I have been a loyal customer of this auto repair shop for a while now, having had multiple services done, including an oil change, inspection, rear differential oil maintenance, and left headlight ballast repair. I had a great impression of the mechanics and the shop overall. However, everything changed today, and I feel compelled to report the poor service attitude at the front desk reception.Firstly, I was not greeted and waited on promptly. Secondly, I was not treated courteously. From the moment I entered through the main door, the receptionist never acknowledged my presence and consistently ignored me while chatting with his colleague. This went on for about 2 minutes, during which I stood right in front of him, yet he acted as if I was invisible. If you are the owner of this shop and question the authenticity of my complaint, I welcome you to review the surveillance footage from April 10, 2024, around 8 am.As a non-native speaker and a regular customer, facing this kind of neglect made me feel extremely uncomfortable and uneasy. It's difficult enough to navigate unfamiliar situations in a foreign language, and being ignored only compounds the stress and frustration. I expected better from a shop I had come to trust and rely on for my vehicle's needs.I am writing this review to bring attention to the subpar front desk service, which stands in stark contrast to the excellent work done by the mechanics. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and addresses the issue to ensure that all customers, regardless of their background or history with the shop, feel welcomed and respected.

Owner Brian is great, very knowledgeable about old and new cars. He is happy and always with a smile. Everybody else from Ms. Ashley front office ,(knows more than some car technicians) to everybody else are personable and provide great service and great.

Driving across country and noticed my tires had low air. Tried to fill up on my own at a gas station, but machine didn't work, so drove to the first tire service center I could find. They filled them up, free of charge. Excellent, prompt service.

Excellent customer service. Our UIowa student took his car in for general maintenance and received excellent, thorough service to include identification of an issue on a repair from our local IL shop. Dusty's provided a very detailed summary of the issue they found so we could take the car back to our local shop for the warranty work. We vey much appreciate their care and honesty in offering us this opportunity to have warranty work done elsewhere instead of just fixing the problem themselves and charging us for the work.Service: General repairs & maintenance

I'm always really impressed with how kind, considerate, and knowledgeable the staff are. The 'Boss Lady' at the front desk was also really kind and chatted with me while I waited. I just needed my tires pumped up this time. And one of the employees actually cut his break short just for that...! The Boss Lady told me that, and said he doesnt mind and is the kind of guy who just wants to help out. Super nice especially during this time as places are overworked and short-staffed most days. He was so nice, you'd never know he was in the middle of what I'm sure was a much-needed break! Highly recommend this place if you're looking for nice people who know their stuff!

It is not often that I write reviews but I feel this is a case in which such a good job was done that it needed to be acknowledged. I have taken my car to Dusty's several times in the past and have always enjoyed their prompt and professional service. Today, however, not only was the service fast and courteous but they actually went across town to pick up the necessary parts to get me back on the road within the hour. Best of all, the price was amazing for the level of service I received!

I went to Dusty s with the assumption that my wheel bearing was bad and wanted to get a second opinion. I set up an appointment online and no one reached out to me. After a week of not hearing back I called to set up an appointment. The mechanic took a look at my vehicle and confirmed that my wheel bearing was indeed the issue that I suspected. They also informed me that I had bad front tie rods which was very possible. The cost to fix the issues was slightly high but not far off from what others would charge. Once I told them that I was going to hold off on services and needed more time to think and plan for service; things got worse. The advisor told me that that was fine and that they would bring my car around in a few minutes. It took them about 30 plus minutes to bring my car around. I kept saying what s taking so long. She said I m not sure it shouldn t take that long. It s just on the lift that s all. When my car was finally brought around the mechanic said that they had an issue getting my car to start, which I have never in the two years of owning my car experienced a starting issue. He said I would need a new starter. The advisor in a sarcastic manner said Would you like me to go ahead and price out a starter too? I said no thanks and left to get in my car. When I got in, I noticed that my engine was idled very high and was hesitant to take off with control which I never experienced that. I messed around with it for a few minutes before getting the idle back down. A few days later I heard loud clunking in my front end on both sides which sounded like the bad tie rod issue that was explained. Again I have had my vehicle for 2 years and never heard those loud clunks until a few days after my visit there. Strange! I do not understand why I went through that hassle when I was simply just an inquiring customer potentially looking for a new mechanic that I could trust. I will never take my vehicle there again. I have found another mechanics that is very honest and fair in price to fix the concerns that I have.

