Brought in an older Honda accord with just a couple issues I assumed were minor: fix an inside door handle that had come unlatched and replace a plastic lock cover on the interior door that had broken off. Assumed this would be a simple and easy fix, just didn't have the time to mess with it. I had never been to Doug's, but just trusted the overall positive online reviews.Unfortunately Doug's never quoted me a price, just went ahead and ran a diagnostic ($115) and decided to replace the door lock actuator ($68.99 for the part, $115 for the labor). Ironically this is an older car and none of the other automatic locks work, so given the choice I would have never had them run diagnostics OR replace the door lock actuator. To remove and replace the door lock switch it was another $163.18.By the time all was said and done, the whole ordeal took an entire week and I paid around $500. When I picked the car up only one of the automatic locks was working. I brought this up and was told to add lubrication to get the other locks going. Shocker - that didn't work. Really no huge deal, but why pay hundreds of dollars to fix one door lock motor on an old beat up car if the other three don't work? Logic would say 'just leave it alone.'Had I known what I do now, I would have just kept driving it as it was. Would have been really nice if the crew at Doug's would have thought to involve me in the decision making, or at least given me some other options, before I was stuck with such a high cost for what I thought was going to be a quick and easy fix.I brought all this up with staff, but was told most of their customers just trust them to make these calls. Won't be returning.

The guys at Doug s are great! I highly recommend them for all your car repair needs.They have done everything from the timing belt and water pump on a Lexus to AC repairs on an Xterra to simple oil changes and tire rotation on all my vehicles.They always explain exactly what issues the vehicle has and the best options for repair. If something isn t urgent, they will let you know but make sure you are aware to be keeping an eye on it.The biggest reason I recommend them is that they are honest guys.They will shoot you straight. Ended up needing to replace my water pump and got that diagnosed at Meineke, which you may think would be cheaper than a mechanic. They tried charging me an outrageous amount for just that, so I decided to call around to find a mechanic. Doug s gave me an estimate and was able to get my car in a good time. Right away I could tell these guys were legit. He also found a couple other issues, that meineke wasn t including in there estimate and he gave me a very good deal to get the water pump and those other issues fixed! He charged a lot less than anyone else and wasn t trying to screw me over like you see many mechanics do today! Highly recommend!

I have been bringing my personal vehicles and my work truck to Doug's for over two years now. Initially, I brought my work truck in to correct an issue that was missed by another shop in town. We have had my wife's car in most recently and I have been dealing directly with Nick. Nick is a great communicator and is very thorough, which I'm sure these traits are consistent with the entire team. If one is to shop around, you will find Doug's is more than fair with their pricing and you can feel safe that your issue will be resolved. If there are mechanics out there looking for a job, I can confidently say that Doug's is the Gold Standard in the Lawrence area.Services: General repairs & maintenance, Wheel alignment, Brakes

Very knowledgeable group of techs here. Owner is down to earth and great guy. Not a shady place, and they aren't usually too far out for repairs. 10/10 recommend!5-5-23 Update:: Used these guys again and they got me in much faster than expected. They did a thorough inspection and updated me on a few things that aren't bad yet, but will be in the future. Very honest and not trying to screw me out of money. 10/10 again. Will be my first call anytime I need repairs!

Great job, didn't try to up sale me on anything. There were delays, but it wasn't due to anything these guys had any control over. Will be back and have already recommended them to others.

Few weeks ago they had to fix my car. Had some issues with ol Betsy, my 08 Nissan Altima, that is. Lol. Long story short these guys are great. Extremely fair pricing, excellent quality work and repair . They are really nice and they will definitely take care good of you. Had a window mishap, but that s not their fault. They're a great service, I had a laundry list of 10+ issues I wanted them to look at based on my budget and several tiers of priorities. They fixed my top priority items and called me before doing any work on lower-priority items which would increase my cost. I've had to take my car in twice recently and I was incredibly pleased with my service both times. They gave me updates and didnt make me feel like they were making things up I need fixed like some places do. Doug explained what he did and why he did it in a clear way that I understood, which I appreciated. Every interaction I've had with the employees have felt more like talking to a real human and less like a cog in a machine. I'll definitely keep going here.

