Unhappy at another facility real close to Gary's place made us experience this quality resort. Being a vacationer/now family at Long Beach Motor Inn is all due to Gary's Mom teaching him the right way to do business after coming to the USA from Quebec in the 70's. He has continued to let his mother shine in the exceptional way he carries himself, his unwavering business sense and his ability to treat his guests the way they treat him. Respect is number one in life. Unlike the rest of this fading world. Most believe in today's world that you should be able to expect things to be done your way. If you are older or experienced enough you would understand that this resort is a page out of the past history book. Honest, real accommodations with only a piece of history that Gary provides. Things done the way they should be done. He doesn't change for popular demand but demands unchanged for his guests that seek what he offers. If this resort is not the right fit for you so be it but for some it is what we look for. Quiet, comfortable, and friendly surroundings with an ocean breeze and the gentle roar of the Atlantic waves. Gary and Susan due to the tutelage of Gary's mom, they provide all that is necessary to rest and recover from the busy lifestyle any individual deals with. Kudos to the Grossman's for making Long Beach Motor Inn our kind of place for as long as time allows. John and DianeRooms: Very comfortable

NOTE: 5/5 REVIEWS ARE FROM ONE-TIME REVIEWERS, LIKELY FRIENDS. VERY MISLEADING*We paid top dollar to stay at this place because it is peak season to be here. We were here on an impromptu trip to visit family. We passed Long Sands Motor Inn several times before arriving because the lights on the sign were UNLIT! Once at the office, we let them know and were told they don't turn their sign lights on during the busy season. We were let into the office area and promptly CHASTISED for showing up outside the one-hour check-in window. (We MISTAKENLY set the wrong check-in time because the site used MILITARY TIME, thereby sending us there at 05:00 which is a very honest mistake, Mr. Grossman!!!) Gary also reprimanded us for using a third-party online booking app as it forces them to raise their rates to pay the fees they have to pay out for the reservations. We were kept in the office for what seemed like a long time after a very grueling day with family to get registered, as we were given all of the rules and regulations of the property, even given a slide presentation of all the hundreds of rules they have in place. We were told if we needed anything all we had to do was ask and it would be provided to us because they can't keep rooms stocked with these items. Also we would have to request a housekeeper because they wouldn't be automatically entering the rooms to clean them during the day. The proprietor then had to go into our room ahead of us in order to turn on the POWER for us. We just wanted to get into the room and relax. Once settling into our room we were in need of ice. Went back to the office to find out where the ice machine was, and told since Covid, the closest ice could be found somewhere down the road!!! (How does everyone else on Long Sands Beach deal with the ice situation 3 years post-Covid???) The next morning, I went to the office to ask for coffee for our IN-ROOM COFFEE MAKER! We were then told they "don't have a license to dispense coffee in the state of Maine!!!" Among the list of rules, if we went to the beach we were asked to rinse off with the hoses provided outside each room. This includes any beach chairs, etc. Then we were asked if we had any beach chairs in the car. (No, we responded, we are here to visit family and don t have beach chairs.) The room, for the price, was very sub-standard. Seventies style wallpaper, furnishings, etc. Much worse, a very strong musty smell in the room, the carpet was damp. The small fridge was not cold enough to MAKE our own ice. *Be very careful to read the proprietor s responses to any negative reviews. They openly denigrate their customers online and accuse them wrongly. Proprietors: Go watch your videos more carefully, and don t make stuff up about your guests! For sure, this one wins as of the worst properties we ever visited.Rooms: The room, for the price, was very sub-standard. Seventies style wallpaper, furnishings, etc. Much worse, a very strong musty smell in the room, the carpet was damp. The small fridge was not cold enough to MAKE our own ice.

Location was perfect. The owner (Gary) was nice enough. However, I will not be returning. The smell of the room was terrible, small stained towels, the light in the bathroom stopped working the first day, the beds were not comfortable, the sheets and pillows felt like cardboard. We did get locked out and he opened the door for us, very nice. It was late at night. We also lost the key and was charged 450$. I get we lost the key we should pay, BUT 450$????

We booked this room months ago. When we arrived the owner showed us video footage and facial screenshots of other guests faces. He showed us their over the top and alarming security system in the most unsettling way. He makes every guest sign a sheet that s left out for all to view with full name, full address, make, model, year and license plate of the car. He reported keeping a database of faces of guests and license plates of cars. After check in he verbally reviewed a laundry list of previously undisclosed rules such as showering before entering the hotel room, no water bottles by the pool. We opted to walk and find another location based on the obvious invasion of privacy. After we left we read other reviews and I m so relieved we didn t stay there. Very unsettling and seemingly unsafe.

