I arrived at this beautiful location to do Hair services for a bridal party on the night of the rehearsal dinner. This was my first time at the resort . I have to say this is a beautiful place. The staff we're All dressed in uniform. The grounds were impeccable. The place was just a delight. I watched staff cater to clients needs. I was greeted by staff every time I walked by someone. I was completely blown away.

We chose Spruce Point for it s dog friendly rooms and location. We found the staff warm and friendly. The rooms are cabins and as some other reviewer said, it isn t the fittings that draw you here. It is a nice location and has a lot of space between the cabins and lodge. We are a few times at the Salty Stag and the blueberry pancakes are the hit of the menu. Everyone on staff worked hard to make people comfortable. We didn t find it too busy. The pool is closed for renovations so that would have been good to know in advance. We also found the construction on Grandview a hassle. The trucks blocked travel and it wasn t the most relaxing to have the large trucks in the road and navigating a narrow path. The grounds are well maintained and it was easy to walk the dogs around the property. The room; it was a one bedroom with a nice deck. There was a modern tv and small fridge for cold items. The rest of the kitchen items didn t work properly or were too out of date to use. We didn t cook in the cabin. We used the AC since it was a little stuffy and didn t have great ventilation in the room. The AC worked well. The furniture was older and in moderate condition. The housekeeper visited daily and towels were refreshed. The carpet needed a full washing and vacuuming before our visit. The Grandview Deck was a nice place for breakfast or drinks. The families seemed to enjoy the pool and on site activities.Spruce Point is a try Maine gem with very kind service.Rooms: Basic cabinWalkability: Walk to town or trolley

After spending some wonderful vacations years ago, we were excited to go to Spruce Point Inn again this year. What a horrible disappointment. Our room, Sunset A, (which is nearly $1000/night), was disgusting. The fridge/freezer was broken and leaking all over a filthy, smelly, ancient rug, the electric burners were right over it and an inch from the sink. I actually received an electric shock trying to cook. The smell from this area was nauseating. The bed and box spring had clearly not been cleaned in at least a decade. There is a hole behind the box with utensils where at least one mouse was coming in and out. There is a constant flow of smelly water under the cabin where my husband slipped in the mud are there laundry facilities??? Whatever furniture there is was old and battered not antique or vintage. The pool was out of commission, and we were not advised until ten days before our arrival during the hottest week of the year (80-90 all week). The staff was rude and unfriendly, unlike the wonderful people years ago. The room was so filthy, we did not even unpack. For the rates they charge, one would expect no violations, decent maintenance, replacement of damaged and dangerous appliances, removal of a moldy, stained, smelly carpet, and at least clean accommodations. Even the robes they let us use were stained and yellow (we didn t touch them). Sadly, we will never be going to Spruce Point Inn again. See photo of broken, constantly leaking freezer/fridge/stove/sink nightmare. Sadly, Spruce Point Inn has gone from a premier harbor resort, to quite literally a dirty, unsanitary dump. Very, very sad. What a complete waste of hard earned money.Rooms: Dirty and smelly and in desperate need of renovations.Safety: Existing electrical violations need to be addressed.Noteworthy details: Not even 5 star Marriott oceanfront resorts charge these rates, and their accommodations are spotless and renovated every few years.

Spent a few nights at Spruce Point inn, decided to book the cottage with a sea view. Was disappointed, expected more for $500 a night, including the breakfast. This is an older establishment, unit was not soundproof and very basic.Could hear everything the people next-door were talking about. Restaurant on location was a little pricey, food was good but still pricey. Located right at the end of the cove, Bruce Bayharbor is a quaint fishing village about 2 mikes away. There are much nicer places to visit -

My wife and I just spent 3 nights here, and it was great! We highly recommend it. We stayed in the Crow's Nest room in the main building - seriously good views from the balcony. This place has everything you need: good on-site restaurant, fun bar, pool, playground, and a pretty nice fitness center. 10/10 would come here again. We particularly enjoyed the room with the fireplace on the main floor. It was a really nice place to read and drink some coffee in the morning.Do note that the building is historic and thus so are the rooms, but that's why we loved it. A lot of reviews talk about the rooms/property needing to be updated, but I completely disagree, and you should adjust your expectations accordingly.

