with mobility issues, and he's doing everything he can to help us out.I hope Gary enjoys his vacation, knowing that the business is in good hands. Thanks for the community of caring people you have working there. We're glad to be working with you!

This place is so so cold. We are driving right now to Dallas Texas. I called to get my coolant checked and the guy said to drop the car off. We ask to check the coolant? then I said we have no place to go we do not live in the area we are on our way to Dallas Texas and he started explaining how hard he works and the policies and that we have to follow company policy. We hung up while he was talking. We are still on our way to another place. That guy said OMG YES stop by we ll get you guys on the road to get home safe. Two very different demeanor

As a family on a tight budget and a small child, safety and a reliable car are very important, especially when your car helps you bring in income. After calling around, we called Cheseldine to check their prices for our oil change and tire rotation. They quoted us $20 less than their competition even after the other guys' so called coupons, and that was their normal price. We love the quality of service you guys provide and the peace of mind knowing that we can trust you guys. Thank you so much for all you do!

Cheseldine was going to be my last stop, before I ended up trading in my vehicle. I called and spoke with Gary, about my unfortunate dealings and all of the work I had done on my vehicle. Gary was patient and took the time to listen. My husband and I dropped it off and Gary, Wayne, and another service writer listened to what problems my vehicle was displaying. I was told they would need my vehicle for about a week. True to their word , my vehicle was fixed within a week. I would like to thank the Technicians, Gary, Wayne and anyone else who helped fix my vehicle. I would highly recommend taking your vehicle to Cheseldine.

First I took my car to another shop (hadn't heard of Cheseldine yet) for what I thought was an alignment issue. Well that place called me back and quoted me over $1200 of "front end work" that need to be replaced in my truck. They also said I "desperately" needed new tires. Being a somewhat of a car mechanic I didn't really believe them so I took my truck to Cheseldine by a recommendation from a friend. I told them what I thought was going on and they were happy to take a look. They said they thought that was a lot of work to be done and THEY wanted to take down the price for me. Never have I been to a car place that wanted to lower my price. That was very impressive to me. Long story short they said the other car shop really didn't know what they were doing because none of that work needed to be done and all I need was an alignment and I didn't "desperately" need new tires. I couldn't of been happier to save that $1200 bucks I could have spent on work that didn't need to be done. Their customer service is awesome, they are speedy, and produce quality maintenance. I will ALWAYS take my car to Cheseldine. Wish I could give more than 5 stars.

AMAZING. I was calling around to different tire shops to get quotes for new tires on my vehicle and Cheseldine was the ONLY place that took the time to give me about 5 options that all ranges in price value. He explained the ups and downs to each one and was very patient with me until I picked one. The tires were shipped to him within one day and the next day, I dropped my car off at 4pm and picked it up the next morning at 9am with 4 new tires and an oil change complete! I am very happy with the service I received and the friendliness off all of the staff at Cheseldine. I look forward to making this my new auto shop for all of my cars needs.

As a new Maryland resident, I was shopping for the perfect vehicle maintenance location. I hit the jackpot, being a gearhead so very particular to anyone servicing my cars. Had to get my Subaru inspected. The team here are fantastic. Not only do they ensure public safety. They truly are thorough and professional. Will always go back and highly recommend them.

I made an appointment for today at 10am to have an oil change done and tire rotation. I normally don't sit and wait but today I did. I was kind of dreading my decision to wait but my service was done in no time and I was back on the road within an hour!

Great service and price, as well as honest people. I had surgery scheduled the day my car broke down. They fixed the car so promptly and allowed me to keep it on the lot until I was discharged from the hospital. Don't hesitate to bring your car here. I was referred by friends who highly rated them.