Excellent, honest, down-to-earth guys! Both times I've been in they've been direct, helpful, and completely fair. Amazing customer service, Doug was able to sneak me in despite being a man down with a busy day already, and quickly fixed a SNAFU of my own creation which another shop in town couldn't/wouldn't deal with, at a VERY fair price and without trying to sell me parts I didn't need! These guys saved me about $1,000 and had the repair done in no time at all! One of the best experiences as a customer I've had in any business for years. If you need something looked at or are shopping a repair, Definitely keep these guys at the top of your list!

My first time going to Doug s. I heard about them from a friend of mine. Wow! I have found my new go-to car place. Micah was so patient and helpful, even was trying to squeeze me in quickly because I drive a lot for work and need my car. Made the experience stress free and dare I say it, even enjoyable!

Dishonest slide of hand. I set up a appointment and dropped my car off the night before left key in box. Micah called and asked what's my car doing there? I said I talked to you three days earlier and setup a appointment for a estimate. He said he didn't have time but would get to it by end of the week. I called back three days later to check if estimate was finished micah said they just started replacing parts. I asked what is a estimate for if you are just going to start working on it anyway? he had no answer. They put broken tie rod boots on when the tie rods came with new ones. I called he said he'd charge me to put them on. I asked don't they go on with the tie rods?.. he said yeah but would have to wait 3 weeks before they have time to put them on. I wouldn't be taking it back for them to put them on. They don't make a zit on a real mechanics rear. Unprofessional. SCAM ARTISTS.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!If you are looking at reviews to see if you can trust these guys with your vehicle? Search no longer. You found the right place. I've been everywhere in lawrence for my vehicle and I couldn't find nor trust anyone to help me and work with me with my vehicle. Until I brought it to The Staff at Doug's Automotive. Great prices and great customer service. They will work with you to insure you get a fair price for your vehicle. All college students that are having trouble trusting places with you and your vehicle, don't worry about getting messed over. Honest shop, wish more shops were like these guys. Thank you Staff members and Owner of Doug's Automotive. I will be coming here for now on with my car.

We've been using Doug's for about three years; they work on all our family cars. Timing belt & water pump, alignments, brakes, exhaust, radiator...they've done something in almost every area and we've never been disappointed. A knowledgeable, honest mechanic seems to be a rarity these days, so it's really nice to have found one. Doug, Micah and the crew are a pleasure to deal with.

These guys go ABOVE and BEYOND. Absolutely the best experience I have ever had with a auto shop. Mike is such a nice person, a really good guy. With my daughter attending school out of state, it really sets my mind at ease knowing that if something goes wrong - and it has- that my daughter's car is in great hands with these guys. Highly recommend!!!

What a blessing to have an auto repair shop that is honest and will go above and beyond. Took my car in with a bad alternator this morning. They worked it into their busy schedule, but the new part ordered was defective. Micah & Trent stayed after closing time to get the part reordered, installed and my vehicle back on the road for the weekend. Can't say enough about Doug & his crew. Great customer service guys!

Doug's Automotive is a great auto mechanic/shop. I am new to Lawrence and had an emergency situation with my car. I showed up at the shop at 8am on Monday and they were able to work on my car while servicing their appointments. The work was done efficiently and the cost was very reasonable. Great customer service by Mike and his crew! They have definitely found another customer and will certainly be a referral in the future. Thanks, Doug's Automotive!

Wish I knew about this place before. I was tired of going to shops and trying to be upsold on things I really didn't need. This shop is the best from the receptionist, mechanics.and owner. They are honest, knowledgeable and reasonable. Thanks for making my experience wonderfulWill definetely.be back and have recommended others to you.

Mike and Doug are the best personalities ever. I have been doing business with Doug even before Mike and Doug is knowledgeable and caring. I was a female divorces and not once did Doug not solve problems with my vehicle. They still do that with our 2 vehicles. Most of all cheers for my trying the cruise control on big red that had not worked &yeah it was great! They will never disappoint you!