My mother in law and I just stayed for 2 nights and three days. I honestly can t say enough wonderful things about our stay! Our room was immaculate! Our beds, so comfortable we slept so soundly! And our host Gary was so accommodating with asking if we needed anything every time he saw us. He provides the most relaxing atmosphere for you that you feel like you are the only ones he s catering too. I would stay here again in a heartbeat! Can t wait to make my next reservations!Georgina Frese

A nice clean, relaxing place to stay. The owner Gary is meticulous in maintaining this motel. Close to center of York and all the attractions and restaurants. Walk across the street to the beach. Pool is immaculate. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Microwave and fridge, kitchenette is very handy for quick access to snacks. Had a great time, can't wait to go back soon.

We enjoyed our stay and Gary was very attentive and helpful. He is definitely a hard worker!! If you are looking for a place convenient to the beach and within walking distance to decent food etc than this is great fit. Room is clean and kids stayed entertained with the shuffle/tetherboard and pool. No drinks allowed in pool area which I found to be a little bonkers. We were asked to leave with our ice water but respected the rules. Would stay here again for sure!!!!!

I was recommended by the reviewer below (Mr Byron Cleveland) he is my mothers partner. I am so glad the Anchorage Inn manager Wayne canceled my reservations for the Fourth of July and tried to ruin not only my holiday but also my son s fourth birthday. (The Ancorage Inn is next door too ) I am mentioning this because this is how I found Gary the owner of this wonderful Inn. I cannot say enough beautiful words about this lovely man and his girlfriend Susan. He owns and operates this lovely Inn all by himself, right there that says what a brilliant and amazing person he is. To wear all hats and take pride in his business is hard to find! He cleans the rooms, checks people in, parks cars for also beach parking when the beach parking is full. Do I really need to say and more?!!!! All these negative reviews are so false and I am so glad I did not do what everyone else normally would do and not take a chance on seeing for myself what type of place this was. This man is so caring and kind. He does not break any rules and it is his business so he wants to keep it that way and a lot of people are used to hotels that do not care if you break all the rules and sneak people in your rooms, smoke in the rooms or on the property ect. If you are not respectful this is not the place for you. Honesty will get you very far and asking permission is all I had to do with Gary. (With having my family come and visit and park at the hotel for a $20 fee) Be honest and kind. You know something, this place beats any other newer built place with all the fancy amenities, I was not just a room number to Gary. He connects with people and his guests unlike most places. I could write a book about how lovely this man is and what a hard worker he is. I look up to him for being such a hard worker and taking pride in this Inn who was left to him by his mother who worked so hard on creating what you see today. He loves his Business and for that I admire him. He treated my family with respect and welcomed us in with open arms. Check in is thorough like one negative reviewer mentioned but what is the problem with him doing his job? Also know if you book the room under your name have a credit card to match you or your spouse going with you. Another idea is you can pay with cash. I am mentioning this because some bad reviews reflect this situation and then they were not able to stay. I had no problems. Thank you Gary. I miss the Inn already. I can t wait to stay again soon. Love,Ashley, Alexander and Alex.

Musty rooms with lots of red ants. No ice machine on the premises. Unreasonable guest policies. The owner is unprofessional and unwelcoming. The proximity to the beach is the best part of this place. Will not be returning.Noteworthy details: Not a great place to stay if you have kids or a family

We have been staying for years at the Long Beach Motor Inn. Gary is the best. He is very accommodating and truly wants you to enjoy your stay by relaxing and taking in all the beauty that surrounds you. The pool is gorgeous. I can t say a enough words about Gary and how he treats you like family. I highly recommend the Long Beach Motor Inn for its charm, beauty, relaxation and the love and care you receive. Thank you Gary for many years of love and relaxation. We would never stay any place else.

