Highly recommend. The tire I wanted wasn t in stock, so they gave me a more expensive one for the price of the ones I originally asked for. Took time to explain the differences between tires, and work quick. Support local!

I ve used this shop before in the past and LOVED Russ he truly is one of a kind. Called and came in tonight because my car was shaking on the highway, was treated very nicely over the phone, but when I got in, it was a completely different story. I was basically told to take my business elsewhere because I was standing inside waiting to be helped (for over 20 minutes) because the guy was flustered. I m sad to be leaving this review because I really don t do this, and I really love Russ, but that was absolutely unacceptable and I will be taking my car to another shop in Iowa City from now on.Service: Oil change

Russ's has been our Go To our neighborhood shop for 20 years. They are always efficient, honest, and thorough in their work. They have uncovered bad work or work that should not have been missed by other shops, but they do NOT bad talk others. They focus on doing what needs doing, being observant, and getting things done right the first time. Always get fantastic service here. Last time I took my car in to check on some braking issues it turned out my rotors were almost completely shot. I was trying to leave town right before the 4th of July weekend and they got me in and out in about two hours even though I gave them no prior notice. Cannot say enough good about them.

Russ's is a neighborhood garage in the old and best sense. It's not associated with any dealership or big usiness. They service a variety of makes and models for many problems. They've always been fair to me. If you have an urgent problem, they will work with your schedule. And since they are right in downtown Iowa City, if you work there, you can drop your car off in the am and easily pick it up at the end of the day.

Amazing! Had a breakdown on a Friday afternoon from out of state. Panic set in and they were the closest shop on the list! Did an amazing job, extremely fast. Ready to go in a few hours and they wrangled the part out of a warranty at no cost. Lifesavers! AMAZING! Good, honest, friendly people. I brought my car in with a muffler problem, they said they could fix it but it would be cheaper somewhere else. They didn't ask for a dime, but my car was in better shape when I left. The guy even asked if I needed a lift to work.I would recommend this place to anyone, I wish I could give it 6 stars because it deserves it.

I've been going there for a long time and he's treated me really nice that whole time he would let you know how much it cost and if he couldn't fix it he would find somebody that would fix it that for reasonable price so he is a good place to go

My wife and I have been taking her car to Russ's since we moved to Iowa eight months ago, and every time it seems like we pay way more than we should. We pay double-price for oil changes that last half as long as our old place's. We were recently told to put off changing our brake pads (despite our insistence!), only to be told a month later that they were badly worn and we'd need to replace the rotors also. We'll definitely be taking our car elsewhere when the backs need replacing.The employees are personable and have that friendly "local mechanic" feel, which may be enough to satisfy people who aren't too concerned about what they pay, but my wife and I feel like we've been duped into dumping extra money into her car. We'll have no regrets about finding someplace else for our auto needs.

Honestly the best repair team you can get. Never overcharge, truly care about the customer and safety. I ve been going here for three years and every repair they ve done has been perfect. I always feel safe when I leave Russ s. Special shoutout to Chris for truly being the best mechanic I ve ever seen.

I took my car in to get the shocks looked at. Didn't have to wait to get my car in, I called and dropped off my car 10 mins later. Turns out problem I was having is covered under warranty, and they didn't charger for their diagnostic service. Everyone has been very friendly, I will absolutely be going back.

Russ' Northside is the best around! Knowledgeable, helpful, and willing to go the extra mile to make sure you are taken care of. You won't find better customer service anywhere else! Highly recommend!

Brought my mom's vehicle in for a tire check. They did it immediately and for no charge. Plain and simple, they are good people and no one else will ever touch my car.

Good shop if you need an oil change or tires, But if you need real stuff done to your car go elsewhere. The mechanic diagnosed my car as having a bad transmission. He even tried to explain how he knew it was bad because in his opinion it felt like the transmission was slipping when he drove it around the block, once. I then took it to a transmission shop and they looked at it and found that the transmission was fine. I then took it to another shop and they ran the codes and found that it was a mass airflow sensor that was malfunctioning. The mechanic at Russes stated that I should just junk my car and find a new one on Craig's list for $1000 since it was an older model (Probably because he couldn't figure out the real problem he did seem very novice). Hell my car JUST got 120k on the engine I've had it for 6 years even though it may look rough (due to hail damage) it is a hard running dependable machine till just recently. Doesn't even leak oil and the AC still works for a 1993..He stated it would cost me at least $1300 to fix when the actual problem only cost less than $100

I love Russ's. They are always very honest about what is going on and how important the fixes are. If something isn't worth the repair, they tell you. Couldn't recommend more highly!!

If you need a jump start they will let you borrow a battery pack. Great neighborhood repair shop. Nice folks

I went to Russ' after I was upsold at another auto repair shop. The employees at Russ' checked out my fluid levels and confirmed the the other repair shop was trying to scam me. It overall saved me $250! I will continue to go to Russ' after my experience today.