Update 5/18: This week I am taking one more trip to the well. Some staffing changes (and a bit of faith in humanity!) have encouraged me to try again. Over the phone went through previous invoices, and found the paperwork that prompted this review. Based on this experience, I am changing my review, and have scheduled some more work. We will see how things go!Previous Review Follows:Long-time (former) customer of Dusty's here. In 2015, had a full brake service (pads/rotors) performed on my vehicle. Purchased the lifetime warranty coverage: BEWARE this coverage is not lifetime.Proceeded to have new pads and rotors replaced every 6-10 months. My particular vehicle is known to have an issue w/ brakes....but this is when the issue begins. Paid for an "upgrade" to slotted front rotors. Those failed. Replaced them again, and was told that the shop would no longer perform warranty work on the vehicle. 3 years later. Short lifetime. Went to the shop down the street, and they mentioned the brakes had not been bled or setup properly for the vehicle, which could be causing the premature wear.I give 2 stars as the cumulative time is acceptable for a set of rotors...and I take any additional stars and leave this review due to the revocation of warranty service. Lifetime warranty as long as they see fit. Shame on Dustys.

I have been taking my vehicles to Dusty's for 20+ years and have always been treated fairly, promptly and respectfully. I can call on a moment's notice and get an appointment or be worked in to their busy schedule. They treat me like a friend, not a number. Tons of businesses around town will try to take advantage of you because you're female, but Dusty's doesn't. I have over 200,000 miles on my Camry and Dusty's has been taking care of her every step of the way. They take me to and from work if I don't want to stay for my service. They've even given me loaner vehicles to use...for free. Name another place that would do that for you. Sure, there are things that could be replaced/fixed on the Camry, but they aren't things that are hurting the performance of my car and don't need to be done at this time. Dusty's points that out to me and doesn't pressure me to get those things fixed unless they are an issue. I don't know what I would do if Dusty's weren't in business. I trust them. You should, too.

Had a problem that needed to be fixed asap. I called to see if they could get me in, and not only did they get me in, but they got the repairs done within two hours. Dusty's also gave me a loaner in the meantime! Fantastic service. The car drives like new.

I went to Dusty's with a used car I was looking at buying to diagnose possible problems. They told me 3 major things which would need done. I bought the car and went to another mechanic who had quoted a better price on the repairs, they found only one of those problems listed and another MAJOR engine problem.I don't know if they were being malicious and expecting me to bring it back for the more costly repairs or if they were just poor mechanics, but either way it was a terrible experience.I would NOT recommend this mechanic to anyone. There are more honest/knowledgeable mechanics around.

Just took me for at least $300. Had my car brought in because it wouldn't start. They called me at work and said they would start by running a diagnostic which would cost $125 (pretty standard). Half hour later they called back and said it was the fuel pump and filter. The total came out to $925. Approximately 300 for the fuel pump, 58 for the filter, 125 (as mentioned before) for the diagnostic, and $440 for the labor. FOUR HUNDRED AND FORTY DOLLARS for labor. At a standard rate of $85 an hour that's 5 hours of labor for a 1 and a half hour job, two at most. I asked for an explanation and this is what they said: It was 4 hrs total ($110 per hour apparently though they don't have an official hourly rate), 2.8hrs for the job, and 1.2hrs for the diagnostic. That's right they charged me for an hour and twelve minutes of labor for the diagnostic which they already charged me a standard diagnostic fee. I called around to several other shops including the dealer. None of them charge an hourly rate on top of the 125 for the diagnostic. When I questioned this further they just said that they have a program that determines the price and that is what it came up with. I don't even know what else to say. I called the dealer afterwards and they quoted me $860 for the diagnostic, parts, and labor. When the dealer charges less you know that something is drastically wrong!

As an owner of my own repair shop I feel it's necessary to share our less then desirable experience at Dusty's. Yesterday we started our trip to Iowa city for my sons pre surgery eye appt., we blew a tire, put the spare on and a short while later the spare blew. We stopped in Oxford to the ford repair shop- they were very kind at closing time to get us a used tire and back on the road in no time. While changing tires we noticed we had another bad tire that would need changed prior to returning home. At that point we had missed the appt and decided to stay overnight and have our son seen in the am, find a used tire and get back home. We stopped at Dusty's in hopes they would have a used tire. They did have one- after trying to sell two new tires for well over $300 AND insisted our car had tire pressure monitors when we know for a fact it does not. After haggling over what they were trying to over charge for (they wanted to charge us $10 for tire disposal when they take those tires and put them on their sale rack!) we decided the used tire would work to get us home 2.5 hours away. Then apparently we became an inconvenience- they told us it would be a half hour, so we waited. My husband went to get an eta only to find out they were all sitting around eating and talking. I realize lunchtime is needed but we were blatantly ignored. We just left and decided to try to get home on our tire. I would never recommend such a unprofessional place to do business with. Not only were they rude, they were attempting to charge for things not necessary.

I am generally opposed to leaving reviews, because of the thousands of good things that a business does and the only thing you ever see on these sites are people who are dissatisfied for whatever reason. (some will never be satisfied) So I take my fleet of cars here and have for years. I'm a reasonable guy and so are the folks at Dustys.