This was an amazing place to stay, the grounds were incredible, the room was beautiful, we stayed in Balsam with a view and balcony. The complimentary boat ride was perfect. We stayed on October 4th 23. We even enjoyed the pool and hot tub. The dinner was good but expensive, I would eat out. The rib eye was so thin, it looked like a Salisbury steak. The food was good, nothing to rave about. The server was pleasant. The Chicken salad was ok. too chopped up not enough green leaf romaine. The room view and the grounds were so clean and there was so much to offer with the amenities. The 45 min boat ride was a great bonus. I think the report fee should be reduced when you reduce your amenities. For example, only one restaurant, one pool, no hot tub unless after 5 and no fire during week. Pool on ocean under construction. Sitting by the ocean and watching the sunset and waking up to the ocean in the AM on the balcony. We would go back just not eat there. I gave 4 because of the value of the food and overpriced. Great location and many shops and places to eat nearby.Rooms: Very spacious and clean the bathroom hat a jacuzzi tub, with a view of the ocean

Beautiful place. Nice historical inn. We stayed at a room in the inn up 2 flights of stairs (no elevator here) . The room was adequate. It is an old building so it's understandable that the floors are uneven and the door doesn't shut properly. Also no curtain or blind on the bathroom window. Had to hang a towel over the window when I showered. When we arrived without a reservation, the very nice young lady had no idea how to make our booking so asked me to do it online from my phone. We then had to wait 5-10 minutes before it showed up in her system. All the staff we encountered were friendly, nice and accommodating.Breakfast was excellent. but $6 for a glass of tea??I think the place is lovely , fantastic views. I just think everything including the prices of the rooms and food are way overpriced.

Great location! The oceanfront view and views of the sunset are incredibly beautiful. We really enjoyed our recent stay there. The staff are all wonderful and kind. We loved the picnic/boat ride that Spruce Point provides out to Burnt Island. There are plenty of activities on the resort that are included with the stay. Great place for kids!I really wish I could give Spruce Point 5 stars, but the room conditions need major improvement. Stayed in oceanfront property (Seabreeze) and was under impression it was one of their "renovated" rooms. I wouldn't stay in Seabreeze again. It's a shame because would love to go back and make it a tradition like other guests. Hopefully new management will consider renovating rooms to reflect the rates.

On August 7th I wrote the following to the General Manager of the Spruce Point in with no response. Even after completing the Inn's customer satisfaction survey there has been zero communications from the Inn. Poor form. My family and I left the resort out of complete frustration one day later. Do not waste your time there unless significant improvements are made."I am writing to express my profound disappointment regarding our current stay at the Spruce Point Inn. While we were eagerly looking forward to a rejuvenating and enjoyable experience at your esteemed waterfront resort, our stay has unfortunately fallen far short of our expectations. I feel it is important to bring these matters to your attention in the hope that they can be addressed promptly to improve the overall guest experience. One of the primary reasons we chose Spruce Point Inn was the promise of access to a range of amenities, particularly the docks for activities such as kayaking and fishing. Regrettably, we have encountered significant challenges in accessing these amenities. The requirement to schedule a trolley ride to access kayaks is inconvenient, and the limitation to a specific area diminishes the true waterfront experience we had anticipated.Furthermore, I was surprised and disappointed to discover that the complementary motor launch, which was prominently mentioned on the Inn's website, is no longer in use. This lack of communication left us feeling misled and hindered our ability to fully enjoy the amenities we were counting on.Another aspect that has contributed to our disappointment is the need to request daily housekeeping as opposed to it being done automatically. This additional step has disrupted our relaxation and added unnecessary stress to our stay.In addition, the condition of the recreation room was quite disheartening. A majority of the video games were broken and the room itself appeared unkempt and dirty. This detracted from the overall ambiance and enjoyment we had hoped to experience during our stay. When I booked my families stay at the Spruce Point Inn, our expectation was to fully embrace the natural surroundings and have the convenience of enjoying the waterfront at our leisure. The need to drive or take a trolley to access basic amenities has hindered our ability to fully unwind and has placed us among the masses of tourists, contrary to our vision of a serene and relaxing getaway. While we understand and appreciate the charm of an "imperfectly perfect" experience, our current stay has been significantly below the standard we anticipated. I must admit that if there were a suitable alternative available that could accommodate my family, I would have already checked out.I kindly request that you address these concerns promptly to ensure that the remainder of our stay is more aligned with the experience we had hoped for when choosing Spruce Point Inn. Your attention to these matters would greatly enhance our overall impression of your establishment and potentially influence our decision regarding any future visits.Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your response and hope that together we can rectify the disappointments we have encountered during our current stay."

