The team at Cottman Transmission & Total Auto Care, at 7801 Earhart Blvd., is incredible. I m a single mother on a limited budget and was looking to find a safe, used car. They performed a comprehensive check on two separate vehicles for me at no charge. Todd and Jason were personable, friendly, honest, and open in sharing their knowledge & expertise. They made me feel welcome and their information helped reassure me I was not buying a lemon . For the car I did buy, they provided me with a complete repair list with pricing, prioritized by urgency, so I could schedule needed repairs in affordable increments. Needless to say, I won t be going anywhere else for servicing my car. They made me feel like family.

Brought my car in thinking I needed a new transmission. These guys figured out it was just a sensor. They had already ordered the new transmission but when they went to pull it out they noticed it wasn't cracked and did not need to be replaced. They could have easily just changed it anyway. Instead they called me and told me my car was ready and that I would be saving $4000! Great guys, great communication, and excellent service. I will recommend Cottman to all my family and friends. Thank you guys!

I wish I could give Cottman a 10/5 star rating because that's how exceptional my experience was. I brought my Nissan to their shop last week with a slew of warning lights, and they diagnosed a transmission issue that ultimately led me to search for a new car. As a young woman living on my own in NOLA, I had concerns about being taken advantage of when it comes to car-related problems. However, Cottman went above and beyond to ease my worries. They generously offered to inspect any cars I was considering purchasing, an offer I gratefully accepted. Todd and Jason, the dynamic duo at Cottman, were an incredible help and provided me with much-needed confidence during this challenging process. They were consistently honest and forthright about the situation, making me feel secure in my decisions. Thanks to Todd and Jason's expertise and integrity, I'm now optimistic that my new car will serve me well for a long time. Cottman truly deserves every star in the galaxy!

Rebuilt my transmission for $4k in July 2022. Had to bring back in 3 times (twice for their admitted mistakes). Drove it under 2k miles over 13 months - transmission goes again. Sorry buddy warranty is only for 12 months. Shoddy parts/work and customer service is lazy. Wouldn t be surprised if they do you better at the Metarie location but I wouldn t recommend.Just as a follow-up: the owner reached out to understand more. I emailed him and never heard back. Good luck, all.

This place is wonderful! My daughter cracked her transmission on an elevated water meter. She realized something was wrong and drove it to this shop. Todd was amazing. She was very upset and he helped to calm her down. He was so helpful and patient explaining the issue and gave a more than fair estimate. I highly recommend!

It is rare for me to take the time to write a review, good or bad, but I feel strongly about how disappointing this experience was. Cottman had my car for three weeks even though they said it would be done in two days. I'm fine with a service taking longer than expected due to delay on parts, etc. (which was part of the problem) but the lack of communication was laughable. They called us TWICE in three weeks for an update. I had to track them down for any sort of update. They would tell us it would be done on a Tuesday and we would wait around for a call to tell us an update and nothing. I also asked at LEAST three times if they could change the oil and when I finally got the car back and called to ask if they changed it, they said they had forgotten. On top of the lack of communication, when I got the car back my back windshield wiper was missing and the steering wheel alignment is COMPLETELY off. I am 110% the car did not go into the shop with a missing windshield wiper and messed up alignment. They have a warranty, but I am too nervous to take my car back. Do no go here for clutch repair.

Let's be honest, nobody is happy to go to a mechanic shop. This is not like giving a review of a Baskin Robbins. It's more like being asked to rate your proctologist! That said, i had a good experience here. The guy at the desk, Todd, was straight-forward and professional. It did take a week to replace the clutch in my Mazda Tribute, but he apologized and gave a reasonable explanation. I'll go back there--but not for ice cream.

Came in believing my clutch needed to be repaired. Was told my clutch and fuel injection system needed to be replaced so I told them to do it. $2,200 later and when I came to pick it up, I was told I needed my exhaust fixed and it would run properly. $200 at another shop for that and it still doesn't work... Was told to bring it in for repair but I would have to pay for labor even with a warranty and the mechanic saying it should work. I went to an auto parts store and they said the EGR valve is throwing a code and my light was on before I brought it to Cottman. They didn't check that. They quoted me $500 just to start the EGR valve, no guarantee it won't go up because "pipes get in the way" and the guy was upset that I told him it didn't work and it was this problem. He even argued saying I don't know what it is. I hung up, called another shop and they said $200 and asked who was charging me $500 to look at it? If you want a vehicle that doesn't work and to lose money, just go outside and throw your money in the trash, then you'll know what it's like to have Cottman do work on your vehicle it'll run the same anyway...