Took my new (to me) 2000 jeep wrangler in for a MD state inspection yesterday. I was told that everything passed and I was good to go. Not a bad price for the inspection so I signed and was out the door. This morning I was driving to work and noticed that my soft top was flapping significantly as I drove down route 235. When I get to work I find that the entire top was placed on incorrectly. There are 3 holes in the soft top now (which was brand new). It took me 25 minutes to remove and then correctly place my soft top back on. When I called to complain about the top, the manager told me that he spoke with the mechanic who performed the inspection and he stated that he did not remove the top. The manager stated that he believed his mechanic, which I took as him claiming I can't see that the top was completely disassembled and reassembled incorrectly. I am very disappointed in this service and was a repeat customer in the past. Not now...will be going to Tom Hodges the next time I need work done on my vehicles. They have much better reviews online.

Found a screw in my truck tire today took it into Cheseldine in Leonardtown to have them check it out. All the COVID 19 precautions where in place. Took truck into service bay came out a little while later and said the screw didn t puncture the tire. Pulled the screw put more air in the tire to be sure no leak. Asked how much he said don t worry about it. Will continue to take our to Cheseldine for service Great experience as always

My family has been taking our cars to Cheseldine for several years, and I will continue. We have sent many folks there who have all told us they loved it and are now sending their family/friends there as well. They always go above and beyond for their customers, they make us feel like family too. We have had strange situations with our vehicles, but they were always able to sort out what was going on and get it fixed in a timely matter. They explain everything so you know exactly what is happening and what it will take to fix it. They fix when they can, instead of always replacing right away with new which is what so many other places do just to make more money. They always stand behind their work. To me Cheseldine shows that it's their customers who matter first and foremost. Thank you Cheseldine, for caring in so many ways.

Yes, that is the reason. As I stated when I showed up and explained why it had been done prior to an inspection. It s brand new and I didn t need an inspection. You take the time to do a 2 hour inspection when you could of said from the beginning they were too dark. Not waste my time and money in the process. Very poor service. So luckily the state and MVA understood the situation unlike your failure of an inspection station. Got the tags and all is great.

I called to get the price of how much it would be for the labor of getting my brakes done since I have my own parts. Person on the phone puts me on hold then comes back to say his boss said they won t install customer parts. Although my boyfriend got his brakes done less than a month ago and brought his own parts, which he does EVERY single time he gets ANY work here done at all. Then proceeds to tell me it will be $300 with their parts which is INSANE. They re not honest people, I wouldn t recommend coming here for anything more than an oil change, if even that.Edit: since you replied, you can be as baffled as you d like at me calling you all what you are, DISHONEST. It s been your policy for over 30 years but you pick and choose when you d like to follow it. It was less than a month ago he had his own parts installed, but now all of a sudden you haven t done it in 30 years Laughable.

This business just wants your money. This is exactly the type of repair shop to avoid. If you want to give them your money, and blindly trust someone to fix your car no matter what it costs you, then go here. Otherwise, based on my experience, I recommend steering clear. To sum it up, guy said a wheel bearing needed to be changed when it had actually just been changed. This is because, like many shops, they just want your money. Safe to assume this is the type with the "oil change special" that is designed to get you that oil change, plus an estimate of $1,000 worth of additional unnecessary repairs. Also note: front desk guy will be real quick to have an attitude if you don't just smile and nod at whatever they tell you...Many other competing shops around are more deserving of your business.Update 5/31: I see that a lot of people have viewed this. I don't like what happened there, and don't normally even write reviews. I will say, it is a heck of a coincidence that a wheel bearing that was recently changed and made no noise before going to this shop suddenly made noise upon leaving. Thing is, being around cars and having built a few myself, a wheel bearing really shouldn't even be something a shop can sabotage. Wild idea. But the problem was really the confrontational attitude they gave me to go along with it. I did replace the bearing again and have had no issues... would that change if I brought it back here again??Anyways, I'm not trying to wreck their business. Maybe I caught them on a bad day. Make your own decision and maybe there are some positive reviews out there.-Matt

Amazing service. Had two inspections and an exhaust leak fixed. Wayne was extremely helpful and honest along the way and was always friendly at any time of day, the mechanic Paul walked me out to my vehicle and explained every item that needed fixing plainly and honestly. The guys there charged me fairly for what needed to be done and didnt run me up for things I didnt need. I will always be happy to make them my regular garage and will ALWAYS come back if I need any help for anything.Chesildine is the best!
