Went through this shop to get new tires. The new tires were fine, but during the time my truck was at the shop, the passenger door handle was broken. They tried to use glue to hold it back on, but that failed miserably. When I went back to see if they could refund me or compensate me in some way for their negligence, I was told by the store manager it wasn't up to him and had to check with "Customer Service", and haven't heard back since. Thankfully, I was able to get a decent response through Goodyear directly to make up for the poor service from Car-X. Not recommended.Update: Refund was provided by corporate so I've updated my review score to reflect this.

We were traveling in a time crunch and needed a part on our car fixed. We called 5 different places on our travel route and were told by all of them they couldn t help us. Car-X is an excellent place for car repairs. Rob and Ford are fantastic managers. This location does most car repairs for the company I help manage. They always get things done quickly. The management team here is very knowledgeable about cars. They will make sure things get done right. I highly recommend this Car-X location.

I just took my car in for an oil change. They rotated my tires and did a free car inspection. During the inspection, they found a broken part. Even waiting for the replacement part to be delivered and replaced, I was out the door in less than two hours. Thank you, Rob and staff. Ford is incredibly knowledgeable about cars and is very helpful at recommending ways to better the life of your vehicle. I used to bounce around from one car maintenance shop to the other. As of the past 6 months I only go to this Car X because I know they conduct thorough inspections, they are honest about what is needed to be fixed, and they recommend ways to improve your vehicle s life. I have been going to this Car-X for years. On this occasion, I went in with an offer mailed to my home. The manager told me he wouldn't honor the deal on the card, and when I questioned him, he got visibly upset. He looked away from me and treated me as if I were unreasonable. He proceeded to leave the lobby for the work area until I called him out for being disrespectful. He appeared like someone who was willing to get into a physical altercation. Unfortunately, I needed their services at that time, or I would've gone somewhere else. Then, I watched this manager scream and yell at his assistant manager on three to four occasions. The assistant manager honored the deal on the mailer despite my protest in fear of the manager retaliating against them. I'll never go back to Car-X again! Update! The owner responded to my post with contact customer service, but if my post had been positive, the response would have been more personal sounding. Check other responses.

Good service. Staff are very personable. Prices seem competitive. I've had a good experience twice now, and I've had a friend who also had a good (and very fast repair) experience. I think I've found my go-to in town. Only drawback (which isn't really a drawback), is that a ton of other people also seem to feel this way, so Car-X stays busy. Gotta schedule ahead of time if you want in.

I had an excellent experience. I had my tires installed and an oil change.Cody is a wonderful manager. Friendly and efficient! I highly recommend them. They are a little short staffed but I hope they get more great mechanics!

I was treated respectfully and professionally. The manager was quite knowledgeable as was his staff. They did not try any "funny business" or up sale me on things the car did not need.They were quite thorough in their inspection. And gave me insight into things that needed fixed or will need fixed down the road. In my opinion they are very trustworthy and my wife and I look forward to taking in all our vehicles in future.

Update 03/22/2022: after contacting corporate customer service and emailing all of the documents again, we have received no response. Nothing at all. Complete radio silence despite the fact that this location cost us nearly $1000 in damage to our vehicle. Very poor customer service and mechanic service. do yourself a favor and AVOID AT ALL COST!!!On 7/18/2020 we had an oil change and tire rotation done on our car. I thought it was a simple service and not much could go wrong. Well, I found out what could go wrong. A year later, we got a flat tire and while attempting to change the tire, we discovered that all of the studs on the tire had been stripped and we had to have the car towed to our mechanic because the spare was unusable. Our mechanic explained that the lug nuts had been over torqued and the studs were not only ruined, the entire wheel hub needed to be replaced for a cost of $574. Not only that, the other wheel hub on that side of the car would need to be replaced as well. We had our mechanic replace the wheel hub on the one side so we had a working car and went to CarX to talk to them about the situation. The first manager tried to take the damaged part from us and as we later discovered, never actually made any record of our complaint. The second (the first one was no longer employed) manager that we spoke to agreed to fix the second hub, but told us we had to go to corporate to get the cost of the repair by our mechanic refunded. several weeks later, we received a refund of the original cost of the oil change and tire rotation ($104). The third (the second manager was no longer employed) told us we had to deal with corporate. An email we sent was not responded to. Avoid this company and specific location at all costs.Services: Tire rotations, Oil change

Had an amazing experience at Car-X! I came in needing new tires and they were very helpful in finding the tires that worked well with my budget, need and quality desired! They didn t stop there, they offered me the Drive Card which made it easier for me to get tires on my car without having to worry about a huge downpayment. I Will continue to take my car there as the staff is friendly and honest, which is hard to come by now a days. They are also knowledgeable and explain things in a manner where they don t make you feel like your just another car dummy!

