Frozen on this screen when I pulled up on Friday, 16 February. No matter what tried, touchscreen or scanner, nothing moved it off the frozen screen.I really wish there was a status list somewhere showing which self-service VEIPs are broken even if it was just user updated.

Easy piece of work done. Spent about 5 minutes waiting for vehicles ahead of me and a quick follow instructions on the touch screen. Wait times may differ and if there is a long queue of vehicles, you decide whether you would prefer to wait or to leave and come back another time. In my first experience there was no one ahead of me so I was done as quick as a blink, my second experience was just a 5 minute wait for others to finish using the kiosk. The kiosk gives a print out of the report. My recommendation is that MVA should put up a shelter to protect customers when it rains, so that drivers can still use the kiosk during rainy days. As at May 2023.

Went to Beltsville from Silver Spring and the machine doesn't work. Don't waste your time and gas .They only have one machine. They say it uses Windows 7 and crashes all the time.

Very convenient. Located in the parking lot closest to the road.Pull up to the kiosk with the driver's side door next to and barely past the kiosk. You'll need to be able to bend down low enough to see under your steering wheel. Then plug in the cord, much like connecting a toaster. Easy peasy!

When it's working properly, it's cheaper than the normal emissions test and super convenient. I'm a night owl, so being able to take care of my inspection when I want to (and without crowds) is awesome. That being said, sometimes it doesn't want to work properly.

Said my vehicle had to run 100 miles to get tested. Came back and said overnight maintenance and would take a little while. Never came back & on top of that it wants to say out of service someone is looking through the video cameras and wanted to play a little game today. Sucks I driver over anHour for this at 12:00am- 1:30am.

I like the idea of 24-hr self service. Although, I am very happy not to have to go in bitter cold, wet, windy weather. I would make two changes: put a small light on the cable that goes near the gas pedal. It is pretty dark there. And, add some kind of shelter covering the area between and above the machine and the driver side door.

Went earlier and it was too sunny, the barcode doesn't scan so I have to manually enter my info. There was an issue with the connection and didn't complete my test. Came back in the middle of the night to try again. Wasted half an hour waiting for nothing.

Short line moved fast. The process is super user friendly and seamless and cheaper than going to a station for people to manage for you.

Easy peezy self-service. Open 24/7, so no excuses for not completing your emissions on time. They could add some more lighting, though.

Fast and easy to use. Simple steps to follow and has visuals. I highly recommend to go during off hours or you will wait in line for a while.

Very fast, and easy do it yourself service! Way better experience than going to the inspection station. Machine prompts are easy to follow with pictures showing very simple instructions. In and out in 5 minutes.

This came in a clutch and 24hrs to. So very convenient and easy to use. Just follow what it tells you to do on screen then pay and door pops open, plug it up and let the machine do it's work and in and out. Great job Beltsville MVA!!

This option was absolutely fantastic! It's located in the parking lot of Maryland DMV on Rte 1 near Powdermill Rd. I was skeptical at 1st because I never used it but it was great.I went around 10PM and there was no one there when I arrived. Only one person showed up afterwards. However if your familiar with the location it is dark all around, except where the Kiosk is so if that is worrisome I would bring someone with you if going at night. It is very straight forward and goes step by step during the entire process. It may seem annoying but it ensures that you make no mistakes. If your not familiar with the OBD2 port which in most vehicles is located under the steering wheel I recommend asking someone like a mechanic, friend or research online and look at a video for your make model and year before you go. some have an acces door covering it others are just open depending on make and model of car.By knowing the location of the port before hand will allow the process to go smoothly especially at night so your not fumbling around trying to locate it. The port is not designed to plug in any way so pay attention to the way you plug goes in so you don't damage the pins in your port otherwise it won't be able to read correctly. Also bring your emissions notice so you can scan it, if it's messed up provide your tag number and the last few numbers of your vin.You can also take a pic of your registration which will have all that information.Knowing all this will help this process go quickly. It takes about 15 minutes or less and you can pay for it using a Debit or Credit card ONLY No Cash. It's also a reduced cost so it only cost $10.00 for using the Kiosk.Remember this is an Emissions test only. The main issue is CEL. (Check Engine Light) about 90% of the issues that cause a CEL are related to emissions, MAF Sensor, Oxygen Sensor, Gas cap issues which will trigger CEL because the car sees this as a EVAP leak.So if you have a CEL get it repaired or buy a OBD2 reader so you know what the code is and can get it fixed. Also check your gas cap if you have a CEL a lsoe gas cap can cause a CEL.By taking the cap off and then putting it back on correctly will sometimes clear the CEL. But not immediately. If it's only a loose gas cap that's causing it your car will have to be driven and go through a drive cycle which is different for each vehicle once you meet your cars drive cycle if it was the gas cap causing it it will clear the CEL.clearing it manually using a OBD2 reader may not work because the codes are stored and even if fully erased may reappear during a OBD2 diagnostic or when going to the Kiosk once you start driving. So if you have a CEL get it repaired before going. This is what the port usually looks like good luck

Everything worked great, no issue with the touch screen like people have been saying, no issue with payment, no issue with the kiosk not functioning or OBD plug issues. 5min and done. I will continue to use this kiosk from now on.

Nice quick and easy. Make sure you find where your OBD2 port is first though.

Fast and easy. There was no wait when I was there. Just pull your car into the allowed space and follow the on screen instructions. After payment the box with the monitoring device will open. You attach the monitoring device onto your car OBD II port which is typically right above your pedals and below your steering wheel

Went around 8 o clock on a Friday. There were only two cars ahead of me and the line moved pretty quick. The screen glitched for a second while it was my turn, so I was worried, but it was able to reset itself and once I began the process was pretty quick and easy.

Update: As I was driving away, a pickup truck arrived with 2 guys who worked on the machine and fixed it on Saturday of Labor Day weekend. MVA seems serious about trying to keep these devices working, although more status info on the website and machine would help a lot.Machine is completely broken, with operating system error "No signal input type D-SUB" on the screen. The MVA website gives no status update, no indication when they'll fix it, or how to find a machine that works. But I'm sure MVA's fee system works perfectly to issue fines to everyone who can't get a VEIP test due to their failure.

The OBD2 reader is generally by your left knee. It's keyed. If it won't go in try it the other way. Do not proceed to come knock on my window and ask me if I know how car do when I have to awkwardly explain that yes I do and I have been loudly live commentarying your failure to use the kiosk to my wife on WhatsApp.

This is a great help but there should be more than one.1. There were 10 cars in line and the time to clear it was an hour.2. It was in the rear of the parking lot. I think at night it is not safe here.

I would only recommend going if you are not in a time crunch. Some people may struggle using the kiosk causing a extra time delay. With that being said the kiosk explains directions thoroughly. Just have your information ready to put in

I guess the secret s out. This used to be the kiosk with no wait. Now, on a weeknight, there were six cars in front of me when I arrived and it took about half an hour for me to get to the kiosk. The great thing is it works fast and it s 24 hours. I would definitely use this place again.