Awesome location in Boothbay. We stayed here before the private equity takeover and again this summer. Food, service and the people are still great. No investment has gone into the property to keep it up to date though. The carpet was disgusting, dirty, and not sure anyone looked to clean the bugs in the room before we arrived. Old buildings and furniture need upkeep. Not to mention that they are re-doing the pool/dock area during season so that was closed but not a big deal for us. Likely just private equity people that don't know how to run a business and look to cut costs where they can.Rooms: In serious need of renovationNearby activities: Boothbay is amazing. The hiking in the boothbay area is also incredible with all of the preserves in each peninsula.Walkability: Great hiking right on property! Several trails to choose from including walking around the beautiful property.Food & drinks: Delicious food at the Salty StagNoteworthy details: Location is epic. S'mores every night.

Spruce Point Inn is a dream! My room was super clean and spacious. The food was delicious at every restaurant, not to mention how helpful and friendly the staff were. There are so many activities to do from biking, tennis, hiking, relaxing by the water, taking the trolley to Boothbay, or the complimentary boat ride. I would highly recommend staying here. Great for families or for a couples getaway!

Definitely recommend. My husband and I just spend 3 nights in the Marston Room in the main building. The view was beautiful. As another reviewer pointed out, it is a historic inn and so are the rooms, and that is what we liked about it. Beautiful, clean, unique, historical, not cookie cutter. All the staff were unfailingly kind and helpful from the moment we walked in. Wonderful place.

Rustic elegance not even close. Spruce Point Inn is a run down camp that is poorly managed and falsely advertised. We chose Spruce Point Inn for its lovely water front location on the Boothbay, amenities including private dock, kayaks and paddle boards, swimming platform, and water taxi to town. We were not informed that none of these would be available during our week stay. In fact there was NO water access. Why would we pay premium summer rates to not even be able to swim? To do any water sports, you had to take a shuttle into town and kayak in the harbor. In addition much of the equipment on the resort, such as the vintage video games in the game room, board, games, and outdoor activities were broken, missing pieces, and unable to be used. Our cabin was clean, but the equipment, such as the hairdryer, window fans, and utensils were either old, dirty or broken. The management team was dismissive and unhelpful and did nothing to rectify any of the issues. I would not recommend Spruce Point Inn on any measure. It is one step up from a state park camp ground.

The views are gorgeous! Customer service is fantastic all staff were incredible. Even seemed to really care about the history of the area and really enjoyed being part of our occasion . Room 11 in evergreen was perfect for us on our honeymoon. Incredible views of the sunset and moon setting over the ocean in the wee morning hours. Highly recommend the recreations here very well maintained and has a nostalgic resort atmosphere. 100% will be coming back thank you for your unparalleled hospitality make sure captain Richard gives you a complimentary boat tour of the harbor! Very knowledgeable and fun! -A&J C.

Room 11 in evergreen building is the best room we stayed for a wedding and everyone else in the party had cabins and other rooms and we all agreed ours was the best. Beautiful view of the ocean. Nice nature trail right outside as well as huge chess board and stores station. Maid was pleasant and left room clean only thing is there's no do not disturb signs for the door handle so we were forced to have room cleaned despite not wanting anyone else entering our room or cleaning it for us.

Great seaside resort, lots of character and charm. Very friendly staff, easy check inn and check out. Our room wasn't ready when we arrived, but we hung out at the bar where there was wine tasting going on. The room was clean and well appointed. The deck from our room at the main inn looked out over the harbor. I'm usually a budget traveller, so the price was a little more than I'm used to, but well worth the quality resort experience.

Spruce Point didn't quite live up to expectations. My husband and I planned our activities in advance and registered for what we could (whale watching), only to realize when we arrived that most of the activities on Spruce Point's website are only available after Memorial Day or even later in the summer. The grounds were lovely, and we enjoyed ping pong in the rec room and hiking on the rear of the property. But the food at the Salty Stag was mediocre and the bikes available to borrow were broken. The room had a great view and was cute and old-fashioned, but the ceilings made my husband have to stoop and we kept getting awoken by the sound of the foghorn going all night, plus the WiFi was too patchy to use reliably. While the town was great to explore by walking and by electric bikes we rented, we won't be coming back for a follow-up visit.

