Scam alert! My fiancee met with Chris Lay (owner) and dropped 2 mowers. She told him she wanted an estimate for repairs to both. The first one he looked at needed a piece welded back on. He told her $1100. She said it was way too much and that we would come pick up. He replied - you said you would pay whatever. She told him a new deck is only $900. When we went to pick up the mowers up they were sitting out in an empty parking lot where she met him to drop off. Apparently he uses someone else's lot away from his place. We have called numerous times for our deposit to be refunded. He said it was for diagnostics. Zero work was done. Read other reviews and check BBB before contacting Chris Lay of Turf Runners

Took my Scotts ride on mower to this guy a few year back to get a estimate because a pully had went bad on the deck. I specifically told the guy I bought it for $500 and did not want to get to far into it with the repair and would like to know the estimate prior to the repair. Couple weeks went by and he called me back with a $600 bill to replace the pully that he already repaired. I was not going to pay that so the guy got a free mower and I got the shaft on it. Opened a BBB case and they was unable to get a response or do anything for me. would not recommend, be careful with this business.

I just returned a truck yesterday and they charged me for a cleaning fee even though I had the photo of the dirty when they ask for a before and after photo when you rent a uhaul... Someone isn't doing there job of looking at the before photos. This is my first time using there service and already had a bad experience.... I DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM AT ALL, PLEASE ADVOID. SO YOU WONT HAVE TO DEAL WITH GETTING CHARGED FOR SOMETHING YOU NEVER DID

Serviced my Exmark mower and saw, charged fairly significant $$ amount. Mower would not start after 2nd use. Previously charged me for a tune-up and a new coil on the mower, second trip, if I remember correctly.I took it to another shop, they did the same service and had to replace the coil. Old coil had not been changed, that I was charged $110 for... Part swapper thief... The other shop bags the old parts and hands them to you when you pick up your equipment, Not like this shop.This happened last year, and I should have posted sooner..

Not the best experience. At drop off, I was told they would call to let me know what the problem was and how much it would be to fix it in approximately 5 days. After two weeks of waiting and no phone call, I started to call them. They gave me the run around for an additional two weeks. Finally after leaving multiple voicemails they finished it.They did fix my daughters go kart problem. But I will not go back for their business. Terrible communication and with customers. And a few days later I realized the belt was bad. If they cared, they would have noticed that and fixed it as well. Poor poor customer service.

I took my lawn mower to get it fixed, it's electric not gas/diesel. The mower wouldn't start. They took it had it back to me in about 2 weeks. We used it once, then it wouldn't start again. Took It back, said they should have caught this the first time. Waiting on parts for 1.5 months, I would leave messages they would not return them. I'm going to pick up my mower and take it someplace else today, tired of the run around with these guys....Steer Clear.

I have a 1986 Honda Rebel 250 that Chris picked up in Shelbyville for me even though that was out of his range but he agreed to pick it up anyways. This is my first motorcycle and I have zero experience with motorcycle shop cost or repair. He gave me the highest approximation of repair cost when he picked it up in Shelbyville. I was hoping it wouldn't be too expensive. Unfortunately for me the cost of repair exceeded what I had in mind to spend. He disassembled the carburetor twice to try to clean it to fix the problem and it did not resolve the issue. I had also learned from Chris that the frame was bent which could cause major problems down the road. All this information of repair cost and frame damage got me really frustrated and I took that frustration out on Chris. I was not polite at all and at times extremely rude. I'm positive I am not his favorite customer. In spite of me being a complete ass to Chris he was nice enough to work with me on some fees to save me some money. I can't rate them on a repair as I did not follow through with the complete repair but I can rate them on honesty and their willingness to work with me.

I few years a ago I had them work on a chain saw. They stated it would be a few weeks before they can work on it but I left it with them and a few weeks later I got it back. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Chris is very knowledgeable about small engines. He got my gas trimmer running in no time and took the time to explain what happened. Also annual service on my lawn mower is reasonable.

I'm a project manager for a local construction company and took 3 generators to them to be repaired. When I picked them up and got them back to our office only one worked, they came and picked the two that STILL didn't work up and brought them back a week later one still leaked gas after have the carburetor "replaced" and a voltage regulator put on the other. Within a couple of hours it was leaking gas AGAIN. The other one went out to a site the other day for the first time they fixed it and it ran for 5 minutes with a circular saw on it and stopped working. I go up and talk to them about what we can do and to pick the one that was leaking gas up and they're pissed that I stopped the check we issued them and told me the customer has to take some responsibility with these. For what? I brought the generators to them to go through and fix them so I didn't have to go spend 1,200 each on new ones. So after spending around 1,300 - 1,400 to get 3 generators repaired i still only have one that works.

Richard at Turf Runners is friendly, fair and genuine. They warranty their work and bend over backwards to accommodate each customer. The only place I would take my small engines for repair in town!

Chris was very helpful! He was able to answer all my questions. This is a fabulous location and is very clean and welcoming. Most small engine repair shops are filthy! Turf Runners is a welcoming enviroment! Check them out on Watterson Trail in Jeffersontown!
