The Central House is aptly named, as it truly is central to everything on Cottage Street! It s a cool old house with a great porch. The bedrooms are what one might expect - a little small, a crooked floor, a small bathroom, etc, but charming nonetheless. It would be nice if the room entry door got some WD-40, as it squeaked like crazy and we were out really early each morning! It would be great to have more hooks to hang towels and a more up to date toilet in the bathroom. Our room was a bit noisy at night, as it faced the gas station. Afternoon chocolate chip cookies were yummy! Lots of information regarding local attractions and the park available in the lobby and room.

We spent a week there last month. Central house is charming and the name is spot on. The location is fantastic, just a block off Main street and less than a 10 minute walk to everything. The room was beautiful and we loved the front porch. The owner was readily available if anything was needed. This is the first B&B we have stayed in that did not have breakfast but there are lots of great breakfast spots you can walk to in minutes. Our favorite was "This Way Cafe". The only complaint was the room did not have dark curtains so it was light in the room early. We get up early anyway so not much of a problem for us but I can see how some might not like that. The common area has lots of books if you need one, I would have liked a couple quiet board games too (chess/checks, Scrabble, maybe a card game of two. We had a little rain so that would have been nice. Overall I highly recommend it.Rooms: Well appointed, good size bathroom. There was a large dresser and a small closet. Super cute and comfortableNearby activities: Everything in Bar Harbor! There are several options for cruises, we did whale watching. Of course Acadia National Park where we spent several daysWalkability: You can walk everywhere from Central House. I would highly recommend taking a walk as soon as you get in to see what all your options are. Don't forget going to the other end of Cottage Street away from Main Street. We only used the car to get to Acadia and there is a shuttle for that too. In theory you could park your car and not touch it all week

Bar Harbor in July is expensive. The Central House is a pretty nice place to stay and offered free offsite parking. Many of the rooms are nice. We booked the last room available for the time we would be there, and it was the queen room on the third floor with the private bath across the hall from the bedroom. The room was very hot and difficult to cool down. The bathroom was tiny and had no cooling at all, and because you could not leave the door open because it was on a hallway with other guests, it was like showering in a steam room. Our bed was very uncomfortable, and the tiny closet had pipes going through it and smelled dank. We did not hang any clothes in it because of the smell. Not a great experience at The Central House, but we were there to visit Acadia National Park, which was great.

We stayed four nights here (in July 2023) and had a great time. The room (202) was very comfortable and had its own AC unit. The location is fabulous - perfect for walking out to breakfast across the street, or dinner at any of the many restaurants down the street. The parking is a huge feature - it s so hard to park downtown during peak season. We could walk to our Puffin & Lighthouse cruise, or walk to rent bikes for the carriage roads (highly recommend the e-bikes for this - we had so much fun!).Walkability: Excellent - many restaurants and attractions within walking distance.

We were looking forward to our stay here and to be in Bar Harbor. As soon as we got there, we went up to the third floor to get settled. It was unbearably hot immediately. We turned on the air and left to go out, hoping it would cool down by the time we got back. There was no ceiling fan. Unfortunately, when we got back it was still sweltering. We talked with another third floor guest who was also flush and overheated. We asked the innkeeper for a new room. He obliged and let us on the second floor for the night. The next day the housekeepers moved us back up to the third floor during the day, as there was no vacancy. When we got back that night it was hot again. We gave them the benefit of the doubt that it would cool down as the outside temperature dropped. It did not. I asked the innkeeper if he could please turn the air on upstairs. He refused. Later that night, someone on the first floor cancelled so we were able to move down there.Overall, we were never able to feel settled here. We were constantly sweating and having to keep our bags packed and moving around. The heat was dangerous.I really wanted to give this stay one star, but they are getting two. One for location and one because they did give us new rooms each night.

