Such a nice place! The new bathhouse was the nicest I ve ever seen and they keep it so clean! Beautiful grass, fast easy to connect WiFi, nice pool, friendly helpful staff, and good prices! We took advantage of the FREE bus (that has a stop right in the campground) to bar harbor and greatly appreciate it!The only downside is some of the campsites are somewhat close to the main road and there is some noise from it.Overall a great experience and we would highly recommend! Thank you smugglers den!Nearby activities: Hiking and shopping

My husband and I did a 5 night stay at Smuggler's Den Campground from 7/30-8/4. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. The campground was clean, especially the bathroom and shower facilities. We did check out the new bath house they built which was huge and immaculate, but since we were staying closer to the main office it was easier to use the smaller ones, and while not new and shiny, were also clean and had great water pressure! The sites were well developed (we stayed at site 11, a 20/30 amp and water site for tents and pop ups). It was a large site located directly behind the camp office and small bath house. I am often skeptical of taking a site so close to the bathrooms, but they had the quietest closers on the bathroom doors which was amazing! The views right from our site were also stunning. They take their quiet hours seriously which was wonderful for us, with full days of hiking and exploring ahead. The location is also very convenient. About a 25 minute drive from Bar Harbor, but so much to do right in the immediate area of the campground, swimming at Echo Lake beach is just a 15-20 minute walk or short drive away. Would definitely recommend this campground to couples, families and singles alike. We hope to be back soon!

Spent 3 days in this campground. Nice location, great amenities, quite at night. tried the new shower room, really clean and roomy, just need a little more walk. I saw a propane refill station next to the office but it is not in service. I had to get my tank refilled at a shell gas station( turn left at the exit, keep driving until you see a traffic light intersection). They sell lobsters in the store at reasonable price, they are way better deal than the restaurants'.

We camped in our RV a few nights and had a wonderful stay. The entire campground was well kept and the bathhouses were very clean! The pool, playground and basketball court looked great and was utilized by many. It was very quiet at night. Highly recommend.

Smugglers Den was perfect for our weekend trip to Acadia! Close enough to day hike in the park or get dinner in Bar Harbor. Sites and facilities were clean and well taken care of. Virtual check in was a nice perk because we arrived after the office closed. The site we stayed at was exactly as described on the website in terms of level of privacy and views which we appreciated. We will be back (:

"Rooms" were spacious! Overall tent sites were great! "Premium" sites had more privacy than the open ones you drive past but were very close and did not have much between you and your neighbors. Lack of grill at the campsite (there is a fire pit) made it a bit tough to cook.Showers/Restroom facilities were very clean and looked newly built. Check in/out was super easy! The store had a good variety of things you need/may have forgotten. It may not be on the "popular" side for attractions, but is a short drive to most things you're going to want to do anyway.

Great campground! The campground store sells wood and also many items if you happen to forget anything you need. Great location as well: near the park, plenty of restaurants, cute coffee shop down the road, and a nice walk to Echo Lake Beach from the campground. Clean bathrooms with hot showers. There's a big sink to wash dirty dishes. Would definitely return to this campground.

We had a great experience here. The grounds and facilities are immaculate. The campsites have been developed very nicely, The playground and pool are great for the kids , and they can free range! On Sunday there was a musician who entertained all afternoon :)Nearby activities: Conveniently located for hiking and walking trails to enjoy the beauty of Acadia, town of bar harbor and other local towns with ocean views and marinas.

We stayed here on our Maine vacation this year and really enjoyed it. It's a little bit of a drive to Bar Harbor and some of the main attractions on the island, but it's honestly kind of nice to be on the quiet side of the island. Nearby Southwest Harbor is also really cute. I would say there is an average amount of privacy for the tent sites. The bathrooms were cleaner and nicer than I would have expected, and the prices were very fair for the area.

Stay away from this place! It's all mine now, and i don't want to share! LOL Such an absolutely gorgeous and peaceful place. The staff is absolutely lovely. The campground is charming and surrounded with wild edibles of all sorts. Easy access to several great hiking trails and sites. There's literally nothing bad to say about this place. The people who were there camping are just as amazing as the people who run the place. It even has a nice little shop inside the office with odds and ends for your adventure. I totally recommend the black cherry soda they sell, as well as those delicious maple leaf candles. Can't wait to go back.

Well equipped campground in a fantastic location. We loved walking to echo beach lake - one of the only swimming spots in Acadia National Park. The free bus stops at the campground office which is super convenient to get to places like Bar Harbor. Our pitch was shaded and felt impressively private, even though the place was fully booked and pitches weren t huge.

Very nice, clean campground in the heart of Acadia National Park. Some of the sites were a little close together, but we were basically just sleeping there and touring the park so it was fine for this type of trip. The sites that say they have a wooden pad are the larger sites. Laundry, and store on site and very nice. Friendly people, very good experience overall.

Great campground. All services were booked online and they share a lot of information in advance. The store is very well stocked. The amenities were great and the bathroom were very clean. The space is great for dogs too our loved the fields! The adjacency with Echo lake was great we were able to explore that part of Acadia just walking around. The Mountain View cabin look like would be a great place to stay and would consider staying there in the future the view is gorgeous (Pictures attached)Great stay all around.

Great camping spot a and everything is very well kept. Camp store has a good bit to offer if you are in a pinch and forgot some of the little things. Pool was heated and was a good temperature compared to the outside air (68). Bathrooms and showers were very clean and one of the best/cleanest in my experience. The campsites themselves were clean and clear. Playground area was great and even had sports gear like baskeyballs and volleyball to play. Definitely on my top 5 list of campgrounds I've stayed at.

