I have been to a lot of auto mechanics and this is by far the best I ve been to. They were honest they kept me informed they worked with my warranty company. They replaced an engine for me with the correct way, because I went to several mechanics who could not do the job, right? I highly recommend them and I will continue to take all my vehicles to them. Thank you Brian you are a ton of help

I had a very pressing issue with my brakes that was worsening as I got into Lawrence on my commute to school. Panicked, I decided to come to Free State Auto Works hoping for an expedient troubleshoot and fix. They listened to my story, took my car for a short drive to hear and feel what I noticed, and immediately discovered and repaired the issue - the bolts holding my brakes (which were recently replaced) had fallen out on the highway and needed immediate replacement. They got it done and got me back on the road. These mechanics are fast, knowledgeable, calm, and hospitable. They really saved me today! I highly recommend these folks for all your car needs.

Free State was great! I had an issue come up with my car when I was home for winter break and they were able to squeeze me in the same day and fix the issue in 5 minutes. Everyone was very polite and helpful! Their prices are great too.

I'm from out of state and didn't know of any diesel mechanics or trustworthy shops to take care of my truck the way my shop did back home. I stumbled upon Free State and couldn't have been happier with the customer service and the quality of their work since day one. These guys are my go-to from here on out. Brian is an exceptional representation of this establishment and just an all around cool dude. Extremely knowledgeable, up-front, honest, and professional. I recommend Free State for anyone needing a reliable shop. Cheers!

Called the shop. Bryan was very helpful. Although they were busy they still took the time to look at my daughter s car. They fixed the problem on the spot. I highly recommend Free State Autoworks!

I can t recommend this business enough. They ve always been an ideal auto shop. They re fast, kind, efficient, knowledgeable, and do great work. I ve been to them several times for very crucial repairs and they always get my car back in great shape sooner than expected. I took my truck in with many problems after trying to lower it myself. There was a lot wrong with it when I took it to them. They figured out what I needed for it fast and recommended parts for me to order. I had the best experience with Free State Auto Works! I needed my evaporator core replaced (AC system) and they were so nice, and most importantly, kept me updated every step of the way. Having good communication and customer service makes such a difference in an experience. I will 100% use and recommend them in the future! I wanted to get a full exhaust done on my mustang and I had 5 shops in mind and all other 4 shops said they would call me back but they did not. And I came upon this, of course with a little skepticism. I talked to Terry and I asked him if he could do it and how long it would take. I just put my trust in them and they took care of me. He's a very respectable man. Terry told me the owner was very passionate for cars and the MAIN thing that led me to this shop was the confidence from Terry because he told me that he can do it and they have done plenty of them. I wasn't going to base my decision off of some corny reviews about oil changes thats probably not even true. Long story short, the job called for 10 hours and they did it in 10 hours. He worked with me and i did my best to be patient. It took 3 days to do this and thats what he quoted me from the start. I am going to take my car here for any future work because i can trust this shop very well now. What they put on is amazing! no exhaust leaks or cutting(they even let me know that there was no cutting need to be done so i felt safer with my car being there). I highly recommend it to anyone!

I ve gone to Free State Auto to have them look into a few different car problems by now and every time I go they remind me why I come back. Excellent service, reasonable prices and absolutely hassle-free. Couldn t recommend these guys enough!

I have been bring my vehicles to there shop for years. The last 2 jobs on my 4runner and Tacoma left me with questions that the business did not want to answer. I went to the shop to ask why codes were not cleared after work was done. The answer I got was the mechanic is on vacation and he will be here next week. Tacoma had a check engine light when it came in and they did not clear the code but left it on. They said I could bring it back for them to look at. I asked why didn t the mechanic clear the codes and advise me of it. They could not answer why. ???

This place is amazing. I'm an automotive technician of 25 years in Denver and my daughter is going to school in Lawrence. It's hard for me to trust anyone else working on her car and with her car needing some recent repairs and me not being able to be there, they have taken care of her and put my worries at ease. I'd highly recommend this place to any out of state student or local person.

