I did not have a good experience. The staff seems to be friendly. However the only reason I went there because I wanted to use their coupon that I get many times from them. However they it does not apply to my vehicle. No explanation and I did not bother to ask either.

This used to be a five-star review, but unfortunately after today I ll be servicing my vehicle elsewhere. I have always used Car-X, but I have had too many disappointments lately. I tried to make an appointment online, and I never heard back so I ended up calling and got a later time. I tried to use their WiFi after dropping off my vehicle so I could work, and they didn t know what their own WiFi was. I left and spoke on the phone with the owner about my repair, and I had some questions about it. I asked if I could call him right back, and he said that was fine. I called back about 15 minutes later, and he had left for the day without communicating our conversation to anyone else. I go pick up my car and was vastly over-quoted for a part I could find elsewhere for much less. They couldn t replicate the issue I was having with my oil light coming on, so they left it alone. They checked to make sure my oil itself was full, and said it was fine. I left and my car smelled of cigarettes. When I got home, my oil light was on and my car was leaking oil underneath. I checked the oil myself, and it was low.I have a new appointment with another company to hopefully get my issues resolved. I ve had great experiences in the past but lately it s been nothing but a headache.

Good people very reasonable. I told the lads exactly what I wanted done they did exactly that. Of course they called to see if I wanted to replace my Catalytic Converter for another $800 . I couldn t afford that so they didn t pressure me into doing that extra job.Overall decent price, great service. I ll be back.

Excellent service and work. Very professional mechanics and the managers go out their way to assist you and explain the reasons of what is happening to your car. Chris is very patient and friendly and goes out of the way to help customers. This place will do a good job and work with you and not overcharge or do services that do not to be done. I love these guys!! I ve been coming here for years for car repair and maintenance, both big and small jobs. They are friendly, fair, professional, and honest. They get me in on short notice and always communicate well no matter what the issue is with my car. Today they pulled a nail out of my tire, patched it, and sent me home. No charge. I highly recommend CarX on 86th St. in Clive

Great place to get your car worked on. Very knowledgeable & friendly. While reasonable I'd still say it's too expensive. But mechanics did their job well while being friendly. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a mechanic or shop to trust.

I've been coming to this location for pretty much everything for a couple years now. From simple oil changes to more serious concerns with my vehicle, my experience here has always exceeded my expectations. The staff have always been very kind and take the time to explain things I may not understand, or help break down the pricing for repairs and services. They have always been very transparent and honest, and are willing to work with me to get repairs done in a way that works with my schedule and budget. Luke really stood out to me today, as he took the time to clearly explain what their findings were and what steps I should take from here. I can't thank all of the staff there enough for making my experiences as stress-free as possible. Definitely will be continuing to visit this shop for the foreseeable future :)

These are the most expensive oil changes around. Even with a coupon, full synthetic was $130.If you send out coupons without expiration dates, I expect the coupon to be honored or at least to pay somewhat close to the coupon price.

Never going back.I had heard they offer $20 oil changes. When I brought my car in, they routed me to the master mechanic, claiming there was a problem with my brakes. I told them to go ahead with whatever they recommended, which ended up being new pads and rotors for both axles. If you re smarter than me, you ll find out this is supposed to be a $500-$600 TOTAL. My final bill came out to $1,400, including an oil change for $100. Total ripoff.Services: Auto brake repair, Oil change

They did their job, and so far, so good, great customer service, and the mechanics are funny and nice as well. I believe they treat your vehicle as if it was their own, like it's gold and precious!

Gabriel and Nicole really helped us out a few weeks ago in Des Moines. It was Saturday morning and I needed a rear control arm replaced before we could head home the next day. They got us right in and completed the repair by Saturday afternoon. I would highly recommend this CarX location (store 1746). Thanks Gabriel and Nicole!

I've had lots of work done at the Clive Car-X over the years and have always been pleased. The team is professional and adaptable and always does a great job. Edit to update: staff always goes above and beyond for my services and are really nice. Always go to express oil change and am in and out quickly.Staff is always nice and explains well. I had a great experience have been a customer for years. A little expensive vs local repair shops but they can fix about anything on your car.

Another shop recommended that I replace all four of my brakes. I took it to CarX for a second quote. They were very honest and Tyson even took me into the shop area and showed me that I really only needed front brakes and that my rears still had half the life left in them even though the other place said I needed them all right now. Very honest and price was better also. Will be back.

