While traveling with my diesel motorhome, I was experiences fuel problems and had to exit I-12 to locate a repair shop. After finding Superior on google, I was able to get there under my own power. The guys were great and stopped what they were doing to assist me and we determined the fuel filters needed to be replaced. I was informed that their labor rate was $150 hr., but what choice did I have at this point. Both filters could not be any easier to reach as they are accessible from the rear while standing up. After taking the needed filter numbers, a worker went to get the replacements at a vendor which you could see from our location. After returning he proceeded to change the filters which took about 20 minutes. When completed and asked for my bill, I was told the total was over $515. Asking for a breakdown, I was told 1 1/2 hrs at $225, one filter @ $97 and the second @ $77, which is both over 100% markup. I understand the usual 40-50% markup, but over 100%. Both filters are available for under $80 on Amazon. Additionally I was charged $72 for shop fees. I was told that over the customary charge for rags and such, this included going for the parts. Well, I was already on the clock for $150 per hour while he did this. Seems like double charging to me. Although I appreciate them getting me back on the road, I feel like I was certainly taken advantage of as a stranded traveler.