Kept my car for 3 days saying they couldn't find a problem with transmission. Stopped responding to any calls or messages and I just went & got it from the shop and guess what? My transmission is still needs to be repaired. I don't believe they drove it or touched it at all. Waste of my time.Service: TransmissionService: Transmission

I don t usually read reviews because there just people opinions. From my own experience with Cottman my 2008 Toyota Tundra is there and I thought it was my transmission from another business I ve taking it too. Cottman reported back that it s not it s just some other issues but I am happy with the manageable response back. Haven t picked it up yet but the price for fixing the truck is just too far out my affordability. Thanks Cottman for your splendid work!Service: Auto engine diagnostic

Corey gave me outstanding service, my transmission when out on my 2003 Chevy Trailblazer. I got a tower truck to drop it off there after hours. I call Corey the next day and told him the problem, he told me he would call me back after they look at the transmission. Corey call me back that day, told me that he could rebuild my transmission. I told him ok and he said it would be ready the next day about 3:30pm. When I got there at 4:00pm it was ready to go. It s been a month now and I have not had any trouble, my car running very very good. Thanks Corey!!!

I was in need of a clutch replacement in Sept. 2015, did my research, and settled on Cottman in New Orleans. The manager was good, I was fine with the price of $1,600, and so I went for it. After the work was done, I had to return my vehicle three times for new issues. The first, the idle re-learn was not done properly upon completion of the clutch install. I would stall out in intersections, at stop signs, most anytime my engine was idling in neutral or at very low rpm's. This was corrected.I had to take my vehicle in a second and third time within 30-45 days due to an intermittent problem where my clutch would not go into 1st gear or Reverse. Even jamming it would not go into gear. This would occur multiple times a week, but not all the time. I had to rev the engine in 3rd gear to get it going, and then immediately shift it into 1st to continue along, and same with reverse. Both times I returned to Cottman, they inspected the clutch install, and informed me it is most likely a transmission issue and that I would be looking at a minimum of several hundred dollars just to take out the transmission to look at it, and possibly $4-5,000 for a new transmission. I was not prepared for this knowing these issues were not happening prior to the clutch replacement.I lived with my shifting problem for several months debating and researching what could be done to correct my shifting problem, but then I had to move out of state in June 2016- still with shifting difficulties. Finally, in Apr. 2017 my shifting problems became near-permanent and I had my transmission and clutch examined in my new state- and not at a Cottman. What was discovered was that a sleeve was installed on my throwout bearing with no clips to attach the sleeve in place. Without any clips, the sleeve slid back and forth along the throwout bearing leading to my shifting difficulties. First off, the sleeve was not necessary, and second, it was not even attached. This was work performed by Cottman in Sept. 2015. I needed this issue fixed and spent $1,200 this time around. For the past two and a half months I have spoken with Cory at Cottman five times and emailed twice as well about what had happened and what was done improperly at Cottman. He remembers me, my vehicle, and my return visits to "diagnose" my shifting problems. He has told me that my issue now is up to the owner, however I have not received a phone call or email from the owner in the past two and a half months to discuss with me. An FYI to all of you, their warranty is a paltry 12 MONTH warranty. And so, now that I am beyond this 12 MONTH time frame I have been told there is likely nothing that can be done. DESPITE the fact that I visited Cottman twice while my vehicle was under warranty and they could not diagnose their own installation mistake and my problems were entirely determined to be a result of the initial installation because of the missing clips and the sliding sleeve.I am not one to post reviews such as this, however this entire ordeal has been an incredible disappointment due to the money that I seem to have wasted, the problems that subsequently happened with my vehicle, the inability to discover their own mistake, and the lack of ownership of the problem and willingness to assist me financially in correcting this mistake. Please consider this a major word of caution to everyone reading these reviews. I hope this does not happen to future customers.

I wanted just a transmission fluid change and service so I dropped the car off. A little bit later, Corey contacted me and let me know that it was serviceable and nothing else needed to be done. No upcharges, selling points, etc. I picked my car up after only 2 hours time. Very trustworthy and willing to do JUST the job at hand. I reccomend and already have for anyone needing car maintenance done, take your vehicle to them. You will not be disappointed. The whole team does good work.

My Mini Cooper broke and I was really at a loss with what to do with it, seeing as there's no dealerships anywhere near New Orleans. Corey was great, letting me bring the car down right after I called, calling my warranty company and trying to get them to do the right thing, and checking my whole car out. At the end of the day he determined he could fix it, but wasn't sure which of the two things was wrong with it and didn't want me to have to pay a ton of money if the warranty wouldn't cover the repairs. He recommended I take it to the dealer, forgoing any money he would have made off of the repair AND doing all the minor work for free. I've never met a more honest and kind mechanic in my life.

I was out of town and on a road trip across country when my radiator fan shattered and punctured my radiator. I needed a quick fix to get on my way, but didn't want to get ripped off because of my situation. Corey was more than happy to listen to me and my situation, shoot me straight about what was really wrong and what the costs were. I was very happy with the service and relieved to be on my way.Three days later, however, the radiator started leaking at the seams when I reached New Mexico. Although it was a faulty radiator from the manufacturer, I called Corey in a panic and he assured me that they would be able to take care of it under their warranty. Even though I was three states away, Corey went to work on getting a radiator to me and installed at no cost. I was absolutely blown away with the customer service he provided (even on a Sunday!) and am very impressed with the warranty that Cottman Transmission upholds.Corey, you are the best man! Thank you so much!!!

