Anna is so accommodating! I stayed yesterday at the American inn it's very nice clean hotel ! They are doing renovations m excited to see new renovated rooms ! They only things we noticed yesterday the one group was so rude kids was running in hallway and parents can't control or teach them manners! They kicked so many times my door and I told front desk manager she was nice apologized quite a bit staff was keep asking that rude group not to be noisy and control the kids but the didn't even listen their parents were drunk so they don't care about their kids ! sometimes some guest never respect and staff couldn't control them ! It's not hotel manger fault or staff hotel staff very friendly!Their pool is always open 9 am to 11pm .I would stay again when I come back in town !Thank you for great service!

I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. We stayed in a king suite and the floor plan was perfect for my needs due to my husband likes to sleep longer than I do. The living room was separated by French doors from the bathroom and bedroom which was ideal. The staff were very pleasant and courteous too which is always a plus! The location wasn t for me because our window view was a mechanic shop. The price was actually great for the suite too. We will definitely be back.

Every time I come back down home this is the hotel I stay at. I like the fact that it is next to a police station, And it s kind of in the middle of everything. I have never had a complaint, until my most recent stay. I booked this hotel from November 22, 2023 through November 26, 2023. For my four month old and myself. I booked a handicap accessible room, as I knew I would be bringing a lot of stuff, mainly for my daughter, and would be using the stroller a lot. I figured this would be the easiest way to get in and out of the room. When I was about 20 minutes away, I got a call from the hotel setting that my room had my given To someone else. They told me they would give me an upgrade, upon arrival. They also told me that I would be compensated in someway for the inconvenience, as the lady I spoke to said, she understood why I asked for the room that I booked. Upon arrival, I went and checked into my room that was on the second floor, the floors looked like they had not been vacuumed. There was crumbs all over the floor, urine in the toilet, hair ties and toilet paper behind the toilet, Gunk in the sink, and food is still in the fridge. I have never had an experience like this, and hope I never have one again as I truly like this hotel.

I will stay here again. The room was very clean. There were extra towels in the bathroom which I really appreciated. I am including a photo of the room chair to show that although it is not new, it is clean. The pool area is set up well. It has a bathroom in the pool room which is great if you are traveling with kids. There are also vending machines in the pool area too. Furthermore the pool area and the lobby have decent views of the downtown area. The hotel is centrally located and has fairly easy walkability to some downtown restaurants.

Terrible. All around just terrible. New management/owners especially the woman Anna is very crass, rude and just outright disrespectful to guests. They do not listen to what you re inquiring then reassure you that it s all figured out, after multiple phone calls and guests from your party going in person to make sure plans are going to go accordingly. You show up they do not apologize for messing up/double booking the only conference room they have or offering discounts, etc. We ask for certain accommodations and the owner messes those up as well. They changed their pool hours to 1pm everyday and did not provide any of this information during blocking/booking. Then to see her treat other guests the way she did by screaming at them across the front desk. That was enough. Our family definitely will not be returning. Overall horrible to no hospitality whatsoever. Safety: Blocks of cement in front of building and inside lobby, rolled up carpets all over the lobby. So many safety hazards. The pool room floor is also broken. Huge chunks of rock missing.

Do not stay here. Mike the owner is rude. We were in town for a funeral and had 2 nights booked. The cancellation policy on there website says you need to cancel 24 hours before check in. Check in is at 4:00. We decided not to stay two nights and called 24 hours before check in and told us we could not cancel. Mike started with an attitude so we gave him one back. He canceled both rooms on us and told us to go some where else. Joke is on him for we have stayed at this hotel over 20 times and will now lose out on all those future stays plus we are going to let all our family that usually stays there as well know how rude this guy was. I told him we were in town for a funeral and he said to me " I don't care, don't come here". Real Classy. I would advise you to stay at a better hotel down the road like Hampton Inn or Cobblestone or the Holiday Inn. Good luck keeping this hotel open when you treat customers like this.

I love coming to this place for open swim or even just getting a room for the night. The desk people are very kind and respectful. Tacy always has a smile on her face when I walk in and Carlos is always at the desk willing to help with whatever my questions may be when I need to check out in the mornings. Would be nice to see more Carlos around as he always has a bubbly personality. Tacy is always happy and willing to help with any questions or concerns I may have when I come in. She has a bright and bubbly personality and a willingness to help people.