The Inn Was Incredible!!! The grounds surroundings were beyond compare. Our room was perfect and breakfast in the morning on the deck was our favorite. Our kitchen was great and our beds and bath were so clean. Gary was wonderful and attended to all our needs during this hard time of Covid. The nights were so quiet, and we slept with the windows open. To be able to hear the sounds of the ocean across the street was so Amazing. Such a peaceful place is so hard to find. We Found It!!!! WE found a friend in Gary and we were so happy he shared his home with us. Thank you for such a unbelievable vacation. We never thought a place like yours was still here . We thank you from the bottom of our hearts, and can't wait to come back. Thank you again Gary, and may God Bless. You have made our vacation the best ever.Gayle and Willy Blackwood

Nice rooms, and clean and great location. But was informed we where in charge of taking out our own trash.. even with Covid that is not okay. Also there are microphones on the grounds so watch what you say. We where informed about this by the owner when he overheard our private conversation. Oh, and someone tried opening our door not once, but twice in the middle of the night.I just don t think these things are okay, there is a certain about of privacy one expects when on vacation and paying to stay somewhere. Microphones on the grounds so Gary can listen to what the guest are saying is just not okay . Who knows if he has them in the rooms.

Owner manager was extremely rude upon entering office. We have never been treated so terribly. We left and booked another hotel with a lovely quiet ocean view with a terrace and gracious owners at The Grand View. It was truly better on the edge of the beach. Less congested and peaceful.

Beautiful, quaint, clean, nice pool, fire pits, and Gary is a wonderful host. Very knowledgeable about the York area, the pool, and basically runs this whole place himself. Directly across the street from Long Sands Beach. Would recommend and return.

Location is perfect. Owner was rude and argumentative. Room was described as garden view but no garden...lawn around back. 1st floor room was musty... owner said I should have expected that with first floor on the ocean. Ceiling fan helped so it's probably a ventilation issue. Kitchenette sink tiny.

I had a wonderful retreat away at this well managed and landscaped motel. Gary was very friendly and accommodating.. He even offered to find me a coffee maker for my room and had have me a pear from his beautiful garden! The beach and restaurant were right across the street. Then he suggested a boat trip to nubble lighthouse which was amazing. My only down point was no smoking in the property and that is not his fault! That is a state ordinance! Also for those of you who complained about the woman at the desk who was mean or home up on you when you called... She had Alzheimer's and she has unfortunately passed away. Gary is keeping his mother's traditions going. Gary, your mom would be so proud of you!

Room was fine, what you would expect for a beach side motel. Check in was awkward and lengthy. We booked via booking.com, room we requested (ocean view) was moved on us. And we were instructed that he would tell notify booking.com we were no-shows as we were standing there in the office checking in. So weird experience.

On our first trip to Maine, almost 20 years ago, we saw this hotel and it looked quite nice with the exception of the scary guard at the entrance, but a secure place to stay is not a bad idea, so we thought we would call them for our next trip. The next year, when we called this hotel to ask about rates and availability I was told, "We do not give that information by phone." I told her we lived in the Adirondack Mountains and were planning to come the week of June 26 and she replied, "I already told you we do not give information over the phone!" .. and then she hung up on me. It is my understanding that IF you stay there and she likes you, you're golden; This from vacationers we have talked to while walking the beach.

awful awful awful... need I say more? I NEVER write reviews but I'm currently writing one from the inside of this extremely overpriced room. Not only can you feel every spring from the mattress the pillows are thin and will cost you more in chiropractic care then the hotel room is worth. Check out is at 10 am, and the gentleman wants $20 to park for the rest of the day, LIKE what? most area hotels include that as a perk. Clearly nothing has been updated since the place was built...which wouldn't be an issue if the price was much lower... disappointed and definitely will NOT be back, my car is more comfortable!

This is by far the worst place I've ever stayed. The rooms are out dates, the beds are hard, pillows are flat. The management is more worried about the sand on you're feet then anything else. If he sees you (and he will) he will come running and tell you to hose them off.The room it's self is way out dated. If you have a extra car it is $20.00 per day extra. You are told to pay cash.If the a.c. works it is very loud. The towels are SMALL.Everone that we ran into had something bad to say about the owner.I've stayed in inn that where RIGHT on the ocean for less money per night then this place, and where WAY BETTER. At least they had coffee for there guest in the morning....I love maine but I will never stay there again.... I would not even give it the one star I had to give it...

Mr. Gary, owner was super nice. Rooms were clean, great shower. New pool was just put in, too chilly to use. Return visit? Sure.

You can tell it's very well maintained. The ocean is right across the street. There's a kitchenette so you don't have to eat all your meals out. I highly recommend this place. I will be a repeat customer. Till next summer.

Great location and cost effective but the manager (owner?) was pushy and neurotic. Facilities are very dated and musty.Owners response is untrue and typical of personality; no surprise. I wonder way his reviews are so stark...