My family (wife, older teen & younger teen) made an extended stay over the Labor Day weekend (four nights) and found Spruce Point Inn quite nice with solid amenities. Its *NOT* a modern resort like Cliff House in Ogunquit or the resort communities in Mid-Atlantic states like Delaware. Instead its a vacation experience unique to New England in general and Maine specifically. We stayed in one of the cottages and brought our dog. Overall, the cottage looked *exactly* like the pictures and 360 tour on their site. Its definitely old, with squeaking floors, but it didn't smell musty or feel badly dated. The fireplace worked well, water pressure in showers was good, and beds were comfortable. I'd have liked better kitchen appliances (i.e. an actual oven) but it was certainly adequate for breakfast, lunch, and a simple dinner. There is a Keurig which, sadly, is the model that won't let you use non-Keurig pods. Overall, the cottage was plenty large enough for our family and it would probably work well in a grandparents, parents, and grandkids situation too. It was clean on entry and housekeeping kept it in good order. There were some very minor dings and dents on the furniture and one shower but nothing too bad. It was quiet at night but, I can't speak to the hotel rooms (given they host weddings it could be loud)Given the resort fees are somewhat steep, I don't recommend staying here one or two days (if nothing else, you won't be able to use everything and/or feel rushed). The pools had fresh towels and nice furniture. The salt water pool overlooks the bay and is a relaxing place to spend time. When you get bored you can grab a kayak and paddle around (my older daughter and I took a two-person kayak and quite enjoyed it). The bay itself was pretty warm and, in summer months, is probably a good time to snorkle (just be careful of rocks). The heated pool, by the forest, was warm enough for early September. Its next to the spa (which we didn't use) and playground (my kids are too old but it looked well-maintained). The recreation building is definitely dated but has free video games, ping-pong, some kind of shuffle board game, and smaller toys for little kids. I didn't use the fitness center but did run on the trails and roads near the resort (all beautiful). There are also bikes all over the place to ride. The tennis courts looked decently maintained. My kids weren't bored, so I'd call it a win. oh.. there is an herb garden, summer camp (closed in the fall), horseshoes, and various chairs and resting places throughout. The Inn offers a boat tour you can take which I believe is included in the resort fee.We had two dinners and a breakfast at the Inn and found the service to be fine, the food quite good, and prices fairly reasonable. The "fancier" restaurant isn't ideal for kids (my teens were fine but a picky eater or eight-year old & younger will balk) but the other casual restaurant has burgers and other similar items. There is also an outdoor area to eat at overlooking the bay. We didn't have an issue with service, but they seemed to have "just enough" people. I'm guessing staffing was problematic in the summer months (which, to be fair, is an issue everywhere post-pandemic). Truthfully, while the food is quite good, you are doing yourself a disservice by not eating in Boothbay Harbor. There are some excellent restaurants with pricing that is less than SprucePoint. Food prices at the Inn are not crazy but high enough to maybe look elsewhere. We didn't regret eating at the restaurants its just there are other options. We enjoyed our stay and would certainly come back. The area around Boothbay Harbor contains many fun and interesting activities (especially the Maine Botanical Gardens). We were a little concerned on reading some of the negative reviews but, so long as your expectations are set correctly you'll be fine. Use the (many) amenities, take advantage of the beautiful scenery and you'll be happy.

Our experience at the Spruce Point Inn was so far below our expectations it will be hard to describe.Long story short, this is a beautiful place to stay but is horribly run and extremely overpriced. Our room and view were stunning. However, we did not have housekeeping for our 4 days and were charged for various resort events and amenities we did not have or have access to. The place is short staffed and prioritized a wedding party over us and other guests. We were told repeatedly throughout our stay that the season really picked up in June and that s the best time to come. However, we paid a lot of money for out time at Spruce Point Inn and if you could not provide the resort amenities advertised due to it still being out of season, we should not have been responsible for fees, in addition to our package, for such, especially when you are not providing events listed on your website. If the inn cannot manage opening when it did and housing average guests along with a wedding reservation, maybe it shouldn t have.We would love to return to Boothbay Harbor but, we would not return to Spruce Point Inn. The beauty of the location was overshadowed by the poor experience we were presented with. We feel we paid a very high premium to learn a very hard lesson.

We had such a wonderful week here. If you are coming here expecting a Hilton-like resort with plush carpets and room-service, it is not like that. That doesn't mean it isn't a wonderful place to stay. The location is beautiful and the employees are wonderful. The hotel (at least the lodges where we stayed) reminded me of the place from Dirty Dancing.Every business in the town was clearly understaffed this year, yet we were able to get food from the restaurant every time we needed and didn't have to wait long (some restaurants in town wouldn't even take to-go orders because they were so busy). They had washers and dryers on-site, which was a big plus for me. There are two pools and a playground, also a game room for kids and adults. It is perfect for families. Any shortcomings you find when you visit this hotel are only because they are understaffed, and in my opinion, it isn't even something you would notice if you weren't looking for it.Again, we had such a great vacation here. I wanted to write a thorough, honest review because I was nervous when I read the reviews, because they are so mixed. The pricing is right for what you get and the location of the hotel.

