I had gotten my car fixed at Dan's auto in 2022 and I was 21 years old. For reference, I do not know much about cars, and I feel as though I was taken advantage of for being a young uneducated woman.I have a 2010 mercury, Milan . I went to get my tire rod replaced in 2022 because of annoying squeak.The tire rod was replaced. Conveniently the next day after getting the car fixed the gears on my vehicle had shifted upwards which restricted me from placing my car all the way into park. Since the car was not in park all of the way it didn't allow me to take out the keys out of the ignition.I had notified an employee at Dons auto about the problem. They told me basically that they had nothing to do with the new problem and if I wanted to have it look at it they would pay for the towing but I would have to pay for the service. But if it they didn't cause it I would have to pay for the tow and for the inspection.The customer service was very rude, short with me and not understanding at all. I didn't not end up getting my car towed because I felt as though they would place the blame on me therefore more money out of my pocket.The occurrence of the issue was conveniently right after I had gone to Don's auto.This issue still brothers me, my car is still broken and that is why I decided to make this post. Also to help other young woman from being taken advantage of.I will not be going here again.

I couldn t say enough good things about Don s. This place is and excellent auto shop. I ve been using them for a few years now since I moved to Lawrence and I won t take my vehicles anywhere else. Mike is very transparent at explaining what needs to be done giving you a quote and sticking to it. He s even found and fixed other issues unrelated to what I originally brought my car in for and that just shows they are very thorough on inspecting the whole car. Everyone is so friendly. The lady who answers the phones i can t remember her name but she is very polite and super nice. These are good people and excellent business owners. Don t hesitate to take your vehicle here for any repairs.

Make sure you have repairs worth their while Mike was too lazy to even make a quote for repair. Why would I want to take my vehicle there.

I had my power steering fixed here. When it was fixed the first time I was told by Mike it was fixed . Come to find out he did the least amount of work, didn t fix it completely as said, to charge me an outrageous amount. Then I return to speak about the warranty and what he can do because my power steering went out again. He was extremely defensive and aversive while I was trying to understand the issue. I left the car with him and did the minimalist job because he didn t have enough time. If he did the job well the first time there wouldn t have been an issue. The customer service and transparency was an issue. I m hoping Mike was only having a bad day and wasn t rude to anyone else but me. I will not be returning to this shop as the trust is not there.Service: Steering & suspension replacement

It was, as always, excellent professional & timely service. The tech told me exactly what he did & why. Gave me complete & detailed report. The office & reception area was very clean & tidy as well both front end employees were polite even though busy with in & out customer & the phones ringing! I give this establishment a rating of 12 on a 1 - 10 scale.

Mike takes great care of us! It's nice to know of the many technicians in his shop, at least one of them has the experience and already knows how to fix any problem you may be having with your car! When I described our acceleration issue, one of the mechanics knew immediately what was happening and how to diagnose and isolate which part needed replacing.

I didn't have any work done by them but that's how you know they're honest. They aren't there just to collect a check from you, they'll work with you to get your project where it needs to be.Update: I ended up going back and getting a cylinder head resurfaced. They did an excellent job at a good price. I highly recommend this shop.

We've been going here for at least ten years. They have always had exceptional service. They don't hassle you or guilt trip you if your vehicle hasn't been repaired in a while. They let you know what repairs are needed the most and understand that you can't afford all repairs. We've never had an issue from a repair and they get everything done in a timely manner. They are also really nice people.

We've been taking our cars to Don's for years and have always been impressed by their honesty and practicality. We've brought in cars thinking they'd need major repair and they've told us they just needed a new gasket. They've never pushed for unnecessary work or maintenance and understand the need to just keep an older car running. AND, are very timely, they get the work done on the time of day quoted or many times much earlier.Bruce & Jeanne Wright

Mike, the owner of Don's Auto, operates the best repair shop I have experienced in over 40 years of car ownership. I generally have at least a couple of older cars I need to keep running and Mike has been flawless in getting the job done for over 10 years now. He and his staff have always been friendly and polite and they exhibit without question the most integrity and fairness I have ever seen. Just the most recent example: 2 weeks ago my son's PT Cruiser was having some problems with steering and handling; Mike called to explain the cause and clearly explained what he recommended. I approved the repair and the car was ready when promised with the final bill equal to the pre-repair estimate. However, when I called Carol to arrange for payment over the phone Mike came on the line to report that a hubcap had come off and was apparently lost during the final test drive. The result: Mike bought new hubcaps and installed all 4 at no extra charge. My son loves his new caps! I could go on with similar tales of Mike's integrity and fairness but folks, believe me, this is the best repair shop in Lawrence! PS - just for all the skeptics and cynics out there - I have no connections of any kind to anyone at Don's Auto - I speak on my own behalf only.

I was recommended to Don's Auto by a "townie" and I have to say they are the best mechanics in Lawrence. They treat a female with respect and don't talk down to me. This is a problem I've run into other repair places here in town. Mike always explains what the problem is in a clear way, and makes recommendations for potential maintenance issues I need to be aware of. Very professional, great communication, and service!

I was very impressed with the customers service and honesty from the shop. My daughter's car shutoff unexpectedly while she was driving through Lawrence. On the following business day they called my daughter to report the car was fixed. Apparently the battery cable became loose. I was expecting some type of minimum fee at best or a full hour labor charge at worst. Turns out there was no charge and they sent my daughter on her merry way. With her attending KU, I will be sending her there for repairs from now on.

Mike gave me a quote to fix my pathfinder and was right at the quote when I got the invoice. Fixed several issues and the truck has been running great since. Happy customer!

Great job. My daughter is in school in Lawrence and was having issues with her car. They were done a day early and at a very reasonable rate.

Terrible customer service, Mike was very rude and unprofessional. My car was worse after bringing it to them, I believe they may have busted a hose making the hole bigger and didn't want to take responsibility and was rushing me out the door when I simply just asked if there was a reason why my car is not driveable now after getting another issue unrelated fixed. He told me not to bring my car back there and I will for sure never bring it back to this shady place or refer anyone. Bad experience for me.

Always had a good experience with Don's and thankful that they are honest and do great work, recommended by a fellow KU employee and mentioned that when I went there to have them work on my son's car. They came through when other auto shops didn't do the job.

Rick and the service staff took excellent care and recommend some maintenance. Definitely be back for repairs to my Lincoln LS. Went above and beyond to inspect my car .