Been coming to this location for several years. Tyson and his crew have always been great to work with and give it to us straight. No run around or bs just straight facts on what needs fixed right now and what can wait awhile longer. Never pushy on selling you something like a lot of other shops around here. My first experience at this place, included a young man giving me his phone number named Carlos...telling me I had an oil leak, which is unprofessional and why didn't they tell me about it. Turns out it's a very minor transmission leak that I just need to check when I get my oil changed. My second experience included them getting my seat stuck where I couldn't reach my pedals, luckily my roommate helped them fix it.They also were SOOOOO adept at their jobs, it took 2 turns with my mechanics fingers for my oil plug to come OFF. On my second use of their services. That could have cost me my car.Then I call them to tell them about what my mechanic found and ask them why they didn't tell me about my catalytic converter being stolen and about their incompetent service, and the asst manager, Chance, laughed at me.Turns out that if you go to the Express Lube, their mechanics aren't kind enough to let you know something as big as a catalytic converter being stolen.I called the Merle Hay store and spoke with Nicole who was very apologetic and informed me who the jackhole who laughed at me was. Seems that the power has went to someone's head.So I spoke to Alan, the closest regional manager they have. I will be getting a refund on my oil change, I informed him I was going to write a blazing review of their service, and he understood.Here it is.UPDATE: Tyson exists. He called me as the District Manager of this location. He did not even try to apologize for Chance laughing at me on the phone. He only wanted to appease me to take this review down. I want my refund and this review is staying up. I got my refund and edited this post. I still think people should know what I experienced as a customer.Service: Oil change

I ve had several repairs done at Car X on 86th in Clive. Some expensive, some just checking an engine light. They have always been professional. I can only drop my cars off on Saturdays. If I drop it off at 8am, they have always called with a completed repair or called to authorize repair expense before noon. No repairs are done without clear pricing and authorization beforehand.Today, 7/16/22 we brought in my wife s car for a check engine light. They weren t sure how soon they could get it in, but would do their best to at least get the code for the issue. Dropped off at 8am. By 10:30 they had called with a diagnosis.We were told the the light was a minor vapor leak, that the code would be cleared and nothing major was wrong. The car was not running weird or having problems, but it is basically my wife s office and issues always need to be addressed sooner rather than later.We were not even charged for the diagnostic reading of the code.Car X on 86th has built trust with me by how they have treated me in the past. I appreciate their professional approach.

I had a situation with another Car X where they didn t fix my problem and unwilling to solve my situation. Tyson the some what area manager reached out to me to hear what was going on, I explained my situation to him he was very understanding and completely understood my frustration. He was professional and polite, he offered to right the wrongs another location made and offered to get me in the same day to fix the issue as well as gave me a free oil change as well when I got there. He spoke with me directly after working on my car where the other one I never seen the one who diagnosed my car nor fixed it. He also asked I call to check in after getting fuel and when I did he was available to take my phone call. The problem is now fixed and I was correct on what the problem could have been. I came in with a noise coming from the front end of my car. Chance and Tyson gave me a few different options for my car, helped me by explaining everything. So a young girl can figure out what they are talking about. My whole family uses this location along with the other Car X locations! Edit to add: Someone reached out to me very quickly to address my concerns, and let me know how they would be improving their process/training going forward based on my feedback. While the repairs have already been scheduled with a different shop, I appreciate their speed and willingness to try and make it right.I took my vehicle in to find out what maintenance needed to be done as I just hit 90k miles. They called me a short while later with a total estimate of well over $4,000. I went elsewhere for a second opinion, and their estimate was less than half of what Car X provided. Some of the items Car X said needed to be done were recommended by the manufacturer, but were not absolutely necessary at that time. For instance, they recommended replacing my serpentine belt. While this is recommended by the manufacturer around 90k miles, the second shop advised mine is in good condition and does not need to be replaced at this time. Same thing with my shocks and struts, which were also part of Car X s estimate. Additionally, Car X told me I would need a new battery. The second shop found that my battery was fine, the terminals just needed to be cleaned.While I understand why Car X would include the manufacturer s suggested maintenance in their estimate, they were not clear with me on what was most urgent, what was a suggestion, etc. And when I asked for a list of everything they thought needed to be done, they let me know it would not include pricing. That makes it a bit harder to plan my budget and how I m going to get those things fixed. The second shop I went to was able to provide me a breakdown of all necessary maintenance, the pricing, and what was most urgent.Services: General repairs & maintenance, Oil change

Needed a new Catalytic Converter installed on my 2008 Grand Prix. They used my provided OEM direct fit part and had the best price in town. The techs were upfront and honest with their work. They even got me in last minute even though i was willing to schedule. Best big name shop in Polk county. Polite and Professional. My new home shop!

I'm not impressed with CarX. They refused to change the oil in my car unless I got synthetic oil which would have cost me about $120. They said it was the manufacturer's suggested oil and yet when I took it to the car dealership that sells my car they had no problem putting regular oil in it.

Awesome staff. Long story short it appeared that they had over filled the oil causing a misfire on cylinder 3. They looked it over and found that ignition coil was failing and everything was done right. They had the ignition coil on hand and installed it for a very fair price. They also tested the head gasket for us as well. Awesome job guys and girls! You made my fianc�s and I s day

Although later than promised, I came in with NO Appointment!!! All other shops I have been looking at the past couple weeks sayy next week would be the earliest. They got me done in a few hrs and paid for my delicious street tacos. Chance and Aaron were outstanding with their service and courtesy. Anthony (the mechanic) was top notch as well! No service received today, and no customer service offered. Last week I called, made an appt for today @1:00p to change the oil and tires rotatation. Got there a few minutes early only to hear them say, We can t change the oil because we have not filters to fit your car. Absolutely no customer service. A courtesy phone call would have been warranted, there was no offer to check other locations, no offer to call me when filters arrive, no offer to discount when filters arrive, nothing. Won t be going back.