Judging by the way you respond to people who have stayed in "your" Hotel, you are a very piss-poor excuse of an owner and have no sense of professionalism, respect, or common sense to listen to the people when they make their reservations of various rooms, nor when they say they have kids with SPECIAL NEEDS. You should probably find a new profession. Good luck with your trash hotel, Karen.

Spacious comfortable room but the floor mounted hvac unit was a bit finicky. The very low mounted toilet in the bathroom makes it difficult to get up from since there is no grab bar, nor is there a grab bar in the tub&shower which is potentially rather unsafe.Safety: See above

I would give negative if I could. American inns has CHANGED! I only go there for the pool. But gosh the past few times it has been awful. The woman at the front desk acted like I owed her a lot of money . There was not a smile. They flip flopped on rules and charges. I went in there at 32 degrees with my kids trying to have a 2 hr swimming.. they told me no punch cards .. while a week ago a guy had told me I could have punch cards the last time ever. No going there ever again. Not going to any American inns EVER.

When I pulled up to the property, mattresses and trash were thrown outside the front door. At first, I thought that couldn't be the front door, so I drove around a bit. Nope, it was. That should have been indication enough that this wouldn't be where I wanted to stay, but I had booked the room, so I went in. Check-in was fine, and I went to my room. At first, I thought it would be okay, a bit dated, but the room was big, so I decided to stick it out. That is until I went near the bed and found a bug in the bed! That was it. I called another hotel to book a room. When I went to tell the front desk I was leaving, about six people were trying to check in. The front desk person looked at me, frustrated, and declared she couldn't help me. I said I would wait, but she continued to stare at me as if she wanted me to tell her. So I told her I couldn't stay here. She asked why in a gruff tone, and I told her, looking at all the people waiting, I don't think you want me telling you now. She continued to look at me, and I told her - a bug in my bed!She told me she couldn't do anything and to call the manager in the morning. So, I left. And in the morning, I called the manager, who didn't apologize but told me she had someone come out, and it wasn't bed bugs. Great! Glad to hear that, but I want my money back. After a 5-minute conversation of excuses, She told me they credited my account last night. I would have led with that! It was a horrible experience!

The desk people watched guests coming and going without greeting them but offering rude stare downs instead. Not super friendly or welcoming.Noteworthy details: Warmest pool out of any hotel I've been to. Very nice

Stayed here in Jan '23 for one night. The room was fine. Clean, comfortable but nothing special. A bit of noise from the other rooms. But the front desk staff was fantastic. I was to catch Amtrak the next day but the train was running several hours late. The staff let me stay in the room as long as I needed and was very nice in trying to help me find an alternative to get to Chicago. I ended up taking the train but the small town hospitality made my stay there much better.

I rate this hotel stay as just okay. It is close to downtown. It felt as if the staff had no pride in the building.Walkability: Walkable to downtown.

This place has really gone down hill since last year. Not sure if they have new management but the customer service is extremely poor!Carpets were filthy dirty in my room. When you turned on the water in the shower the smell of mold was awful.I agreed to put my charges on my Wyndham CC (per Wyndham's request) and was told I would get a block rate like everyone else in my party received. When I approached the manager (Anna) showing her my card she and Mike refused to give me the block rate because they were full. Another excuse I received was because I booked it online off the Wyndham website they were not going to honor it.I explained to them again what I was promised...Mike threatens me and rudely asks me if I wanted to stay or not. Funny thing...I have already paid for the room. Customer service is one thing this hotel needs to work on!On Saturday Anna and Mike apparently had their families over for a reunion in the lobby. This looked extremely unprofessional as Anna and Mike were out in the lobby sitting down while guests were expected to wait for them in between family conversations.I stayed two nights and had 6 trips to the front desk because the key cards would shut off. They tried to say that I had the keysnext to an electronic device which clearly was never the case. After checkout on Sunday...I returned at noon as I had left a magnet pin on the desk in the room. I explained to the clerk at the front desk that I had left it and would like to return to the room to grab it. She left the front desk for over 5 minutes and returned rekeying another card for me to enter. I asked her if anyone had been in the room yet. She informed me no one had been in the room. I made my way up to room 318 and found the door lock was turned outwards to keep the door open and ajar. I entered the room to find the trash gone and beds stripped. No pin in site. I politely asked the cleaning lady in the next room if she had by chance picked it up. Very nice lady who informs me that she has not been in the room....only the lady who stripped the beds and the front desk staff. I asked her if the lady who stripped the beds was available for me to check with. She told me that I would need to check with the front desk staff to see where she was at.Back to the front desk I headed. I questioned her as to why she told me no one had been in the room when she clearly was just in there. She rudely tells me she is the front desk staff...and then tries to pull off that she doesn't understand she was just caught in a lie. I asked her if she would contact the lady who stripped the bed to see if she may have picked it. I am told that she has gone back to the half way house. We all know the pin will never be returned.I have contacted their corporate office and filed a complaint.