On February 13th, 2016, a visiting family member, took a vehicle into Dusty's Precision Auto. The vehicle is owned by another family member, who was not present. I planned to and eventually did pay for work done on this vehicle. The vehicle had no heat but otherwise operated normally. We felt reasonably sure it needed the thermostat replaced. We left the vehicle at the shop and waited for a call back. They called and stated the thermostat needed to be replaced; we agreed to have this done. They called again later and told us that their fix did not work and that they wanted to perform another service, something about bleeding the air out of the lines, but if that did not work, that they may need to replace the water pump. We agreed to the bleeding the air step and nothing else. They called back later and said that there was still little to no heat. At this point we became suspicious and decided to go no further. We went to the shop, paid for the services they performed up to that point and left. We had hoped that they were being honest and that the services they performed were actually needed. We had no way of knowing for sure, and we had no choice but to pay and hope that the shop personnel were being honest.Nearly two weeks later the owner of the vehicle, who had been out of the country, took the vehicle in to have this same problem looked at. The dealership service people in the town where the vehicle owner resides, found and repaired the issue quickly. The people at Dusty's Precision Auto installed the wrong thermostat. The thermostat they erroneously installed did not have the proper temperature rating for this particular make and model vehicle, causing the heating system in the vehicle to not hardly function at all. This error not only meant that the repair did not work, but it also meant that all of the additional services Dusty's Precision Auto performed were not necessary and did not lead and never would have lead to a solution. Even the coolant system flush that was performed was not necessary. This maintenance had already been performed on this vehicle a few weeks prior. My father, the owner of the vehicle, made repeated attempts to contact Dusty's Precision Auto to come to some sort of reimbursement for the failed repair. After many failed attempts to contact someone in charge at Dusty's Precision Auto, finally he was able to speak to someone. This person wanted to contact the dealership to ask about the successful repair. Even after speaking with the dealership, the person at Dusty's Precision Auto refused to acknowledge their mistake, stating that they did "what was in the book". Perhaps they need a new "book". Best case scenario, the mechanic(s) at Dusty's Precision made an error and made me pay for their error. But I am concerned that there is even more to it. That is that they saw people travelling in the dead of winter with no heat and attempted to take advantage of them. Making this error, intentionally or unintentionally, allowed them to pile on even more trial and error services to continue to "diagnose" the issue. The credit card company, after reviewing the evidence, found Drust'y Precision Auto to be in error and reversed the charges. Ironically my father, ever the diplomat and against my advice, wanted to come to some sort of arrangement with them, even planning to pay for half the services. The person he spoke with at Dusty's refused to budge, and in my opinion, that's a good thing because now they have nothing to show for their error (except a bad review and a local resident happy to share his experience with others). If you want to risk giving this operation you business, at least use a credit card to pay. This way you might have some recourse if an when they try to make you their next victim. As an additional note, just take a look at the other reviews here. The personality and character of the owner should be evident in the responses to other complaints. Pathetic...

Love this place. The gal at the front counter is very polite and knowledgeable. The owner, Brian, really knows his way around cars. Every time I call, they make it a priority to get my vehicle in the shop even when they are very busy. Awesome experience overall, everytime.

Lied to my girlfriend about needing her brakes repaired. She took her car to another shop who gave her a quote for half the price Dusty's quoted her. She gets a call from the other shop after they looked at her car...guess what???? They told her she could get another 15,000 miles safely out of her brakes...shame on you Dusty's. You lost a long time customer today.7/7/16 Update: The person who called her from Dusty's indicated the front brake pads were at 25% and the rear pads were at 10%, and needed to be replaced asap. She was encouraged to set up an appointment this week to have the work done. I have also now checked the invoice and it says, "Front Brakes are at 25%. Rear Brakes need replaced. At 10%." Considering the time, hassle of coordinating rides, the cost, & most importantly, the loss of trust, characterizing this situation as "petty," only serves to further disappoint.

We picked up an undetermined object in a Dunkin Donuts parking lot on our way home from CO. Very pleasant to work with, gave us immediate service, and cancelled an order for a new tire when they saw it could be patched. Definitely a thumbs up experience.

Worst auto experience ever. My car was jerking and having problems when taking off from a stop to a go (i.e. at stop lights). Dusty's told me it was the transmission and they were going to charge me $4,000 to replace it. Turns out the idiots at Wal-Mart tire & Lube knocked the oxygen sensor loose when changing my oil. Got it fixed for free by a friend rather than getting a $4,000 part my car didn't need. AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE.

I needed a battery replaced and they looked over the car and found some other problems. They were not too pushy about trying to get more things done to the car and I appreciate that. They printed out a to do list so I can hand it over to the car's owner.

They failed their repair - despite having the car twice as long as estimated. They ignored my complaints and then promised a solution only to renege on it when I tried to take them up on it and have the car properly repaired. Instead they swore at and physically threatened me.

We've taken cars to Dusty's for years, they keep our cars running. We tend to drive cars until they are old and worn out, and Dusty's is key to keeping them going. Very helpful and honest!