When I called ahead to make an appointment about twenty minutes before closing time, I had no idea they would see me right away. The manager at the front desk, Toby, was extremely helpful. They got my car fixed up right away. This was my first time visiting this car repair shop and I was very happy with the quality of the service and the helpfulness of the staff. I will definately be taking my car back there in the future if I have issues with it.

Fast service, knowledgeable and helpful staff. I brought my car in for an oil change and to have some issued checked out by their staff. The issues turned out to be bigger then I thought, and the staff were very helpful in advising me on how to move forward. Everyone was helpful, nice, and easy to deal with. I would certainly go here again.

One of my car doors cannot open wide, due to a hit and run yesterday. Today the staff at CarX was so friendly and generous. He fixed the fender with a simple tool within minutes. When asked how much, the staff said don't worry about it, and did not charge me at all. It was raining at that time, and a little chilly, but I felt so happy and warm. Thank you so much!!

They were very nice but the general manager doesn t care about the safety of their customers. I took my car in for a general check on what s wrong. The mechanic was very thorough and good through the check but the general manager didn t tell us that the mechanic found a crack in the frame that was not safe or drivable. The mechanic came out after getting our keys and expressing the seriousness of not driving the vehicle. We have a 1 yr old and a baby on the way which made this very frustrating and upsetting

They are operating with less than ideal staff yet they do not allow that to effect their positive, friendly & professional demeanor. A trait I find incredibly telling in which business I choose and can trust for services that one needs every now and again.

2019 - Place has gone bad since change of managements.I came for a regular maintenance, the manager tried to squeeze extra $$$ on expensive oil and 100$ coolant replacement. Gut feeling is last manager got sacked for being too honest with people.2018 This is what I wrote: (4-star review)This place is so attentive and staff is so helpful, I was so lucky to run into them when my car got stuck! They replaced my alternator with a lifetime warranty, and fixed a brake pad for close to half the price offers others gave me. Tobi is the best.

Made an appointment same-day to have tires balanced and mounted. They were able to get it done in 1 hour. For reference, my previous experiences at Coralville location Costco and Walmart took 2 hours and 3 hours, respectively. I also like that they gave me the full "out the door" price up front.Service: TiresService: Tires

I use to be wary of chain shops like Carx. However, ever since I met Toby, who is in charge of this location currently, I feel very comfortable and confident in the service and information I receive. He gives clear answers and very reasonable recommendations should you need to budget and prioritize the work you need done on your car. I now understand why it's important to schedule an appointment. They're so good at what they do that they're always busy!

Called for a Saturday morning appointment on a Tuesday. Arrived at the agreed upon time and was told that I wasn't acrually given an appointment, but I could leave my car there and then come back seven hours later to pick it up. If I hadn't been led to believe I'd scheduled an appointment that might have worked, but since I was, I didn't make arrangements to be without a vehicle for seven hours.Just be forthright in the future? Doesn't seem that difficult.

Josh at the Iowa City Car-X & Auto is an outstanding manager and communicator. We ve seen him go above and beyond several times this year and our lives were improved because we chose Car-X in Iowa City and Ames! If I could get cool pictures to display you d see a first time car buyer, my college-age daughter, be her happiest because Josh swooped in with his excellent staff and patched up what was wrong, including the engine (just a little matter). Brian and Josh went above and beyond. We felt like we were family when we worked with Josh and his staff.

This place is a joke! I was quoted around over $1000 dollars to get my brakes done. Josh was even 'nice' enough to tell me, "this is just for the parts, we aren't charging you labor." If you get this line, or before going there at all, I would look at the prices of car parts at Advanced Autoparts, which is right next door (though I'd price compare online) and call around. There are absolutely better options than this.

This is the second time I ve tried to receive service from here. I had an appointment to have my oil changed. I was told, we ll get it in when we can. I asked about an estimated wait time and the front desk guy always acts like he s bothered when you ask him questions. I was told it ll be 2 hours before they get my vehicle in when I had an APPOINTMENT that I was ON TIME for arrival. There s better options. I shouldn t have come back just because I got an emailed coupon. Will not try this place again, ever.