Pros: Phenomenal location and walking distance to many great restaurants and neat little souvenir shops. Hot water turns on immediately in both the faucet and shower, which felt amazing after a long day hiking in Acadia.Cons: Their WiFi is so unreliable it doesn t work, so don t expect it to. The bed covers are uncomfortable and we basically only slept with a cover sheet. Like a previous reviewer mentioned, the male host s crotchety demeanor did not make us feel very welcomed.Overall a quaint stay- I recommend it for those who will be out and about exploring Bar Harbor & Acadia all day, and just need a place to sleep at night without a care for remarkable hospitality.

4.5 stars. I wonder if this is what it was like to have lived in the Inn from the Gilmore Girls. The hosts are VERY responsive. (I think if Phil doesn't respond, he didn't hear you loudly enough. We ended up talking about home maintenance, which I learned a lot about from him!) The water pressure is very nice; hot water is on demand. Towels are like new. Location is central, true to its name. Parking is in the front, on the lawn or on the back. I arrived early and was allowed to check-in early. Nice porch area to sit, eat, drink coffee. There is no laundry facility (old house), microwave, refrigerator are on the first floor. The bad parts are: the wifi was ok (up to 40 mbps) and then it wasn't (up to 3 mpbs) and the walls and ceilings are thin (again, old house). I can hear all the footsteps above me. Overall, it was a great place for two nights for both visiting Acadia NP and trying to get some work done.

The Central House, as its name would imply, is centrally located to anywhere you want to be in Bar Harbor. The rooms are clean and air-conditioned, the bed is comfortable, and the innkeeper is friendly. There is off-street parking for mid-sized cars and trucks, but if you show up with a larger truck or SUV, you might have difficulty parking. A very nice location and a very nice value.

The Central House is absolutely gorgeous. Beth was extremely kind and made our stay perfect. The house is aptly named: central to Bar Harbor. The rooms are clean, spacious, and the entire house is well maintained. The price is low but the quality is high. I would absolutely stay here again.

This place is the most adorable place to stay the night around Acadia and Bar Harbor. The owners are so nice and friendly and make sure that your stay is enjoyable. I love that is near all the food/bars/stores and a short drive from most of Acadia's trails. I would definitely love to stay here again if I come up to Acadia again.

We enjoyed our five day stay at The Central House on Cottage street in Bar Harbor Maine in June 2019. The location in town is marvelous and within walking distance to most of this quaint seaside town. We chose an upstairs front corner room with a window to the front of of the house and one on the side. It was a smallish room but had its own bath with a small shower. If street noise disturbs you, you might want to choose a room away from the front of this lovely old Victorian house. Because of the cool weather, we were able to sleep with the windows open at night. We found parking on the premises each day. Coffee available by Keurig available in the nice sunroom. The price per night for our accommodations Monday thru Thursday was great for the location. It was a little more expensive for Friday night but still a good deal.

A picturesque old Inn right in the heart of Bar Harbor, we found the accomadations classy and cozy. Free coffee and tea any time of day, wuth plenty of common sitting rooms. The staff is very knowagable and friendly. You are no more than a 10 minute walk from anything fun in town, and a less than 3 minute walk from the main shopping and eating district. We will deffinitly be staying here in the future.

This place is so weird. If you cannot afford one of the ocean front resorts (like me), this is most likely where you'll end up. The place lives up to its name, as centrally located as it gets. The vintage flair this place advertizes has more of a run-down vibe than a vintage one. Not extremely clean, not extremely dirty, it's just weird. So is the host. There is no such thing as an early check-in, and even though she was clearly home, she ignored us until it was officially time to check us in. It was not exactly an awful experience, also not a great one, and you get what you pay for, but I will probably not return and rather spend the extra buck.

Perfect central location to downtown bar harbor, reasonably priced, clean rooms, parking on site. Minutes from Acadia. Free Keurig. Lady running place is sweet.

The innkeeper is very friendly, the building quaint and comfortable. The only reason for the four stars is that we chose this location in part because of the wifi... which is sporadic at best, and painfully slow when it does work.If that's not important to you, I couldn't recommend this place more highly!