STAY AWAY! this place is horrible. The manager, Ana Patel, who also says she is the owner, is the rudest woman I have ever met. Complaints filed on every level against this place. I have also filed a complaint with ottumwa police dept. Continues to try and charge my card for extra charges. I have pictures of room to verify! This place recently changed hands. You can look around at the condition and see its run like a 7 11. Give it a few months and guarantee it will continue to go down hill. I can't believe wyndham even allows their name attached to it.

This was my 1st time here. The room was ok but not great. There was damage to the closet door. Was a bit dusty throughout. There was a chip in the shower wall. The plug-ins to the lamp were too close to the base so the phone charger didn't really fit. It was quiet enough I suppose but the pillows were oddly small and not comfortable.

Don't really know where to begin.I called and seen if there were rooms. Yes there were. The clerk asked me on the phone if we had any animals I said yes. She said it was OK we would be charged a pet fee of $25 I was ok with that.Booked my room online drove to hotel. When I went to check in the clerk was getting charges ready and when I said we ha a cat she said sorry we don't take cats.I told her she didn't ask me what we had. I was upset yes, but she started going off as if I was. By the way the room was over $100.I wanted to ask her a question she says she doesn't need for me to be rude to her. I felt she was the one being rude.Anyway I went and decussed the room and no pets and he said we could just let him sleep in vehicle. So I went back in and I do believe I apologized I don't remember if she did. After we both seemed to be calmed down we got a room right in front of our vehicle. All in all we did get a night's sleep.Big breakfast Thanks Flo

I have stayed at this hotel several times over the last few years. My room is always clean as well as the rest of the hotel. The beds, pillows and bedding are always very comforting. They have a very good breakfast with something for everyone. The staff is always super friendly. I know when I m staying here that I m going to have a great experience.

This hotel is VERY clean, old and outdated? Sure. But for me I prefer cleanliness over modern anyday.Rooms: The room was very tidy and clean!

When I first arrived I didn't expect much being in Ottumwa. The lobby was meh at best, elevator reeked, and room was dated. Where this shined included the hot tub in the room, complimentary salts to throw in it, and cleanliness of the room. (I'm very picky) Hot breakfast also looked good, but didn't have time to try it so grabbed a muffin and coffee.I took the room rating down slightly due to the thin walls. They were trying to clean, which I understand has to be done, using an excruciatingly loud vacuum after 9. Plus, you could hear everything outside on the street level as well. Beds A+, pillows were square and hard as a brick, but after the tub I didn't care after a long day of travelling. For the price, I would highly recommend for the weary traveller or family looking for a clean budget-friendly establishment.

The hotel was the upmost cleaniest of any hotel that I have stayed in! The cleaning staff worked hard and the guest staff were nice and helpful. My husband s back suffered a little with the bed but I slept pretty alright. We would stay there again if up that way.Rooms: The king room we had was nice with a jacuzzi tub. Bed not quite comfortable enough for my husband s back but he made due. Everything was exceptionally clean!!! Shout out to the cleaning ladies on floor 2. It was quiet too!!!! Parking lot always full but never heard a peep from anyone! I thought that we might be too loud! LolWalkability: Little shops and a cafe or two within a block or two walking distanceFood & drinks: We used our google maps and found different places to eat. Talked with a local and found the best wings place to eat, Benchwarmers Bar and grill. Wings were great!