We recently stayed in one of the tent sites and had a great experience. Overall, we felt that other campers were quiet and respectful. The bathrooms were clean and showers were nice and hot. We were thankful to grab ice and wood from the office, one less thing to worry about! We had to miss one night of our reservation and the staff was very understanding and made it super easy for us to check in the next day. Great location, not far from Bar Harbor or Acadia - we're glad we chose Smuggler's Den over other campsites as they were much more out of the way and closer to loud highways. We will definitely stay here again!

Really great campground! This was our first time staying here and loved it. The sites are spacious (we did have a premium tent site, since we did a last-minute reservation), the restrooms and showers were clean. The kids enjoyed playing in the pool and the playground. We did have bikes with us, which were perfect for this campground and made the trips to the main bathroom a lot easier The location is great, too, as it's close to a lot of beautiful hiking trails. We look forward to coming again!

I stayed at a non-electric site in June 2021. All of the sites around me seemed very level and well maintained. One night it continuously downpoured and the site did not hold any water and I was able to stay dry in my tent. Staff was super friendly and helpful as well! It was about a 15 minute drive to Bar Harbor, but plenty to do within a 5 min drive. Bus service wasn t available at the time of my travel, but believe it s back up and stopping at Smugglers Den.I traveled from Indianapolis and had never been to this area before. Will certainly be visiting again!

Smuggler's Den was fantastic! My friends and I had a wonderful stay. I appreciated the easy check-in process with clear directions and resources (map, reservation, etc.) The camp store was convenient and helpful, and the bathrooms/showers were clean. The grounds were kept really well, and someone would drive by offering firewood which I thought was a nice gesture.

Amazing environment, amazing staff!! Pool is so very refreshing! Going to take a walk down to the lake and do some fishing in the morning, maybe some fish, eggs and sausage! In a pull through full hook up site that truly is glamping at its finest. They don t deserve anything less than a five star rating!! I will have to add photos in the morning.

This is a very nice campground well situated in the park. The shower is incredible, it looks like a pipe sticking out of the wall but when you turn it on and get that incredible pressure then who cares what it looks like! Laundry on site is reasonably priced, there s a trail that leads to echo lake about a mile away that s well worth the walk. Carriage trails are also accessible directly from the campground. The Wi-Fi is very poor, provided by an outside service provider, tango internet. We purchased a multi day pass and it never worked properly which was difficult as we re self employed and had work to do. Tech support was unable to resolve the issue. The staff at the campground is very accommodating.

Lovely camping site with wonderful staff and most importantly, clean bathrooms. The camping spots are not terribly uncomfortable either. Not too many rocks on the ground if you sleep in a tent. Amazing wifi service as well!Their little store has many things you may need in a pinch. Sadly, what annoyed me during my stay was a group of douchey fratboys that kept being stupidly loud way past the quiet hours. It was quite unpleasant. I would have given 5 stars if quiet hours were enforced better.

Wow! What a find! Booked this campground 7 months prior to our stay but glad we did. Conveniently located in Southwest Harbor and mere minutes from shopping, dining, and recreation in Acadia National Park. Friendly staff welcomed us to the campground. We were surprised to find out we were on the Island Explorer Southwest Harbor bus line, which was just a quick 30 minute ride into Village Green in downtown Bar Harbor. You can leave your vehicle at the campground and take the shuttle to all of the popular spots. Campsites were well maintained and bathrooms were clean and accessible. Did a few loads of laundry in the laundry room on-site. Bring quarters and your own detergent and softener. Pool was refreshing and clean and my daughter enjoyed the slide. Take a hike out the back of the campground down to the beach at Echo Lake....great place to swim after a day of hiking. We took a short drive over to Long Pond-great place if you are a kayaker or SUP boarder. Southwest Foodmart IGA Grocery was right down the street for all your basic needs. Avoid the high lobster prices elsewhere and stop by Rodick's right across the street from the campground for $14.99 lobster dinners. The owner is a lobsterman and pulled our lobsters out of the harbor that morning! We enjoyed ours to-go back at the site. The town of Southwest Harbor is darling. Be sure to stop by the The Salt Shop for ice cream....we went two nights in a row! Looking for something quick to eat? Don't let "gas station pizza" deter you from Gott's Store, a short drive down Bass Harbor Road. The large pizza was HUGE and tasted amazing next to our campfire. The last night in town, we dressed up and went for cocktails at Little Fern Restaurant located in The Claremont Hotel & Resort nearby. They are open to the public and have breathtaking views of the harbor. Save your $ and head down the steps to the Batson River Fish Camp for dinner and Batson River craft beer/spirits. Overall, a wonderful vacation and Smuggler's Den was the perfect place to stay to wine, dine, and conveniently explore Acadia and the Bar Harbor area. We will be back!

Great camp ground. Staff is super friendly. Bathhouse is very clean. Sites are decent size. Only weird thing is they sell giant blocks of ice instead of cubes? Kinda hard to chip off ice and put in your drink. Other than that, great place and great location.

Loved our stay here! We drove from Georgia up to Maine with a couple of stops along the way. This is by far the best campground we stayed at the whole trip. The bathrooms were cleaned daily and the showers had plenty of privacy and hot water. Definitely will be staying here again

Camped at Smuggler s Den after Acadia NP was closed due to government shutdown. We ended up working on Cooksey Drive Overlook. The campground hosts were very accommodating and made room for all of us. We completely enjoyed the stay.
