I took my car here wanting my water pump replaced. Had only leaked for a week or so. It was not a serious leak at all. Never over heated drove great but low coolant light came on. I put a few cups in to top it off and scheduled an appointment.Very unprofessional in many ways. First the technician said when he first tested I had head gasket failure. Then he cleaned his tester and tried again and it came back negative but wanted to inform me. Second we discussed replacing a hose and the water pump. I thought ok I understand that. Now the time we discuss money. Very unprofessional again. They added over $800 on my bill for (just in case it goes bad soon).Thermostat with housing (over $220), (never overheated or gave signs of) manifold tube ($220), (the heater worked GREAT) bleeder plugs $9, a screw $11? Several things to make a dollar. This doesn t even include what I wanted. Wanted to remove and replace engine coolant outlet and hoses for $375. I could (MAYBE) understand that if it was actually bad. When you say hose was not expecting $375. Coolant hose flange over $90. To top it off I paid $72.05 for a diagnosis and they gave me a receipt for $68.31. Watch out people. Not a good shop in my opinion. All this and doesn t even include the real problem in which was just the water pump I had installed by a professional shop that don t include (what ifs) for $700. Problem solved. Save yourself over a thousand dollars and go elsewhere like I did. Proof look at their quote they gave me. Sad what the world is coming to.

I have loved my experience with Slimmer s.I bought an Audi in November and was anxious about making the switch from my Honda to something a little more refined and Slimmer s was so kind and encouraging. Wether having me pull through to check codes and assuring me the sounds were normal. To running an inspection and fixing some minor items. Unfortunately my first Audi was totaled in the winter storms recently, but I am thrilled to be returning with another Audi for them to baby.I was surprised that they remembered me when I called to schedule, as I had only been working with the shop for a few months before I lost my original vehicle, but having the staff ask how I was doing after my accident and celebrating in my new purchase really made me feel welcome and important.Every interaction I have had has felt personal, sincere, and full of integrity.Photo of the old Audi (Red) and new (Silver) just for fun!Services: General repairs & maintenance, Vehicle Inspection

Super great customer service! Very quick to get cars in and out while remaining reliable. Not like other car shops where they try to get you to fix small non urgent issues. Very good at explaining what purchases you re choosing for them to fix as well! Brought this very truck to slimmers a while back. Was told by Marco that this truck could not be fixed and was unsafe to drive. Was told that I need to salvage the truck and they could help me do it. A month later Marco is driving this unfixable and unsafe truck that they had me salvage and has been driving it for well over the past year. He told me he would make it right and never did. Offered to sell me the truck back. Mind you he offered to sell me my own truck that couldn't be fixed and was unsafe that they had me salvage for $300.Service: Auto maintenance

I would like to start by saying Slimmers has always provided great service at competitive prices. Their staff is always kind and helpful.I am writing a review because I was informed today, after years or going to slimmers and referring anyone who asked about a shop to slimmers, that they now only want to work on BMWs. While I understand business is business it is sad to see, especially with a local shop that s been around for so long, that customer loyalty holds no weight. It s a shame that long term paying clients are now no longer important or less they are well off enough to own cars like a BMW. So or less you do, you re gonna have to call somewhere else.Thank you for the years you did help us.Services: Transmission, General repairs & maintenance, A/C installation & repair, Air conditioning

Why I love this place. Tire blew out on sidewall upon hitting city drainage whatever. This 2012 Honda Accord is much loved all four shoes were purchased from Slimmers a year ago and only recently had I made appointment (Friday?-so cancel) to rotate. Anyway, they squeezed me in and it was no hassle, skilled and friendly people on the front and back end so where you going to go? PS If and more like when they are super busy, they will recommend other reliable auto mechanicsService: Tires

Apparently these guys only work on "European" vehicles now which I don't think is actually true because there were lots of non European cars ready for pick up but none the less very annoying. I used to take my vehicle here before the new owners but now it seems they only service cars that are nice enough to be seen there.

I took my BMW 5 series for an alignment, I was very impressed with the facility and was a little worried I'd be paying the price for it lol. But pleasantly surprised the price was decent and they suggested some other work I should get done but didn't feel pressured like you get at other places

Slimmer's Automotive has truly been an awesome place to take my vehicles.Joe has made sure every detail I have requested has been met. Their prices are reasonable and affordable even on a budget. The owner once even took me out on the highway when my vehicle was doing odd things. I truly think highly of them and their expertise.

Just had my daughter's car worked on at Slimmers. Great professionalism, prompt phone updates from both owners (Richie and Marcos), super clean modern shop, and very reasonable price considering the amount of time troubleshooting the issue. Definitely a top notch shop and will recommend Slimmers to everyone.

Ive heard great things about Slimmers but all I can say is that I left incredibly disappointed.I brought my car in to see about getting the AC fixed, they told me I needed a new radiator and AC unit so I listened and paid 2k to fix it. When I got it back I was super happy because it took about 3 weeks and I needed it back. But immediately after I noticed a lot of HUGE issues, car wouldn't accelerate, wouldn't turn off, wouldn't lock or go into park. I had to get it towed in, and they said they'd take a look at it. The receptionist woman was very unfriendly on the phone and in person, which was shocking because most of their other staff seem very polite.When they had it they said they'd fix it in the next week and it took them about 3 more weeks to get it back to me. Then finally I get it back for the second time, and my door dont open from the outside. I emailed them and told them about this issue and I was not rude or anything but I felt like the email I received back was very unfriendly. When I told them about this they told me not to take it to them if I cant trust them with my vehicle, which seems redundant since they are the reason I dont trust them, when I obviously trusted them enough to bring it there and to give them the opportunity to fix whatever mistake was made. I am a young woman and honestly felt a little taken advantage of and or not taken seriously whatsoever. I also received a couple voicemails saying essentially they didn't know what they were doing and they'd never worked on this type of car before (Hyundai Sonata), so Im not sure what "trust" they expect when they treat their costumers like this. They seem to lack a lot of basic costumer service skills and knowledge. They deal with a huge part of peoples lives (their vehicle) and people are bound to be frustrated when stuff is wrong with their car, so if they dont know how to deal with that they just shouldn't.Services: Electrical repair, A/C installation & repair