About 2 months ago I began having major issues with my transmission. Subsequently, I decided to take it to Cottman Transmission. I own multiple vehicles and have a passable knowledge of car/truck repair. However, I'd never had a transmission repaired or replaced.Having to spend thousands of dollars on a vehicle repair can be painful, but Rob (Manager) definitely helped to soften the blow with his professionalism and fair dealing. He greeted me and asked how he could be of assistance as I walked in. After asking a few questions he instructed one of his technicians to begin a diagnostic. I couldn't wait on the results, but before I left, I observed Rob's interaction with an irate customer. The unruffled way he handled this situation reaffirmed I had chosen the right shop.Long story short, my vehicle was repaired timely, and for what I believe to be a fair price. I highly recommend this transmission shop. Great job gentlemen!

We had our car in and out of this shop for almost 6 months. Every time they "fixed" it we would find either the same problem or new problem. They got a lot of money from us and the repairs weren't done.I did not receive a response from Cottman after they responded to my review asking for me to email them.

Communication goes far in my book. Scheduled a tow for Friday morning 9am. At 1pm there was still no tow. I had spoken with Corey twice in between. The 1st story was that Keith, the tow driver, was running behind. The 2nd story was that something was wrong with his tires and he had to go out to Kenner but he would still be able to come pick my car up. At 1pm is when I decided that enough wait was enough. I cancelled Corey right after 1pm to let him know that I wasn't gonna be able to wait any longer. He didn't answer so I left a message for him stating that I was calling to cancel the tow and that I would make arrangements to get the vehicle up there next week.At 3:30pm, Corey called me back to tell me that they would not be able to pick up the vehicle. He didn't seem very apologetic for wasting my morning.I would advise that they come up with a better system for towing and better communication. Corey should have advised on the 1st call that we reschedule until Monday. I would have been ok with that.At this point, I'm second guessing on bringing my car to them for service. They couldn't get something as simple as a tow so I really don't know.

I came in to Cottman's after installing a rebuilt engine and transmission from auto zone in my truck, after having an issue with an improperly rebuilt torque converter, I wanted to have it assessed by a professional before putting it on the road, as I travel heavily for work and rely on my vehicle. I stated I had no problem paying them for their time and professional opinion, Corey insisted transmission checks were free and he was able to get it in within an hour. We put it on the lift and he checked over everything, took the time to explain his assessment, even caught a transmission line that rubbed the frame, definitely, could have caused catastrophic problems down the road.. After that he checked the computer, cleared out the codes from the old transmission, and updated the software. I almost feel bad I didn't have to pay them for any of this. I really couldn't have left the place feeling any better about the whole experience, they were knowledgeable, professional, straightforward, and honest. I would highly recommend these guys to anyone.

We have had transmission issues all last year, we got in here and they took the time to get to the root of the problem and address it properly. Reasonable prices, using new parts and warrantied parts and work. Seriously, its worth paying to get towed to a Nationwide company and paying to do it right once rather than taking cheaper options that fail in a few months only to have you shelling out more and more and still having problems.

I went to another transmission place and they told me a price before they even look at it .. so I asked a round ..I heard nothing but good things about Cottman so I went . When I went ,Mr.Corey was a lil mean are should I say nothing but business.. So I left my car anyway.. I called him the next day scared to hear the price.. He was so nice he told me I didn t have a transmission problem.. He didn t even charge me the 150 for the test he ran on my car ..He said I m not like the other car shops ..If it s no problem why make someone pay .. I really appreciate that so if your looking for someone please go to them !!

I have used this company twice in the last 6 months for car repairs. Cody who I have always dealt with is so HONEST it's unreal. I had another garage tell me on my Chrysler that I needed to change the transmission filter at 30,000 miles I didn't do it and called Cody who told me it's 60,000 not 30,000 and today he checked my power steering and said nothing wrong there - it just needs to be fully serviced at 60,000 - 'with no thought of even making a nickel he handed me my keys and said "any problem just call me or stop by and I will get you taken care of" I know he means as my past dealing with him reflect this attitude and commitment to his customers.

These guys are friendly and reasonable people. They replaced my clutch with parts I provided from AutoZone. After installation the clutch was still not engaging proprely. Turns out my part was defective. They handled swapping out the parts through my warranty and replaced it again. They were decent enough to work out a good price for me, as the labor for changing the clutch twice would have been costly. In the end my truck was returned in a timely fashion (considering the defective part and memorial day monday) and it was FIXED for a good deal.

I made it to Key West, Florida thanks to Corey at Cottman Transmition! My old car became intolerable through New Orleans. My car went crazy and refused to shift into higher gears when i needed it to, like on the freeway. I was forced to seek out help so I went to Cottmans and met Corey. He was great and obviously had a lot of knowledge about my car. He did a diagnostic and thought he could fix the problem by replacing a burned fuse and resetting the computer. When I drove it Wha-La!! It was repaired!! Saving me from an extended time there and money I did not have to make the proper repair at the time. I asked him what I owed and he said nothing. I was so surprised, finally an honest mechanic which is really hard to find. I would return in a heart beat and probably will on my way back to California. Thanks Corey, you really saved my life back in January. With much gratitude; Renee