I take my BMW to Free State Auto Works and I couldn't say good enough things about their service and their service manager, Don. They are really helpful, and unlike a lot of shops, won't perform work on your car and bill you later. I refer everyone who asks me about car maintenance there.Don't hesitate to get your car worked on there! Definitely a good shop, plus, they are local to Lawrence instead of a big chain place.Also, don't listen to the people saying negative things on here. I've sent 10+ friends to Free State and they have all had GREAT experiences. The negative people probably just have their heads up their a** and don't know anything. No shop would EVER recommend a whole new engine for an overheating problem..that makes no sense.Also, sometimes it's hard to tell if an internal part is broken. Say for example, if a water pump on a car is bad, it's literally impossible to know without taking it off the car. Don't listen to the negative people on here. Free State is a great shop with great service.

I took my car into Free State by the recommendation of my roommate. Previously I had only had bad experiences with shops, mainly trying to charge for unnecessary work.I wanted to sell my car but had five different dashboard lights on. Terry, looked at the car and called me with what needed done and a price. He ensured every light would be off after the work. The price was incredibility reasonable at $800. I had expected to spend over $1,200.I've never had such a great experience at an auto shop. I would recommend it to everyone in Lawrence. Terry is an honest man who knows what he's talking about.

I am new in town and an elderly woman. Finding a trustworthy auto service shop is really difficult for both reasons. I am so glad I found Free State. The manager was kind and patient, and he found what was wrong quickly. Then he scheduled my car to be repaired is a reasonable amount of time. The professionalism was superb, plus I appreciate the courtesy trips to my home and back since I have only one car.

You are not going to find a more honest auto shop. Terry is by far the most honest guy I have ever ran across and he knows what he is talking about when it comes to cars. You can trust what he says. The owner is also a very honest guy and has worked on all my vehicles. You can count on good work, no extra fees and they will be straight up honest.

This was my go to place to have tires put on my 20in American Racing rims and was happy every time. Now (1/19/22), they have decided to no longer want to mount and balance my set up stating it s to much of a liability. Would not do business with them again.

Terry (Service Manager) is an awesome guy, great to work with. He goes out of his way to actually teach you something about your vehicle and how it works, specifically what they're doing to it. Excellent, fair pricing and great communication. I've had a number of things done there over multiple years and on multiple cars. Use these guys with confidence!

We've been bringing our family vehicle to Free State since we purchased it, and not once has Terry and the folks there ever let us down. Recently, while under serious time pressure, our van's battery died. They got us in and got things fixed up in a matter of minutes so we could get back to our way.Terry goes above and beyond every time we've asked for help, so you can count me as a dedicated customer of theirs. Businesses like these make me love living in this town.

I used to own a BMW, and Baron BMW overcharged me for everything, and I was a new car owner at the time so I had no idea I was being overcharged. After 3 visits to BMW (with thousands of dollars of charges), I went to Free State Auto and with one trip they fixed my car's problems. The owners are sincere, they work hard to not charge you a lot even though they are a small company, and they help you understand the issue so you know what to do next time. Seriously recommend it for college students who don't know what to do with their cars when they're broken!

Had some brake and rotor work done a few months ago, they got to it more quickly than expected and there were no unnecessary extras. They were honest and transparent with the invoice and maintained good communications. Also my dog liked them.

Really the only mechanic I feel like I can trust. Had my engine replaced here and not only was it affordable, but service was quick and I was updated consistently on progress. Amazing costumer service. I've only been here twice but the quality of attention I've received received both visits helps me feel confident that I can trust them with any future problems.

I've been taking both of my cars to Free State Auto for over a year and I've consistently had positive experiences. I have found them to be honest and very courteous. From oil changes to complicated repairs this in the only shop I trust.

I was here for a short period of time on a Friday and the owner stated his next opening was Tuesday. He then called back and fit me in explaining everything step by step they did. I run a mortgage office and understand the importance of customer service. He went above and beyond. The prices were very fair. Can't say enough about how pleased I am.