These guys are THE BEST! We were on hour 13 of a 2 week cross country road trip when a rear wheel bearing on Suburu went out. We took a chance and took our vehicle into Slimmer s hoping to get the repair done so we could get back on the road and onto our destination in Denver so we wouldn t miss our friend s documentary premier. The price was very fair, service was quick and excellent and we are beyond grateful! We are going to make the premier thanks to these automotive wizards!

I've been trying to do more of my own repairs but I've taken my Prius here. Today I called in for to ask about some lights and codes showing up after I replaced my own front wheel bearing. They gave me some great advice and even looked up info for the codes I got and called me back with information. The fact that that they were so helpful even though I wasn't a paying customer right at that moment means a lot especially since I rely on my car for work and I definitely recommend Slimmer's.Service: General repairs & maintenance

I'll only go here for my car issues. They are communicative, prices are very competitive, and get the work done quickly. Wait times for an appointment are a bit long but that's because they are so good everyone goes to them. That and they know what they are doing for my Mini, which many mechanics are clueless about.

So far so good. They did a great, detailed job of looking over my vehicle and identifying issues and potential issues.What makes this spot great is that they take the time to explain and often even show you pictures to educate and show you what is wrong with your vehicle. They know their stuff.I'm taking my truck in for some major repairs shortly so I'll update later but so far this place is awesome and I would definitely bring your vehicle here if you want it to keep running and have excellent service.Update:. They did an excellent job fixing up my truck. It's been a couple of months and I called with a question and they gave me an educated answer. Everything is working great. I highly recommend.This is my favorite mechanic I've ever had work on my vehicle.

Marcos, Ritchie, and the crew run a great operation. Fair and honest, they took time to explain the details of what was needed on my vehicle in terms that a layman could understand.A very cool point of sale service that immediately texts you a rundown of needed services with price quotes was a feature I ve never seen and much appreciated. This will be my car service shop for life!

A friend of mine--a mechanic--once said, if you feel like you could eat off a mechanic's shop floor, that's the mechanic to use. It's been good advice. Slimmer's has always been clean, fair and reliable, but their new shop has allowed them to step up their game. I can be a know-it-all (I get nervous about high bills), and they have talked me out of repairs ... and been right. Love these guys.

I've taken a couple vehicles to Slimmer's over the past few years and I've had just about perfect service from them every time. I finally found a mechanic that I can actually trust. Case in point, one of our vehicles sometimes is not driven 3,000 miles in a year. I brought it in since it had been 6 months or so since its last oil change and I thought it still needed to be done even though it had only been driven about 1,800 miles or so. Joe checked out the vehicle and told me not to bother changing it until it had been 3,000 miles - to do it now would be a waste of money. I suggested we maybe rotate the tires but he said we could wait on that too. Tell me another mechanic that turns down an opportunity to service your vehicle, even if the service isn't necessary??Thanks, Slimmer's. Keep it up and you'll have my business for a long time.

The biggest problem with Slimmer's is that they are the best in town, and are always booked. If you suspect something is wrong with your car, call them early because everyone else is calling them too.

If you want dependable service from an honest professional mechanic at a fair price, please consider Slimmer's Automotive. Slimmer's Automotive has earned the 5 Stars in this review based on consistent work performed on multiple high mileage vehicles over many years. I had a 1994 Honda Civic with over 350,000 miles that ran great, until an accident required it to be salvaged. At present, I drive a 1999 Chevy Capri Station Wagon with 225,000 miles and a 2002 BMW 525i with 198,000 miles. These high mileage vehicles are serviced at Slimmer's Automotive and they run great.The Internet is filled with disgruntled customers that have been wronged in some fashion, posting all the sorted details of why a business is terrible. I know of no organization that is 100% perfect, but I can say that any listed short-comings of Slimmer's Automotive are truly the exception, not the norm.

The serpentine belt on my car slipped off while driving to work Thanksgiving night. I had it towed to Slimmer Automotive in East Lawrence and then left my keys there. Went back this morning only to find out they were closed today. So there I was on a freezing, rainy morning after working all night without my car, my car key, and stupid me, the house key I had left on the key chain. Oh yeah, I was 40 miles from my house.Desperate, I called the owner Pat Slimmer at his home. This wonderful man came in on his holiday break to give me my keys and he put the belt back on my car. For $20. He made me cry. I can not recommend his shop and him as person more highly. Take your cars there, folks.

I appreciate the fact that Slimmer Automotive always tries to save me money by repairing a part rather than taking the easy way out by throwing your money at replacement parts.Example: I had one bad spark plug wire on my daughters car. VW only sold them in sets of six for, if i remember correctly, well over $100. Slimmer Automotive repaired the faulty wire for a fraction of the cost to replace all the wires. This is just one example. I have seen them carry out this same type of skill set on many of my cars over the years. Slimmer Auto worked on my cars when I lived in Lawrence and now I drive in from Kansas City cause it is the ONLY place I trust to give me the best service, on time at an very reasonable price.