Nice old inn, beautiful location overlooking the harbor, lots to do. We had a very large room. But, the inn is in dire need of investment and management. Everything is in rough shape. The inn has been owned for 3 years by a private equity firm, Stonehouse Capital, that is supposed to specialize in luxury properties, so the lack of management and the condition of the property is unforgivable. Our room was one of the renovated ones, and everything about the cheap construction was already loose or broken. The curtains were already gone from one of the windows, so the room wouldn t get dark for sleeping. I cursed the bathroom every time I opened the drawer and it fell off its tracks. The gym was filthy. There wasn t enough staff. We didn t eat at the restaurant since it was so poorly reviewed (it used to be good). Generally a dump, which is a shame since it could be great.

I was not a guest of this resort but went there for a wedding. The location and grounds are beautiful! The amenities are impressive. The food served at the wedding was good but the chicken was overcooked. The only thing that I was disappointed in was that we ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and a glass of wine at the bar. It could have been my oversight but there were no sides included wth the sandwich and it was dry. I don't remember the price but I remember thinking that it was expensive for what we got. I will say that we had breakfast there the next morning and it was fabulous. Service was impeccable. I would visit again.

A very poor experience. In a resort with buildings so spread apart on hilly terrain valet parking and/or golf cart shuttles should be provided. Here, it is like camping, you carry your own stuff. We booked a accommodations closest to the water for a view which could not be had from our sitting room or bedroom. By standing outside in the rain on the edge of our tiny porch we got a pie shaped piece of water over the tree tops blocking an open view. The sink in the bathroom is cracked, pitted and gouged. The sink does not drain,so the stubble from shaving clings and coats the scratched basin. Disgusting. Like the sink, the shower door and jetted tub are hold overs from the 80 s. Can t imagine the scum in the tub jets. The tile floor was ice cold as outdoor temperature was 53. No rug, so you must stand on your wet tub mat. There is no hook or rod upon which to hang your towel or robe. You must march across the slippery frigid floor to retrieve either. Not even a one ounce tube of body lotion was provided . The lamp near the bed side table did not work. Need ice? Another foot field trip. All so poorly appointed. The muffins that were promised with coffee until 8:00 am. we re not served or never replenish. Not a banana or a thimble of yogurt. Alas, my expectations must run too high for a resort. They could not even provide HOT WATER for tea!!! So,breakfast in the dining room. Limited offerings. The avocado toast, which I assume was once crisp, was made soggy by the cool salsa that covered it. I love a runny egg but, the egg white that slither off the top was cold. The traditional breakfast was nothing special. Both plates were garnished with, nope, not a Maine blueberry, sliced strawberry or a pinwheel of banana but julienned yellow and green squash. What! Portions were small and ridiculously expensive. A pancake was $7.00 extra. My hot water did materialize, that and a Lipton tea bag cost $5.00.4 wicker chairs constitute the less than impressive decor of the main lobby. The tired den has no appointments worth commenting on.The heated pool is football fields away. I suppose one must ride a bike to and from. The cold water pool is at the bottom of a steep embankment near the water and is small and featureless.Perhaps for those surrounded by concrete, asphalt and living and working in tiny cramped spaces without polish or refinement, this resort is heaven on earth. To me it is cheap lipstick on a old and dowdy woman.Better views, better food, better service, better accommodations can be easily found elsewhere. But,if you must have an outdoor chessboard,a running trail and a kaiak and not much else and wish to pay a premium price, this is the place for you.

We got married here in August. The property was in perfect condition and truly impressed even the pickiest of my guests. Many have already booked or are planning to book their next stay here! The team was great, but especially Kayce. Her attention to service was incredible and level of detail& commitment to seeing it through was next level. We were certainly not the easiest bride & groom, as we wanted to do things that had never been done previously and host and entire weekend of outdoor events. She pushed for us to be able to do all of the things we dreamt of. I later found out all of the ins and outs she pulled off behind the scenes to make our dream weekend come true. She was such an advocate for us and our day! Truly came to love and adore her and since, my whole family considers her a lifelong friend. The weekend of the event, the entire staff was A+. Throughout the weekend, we heard countless stories from our guests about how over the top the service was. Everyone was friendly and kind.We will be SPI guests for life!!

Just returned from Spruce Point Inn and I cannot express how disappointed I was. We have been a guest there every September for the past 15 years. All of the amenities that make a guest feel welcome and valued are gone. No daily housekeeping service, you must ask for towels, toilet tissue and anything else you may need. Many of the little touches like coffee in the lobby, towels folded like swans and plenty of them, an array of complimentary toiletries, complimentary wine for returning guests....all of these are gone. However the price has increased. The only bright spot was Captain Richard on the Brightline. He was great. When I go on vacation I want a vacation from making my own bed and emptying my own trash. Good bye Spruce Point, we liked you once, but now not so much.
